  1. Did you mean to repeat your same message 2 hours later?
  2. After we trade Lucroy, the best catcher in the Brewers organization will be Bob Uecker.
  3. I was reading a sports writer who said he thought the Yankees would use Carlos Beltran at first base with Bird out, opening an outfield spot. I don't know what the deal is with Texieria, maybe they just view him as a DH now.
  4. With Greg Bird being out for the year for the Yankees, I would be on the horn with New York right now about Davis.
  5. This doesn't have anything to do with Houston, so I apologize for that, but Cespedes just resigned with the Mets after having the Nationals be in on him, hard. At this point I wonder if the Nationals aren't going to be a little "on tilt" after losing the division to the Mets last year and now Cespedes to them, and would maybe overpay to acquire Braun in a trade. If I was Stearns I would be calling them today and gauge any interest.
  6. In the end, the NL is going to end up with the DH, I think that is clear at this point. I would like to see the NL stick with the pitcher hitting though, for a couple reasons. First, I like a difference between the leagues. It isn't game breaking, but it's unique enough where fans of an AL team might take a trip to an NL park during interleague to see their pitchers hit, it's a novelty, and no other major sport has it. There is no difference between the AFC/NFC, Eastern/Western Conference. I like that baseball is unique. Secondly, MLB managers really don't do much of anything during a game compared to the other sports. Sure, maybe you adjust OF depth, guard the lines, play hit and run, but there really isn't a whole lot they can do to affect the game after the line up card is submitted, I like the extra strategy involved. But that's just me, I have resigned myself that we'll all have the DH fairly soon.
  7. Agreed. If there is any truth to that rumor above that the Pirates have interest in Lucroy, I would imagine they would use him a good amount of the time at 1st base, as well as behind the plate.
  8. I would have no problem at all with anything Lucroy said, IF he would have said it privately to Stearns/Attanasio/Counsell, etc. I just don't see anything positive about putting this all out there publicly. We on this board are split on if it effected his trade value, so for example let's say there are 6 teams interested in him, and now 3 of them think his comments lower his trade value. Heck, even if only 1 interested GM thinks that, you have hosed over yourself and the team for literally nothing. At this point I just say deal him for the best offer you can get now, before he gets viciously attacked by a suitcase again and misses 6 weeks or something.
  9. I wish I could type this in blue, but I can't, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Corey Hart come back. Yes, he was hurt and terrible the last couple of years, we all know that. But he is available, he'd be dirt cheap and when you look back at his numbers when he was here they were pretty decent. In no way am I saying he is a long term solution, but he is only 33 and at this point could be the very definition of "stopgap". Take a flier on a one year deal. Maybe he gets healthy and hits 265 with 12-15 homers and 40+ RBIs at the break and you flip him for a mid tier prospect. Who knows?
  10. With all the talk about Stearns wanting to get a CF, I have this feeling Santana will be starting the season in the minors, if he stays all year, who knows?
  11. Were the Cubs still lamenting their crappy 2013 record during the playoffs this year, or were they happy to have Kyle Hendricks as the #4 starter all season because they traded away Ryan Dempster in 2012? I'm talking about winning some games to keep the fans happy and coming to the ballpark. The people who frequent this board know we're rebuilding and what it's going to include and the lean years coming down the line. The average fan out there doesn't, when a parent takes their kids to the Brewer game, all they want to see is a Brewer win. The Cubs are a storied franchise with a huge market, they are going to draw their diehard fans and fill that park no matter what. The Brewers don't have that luxury. A year or two more of 60-69 win baseball and attendance is going to plummet, and revenues with it.
  12. I would really love to see what other offers we had on the table for Lind. I get the whole thing about restocking the farm, but you have to win at least a few games over the next 3 or 4 years, don't you? This deal...I don't know. I imagine the conversation ended with Stearns saying, "Okay, paperwork is submitted, remember you agreed you owe us one on the next deal, right? Right? Hello?"
  13. I know the Braves have been taking some heat for recent trades, but this one looks pretty decent for them. I live in Mesa, AZ, and even though I am not a Diamondbacks fan it amazes me to see how this team has turned it around, they might be one of the NL favorites next year.
  14. Per twitter: Confirmed @Ken_Rosenthal's report that the D-backs have acquired Shelby Miller from the #Braves pending a physical. Pollock is not included ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- They didn't even have to give up Pollock, who the Braves were "insisting" on. Sheesh.
  15. Wow, how many times can the Nationals choke in one season?
  16. I would rather sign Bill Hall to come in and be our 5th starter instead of Cravy, this experiment is over.
  17. The Brewers are so thoroughly outclassed in every way imaginable, it's so depressing.
  18. I was hoping the Cubs pitcher picture would be photoshopped with the Tom Brady court sketch face from yesterday. Another dream crushed.
  19. Crazy would be running Kyle Lohse out there every 5 days to stink up the joint.
  20. I can't believe we wasted our 3 run offensive explosion today
  21. We had to send the extra million to cover the increase in the post game buffet budget for the rest of the season.
  22. I have posted a few times over the last day that I was afraid that Melvin wasn't going to get anything done. When I'm wrong, I admit it, and in this case I am absolutely thrilled to be wrong, this is leaps and bounds better than the Mets package. Sure, we gave up Fiers as well, but he isn't young and isn't really a power arm. I will miss he and Gomez though, I wish them both all the best in Houston.
