  1. This looks weird. The A's seem to be receiving a lot of their own stuff... Time is a flat circle The Earth is not flat! Fake news!!!!
  2. Eric Sogard would hit well there That response genuinely made me smile. I wonder though, if that brings up a bigger point. Since everyone hits well there, would the Rockies be better off putting 90% of their payroll into pitching and running out a position player lineup of mostly league minimum guys?
  3. That's a pretty good move by the Rockies. He'll hit well there
  4. The ability to be fluid week to week & utilize minor league options requires great depth. That's why I have doubts about any of our young pitchers being moved when I see them mentioned in trade rumors. We're gonna need all of them!
  5. I actually think it is a good signing. Harvey might be due for a bounce back year, it's a pitcher's park, it is just one season.
  6. Despite Yasmani Grandal being a year & a half younger than Manny Pina, he already has 483 more games & 1,866 more plate appearances. Yasmani was a full time starter at age 25, it took Manny until he was 30 to crack 300 PAs in a season. MP 2017-18 | 266/317/410 (90 wRC+) 696 PAs YG 2017-18 | 244/329/462 (114 wRC+) 1,000 PAs MP career | 263/318/401 (90 wRC+) 794 PAs YG career | 240/341/441 (117 wRC+) 2,660 PAs In 2018 & 2017 Yasmani ranked 1st & 4th by BPro's catching metric which include framing, blocking & throwing. Pina ranked 19th & 31st. Thanks! Much appreciated
  7. I have yet to see or hear any compelling argument as to how Yasmani Grandal is better than Manny Pina...
  8. That is a reasonable bet. Although I suspect that if the Brewers deal Ray it'll be for a greater positional need such as pitching or a catcher. Profar did hit 20 MLB HR's last year. He is an interesting player who might have finally figured it out.
  9. Watch Stearns shock us and pull the trigger on Machado, moving Shaw to 2nd and playing Machado at SS when Arcia needs a rest. I'm not predicting that, but if there is one thing we've learned about Stearns: expect the unexpected.
  10. I don't hate the trade, but I think if the shoe was on the other foot, and we tendered say Cedeno and traded him for the #39 pick, many of the same people who love this would love that too. Well yeah I'd be ecstatic, because Cedeno isn't nearly as good as Claudio.
  11. Miller grew up in Wisconsin. Good to see him mentioned
  12. The Padres make no sense to me. Are they in? Are they out? What does this signing do for them?
  13. I'm not privy to advanced metrics like spin rate & biometrics etc, but just from the eye test it looked like Jeffress was completely gassed at the end of the season & in the postseason, and Hader took a step backwards in September (though he rebounded in the playoffs). I think if the Brewers pull this off they are going to need more depth, and they'll need to rest their top relief aces more during the season
  14. This is such a tiny upgrade over Xavier Cedeno that the cost certainly has to be factored in. I'll take a slightly worse LOOGY and keep the pick. The value of a LOOGY is fairly small anyways. I can certainly respect that point of view. Thanks for some food for thought. I'll need to look into how much of an upgrade Claudio is over Cedeno.
  15. When you finish 1 game away from the World Series, with a vast majority of your core talent coming back, you gotta go for it the next year. Improving the bullpen in 2019 is more important that an extra draft pick who might impact the team in 3-6 years.
  16. If Hader, Jeffress, Knebel each go 80 IP, as does presumeably a few more traditional relief pitcher guys, where do you make up the innings from the "each guy goes 120 innings" model that gets a team to 1400? Playing the AAA shuffle game? Trust me, I'm all for this development, just fascinated as to how it will work...
  17. It is a fascinating development and I'm all for it. The question remains, though, how many innings can you get out of somebody like Hader? He went from having "one of the best relief pitcher seasons of All-Time" to "one of the top 2 or 3 relief pitchers in the 2018 season" in September. Was that because he was starting to get worn down? Or was it just a weird statistical oddity of a few rough outings? I dunno, but I suspect you can't count on more than 80 innings in a season from pitchers like Hader, Jeffress, Knebel. The other question I have is: if you had a pitcher like Scherzer, how best to utilize him? Or better yet, let's say our dreams come true and Corbin Burnes emerges as one of the Top 5 "starters" in Baseball. Is it really more valuable to have him pitch 3 innings on two days rest and max out around 160 innings? Is that physically sustainable? Or is it better to get 210 innings out of him pitching once every 5 games?
  18. Lot of good discussion going on here. This is a great example of what a special place this forum is, that we are having this level of detail in conversation about a player who will be the 24th/25th Guy on the roster. I love it.
  19. Also, don't assume that Stearns won't make another trade or two in the next few years that gets us another draft pick. This is all part of a much bigger plan
  20. Claudio has consistently gotten LH hitters out. This improves the team while still keeping trade assets & money available for other deals. Good move.
  21. Kluber is a potential difference maker for a team that finished one game away from the World Series. I'd trade Peralta or Woodruff plus Ray for him. Not giving up Hiura or Burnes though
  22. The one complaint I have is that I wish they'd have the Angels on more often. The MLB product grows more when showcasing generational talents like Trout.
  23. Actually, given when Baines played... I think it's more about some equality for those who didn't juice. Baines doesn't have the eye-popping numbers of Sosa and McGwire, but he also never juiced. There is no way to really know that. I think most of MLB was juicing in the 90's & early 2000's. Baines had one of his best offensive seasons at the age of 40, in 1999, hitting .312 ... I'm just supposed to believe that he was one of the genetic marvels who aged like Ted Williams or Stan Musial & wasn't juicing? Playing for the Orioles with teammates Brady Anderson & Albert Belle?
  24. Ryan Braun has a 46.4 career WAR in 12 seasons Harold Baines had a 38.7 career WAR in 22 seasons
  25. Baines is really perplexing to me. Never won an MVP or batting title, never led the league in any batting category other than once he led the league in SLG. He was famous and played 22 years, I guess somehow that makes him a Hall of Famer?!
