  1. The game is really changing. Lots of K's and lots of HR's. Tons of shifting and hitters trying to put the ball in the air. Shaw at 2B isn't the craziest thing I've seen, considering he likely won't amd shouldn't start vs top LHP's and there are capable late inning defensive replacements available. The poster(s) who said that we are basically replacing Miller/Villar with Moustakas are correct. That is a tremendous offensive upgrade. And the Moose will be loose in Miller Park, not the bigger outfields/stadiums of the AL Central. I just hope we get one more strong starting pitcher, otherwise this still looks to me like a better version of the 2012 Brewers. Yes, it is possible that we can get super hot and out slug our opponents in the postseason, but that isn't usually how Baseball works. As a piece of the puzzle I am thrilled with this trade. And yes, this Stearns fan likes the idea of Shaw at 2B! (Although I wouldn't be shocked if this is a short term smokescreen before we trade Shaw as part of a package for a TOR starter)
  2. Considering how well Corey Ray has played in AA this year, the Brewers likely saw Phillips as a 7th Outfielder at best over the next 3-4 years. Considering the upcoming 40 Man Roster crunch, they needed to move Phillips. Moustakas makes the Brewers better. I'm happy about that. Similar to Cain, he has a proven track record in deep postseason runs, too, which is something I like a lot....
  3. I didn't read the whole thread, so forgive me if this was already covered: Baseball Reference lists Moustakas as having a $15 million mutual option for 2019. Does this mean he isn't a 2 month rental & the Brewers can keep him for next season?
  4. The "boom or bust" offense of 2017 is, in part, a direct reason for the acquisitions of Cain & Yelich. Yelich is a little streaky, but both Cain & Yelich are great contact hitters who are versatile offensively and aren't swinging for the fences in every at bat. Add in Keston Hiura who is hitting .364 in AA and the Brewers will fairly soon have 3 great hitters at the top of the order....
  5. Brice Turang might be ready as soon as 2021 or 2022, but the Brewers have to sign him first.
  6. Have to think this is more about finding AAAA depth and a potential upgrade for the 25th spot on the roster. I really don't believe that Miller will take away playing time from Arcia.
  7. Would that be before or after you thank him for trading Gomez/Fiers for Hader/Santana/Phillips/Houser? I think that trade showed that Melvin was perfectly capable of making intelligent rebuilding moves. I've been as critical of Melvin as anyone, but in retrospect I think he was mostly acting on Mark A's "win with a limited budget" directives.
  8. Often, yes. But I've seen interviews with Scooter where he specifically talks about the Reds' hitting coach helping him change his swing, and everyone pretty much raves about Edgar Martinez as a hitting coach.
  9. This is similar to the topic of Scooter Gennett. If you want the current version of Scooter, you need to also have the Reds' hitting coach, because he's the one who help Scooter change his swing. If you are asking if I'd like to have the current version of Mitch Haniger, then, yes I'd love it if Edgar Martinez was the Brewers' hitting coach. These things don't exist in a vacuum, no matter how much we want them to. Do Rangers fans want Jeffress back? Yes, they want Derek Johnson as their pitching coach... For what's it worth, I was never in favor of being buyers at the deadline from 2012-2016
  10. Can you guys start a separate thread about Heimlich? I was enjoying the discussion about the actual Brewers draft picks.
  11. I agree but I don't know how you accomplish that with Aguilar, Choi and Braun in the lineup. I guess... Ji-Man isn't exactly looking like David Ortiz out there. I understand wanting to get the extra LH bat in vs Kluber though
  12. I'm absolutely thrilled with the Rasmussen pick. That is exactly the type of high risk/high reward type pick I want the Brewers to make in the 6th Round. Lots of 6th Round picks never amount to much, and maybe Rasmussen won't either. But if he does, you just got 1st Round talent in the 6th Round! Love it!!!!
  13. Really weird that the ever so fragile Braun is not DH'ing in these AL ballparks
  14. As a fellow LSU fan, I agree... However I hope Turang isn't playing for LSU (but as a Brewers fan & LSU fan, I honestly see it as a "win/win situation")
  15. I look at our farm system and the only hitter I'm excited about is Hiura. And then I'm cautiously optimistic on a few others. There are lots of pitchers in our farm system I'm excited about. It certainly makes sense to restock on position players at the top of this draft. And I trust that Turang & Gray were rated higher by the Brewers than any pitcher available at the time of their pick.
  16. I'd be fascinated to know the story behind Kumar Rocker. Could he have been had in the 1st Round if we went way over slot? And of course how will he turn out?
  17. It will if he's hitting .228 in A+ Ball in 2020 I fully expect Turang to take awhile to develop. A lot of high school draftees struggle at first even in A Ball. But I think this kid could be the next great Shortstop for the Brewers, hopefully ready for the Show when Arcia goes into free agency
  18. Strongly agree. They don't need all of the athletic OF's to live up to their ceiling, one of Lutz, Ray, Gray, Bello will likely be stars....
  19. Stearns loves athleticism and Gray represents that. I was impressed with him in the televised All Star Games I saw. Sort of a "poor man's Jo Adell" though I suspect his bat will take longer to develop than Adell's Just keep taking outfielders, Ray, Lutz, Gray, eventually one of them will make it...
  20. Blue Jays got a good one in Conine. We hardly need another corner outfielder but his bat will play. Lots of bat speed & power. Could be special
  21. Banfield still not picked, right? He's a great defensive catcher but I've read there are questions with his bat. Do you take him and pay over Slot?
  22. I'm very happy with the Turang pick. Very high value at 21. I wouldn't underestimate the temptation to go to LSU, but I doubt the Brewers would have taken him in the 1st Round if they didn't think he would sign Any thoughts on Hankins, Rocker & Banfield? Are all 3 demanding too much money? Are all 3 going to Vanderbilt?
