Turang and Frelick are the primary 2B and CF. Ruiz is probably on the roster as the 4th outfielder/LF when Yelich DHs. Mitchell is playing really well; he either cracks the roster as last bench bat or starts in AAA. Weimer starts in AAA and healthy, hopefully rakes his way up. Curveball: At least one of these guys gets traded.

If they're not going to play Davis, might as well bring up Frelick or Turang. Frelick needs to wait a few days to preserve rookie eligibility next season though, cause I'm calling it that he's winning 2023 NL ROY. -
Vinny Rottino. Seems a bit timid getting used to the role, but much preferred to Dillard.

Hader did an interview with SD reporters last week where he said he was tipping pitches and was able to fix that. Even so, his stuff is normally so tough that the 50/50 on whether the fastball or the slider was coming wouldn't have been enough for MN and SF to tee off the way they did. Looks like he only gave up a single last night, but walked three and hit a batter. When he was struggling in July for us, the fastball was sitting lower half rather than the very top and slider was middle rather than bottom/below the zone. Seems he just isn't right at the moment.

If the very high OBP out of the 9 hole isn't enough to play Davis, then perhaps Turang is worth adding since he can play CF. Otherwise, I'd wait for opening day. I think expecting any offense from Turang immediately is a mistake. He's taken a little while to get going at almost every level, which is unsurprising as he's been very young for every level. If he's expected to fill an infield utility role, I'm also wary. Sure, he's an elite defender, but he hasn't played any 3B in the minors, and hasn't played 2B since high-A ball three years ago. 2B might be his position for next year, but he's going to get innings all spring to be ready for it.

I miss the August waiver trades. Would be nice to get a few low-level fliers for Wong, Narvaez, Boxberger, McCutchen, maybe even try to flip Bush and Rogers. Another change that hurts small market teams.

Curious since we don't need a 5th/6th starter with the schedule and Alexander has been worse out of the pen. Perhaps a placeholder and we see Cousins Tuesday or later in the week.
