  1. I figured Lyles would be back but I trust in Stearns
  2. Me too. It’d be a good way to at least approach leveling the playing field between small market & big market teams... being able to “trade up” in the 1st Round would allow teams with savvy front offices to acquire and develop top flight talent without having to tank, too
  3. An extra $50 million for 3-4 years in payroll on a franchise that has gone from $250 million to over a $Billion is not a risk, it is a choice. There are all sorts of ways that the team could raise capital, from loans, selling small shares of stock etc... Just imagine what Stearns could do with a $175 million payroll per year. And you know who would have a statue outside the stadium? Mark... for decades/centuries/as long as Baseball remains a pro sport. That’s a legacy that is more important to the city of Milwaukee than that money in Mark’s pocket... It is a choice. Considering how rabidly Wisconsin supports winners, I’m not at all convinced that he couldn’t quickly make back that money through new TV deals, sponsorship revenue, merch sales, increased ticket prices etc
  4. I’m very happy about getting Narvaez. And I’m also happy that we have kept Pina. I wonder if Nottingham will be part of an upcoming trade...
  5. The Brewers were purchased by Mark for $250 million. They’ve been recently valued at $1.15 Billion... I think, as loyal fans who buy the tickets & buy the merch etc, we have a right to think that Mark can spend more money to improve the team. He is gaining multi-generational wealth just from owning the team. I want a World Series Championship. I’m happy with the recent trends. We have a smart new(er) GM, who I think is light years better than Melvin was. Mark has increased the payroll. I think he can spend more... I will never cry a river over concern as to whether Mark earns $800 million owning the Brewers or $500 million. And I really don’t think feeling that way makes me a Yankees fan...
  6. Wonder if the Mariners can now be added to the Marlins as 2 teams that will never trade with the Brewers again. Probably not, as DiPoto is a trade addict. I’m pretty sure that the Marlins just hang up on Stearns every time he calls them...
  7. I would say that the trade value of Hader went up. Other GM’s are seeing what they already suspected. The Brewers are not sellers & are not rebuilding. If you want to trade for Hader the cost will be very, very high. Otherwise the Brewers keep him and utilize him in a pennant chase. Win-Win for the Crew.
  8. If the Rangers picked poorly, that is irrelevant. There are plenty of good prospects that a team could pick in that spot. I think we are in a 3 Year “Christian Yelich Window”. These are go for it years, and as such it is a good time to deal picks to help the MLB roster...
  9. Great to see Omar becoming a Brewer! Very interested to see the return though... hoping it is 2 mid level MiLB pitchers, and not Arcia.
  10. Next season is 2020. 2015 performance is not relevant .... I just pointed out his dominance in 2015 and questioned what happened since then..... Mostly injuries. He dealt with back issues through much of 2016 & parts of 2017...
  11. He was great for the Cubs for one season but it was in 2015. He’s dealt with some injuries since then. Certainly worth a Spring Training spot to see if he can find what he once had...
  12. Wisconsin didn't play Penn State this year. Penn State's two losses are to Minnesota and Ohio State. Oh jeeez. I better stick to Baseball! Never mind... thanks for the response
  13. Sincere question as I don’t know the answer: how would it be possible that Penn State could go to the Rose Bowl when Wisconsin beat them head to head and are in the Big 10 Championship game?
  14. Urias should start every game vs LHP Hiura should start about 156 games unless injured. When he does rest, it probably should be when LHP starts against us (interesting reverse splits with Hiura so far)
  15. I’m pretty much in agreement with your son. I suppose I’d also trade Keston for Thor (the superhero from the Avengers, not the pitcher from the Mets)
  16. One of the best relief pitchers in baseball is still a relief pitcher. Hader had half the WAR of McNeil last year and McNeil has an extra year of control. He's probably more valuable than Hader in his own right. Not to actual MLB GM’s... If they were both free agents, Hader would get a much bigger contract
  17. I like Villar, a lot. I think he is a very very good player. I tend to think athleticism is a little undervalued in MLB right now, which is ironic because it is overvalued in College Baseball (in my opinion). On a personal level, Villar was super nice to my kid, and signed a Baseball for him. He is a guy my family will always root for. I just don’t think Villar fits into the Stearns/Counsell M.O. right now. I’m OK with that.
  18. No, actually just visiting. Headed back home to Crazy Town next week. I love Crazy Town. I usually rent out an apartment there for at least a few weeks every postseason. Having said that, I’m all in on making offers to Rendon & Strasburg, getting outbid on them, and signing Bumgarner & Donaldson...
  19. I find it perplexing that anyone would look at the moves so far and surmise that we are rebuilding. It seems clear that they are freeing up payroll space in order to sign a free agent 3B & free agent Pitchers and/or trade for expensive players...
  20. I bet Stearns has a computer algorithm for team chemistry. I’m actually serious about that... this is something I’m not at all worried about.
  21. No, they're just winging it. They may not even have a player starting at 3B on opening day. They’ll be in the shift
  22. The Brewers have cleared, what? $35 million or so from last year’s payroll? It seems pretty obvious that they are going to make, or at least attempt to make, some strong moves in signing free agents this offseason. It is reasonable to think that a full year of Hiura and a healthy Cain can help make up some of the offense that walked out the door. I’m certain there’ll be more moves coming....they aren’t going to go to the playoffs 2 years in a row and then just cut payroll by nearly 25% and call it a day on 2020 As others have said: Relax! Even an Armchair GM like me can see they need to upgrade their pitching staff, so I’m quite sure that Stearns is well aware of the strengths & weaknesses of his roster.
  23. It’s hard to imagine Stearns does that deal unless Mark A volunteers to significantly increase payroll in order to sign a lot of pitching. You’d only have Lindor for a 2 year window, and while a foundation of Lindor/Yelich/Hiura could indeed be a World Series caliber offense, the Brewers do not have World Series caliber pitching... A move like that for a short term window has not been in the Brewers M.O., and it would need to be (in my opinion) followed up on by signing Cole or Strasburg plus another starting pitcher plus Chapman & Harris etc... I just don’t see that happening. ...otherwise you are just mortgaging the future for a 2 year window hoping that Woodruff & Hauser turn into Cole & Strasburg and hoping Knebel comes back 100% and Peralta turns into Verlander etc etc
  24. I think there is a 50/50 chance Counsell would resign if the Brewers signed Villar. I don’t think he can stand him, won’t play him, won’t trust him...
