    I'm not nearly as good at it as you are but from what I've seen in the quality of defense over the same period has gone up. If there's an inverse effect going on it could be the emphasis on defense is part of the reason for the trend in lower offense. Then again better analysis leads to better positioning, which leads the same defender having better results. I don't know how one could isolate prioritizing player type as a cause. What I do think is happening is teams are starting to prioritize defense more. That alone would presumably have teams drafting and developing a player type that leads to more defense at the possible cost of offense.

    He should not be in any high leverage role for sure. I wouldn't be opposed to optioning him now. I still think he could end up being a good pitcher for us but we can't be blowing games late because he might turn it around.

    You think putting a guy with a career minor league OPS of .720 is a better option for a struggling offense than a guy who has a career minor league OPS of .839? I get he's off to a hot start but he's only had 25 games above AA and he had a 712 OPS in AA last season. He has a high floor with his defense but why risk his development based on 25 games?

    I think it has more to do with wanting to get more offensive production. It doesn't hurt to have the open spot but I don't think it was done to open a spot for a future move.

    Black is one of those guys I've always liked for no discernible reason. Hope this time he gets enough regular ab's to show he belongs. I'm also interested to see what Drohan does in the pen. I think he might have a better future there than the rotation.

    I know this will never happen but if all the teams would demand 50% of the TV revenue or forfeit the game it would force LA to share all their revenue.

    Makes sense. It might give them a chance to see how he does in relief as well. I know small sample but if the short term choice is between sending him down or putting him in relief it might help to see him in relief.

    You can't rinse until you lather. The Brewers are the best team in baseball by doing all the little things right. Follow their example.

    I think we should do April fools in October like some people do Christmas in July. Probably get a lot more heart attacks that way.

    The Brewers lead all of baseball in OBP, SLG, stolen bases, and RBI. Not a bad start for a team built around pitching and defense.

    Nice to see we picked up a whole game!!! I wonder how long it would take the Brewers continuously out performing the projections before the projectors decide maybe it's time to update their formulas for their projections instead of insisting reality has it wrong.

    I wonder if this is a short term move to give Quero a chance to get acclimated to the majors. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a couple week thing to get a few ab's play in a few games then go down for regular playing time. It also gives the team some time to see how the rest of the bench shakes out. Bad break for Vaughn.

    I disagree it wouldn't help a person who's missed as much time as Mitchell has, and wasn't a finished product before losing time to injury, wouldn't benefit from some time in AAA. In a perfect world AAA is where he should be intil he proves himself major league ready again. We are not in a perfect world so we have to hope he can regain his career trajectory while in the majors. In truth I think it's as likely Lockridge or ends up taking a step forward and displaces Mitchell or that neither do and we see Churio shift to center as it is to see Mitchell resume where he left off.

    What does age have to do with knowing how much time it will take to knock the rust of not playing more than a handful of ab's in a year and a half? He's never had more than 224 ab's in a season since 2022 and never had more than that in the majors. He always had a problem with high fastballs. That didn't change in the majors. He was not a finished product when he got here. Just getting older doesn't help improve that without playing.

    It's because he only has 78 PA's in 2025 N 25 in spring. I don't know if it's his confidence or the Brewers that needs to be satisfied but it's been a long time since he's had regular playing time. It's not unreasonable to think a little doubt about being rusty can creep in.

    The Kaukauna wrestling team just won it's 6th straight state title and 10th in the last 13 years. I'm curious if any highschool team in any sport in the state has ever had a stretch of dominance like that. If anyone knows of one I'd love to know.

    Just A Dash on Netflix is quite entertaining. It's what I'd imagine Ricky from Trailer Park Boys would be like if he did a cooking show.

    One has to wonder how difficult it could be to project given the Brewers keep finding that type of player. I think there's some amount of bias baked into what people try to measure. Instead of determining how much defense and speed are really worth they just try to make projecting defense and speed as accurately as they can. If you never determine absolute value you can assess a specific ability perfectly and get no closer to determining how much it will help.

    His focus going into spring training does not equal plans to play mostly shortstop for the season. I think it makes sense to play a lot of short in spring given the Ortiz issues from last season. When the minor league season starts it'd make more sense to have him play all over IMHO. He should be preparing to play a variety of roles because we have no idea which role will be needed. If Ortiz plays well but Mitchell can't he could end up our main center fielder. If both Ortiz and Mitchell play well he could end up a super sub. Playing mostly short in AAA would probably not be the best way to prepare him for all possible roles he may end up having.

    That sentence is the key in my eyes. The Brewers don't just have a top shelf physical lab. They don't just have competent people running it. They don't just emphasize pitching. They aren't just looking at the league to determine what the next big thing is. They have a holistic approach that combines every aspect of the game to make the best out of what they have. It's not a coincidence they have a great defense at the same time they acquired several ground ball pitchers. It's not a coincidence they traded for ground ball pitchers and acquired solid defensive players to begin with. They saw a trend where both were out of style and could be found at a relative bargain. The lab works because they made sure every detail was in place to make the most of it. Not just how to make their pitches better but to learn how to pitch with what their defense brings to the table.

    If they want to be the '27 Yankees fine. They can buy their way to being the Yankees because the Yankees bought their way to being the Yankees. What they can never achieve being historically great like the Big Red Machine because the Big Red Machine didn't buy their way to being the Big Red Machine. All they can accomplish is being this era's evil empire.

    That's my feeling on the matter. If I was a Dodger player and won the WS I'd be embarrassed to celebrate. I have no problem with the players going there for the money. It's a job and they have every right to make as much as they can. Just don't act like you did something special when you started out on third base. I have a feeling the fans know it too. They won't admit it. They'll rationalize why it's the same as every other team winning it. But deep down they know.
