  1. So frustrating. Maybe with an auto-DP guy like Ramirez at the plate. Overbay was not going to GIDP.
  2. He's probably right. But as the manager you've at least got to fake confidence. Should have went with Maldy.
  3. Ugh. Q: Thornburg was pulled after a 12 pitch inning because? A: While we would have him above only Wang in the pen, Ron thinks he's below only K-Rod.
  4. Not even really worth applying the label, but how many other teams wish their "fifth starter" pitched like this?
  5. So far so good. The Wooten / Figaro rotation worked out just fine. What happens if there are injuries, more bullpen innings, and the express from Nashville can't come quick enough? Who knows. But I think it can be managed. You field 25 on a given day, but 40+ are possible tomorrow. Fortunately we have a pretty solid 26-28, even if #25 hasn't had any value.
  6. With his recent struggles, that's got to feel great.
  7. If he was making good contact it would be less frustrating, but you can continue his groundouts are entirely soft pulls to short. Major struggles.
  8. Agree with the strategy; the schedule works out well enough to try to plan around Maldonado being out, Gomez may be able to get a game knocked off or take it once Schaefer returns. Maldy's fist gave him the other three
  9. The unpredictability of when the suspension would end up hitting if appealed may lean to serving it now. This is somewhat convenient with tomorrow still being a night game and then a day off. Otherwise you hope it hits around the May 8 or May 12 off days, but unless it straddles both it's no better than taking it now.
  10. Four really dumb things happened all at once to cause those two outs.
  11. Can't say I've ever seen a guy wind up at third after striking out.
  12. Was just going to ask, how many consecutive grounders has he pulled? Change the approach to expect a different result, Jean.
  13. Has anyone gotten the Amazon Fire TV? MLB's site says the MLB.tv for it is "Coming Later in 2014", is that outdated since the device was just released or is it still unavailable? If not, I wonder if the mirroring ability with a Kindle Fire tablet works well; my Fire stream seems to be the most reliable for MLB.tv.
  14. I believe the answer to the trivia question is on the mound today. That was not a fun game.
  15. Agree with this. Trying to move on doesn't involve going back and (symbolically) undoing the past. Re-opening that can, even with good intentions would be ill-advised. Stay in the present.
  16. Not necessarily. They could just send Burgos/Thornburg/whoever down after the game and bring up a more traditional RP like Olmsted or Hand. Yep, that's the best move. Probably won't be Hand yet since they'd have to make a 40-man move, but could be Sanchez.
  17. Don't think the entire bullpen is crap, we may not even need him. Probably only a couple moves to be made, and Sanchez and Olmstead are on the 40-man and Hand would be another option.
  18. To add to the list of headscratchers, DePaul was also offered free rent at the United Center and passed it up. Would make sense to build/find a place to play closer to their campus, but they're going to spend money to move even further away than the UC for an arena.
  19. If he spent an inning there in tee ball, he's more experienced than Gonzalez or Yuni was coming into the season.
  20. Agree completely. The door was wide open, seemed like Ash had said if he performed well he could get the job. I hoped he'd make it as much as anybody, but he was not good this spring. I'm fine with Maldonado playing first. Think he can hold his own and we need the extra pop he has over Gonzalez.
  21. Have been challenged to say the least during playoff games, and it's sad the issue still hasn't been addressed. I admire the creativity here...have always used Gatorade bottles in the car, but they fill up quick and the chances of splatter are high to use outside of an emergency.
  22. Well deserved. That team was looking done for when conference play rolled around, and Dekker's the only one with legit talent. Winning 12 games in the best conference in the country is impressive. Most can't.
  23. Big East name, MSG tournament venue, get to keep their NCAA tournament revenue shares, leave right away, and a $10M lump sum in cash. Pretty nice deal for those schools, on top of at least doubling their television revenue with Fox and avoiding a conference with the likes of UCF, SMU, and Tulane.
