  1. Oh Lord! Please no..... Hopefully Roenicke doesn't start him in CF!
  2. Not a bad reason, I suppose. There is a huge mental component to Baseball
  3. Signed out of high school, Ben has way less power and more speed than Mat. He's averaged 20 SB's the last 2 seasons. He's strictly an outfielder with a .396 career slugging % in the minors
  4. Is this another example of Roenicke going with the small sample "hot hand" (oooh he's got a 1.13 ERA in Spring Training!) or is it a psychological move or do they really believe Gallardo is their best pitcher? Gallardo was worse than Lohse & Garza last year but this year is this year and Ron Roenicke loves those small samples
  5. I'd be pretty surprised to see both Overbay and Fracisco make the team. 2 LHB 1B's? It'll be Reynolds and either Overbay or Francisco
  6. Why would Boston, of all teams, trade for a player who can only play 2B?
  7. I fully expect Weeks to have a big year this year and out produce Gennett, provided Weeks stays healthy (which is always the situation/condition with him). I would be in favor of keeping him and trading him at the deadline if we are out of it or just keeping him all season.
  8. Sickels said " it sure isn’t a good system at this point and has to be in the conversation for worst. Something needs to change." What needs to change specifically? An entire restructuring of the front office from the GM on down? Or bringing in new scouts/minor league instructional people. If the Brewers don't have the $$$ to be big players in free agency, then they need to develop talent, obviously. Is there that big of a difference in the front office or in minor league coaching from the wave of Fielder/Weeks/Braun/Hardy/Hart/Gallardo to now? Or is it just that the Brewers have been shooting blanks in the draft since that big wave? Is Jack Z the missing link? I feel these questions belong with this topic because these players were considered very good prospects coming out of the draft but still aren't MLB ready yet. Is the problem scouting or development or both?
  9. Morris certainly does project as a platoon player. He rakes against RHP
  10. I've got 15-1 odds on Scooter Gennett being injured by a Gatorade Cooler falling 12-1 odds on Jim Henderson being injured by his hand getting stuck in a door
  11. I'll admit to being a Hunter Morris fan and thus somewhat biased but I think calling this year's Spring Training "abysmal" is a little harsh when it has been only 16 AB's. That is about as small sample as it gets and speaks to the frustration I have with the Brewers front office: why is Lyle Overbay even on the roster and taking Spring Training at-bats away from Hunter Morris?! The Brewers already have a few mediocre 1B vets in Francisco & Reynolds. They really need a 3rd? Wouldn't it be better to give Morris the at-bats that Overbay is getting in Spring Training and give him more experience and a longer look?
  12. yes I realize I mistakenly posted it that way. Green was sent to Minor League camp
  13. It is only a "small sample" of 2 Spring Trainings but I believe Ron Roenicke has a habit of overvaluing Spring Training stats as well as "hot streaks". I certainly hope they aren't putting much weight on Overbay's .450 OBP so far this spring! The guy had a .688 OPS last year, .727 OPS the year before, and .670 OPS in 2011! But Overbay is a "gritty vet who takes good at-bats"....
  14. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/249356871.html I realize players like this can be up & down between MLB & AAA but I was hoping Green could stick this season. Clearly they think Morris needs more development
  15. Baseball is light years more mentally tiring than association football or just about any other sport.
  16. I've heard from some pretty credible former MLB players that Suppan & Hoffman were extremely valuable in the clubhouse. Suppan apparently really taught players like Gallardo a lot about how to pitch in MLB. The value of signing a veteran cannot be measured simply in Sabermetrics.
  17. Peter Gammons was on MLB Network today talking about how Jonathon Lucroy is one of the most underrated players in MLB, and how Lucroy is one of the greatest at framing pitches and handling pitchers....he went on to say that he thinks Garza will have his best years of his career because of Lucroy. That was cool to hear
  18. That downtime is when Rock gets to repeat the same 6 or 7 things he says all season about hitters
  19. Craig Coshun seems like a great person who does a lot for charity and loves Wisconsin sports, but Matt Lepay is a huge upgrade over him as a play by play guy
  20. Awesome! I sincerely wish him the best of luck and great health and happiness but I am very happy he will not be a Brewers player in 2014
  21. We are serious playoff contenders in 2014. It just depends on many intangibles: 1) The health of the Pirates, Cardinals & Reds as we as our own health. 2) The development of younger players like Gomez, Segura, Lucroy, Gennett, Davis 3) Ryan Braun playing like the Ryan Braun of 2008-2011 I wouldn't call the Brewers "favorites" but I'm not counting them out either
  22. I pretty much agree with all of that. We have an owner who is paranoid about losing fans if we are viewed in rebuilding mode (and he probably has some logical right to feel that way). We do need some bigtime changes in the way we do things. For instance just the simple fact that not one Brewers coach or front office person could see that Axford was tipping his pitches. Then as soon as Axford gets to St Louis they fill him in on how he's been tipping his pitches and he improves dramatically.
  23. I think/hope the Overbay signing is mostly insurance in case Ramirez or Francisco or Reynolds gets hurt I am expecting Mark Reynolds to start most of the season and put up 200 strikeouts and 35 bombs with about 90 walks. Our new 3TO
  24. 35+ HR's and all will be forgiven by the casual fans Personally, I've already gotten over it
  25. Well count me in as being certainly happy about this signing. Good deal on a pitcher who isn't over-the-hill and has potential plus he knows the NL Central hitters well
