  1. "Lucroy not in lineup". It is a scheduled day off but does help fuel trade rumor talk
  2. I'd prefer "the guy". We don't have enough elite prospects in the system. Hader & Arcia might be the only ones. I would prefer 1 player who is as close to the sure thing as possible (i.e. a Bregman or Moncada) over a bunch of maybe/could be prospects
  3. Meanwhile Jacob Nottingham is hitting .237/.304/.339 in AA ball. He's only 21 years old though, so he has time to develop. Definitely not a sure thing
  4. The Brewers weren't a team in 1966. How is that for nit-pickin' on a Monday morning?! I think the biggest chance for Stearns to have sustained success in Milwaukee is to be ahead of the curve on whatever the trend in MLB will be in 2020 and then again in 2025. If he can define the trend before everyone else, and then zig again while everyone else zags, he can do great things with a more limited budget. Easier said than done, but MLB is a copycat world. Be the cat everybody copies, not the trend follower.
  5. Give me Frazier & a top prospect pitcher from the Indians for Lucroy and I'm turning cartwheels
  6. Thanks for the info, much appreciated and what you are saying makes sense. I do like the thought of really stocking the system with very young prospects and going for the "high ceiling players". You get enough of those elite athletes and some will turn out well. Arcia/Phillips/Trent Clark haven't exactly been tearing the cover off the ball lately, and while of course it is just a small sample Corey Ray has just been OK to pretty good. Hopefully all 4 will be MLB stars, but the odds are that not all 4 of them will be stars, and it is certainly possible that none of them will. Taking the time to rebuild over a few extra years makes sense. Any insight on the Ray pick over a pitcher like Puk/Garrett/Groome?
  7. Lucroy/W. Smith trade value went down with that wild pitch/passed ball today
  8. Bregman is going to be a superstar. I would trade Lucroy & Braun for him. Seriously. And send $$$ to help pay for Braun
  9. Thank you. Really weird thread. I'm here for Baseball observations & insights The Pirates have struggled this year and have started to put things together and this could be a big distraction for them. They cannot afford to lose this player
  10. I was really hoping for more from Keon, but then again Jason Rogers hasn't exactly been lights out for Pittsburgh either. They both might be AAAA guys A lot of "if's" in this article but relates to the topic at hand http://www.outsidepitchmlb.com/what-if-keon-broxton-turns-it-on/49422
  11. I was thinking the same thing. Not sure how much playing time Middlebrooks will get prior to Hill being traded though, if Hill gets traded. Worth giving him a shot though. How has his fielding been in AAA?
  12. Agree the Red Sox are unlikely to deal Moncada. I would prefer Andrew Benintendi over Devers or Chavis. Maybe throw in Devers & Chavis as a roll of the dice but if I'm dealing Lucroy I'd want Espinoza plus either Moncada or Andrew Benintendi. Who cares if the Brewers have a lot of OF prospects? Benintendi likely has more potential than any of them. http://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.cgi?id=benint000and
  13. Yah nice batting practice swing...check out his in game swing. I like Lewis, but he has too busy of a swing for me and he comes of as a hacker. I honestly see a little bit of Carlos Gomez when I watch him. Not Gomez bad, but he swings hard every pitch. I think there are some legitimate concerns with him that he couldn't really prove wrong against weaker competition. I am betting that is what lead the Brewers to take Ray over him along with the fact they believe Ray can stick in CF. However no knock on Lewis as he is a pretty good prospect himself with a high ceiling. Thanks, I appreciate the added perspective.... I'll be rooting for Ray
  14. Is it possible the Brewers made a mistake not taking Kyle Lewis? His swing looks really really good! https://twitter.com/Mariners/status/741783958522724352
  15. I'm convinced they gave Peralta a longer leash in the hopes that he would start pitching up to his potential and become a trade chip
  16. So did the Brewers. Drafting Corey Ray in the 1st Round isn't at all about Santana particularly, but is telling in some regard. There are other obvious factors to drafting an OF #1: Brett Phillips is hitting only .249/.337 in AA Ryan Braun may be traded Michael Reed is only hitting .227 in AAA
  17. Personally I'd like to keep both Scooter & Villar
  18. I don't know if Stearns et al are following a trend (Kansas City Royals: high contact/plus speed/plus gloves) or trying to get away from the current model (more HR's, less contact hitters) in creating a new paradigm, but it is clear that he has a general plan in place to build a team with disciplined, high OBP hitters with above average athleticism and defensive versatility. Corey Ray fits that mold. I like the pick
  19. Like the pick of Corey Ray. Was hoping for Pint but he got picked right before the Brewers. I blame Craig Counsell for being a good manager and not having us lose more last year! Seriously though, I like Ray. Lots of athleticism seems to be a consistent Stearns M.O.
  20. Still hoping for Pint. I apologize for nothing else to add to the thread, other than: The Brewers have had a history in the last 10 years of developing hitters. They (generally) figure out ways to score enough runs. Looking at the current roster and Arcia/Phillips and others coming, that will likely continue. The Brewers need pitching! They need a lot of pitching. Roll the dice on Pint or Groome please
  21. Agreed on all that. I've been rooting for Pint all along and haven't wavered. There is risk with a HS kid who throws that hard but there is high upside. We need that high upside
  22. Trade made sense from the start and he has lived up to his potential. OBP skills, some pop, versatile, and 40+ stolen base speed. As I said when the trade went down lots of teams would love to have that on their team. No kidding huh?!
  23. Once the Brewers are on the verge of contending again, you can compare Stearns in that season to what Melvin did in 2008 or 2011
  24. Interesting but not quite as impressive as Donora, PA which gave the Baseball world both Stan Musial & Ken Griffey JR Still hoping for Pint or Groome. Don't get the fascination with Perez
  25. Throwing around the "Y" word?! C'mon now. Villar looks like Ozzie Smith compared to Yuni B. Villar, from all accounts, is much better at 2B, 3B, LF, RF than SS, but the fact that he is playing a fairly decent SS proves his value (to me at least) as a future "Supersub"/Utility player or a starting 2B/3B who can give you a game or 2 at SS when Arcia needs a day off. Yuni B's extremely below average level of range at SS/2B is a poor comparison. He was a replacement level defensive 3B and fairly competent at 1B (though he couldn't hit well enough to be a MLB 1B)
