  1. Wade Miley will be on the roster either in the Bullpen or Starting. Yes, it will take a spot away from Woodruff or someone better than Miley. Brewers brass like older veterans to steer the young guys. I wouldn't be surprised if Miley and Gallardo make the team and two guys better than them get sent down.
  2. Let's remember how Milone pitched in spring training and took a roster spot, look for Miley to do the same.
  3. Yes. Which is why I questioned it last year when they brought Berry up so he could make a difference in one or two games. Berry indeed made no difference in any game and made 100,000. Not a bad gig to sit on the bench most of the time.
  4. Being a traditionalist, I never wanted the DH and hope the NL never goes to it. I really don't care if a pitcher gets hurt batting or running the bases, it's part of the game and it just gives another minor league guy an opportunity to come up and play. Managers have more decisions to make in the NL. The reason they went to the DL was to get increased offense and since MLB juiced the ball now, we get that anyway.
  5. I'll give him 6 years since he took over with one of the worst farms systems. If no playoffs in 6 years then definitely think about making a move. Any GM can sell off assets and get a good return. We will see how he does with future draft picks and moves.
  6. I agree with you. Brewers do this every year, they want a veteran presence in the pen and on the bench. More and more guys are going to be stuck at AAA instead of getting an opportunity especially when they performed the year before. It wouldn't surprise me if more pitchers are signed and Suter/Woodruff are back at AAA. As far as Hader, he should be starting.
  7. I see no reason in putting Braun at 1B when you have Aguilar and Thames. It's not a smart move defensively. Braun has a hard enough time in the OF, let alone throwing him in the infield.
  8. Braun continues to have nagging injuries and not being able to use HGH hurts his recovery time. I think we will start to see a decline in both playing time and offensive numbers.
  9. Unfortunately now we don't get to see Brett Phillips in the OF. Back to AAA or another team. The guy has an incredible arm.
  10. If braun moves to first where is Thames and Aguilar going?
  11. Cain's agent jumping for joy.
  12. He isn't paid by the clubs, he makes his money by making his clients money. He does the same thing every agent does. Just because he can put any value on a player, doesn't mean he will get it. Yea, he's over the top sometimes but he's doing his job to get his guys the most money and he accomplishes it most of the time.
  13. His answers fall right into line with someone with a political science education.
  14. Jungmann was in the same boat, stay at AAA and waste a whole year of wear and tear on the arm and get peanuts or Get out of Dodge and make some real money, smart move by both. Don't blame either one of them for wanting to leave.
  15. I never agreed with the Rule 5 pick which basically amounted to him taking a roster spot from someone else. I don't blame any player for wanting to sign an 800,000 dollar contract, especially when he was going to make 1/10 of that in AAA. Good for Wang. Pretty good wage for a 25 year old.
  16. I was really surprised Knebel just gave in and signed what he was offered. At the very least, throw out a higher number than the offer and go to arbitration.
  17. I'm not sure I like the longer control by draft round, but I tend to agree that team control should be reduced from maybe 6 MLB years to 4. I don't think minor league control should change, it takes time for players to develop. Age 30-31 free agents would be 28-29 instead, they still might have some peak years left. But keep in mind, doing this would severely impact small market clubs ability to compete. It would have to come with some additional revenue sharing from big market clubs...which they will surely resist and will lead to a massive labor dispute. It's also possible/likely the remaining guys sign solid contracts, and next year there's a spending bonanza and people no longer care about the slow offseason of 2017-18. I'm not too sure it would severely impact small market teams because they would have the same ability to pick up other players that teams were losing. Small market teams that have super low payrolls for an extended period like the Brewers will be able to afford some premium players. It might cause small market teams to actually bring young talent to the majors sooner. Owning a player for 13 years seems way over the top to me. On another note, the MILB players deserve a decent living wage.
  18. I have a feeling the next TV deal is going to be a lot less than the ESPN deal.
  19. #2. I think you hit on a very good point. It is a little ridiculous that a player has a minor league contract for 7 years (most don't last 7 years) and then gets called up and needs to sign a Major league contract. That's a long time to control a player. The team owns a player way too long. The players union should be looking out for the players. This needs to be addressed. Maybe they could tie draft rounds to total years of control. Example...1st to 5th rounders getting controlled longer.
  20. The writing was on the wall when Jungmann put together the best season by a starter in Colorado Springs history and didn't get called up in September.
  21. What happens in 2019 or 2020 when MLB expands. Is every player not on 40 man roster eligible to be drafted by expansion teams? Anyone know the rules on this?
  22. It justs blocks someone at AAA that is better imo. They would rather have any type of veteran presence in the dugout or bullpen regardless of how well they pitch. Yo ho ho, great christmas present for the fans. What's the over/under on fans wearing Gallardo jersey on opening day?
  23. It wouldn't surprise me if they gave Gallardo 6 or 7 million.
  24. I totally agree...we need two tank years so we can get a bregman or correia type player.
