  1. I suppose it is possible that Braun has been using PED's his whole career. He has passed every test for several years though. If he was using PEDs and passing tests in 2006-2010 there is no reason to believe that won't continue, thus his playing level won't go down. It is also possible that 50-70% of MLB players use PED's. I can only go by the facts as they present themselves
  2. That would be a tough bet but not a slam dunk either way. I like Morneau's game a lot better. More walks, better defense. Morneau is a risk though as he appears to be in a decline phase of his career, with just a 103 OPS+ last year. He may just need a platoon partner though. Last year he had a .819 OPS vs RHP and a .525 vs LHP! Career .292 BA/.893 OPS vs RHP and .250 BA/.708 OPS vs LHP.... I don't know how much I'd want to spend on a guy who can only hit RHP at a .800 OPS clip without a ton of power. His name recognition will drive his price up. I'd rather sign Jeff Baker and platoon him with Hunter Morris. (edited for spellin')
  3. I'm a Little League Baseball coach, and I have to admit that I don't wear my Braun jersey to practices like I did pre-suspension. Unfortunately it may be a long time before I can do that. I'll wear my #8 to games though!
  4. I think that will or at least can happen long term. There is a long history in America of heroes being vilified and then celebrated a few years later in their "resurrection". That is one of the games the Major Media plays in this Country and a way they make money. Braun is still going through the vilification phase and that may continue for some time. I'm certain that his lawyers and agent understand this process of the media in manipulating public taste much better than I do and have explained it all thoroughly to him. Eventually over the course of time (3-5 years from now) there will be heartfelt stories in Sports Illustrated and on ESPN about how much work Braun does for charity and looks out for younger teammates or whatever and then his resurrection will begin. It is part of the process many celebrities go through in America
  5. Most people are casual fans who aren't that knowledgeable about Baseball. He'll need 35+ HR's and 100+ RBI's.... if he has 28 HR's and a .289 BA but he walks a ton more and still has a .600 Slugging % to get him over a 1.000 OPS a lot of fans will say he sucks now or is overpaid or whatever... but yeah I get what you are saying. I'll be standing up and cheering for him on opening day.
  6. I'm still glad Ryan Braun is a Brewer and I'll be rooting for him. Reporter: "So you are OK with moving to right field if it helps the team?" Braun: "yeah, I'll play wherever they want, except 3rd base, that didn't go well...." (!)
  7. Jeff Baker would be a guy I'd look at, depending on cost. Career .298 BA/.875 OPS vs LHP. In 2013 he hit .314 with a 1.073 OPS vs LHP. A player you can platoon with Morris. He can even play some 2B/3B if needed. Here's a good article explaining the value of Baker http://www.camdenchat.com/2013/10/21/4856006/orioles-free-agent-offseason-jeff-baker
  8. Mitch Moreland is not worth a Gallardo or Lohse, which is what it would likely take. He is entering his age 28 season with a career .758 OPS, playing in a band box even. Career 100 OPS+ says it all. I'd be hesitant to give up Thornburg for him, honestly. His most similar player on Baseball-Reference is Ike Davis. See the Ike Davis comments in this thread for perspective on that value!
  9. yes indeed that would be cool. I liked the idea of George playing for Ned in KC.... now Sveum has left the Cubs and gone to KC and George is heading to Wrigley
  10. George really struggled to get hits with the Royals in his limited (100) at bats last year, hitting just .180 (although he did walk enough to have an OBP of .324 and an OPS of .719). He threw out baserunners at a league average percentage. George was much better at the plate than Martin Maldonado last year (or any year)!
  11. It was unbelievably frustrating. It wasn't as bad as starting Kotsay in CF in a playoff game but it was right on up there in terms of infuriatingly bad decisions.
  12. Curious as to how this logic gets applied to Segura. Should we be concerned because his bad half-season was the second half? Maybe, I don't know. I think that the point of view with Segura that he was in his first full MLB season and had played winter ball is a logical explanation for his 2nd half not being as good as his first half. I would imagine that part of it might've been pitchers learning how to get him out.
  13. Gallardo in the 2nd half of 2013 posted a 3.09 ERA. He'll be fine
  14. Aoki plus a pitching prospect or two for a Starting Pitcher seems feasible. Hope it isn't Jimmy Nelson
  15. Oh, I'm not forgetting. And I trust this means that Cardinals fans won't be booing Ryan Braun now
  16. Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder, JJ Hardy, Yovanni Gallardo are all Brewers draft picks and All-Star MLB players. Weeks has overall been a disappointment but was a All-Star, as was Hart. It hasn't all been misses with the draft picks
  17. Hard to say how good the Cardinals will be or won't be until they make all their off season moves. I'm sure they will upgrade their SS position. There are rumors they may try to trade for Tulowitzki. They have a lot of young pitching and big time prospects like Wong coming up
  18. That could indeed be what happens but sure is a scary proposition to me. Giving money to Corey Hart and sending Khris Davis to Nashville makes no sense to me.. The Brewers need to stop spending money on injury prone older players and instead allow a league minimum younger player like Davis flourish.
  19. Trade deadline of 2014 after hitting .195 in the 1st half. They'll move him for a 25 year old Single A pitcher with a 1.587 WHIP
  20. I would say that Braun is much too injury prone and too important offensively to waste his bat running around the Outfield 155 games a year.
  21. I'm not too big on Ike Davis but he is only 26 years old.... if he's going to have a prime the next 3 years are big for him..... he draws walks but he was pretty awful both at the plate and in the field last year..... I don't doubt that he'd hit more HR's at Miller Park than Citi Field. The big thing with Ike Davis is he absolutely needs to be platooned, he has hit .204 with a .268 OBP vs LHP in 400 MLB at-bats I'm not at all convinced that Ike Davis will be better than Hunter Morris in 2014
  22. I agree, I like Gindl a lot, I think he has a lot of potential. And you are right, he is one of the few Brewers who does take walks. He might end up strictly a platoon guy but a valuable part of an MLB roster
  23. Davis had a reverse split this year (albeit in a very small sample) hitting RHP better than LHP http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=daviskh01&year=2013&t=b They probably will use Segura as a lead-off hitter because of his base stealing ability, but as someone else said, the lead-off hitter should be the player with the best OBP. I think Roenicke is too much of a Traditionalist to understand that though. Segura's OBP last year was .329, that really isn't good enough for a lead-off hitter. It is an organizational problem, though, the Brewers don't have very many patient hitters who draw walks. I'd rather see Khris Davis playing (almost) every day, instead of being in a platoon. Really they should move Braun to 1B instead of RF
  24. I think Detroit, in general, was pretty disappointed in Prince. It isn't easy to find a 25-30 HR guy who hits .295 and plays 162 games a year though. The big problem was the contract and the expectations placed on Prince because of that contract. His (yet again) dismal postseason play didn't help. I'm not 100% convinced that Miguel Cabrera will be as productive without Prince hitting behind him. That will be interesting to watch
  25. Interesting take from a Rangers fan: "Prince Fielder in Texas. Wow. Everything is BIGGER down here. He will love playing with the likes of Cruz, Andrus, Beltre and Ronnie Washington for sure. He will have fun, tons of fun one could say. If his bulk can handle the sun, which is no joking matter during the long summer months - which start in early May at times and go to mid-September. The bandbox in Arlington will fit him better than his new Rangers uniform, that's for sure. I just would rather not see any of his Brew Crew HR celebration antics, that really looked ridiculous in 2011..."
