  1. This looks like the Axford trade last year. I think we paid like $50 for him, so hopefully the same deal here. Anything more would be an overpay. He's pitched 39 innings in the last five seasons... And optioned Perdomo today despite a good rehab assignment, because presumably there isn't a place for him in our bullpen.
  2. Missed, as in they would have been a contributor based on how they performed not long after being traded: Feyereisen, Rasmussen, Cooper, Davis, Haniger, Odorizza, Cain, Brantley, Cruz. Missed, as in the trade wasn't worth it based on both how they performed and what we got in return: Cooper, Haniger. Perhaps Cruz, depending on the whole waivers/could have had him back if we wanted thing.
  3. Backup is where it starts. Feliciano or Reetz will only be catching once or twice a week, with Caratini (presumably) or another veteran as the primary. One or two of the AAAA type players will be added to AAA in case Caratini is injured, and would get at least half the starts if the younger player hasn't proved solid.
  4. I don't hate giving up Mathias, who needs the opportunity to get playing time with an organization that can afford to give it to him, or even Kelly, who is going to have to go on the 40 but is still a couple years out. Just would have targeted a reliever who isn't 36 years old with two TJs (even despite the "younger arm") and who has demonstrated a better track record of success rather than just now having a career year,
  5. Can't see promoting the entire AA outfield and then adding another outfielder today unless something is going to give. If they intend on Ruiz playing second, I suppose that adds Turang to the mix of possible trade candidates. I don't think Narvaez goes. Can't see relying on Caratini and postseason ineligible/barely plays Severino. Pretty much means Feliciano, Jackson (who hasn't even been playing at AAA), or Reetz would need to come up within a few weeks to be ready for a playoff role. Nevertheless, this ridiculous carrying three catchers thing needs to be resolved. I expect a bat, and wouldn't be surprised to see a bullpen arm. Even if you were pessimistic on Hader, today's move made the bullpen worse. I only ask for no "make a trade for the sake of making a trade" moves, like Norris last year and Schoop in 2018.
  6. Ruiz has some eye-popping MiLB numbers. Wonder if the plan is to give him Davis' roster spot and be willing to be patient with his development during a pennant race, or stash him in AAA? Either way, you have to believe he will either be flipped or one or more of our three outfield prospects who were supposedly all reporting to Nashville tomorrow for their AAA debuts are instead going to be part of another deal. Gasser's another low to mid 90's guy, in his first full season of professional ball. Doesn't blow me away, but our pitching prospects are very, very weak. He's immediately among our top five, perhaps top three. Hader's struggles over the past month made me believe Devin was set to be our closer. Still, even the most pessimistic on Hader have to believe this is a big hit to the pen overall. Hope to see some more bullpen shake-up, and hopefully a reliable addition or two - Rogers hasn't been great despite racking up the saves, and Lamet is at best a Generic Bullpen Guy and at worst a DFA waiting to happen.
  7. Agree that I like him better than Laureano, for platoon potential and ceiling if anything. Though I'm not totally sold on a contending team taking a flier and "hope to fix" player over going in on a sure upgrade or standing pat.
  8. Yes. Stearns has had a couple of trades that seem like he's making a trade for the sake of making a trade. Norris last year being the first that comes to mind. Pass on those.
  9. Enough Badger Mutual Insurance Runs to sit Hader down. And then some, TT!
  10. Not many can hammer breaking balls like Renfroe.
  11. Frelick with the winner on his 3rd hit and 5th reach of the game. Send the man to Nashville already!
  12. Some iffy location but job done. Cool of our fans to take over Fenway tonight.
  13. Good fight from TT to get that Badger Mutual Insurance Run.
  14. Bring up the rooks for a new look up the middle: Turang at second, Frelick in center, Reetz behind the dish.
  15. Nice pressure pitching from Devin. Tavern of the game Kaukauna...does the entire town still stink from cheese making? Used to have to hold your breath to drive through it.
  16. A haul of mid-level pitching prospects. Don't think we even have that much pitching talent left in the system to match that offer if we wanted to.
  17. I enjoyed actually listening to what the sideline reporter had to say instead of counting how many times "he said" is uttered in one 30 second hit.
  18. Turning around a slow change at 111 is pretty impressive.
  19. Better inning for Hader. Getting that ERA into Suter territory. ?
  20. There's a time and a place for pitchers duels, but 6-6 after 5 is so much more entertaining than 0-0.
  21. Gott seems unlikely to last the returning players + any trade deadline acquisitions.
  22. Another ball that didn't reach the outfield, another Davis reach.
