  1. I would trade Segura straight up for Matt Harvey or Shelby Miller. While I greatly value SS, I would even more value 5 years of top-flight pitching. I would consider Clayton Kershaw that type of top-quality pitcher too, but he'll be a free agent in 2015, and 5 years of Segura is worth much more than 1.5 years for Kershaw I would not take Trout for Segura straight up. Other players I would take for Segura: Miguel Cabrera --- even though it'd be just 2.5 years of Cabrera, he is simply that good. Playing in Miller Park he'd probably average 50 HR's a season while batting .360+ Troy Tulowitzki (yes despite being injury prone, I think he's better than Segura and is signed up to 2020 or so). I'd be a little concerned about Tulo's .825 Away OPS vs .936 Home OPS, but he is signed through 2020 Yadier Molina - even though he's 30 years old, he's an incredible talent and leader and I value an elite level catcher over a SS. Signed through 2017 with a club option for 2018. Plus we could get plenty back for Lucroy in this scenario Joey Votto - again, he's 29, and that ain't a team friendly contract, but I'd have to at least consider taking it on. a .420+ OBP ain't easy to find
  2. So we're going to wear out our bullpen on Saturday. [sarcasm]Alright then[/sarcasm]
  3. If we had won the Furcal sweepstakes in 2011, got some more "luck" out of Marcum/Wolf/Greinke in the playoffs, and had a manager smart enough to not start Mark Kotsay in CF in the NLCS and made it to the World Series, then folks might say it was all worth it. That is a lot of "Ifs" though. And a bunch of them fall on DM (and RR who is an extension of DM's decisions)
  4. Gallardo likes pitching in the Lone Star state. He's pitching better and Texas needs starting pitching and outfielders. Packaging up Gallardo & Aoki could bring back a nice haul I understand Jurickson Profar is not available (supposedly) and I don't see a ton of great pitching prospects in the Rangers system, so I don't know if there is an obvious fit in terms of bringing back pitching. Mike Olt is no longer a top prospect The Rangers are said to be looking for pitching though http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/06/trade-deadline-notes-closers-phillies-potential-buyers.html
  5. Gallardo 4 shutout innings and a 2 hitter but maybe most importantly only 47 pitches so far.... granted its just the Astros but he seems to be turning it around. Love to see him just going after the hitters and not nibbling on the corners. We don't need Yo getting in deep counts every other batter
  6. Gindl absolutely smoked that ball in the first at-bat. I'm a huge Gindl fan and really rooting for him here in his first start
  7. I agree with all of that. One of the all-time greats. I had held out hope that there would be some sort of Sopranos movie coming out, and now it is evident that it was not meant to be, at least with the Tony Soprano character in it. Rest in peace to an incredibly gifted actor.
  8. I was amazed that Gindl wasn't given a chance to start but then realized it was a LHP we are facing.....
  9. That should be in Blue, right? Gindl is actually still on the MLB roster, right? Wow, RRR never ceases to amaze
  10. That is [sarcasm]kinda[/sarcasm] a problem. He stands poised to revitalize the organization with trades of Gallardo, Aoki, Ramirez, Axford, Henderson, K-Rod, Lohse. But I'm betting he won't do it. And normally I would say that should be reason for him to be fired. However I think the reason he won't make all those trades is he will be ordered not to by Mark A. And therein lies the bigger (biggest) part of the problem
  11. you know the Brewers are in a tailspin when In-Game Threads are just 1 page long. Wow
  12. I agree with all of that 100% and that is very well put. The Brewers have all the leverage in any proposed trade of Gallardo. They don't have to trade him. Because of that, a team will need to overpay for him
  13. I would up the ante considerably if they won't go Axford for Castellanos and say "OK how bout Henderson for Castellanos" or both Axford & Henderson for Castellanos
  14. Dodgers, Indians, Reds & Angels mentioned as teams that may want to upgrade 3B http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/last-place-milwaukee-brewers-could-trade-third-baseman-aramis-ramirez-053113 Gallardo mentioned in this article: "If the Brewers do decide to trade Gallardo, he will most likely be the best pitcher on the trade market." Here http://sportsheaven.sportsblog.com/post/80842/five_players_who_are_likely.html
  15. I recognize that Fielding % is hardly a great stat to prove defensive worth but Halton has had a consistently strong Fielding % Halton doesn't really hit for power enough to be considered a strong prospect at 1B. He gets on base pretty well but doesn't walk enough to make up for the marginal power That said, it is true he has outhit Morris this season in AAA. It remains to be seen if Morris' .563 slugging % in AA ball was an anomaly or not because this season he's back to slugging in the .400's again (although he is Slugging .530 vs RHP). Here's the thing: Morris & Halton could be a very potent platoon together at 1B. Morris slugged .611 vs RHP in 2011 at AA . Halton hit .312 vs LHP for the same team. The fact that Halton can play OF even improves his value I don't know if either of them could be a dynamic contributor at the MLB level playing 150 games a year, but in a platoon situation the both of them could indeed man 1B together successfully starting in 2014
  16. Trading Greinke was necessary because he was about to become a free agent and we were out of it Melvin has never traded away good/significant players who are under team control with a few years left on their contract, has he?. Mark A seems constantly concerned with public perception of the Brewers being a team that tries to be a "winner", that is why I see no reason to think the Brewers will make significant trades as sellers, other than to try to move Hart (if he's even back) or other players who could just walk after the 2013 season
  17. The more I think about it, the less likely I think it is that the Brewers will trade significant players at the trade deadline. I believe that the Brewers think they can contend in 2014 I think that they should trade Gallardo, Lohse, Aoki, K-Rod, Axford, Ramirez and restock their farm system with multiple great prospects. Somehow though, as the title says "I'll Believe It When I See It". As much as it makes perfect sense to sell big at the deadline to many of us here at Brewerfan.net, I think Mark A & Doug Melvin sincerely believe the line of "several players are underperforming and that along with all of the injuries is why we aren't winning more". They see Segura & Gomez emerging as potential stars, see Weeks starting to hit better, believe that Lohse & Gallardo are still top of the rotation guys and see the Brewers contending in 2014 with a few upgrades. I think such thinking is a fatal flaw that could doom our franchise into more mediocrity, and I sincerely hope I'm wrong. If you see it differently, help me out here. Ease the mind of a concerned die hard Brewers fan. Is there any indication that the Brewers will retool/rebuild?
  18. Gallardo's 14 straight shut-out innings combined with his success in previous seasons really does make him a much more viable trade candidate. Sadly I think Melvin & Mark A will hold onto Gallardo, thinking that he will be a key ingredient in "next season's window"
  19. This is inaccurate. Back when I played Little League we used wood bats. Today's aluminum bats are much more dangerous especially for the pitchers 12 and under throwing from 46 feet, the ball really jumps off of these modern bats Getting back to the MLB point of view: I am sure there are companies trying to develop something that is light but provides more safety for pro pitcher's heads. I understand that relatively speaking pitchers getting hit in the head by line drives doesn't happen all that often, but still anything that can be done to help keep people safe is a good thing, I think
  20. It isn't likely that the Mets are trading Zack Wheeler unless it is part of a deal for either Braun or Segura. I'm not convinced as to how great Wheeler will be anyways, although it is hard to tell because pitcher's stats are inflated playing in Las Vegas.
  21. Yet another pitcher was hit in the head today with a line drive and taken off the field on a stretcher. How long before all pitchers will start wearing helmets? Does someone have to die first before a chance is made? If your kid was a Little Leaguer pitching, would you require them to wear a helmet on the mound?
  22. It isn't really a logical conclusion based on past results, more of a gut instinct. I think he's a smart player and as he grows into a veteran he may discover additional ways to be valuable. I think his pitch selection is pretty good, he doesn't seem to swing at a ton of pitches outside the zone (right now MLB pitchers are just challenging him and not trying to get him to chase). Also his walk rate this year in AAA was up a little this season as opposed to previous years, I'm hoping that will be a developing trend
  23. I've said it before but I like Scooter's potential a lot. At the very least he projects (to me at least) as a player who can give very professional at-bats vs RHPs at the MLB level and hit for Average in the .280-.310 range with an OBP of 50-60 points higher than his BA..... there is value in that Now I have zero statistical analysis to project the following, based on his Minor League history, but I think there's a chance that as he ages he could develop into a guy who walks enough to have a 90-100 point jump in OBP over BA. I really think he could eventually be a .290/.380 guy
  24. Davis is having a fairly brutal season, even in AAA, hitting .218 with just a .381 Slugging % in AAA ball (although to his credit, he is drawing walks and has a .333 OBP). In his last 10 games Davis is hitting just .125 with a .470 OPS Gindl has pretty significantly outplayed Davis throughout the AAA season so far. I'm glad they are going to DL Braun. We're not going to the playoffs this year anyways. Let him get healed up. Hopefully they'll actually get Gindl some playing time
