  1. There really isn't anyone available from the Mariners that would compel me to trade away Burnes or Woodruff. That's all well and good that the Mariners are having a dumpster fire garage sale, but I like the bright future of our prospects more.
  2. Exactly. Just a conversation in a slow beginning to the Hot Stove season I'd want Vlad Jr.... Barring injury, Vlad Jr looks like a HOF type talent.... Like the kind of guy who could hit .380 with 45 HR's in his peak seasons. I'd trade Yelich for him and even throw in Davies or Anderson
  3. A) I'm guessing Machado, to the White Sox or Phillies. Harper will sign later, with the Yankees or Giants. There's a chance that the Phillies will sign both Harper & Machado which will be the blockbuster news of the winter. B). Yes. Corbin to the Yankees C) Corbin. I don't have a prediction re the 2nd question D). I think the market will be similarly depressed as last year. Maybe not quite as bad. In general MLB is trending younger & younger. Younger free agents like Machado & Harper will still command huge contracts. Older free agents like LeMahieu, Donaldson, & Moustakas? Not as much...
  4. Yes, I would. Even though it would be 2 years of Trout for 4 years of Yelich. I think Trout would hit 55 HR's a year playing half his games in Miller Park plus 9 games in Cincy etc
  5. It's a good question I'd take Vlad Jr plus a couple of the Blue Jays top pitching prospects for Yelich in a heartbeat.
  6. With them so close to the Luxury Tax, do you think they go over and go after Harper and Machado?
  7. I don't doubt that Stearns is one of many GM's working on getting a Realmuto trade done. Hard to imagine him giving up Hiura & Burnes, and also hard to imagine he can get the trade done w/o trading Hiura & Burnes. Maybe some sort of Woodruff/Dubon/Davies/Ray package? But I'd think another team would be able to top that offer
  8. Good hire! (I think) It is good to get everyone on the same page in terms of analytics. I'll be interested in seeing if Stearns brings in another high contact/high batting average hitter ala Cain/Yelich. The 3TO guys are good to have in a few spots in the lineup, but too many of them really kill rallies & comebacks etc, especially in the postseason.
  9. I'll believe it when I see it... https://thatmetschick.com/2018/10/31/bryce-harper-moves-into-a-long-island-city-apartment-where-4-current-mets-live/?fbclid=IwAR1bCHK8FVdaw-RkAu70R2m8moiCYZ-wSaVY-weH6h4ULByCAgF8BvzjcEc
  10. This talk about Yasmani Grandal is scary, to me. The guy was an unbelievably horrible defensive catcher in the playoffs...
  11. Thanks for the post. Great to see Travis Shaw should never face a LHP. Hernan is OK as a platoon vs LHP, but it'd be nice to increase production there. Looking at this makes it make more sense to keep Schoop, maybe see if Hiura is ready mid season and trade Schoop at the deadline.
  12. I'm wondering if the Yankees will sign both Machado & Harper? I kinda figure Machado will be a Yankee. The problem is they still won't have enough pitching. Is it possible they sign Harper and/or Machado and a top pitching free agent like Corbin?
  13. Fun reading all the speculation here, but Stearns has taken the Brewers from "oh my God, please make it stop" to one win away from the World Series in a few short years, so I kinda think he can more than handle this. I am definitely appreciative of the work Derek Johnson did for the Brewers, and wish him well. Outside looking in of course, but it'll be interesting to see what if anything he does differently in Cincy, and how the Brewers do things moving forwards. I think the Brewers are about to flip the script even more with the way they utilize their "out getters", in all sorts of innovative ways. Personally I can't wait.
  14. Ahhhh yes, the good old 2011 draft, when we passed on Jose Fernandez, Sonny Gray, Trevor Story, Michael Fulmer, and yes Blake Snell to take Taylor Jungmann. Ugh.
  15. If only Doug Melvin had gotten the Mets GM job, I would have put money on him signing Brantley. But first he would have given Josh Donaldson a 5 year $110 million contract, and signed Gio Gonzalez for 3 years $60 million.
  16. Shaw is OK. He should never, ever face LHP's. Aguillar clearly has holes that MLB pitchers found in the 2nd half. He'll need to adjust back.
  17. Look at the kind of money he'd be walking away from. I don't think there is any way the Brewers would be in the bidding. He's got Cubs written all over him. I'm thinking Rangers. Kershaw is a Texas guy. Go back home and get huge money, and be part of the Rangers rebuild.... Maybe
  18. I'm rooting for Kershaw to become a free agent because it would increase the Brewers extremely slight chance to get Patrick Corbin.
  19. Jalen Beeks. That's all the Red Sox had to give up to get Eovaldi. Hindsight is of course 20/20. For all the things Stearns did right, if he would have identified Eovaldi and outbid the Red Sox for him, Eovaldi could have been the difference maker for the Brewers this postseason. Again, it's all just 20/20 hindsight. You can certainly see that Stearns had other holes to fill. But wow Eovaldi was awesome this postseason. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=beeks-000jal
  20. A lot can change, obviously, but I like that some big strong HS third basemen are listed right around where the Brewers pick. Rece Hinds would be a nice addition to the Brewers farm system. https://www.perfectgame.org/players/playerprofile.aspx?ID=373927
  21. Agree on that. The only reason they might not go in that direction is budget concerns. At the very least, bring him back and shop him around this winter.
  22. Dombrowski now has 2 World Series rings as a GM, achieved 21 years apart ('97 Marlins). Really shows just how tough it is to do. He received (and in my opinion, deserved) a lot of criticism for the moves he made with the Tigers, and in recent years with Boston, but he got it done this year. Hats off to him...
  23. I could see Hader as an occasional "opener", pitching the first 2-3 innings vs a lefty heavy opponent, especially if we continue to build high level bullpen depth like I think we will. But as a traditional "starter"? No. I think the Brewers are going to move further away from the concept of starting pitchers anyways...
  24. Purely guessing, but I'm thinking Derek Johnson is going to have a big say in terms of the new bullpen coach...
