  1. Mike Trout wasn't a Top 10 pick. You have to nail your picks and develop them. No shortcuts
  2. He was relatively effective as recently as 2015. If the Brewers can get him turned around he has value.
  3. Braun can't play CF. We don't have a 4-6 WAR CF right now who is available to trade. Personally I think Bryce Harper might be a better defensive CF than Eaton, but then again I'm an armchair GM
  4. I wonder how much McCutchen still being out there will effect Braun's trade value. Cutch is younger and better on defense and more durable, though Braun was better offensively last year
  5. yeah I suppose I wasn't factoring in Eaton's defense, it isn't like he is a terrible player. I guess it depends on if you believe the Giolito hype. Dunning will just be in A ball this year, so too soon to tell
  6. I know, right? And Dunning is a legit prospect, former 1st Round pick, 6'4 RHP with a 0.925 WHIP and 2.02 ERA in his rookie year of MiLB. Lopez is more of a throw-in. But Giolito & Dunning for Eaton? I'd be happy with Giolito & Dunning for Braun. But watta I know? (armchair GM)
  7. The Nationals are weird. Eaton is pretty good but not elite. Makes me wonder how much we can get in a trade for one of Ray/Phillips/Brinson if all 3 develop to Eaton's 117 OPS+ .790 OPS, 15 HR 15 SB level
  8. It's an interesting trade, to me. Soler is only 24 and hasn't blossomed into a star as hoped by Cubs fans but for the "small sample stat fans" (!) he has hit .344/.488.781 for a big ol' 1.269 OPS in the postseason. We've all seen flashes from him Davis meanwhile was an All-Time great in '14 & '15 but slipped to merely very good to awesome in '16, and will be paid $10 million in 2017 before becoming a free agent after next season

  10. Exactly. You build your pitching staff thinking in 2 areas. One is to get through a 162 game season without burning out your aces. The other is how you set up in a 5 game or 7 game series. Pitchers like Garza & Hill can help you in the regular season in multiple ways. Obviously there is plenty of risk in that type of investment
  11. I think it is obvious that Stearns values athleticism & versatility. Also he isn't just going all in on any one prospect at the primary positions, because you never truly know who is going to hit MLB pitching and who isn't. We were all excited about Brett Phillips but that didn't stop Stearns from getting Ray & Brinson. Same with the acquisition of Villar even though we had Arcia coming up and now the acquisition of Dubon. You throw enough on the wall, some of it is going to stick
  12. Maybe. It'll be interesting to see. I think Moncada will be a superstar. One of the Top 5 players in the game very soon
  13. Mauricio Dubon seems like quality, not quantity, to me. It remains to be seen whether Arcia can be a solid MLB hitter. Dubon isn't Moncada but Thornburg isn't Sale, either
  14. And, the Red Sox agree to pay the $31.2 million left on Moncada's contract, too?! Crazy
  15. Counsell on MLB Network today said that Arcia is the SS moving forwards and they expect Villar to play "alot of second base"
  16. Moncada is a huge addition to the White Sox, not to mention all the rest of the return
  17. I see this trade as a good example of Stearns staying ahead of the curve, the price of relief pitchers is ridiculous these days. And there are more and more pitchers arriving every year who can throw upper 90's or higher Thornburg gave us 67 innings last year. It might be different if he was a 120 inning "fireman" type, but I don't think he can ever reliably be that kind of guy because of injury concerns. If you look at the return we got for W Smith & Thornburg, both of whom are good but neither is a Chapman or Wade Davis, that is really maximizing leverage in a positive way.
  18. I'm such a big Scooter fan that I can't even be objective about him. I do realize that he isn't exactly Cano or Altuve. Still think he has value, if they keep him, as a platoon player. I don't think trading for Shaw ends Scooter's time in Milwaukee, necessarily.
  19. This is a heckuva great trade for the Brewers. Thornburg is good but the price for good relief pitching is sky high, possibly higher than it will ever be again. Excited about Dubon in particular
  20. I think it'd be more like Trout for Braun, Arcia, Nelson, Hader, Brinson, Villar
  21. Very well said & I agree wholeheartedly The lefty power bat is huge, hard to fine, and should not be underestimated. Fits in the Stearns mode of athletic versatilty much better than the one dimensional Carter, too
  22. Best thing we can do to contend is for Arcia, Villar, Brinson, Santana, and our pitchers to elevate their game to All-Star levels and beyond.... then when we have the division lead in July we can trade for a difference maker
  23. Need to get pitching for Braun, in my opinion
  24. No. You can get non marquee team lower level seats on stubhub for 25 bucks or less. And even less on the day of the game from somebody on the street. Good to know. Thank you. My kid really did have a blast attending the game on Saturday. Giannis is one helluva player and I was impressed with how many hardcore fans were there who seem all-in on every shot. Throw in the dancing women and the acrobats dunking off of trampolines, and the mascot, and T-Shirts being thrown into the crowd on every made 3 pointer and all the other crazy stuff they had going on, it was a fun atmosphere.
