  1. That would be a weird rule. And it would still allow shifting. A SS vs a LH hitter could stand within a foot of second base, for instance
  2. I really like Walsh's approach at the plate. I think he'll be a part of our longterm success
  3. haven't checked the weather..... is it raining in Minnesota? Hoping they this game in
  4. Good to see Scooter continuing to start vs LHP's. His at-bats vs Garcia weren't terrible, Garcia was just on. Had a good 3-1 pitch to hit in his 1st at-bat but he looked at it, then got a nasty 3-2 changeup for the strikeout. I'm convinced Scooter can hit LHP's enough to be an every day player
  5. Panda? I'd rather bring back Bill Hall That isn't in Blue on purpose, by the way
  6. Domingo Santana with a .355 OBP to start the season Scooter Gennett looking better than ever Jimmy Nelson looking like a real deal MLB starter Jeffress looking strong Villar with a .423 OBP, looking good in the field and at the very least the Super Utility guy of the future Yadiel Rivera making the most of his opportunities There is a lot to be excited about with the start of this season Oh, and in the first 5 games of AAA ball: Arcia is hitting .300 w/ a .364 OBP
  7. I didn't read through the whole thread so forgive me if someone else mentioned this: I think Jungmann is tipping his pitches. I thought he executed most of his pitches pretty well, and the Cardinals just jumped on everything like they knew what he was throwing on every pitch. It is possible that their hitters are just really dialed in right now and Jungmann was "off", but I suspect there is more going on
  8. Babe Ruth. Funniest thing I've ever seen on Brewersfan.net Well maybe besides Woah Solv'd (or however that was spelled)
  9. No offense but I am very confused by people who think players taking pitches is more entertaining to watch. I can understand that! I suppose part of it is the Baseball coach in me. I want to see the Brewers win. Force the pitchers to throw strikes. Jump all over pitches in your wheelhouse but be patient and take your walks when you get them. I've always appreciated players with a high OBP.
  10. Should be a fun series to watch. The Astros have some great players. Carlos Correa in particular is just a tremendous talent. The Brewers, so far at least to me, are a much more entertaining team than last year. I love the improved approach at the plate. Not nearly as many free swingers. Lots of young talented players who are figuring it out.
  11. One thing I've learned as I've gotten deeper into coaching and in talking to former pros is that there is so much going on behind the scenes that we never know about, especially with pitchers and their arm health. I don't have any inside info w/ the Brewers at all, no contacts there but it is entirely possible that some of Pena's struggles and perceived "lack of chances" has more to do with an elbow or shoulder not being 100% than any sort of organizational politics. It really is somewhat stunning what pro pitchers go through to try to be healthy enough to compete. Read Jeff Passan's new book "The Arm" for additional insight
  12. I think when you see someone as a prospect it is hard to accept that they just might not turn out the way you had high hopes for. I've felt that way about several players over the years, Hunter Morris most recently
  13. I was thrilled to see Scooter Gennett looking so good at the plate today
  14. Very much looking forward to today's game. Here's hoping Wily pitches a gem!!!! Scooter Gennett has become my favorite player. I'm glad to see him get the start vs LHP today. If ever there was a season where he should be allowed to show that he can hit lefties, it is this one
  15. Buster Posey Salvador Perez Yadier Molina Francisco Cervelli Lucroy You could make an argument that Lucroy is better than Cervelli, you could make an argument that Russell Martin is better than Lucroy. Is Kyle Schwarber a Catcher? Supposedly he is going to catch at least one game a week this year. You could make the argument that Schwarber is more valuable than Lucroy considering age & potential Anyways, yes, Lucroy is anywhere from the #3 Catcher in MLB to #7, in my opinion. Can't see him ranking lower than 7. The trade value for him should be very high, especially now that he has proven in Spring Training that the concussion is behind him and he can still play the position at an elite level.
  16. Wily Peralta named opening day starter. Hopefully he has a great season!
  17. I strongly agree. Although Isan Diaz is the wildcard in that trade. How he ends up as a player will dictate a lot as to who "won" that trade. Anderson & Hill are mere throw-ins
  18. 1. Orlando Arcia 2. Brett Phillips 3. Trent Clark 4. Jacob Nottingham 5. Jorge Lopez 6. Clint Coulter 7. Josh Hader 8. Isan Diaz 9. Zach Davies 10 Yadiel Rivera 11 Kodi Medeiros 12. Monte Harrison 13 Devin Williams 14. Michael Reed 15. Cody Ponce 16. Marcos Diplan 17. Jacob Gatewood 18. Demi Orimoloye 19. Adrian Houser 20. Tyrone Taylor 21. Nathan Kirby 22. Miguel Diaz 23. Rymer Liriano 24. Gilbert Lara 25. Bubba Derby
  19. Good points all around. I really like Broxton a lot. He can go get it in CF and is a great baserunner. I'm extremely optimistic about his potential
  20. Please no! This is the complete opposite of what they should be doing. A 30 yr old OF with a .464 OPS last season?!?! .642 for his career? Pretty clear he was an insurance guy if they had a rash of injuries, didn't like what they saw from the young guys, etc. If EYJ makes the 25, then I honestly don't know what the plan is here. (And don't tell me he can always be traded. He is what he is at age 30, which isn't much. No upside like the younger guys. Helps the team long term if a few others can be kept in AAA, preventing their clock from starting. There is also the chance that EY Jr has a strong comeback year and can be traded at the deadline (not likely but possible). Young is a veteran who might adapt better to a pinch-hitting role than a younger player, too I'm not saying that I personally would keep EY Jr on the MLB roster, just saying I could see it happen. It is also conceivable that EY Jr would accept an assignment to AAA ball, too.
  21. I think Eric Young, Jr will be the 5th OF Braun, Santana, Broxton, Flores, EY Jr
  22. Walsh reminds me a little of Casey McGehee in terms of a late developer who can give you some solid production in his peak years. Considering that he is 26 years old, I think he's got some real potential over the next several years to help the Brewers. Gotta love his .302/.447 output in AA last year
  23. The Royals are set to go with Christian Colon at 2B, one of the reasons they were OK with not trying to sign Zobrist. Colon profiles as likely better than Gennett. I don't see the Royals taking on Braun's contract, either, they just spent money extending Gordon and Perez, and have other players that will soon be free agents. Meanwhile, Scooter isn't going anywhere until teams are certain about his health
  24. He worked hard and competed for the Brewers which is something I will always appreciate. My biggest memory of Wolf though, is him giving Lucroy a hard time, seemingly in public, and needing his own personal veteran catcher. That was kinda strange, kinda diva-like behavior for an average to below average MLB starter.
