  1. Sounds like Molitor has finally been selected as the new Twins manager. Guess I'm a Twins fan now too.
  2. So what's the 2019 lineup if everything goes right? C - ? 1B - Braun 2B - Gennett SS - Arcia 3B - Gatewood LF - Harrison CF - Taylor RF - Coulter SP - Medeiros
  3. Ya no kidding. I want nothing to do with Reynolds and his LHP splits: 2014 - .173 / .277 /.296 /.573 / 113 PA / 3 HR 2013 - .225 / .319 /.406 /.725 / 182 PA / 8 HR He cemented his get out of town card when he forgot how many outs there were in a pennant race. Sorry, I just don't want him back. Ok, good point... I hope that they don't just resign themselves to whatever internal options are available though. If they think Jason Rogers can handle it, then perfect, but surely there are some cheap LHP mashers on the FA market? Maybe somebody who can play 1B/OF, like a poor man's Jonny Gomes? Until Rogers has more of a track record, relying on him to be the everyday 1B against LHP seems like yet another lazy solution, and Overbay/Reynolds/Betancourt all over again. The 'stache: I think you're being too pessimistic. Any way you slice it (assuming they go with a straight platoon), Lind + somebody competent against LHP projects to have as good of production as any other viable 1B target, free agent or otherwise. And Lind is coming to us very cheaply. Even his defense is not that bad, if you look at his career numbers at 1B: only -4.0 UZR/150. He played a lot in the OF, where his career numbers are much worse, which brought down his dWAR totals.
  4. I know what you mean about it feeling like a band-aid, but who else were they going to get? Adam LaRoche was the best available free agent, but he can barely hit LHP either and is going to be overpriced (plus, older than Lind). In theory, going with Lind + Rodgers/Reynolds/whoever will probably give us better production than LaRoche, plus it will leave us with enough extra money leftover to sign somebody like Bonifacio who can move into a supersub role and spot Scooter and A-Ram. I think you could easily get Lind + Reynolds + Bonifacio for the price of LaRoche.
  5. They just need to be smart and platoon him, even if it's with a bum like Reynolds. 2010-2014, 1B vs. RHP 8) Albert Pujols - .367 wOBA 9) Adam Lind - .366 wOBA 10) Adam LaRoche - .355 wOBA 2010-2014, 1B v. LHP 20) Mark Reynolds - .331 wOBA ... 26) Adam LaRoche - .300 wOBA
  6. Fantastic! I was hoping for Adam Lind back at the start of 2014. Is a Mark Reynolds re-signing imminent? Lind kind of needs a platoon partner, but against RHP he's fantastic for the price.
  7. So he is he the new scouting director, replacing Seid, or is "vice president of amateur scouting" something different?
  8. I find the revisionist history that Yost is/was a great manager pretty amusing, to be honest. Would be interesting to roll back the tapes of what people were saying at the time.
  9. I don't necessarily disagree, but Dayton Moore is arguably the worst GM in the business. KC didn't pull the wool over anybody eye's with the Greinke trade. They had many years of top draft picks that gave them a supposedly legendary farm system, which has barely panned out and their payoff is getting hot at the right moment and waltzing into the WS with a team that really isn't super impressive. The 2011 Brewers were better than the 2014 Royals.
  10. Would you rather have Gomez/Segura or Cain/Escobar, because the former pair likely wouldn't have emerged if the latter had remained. I don't think that choice is even close.
  11. I'd say that if you go by advanced metrics it would be somewhat reasonable, but in the real world I don't think that would ever ever ever happen.
  12. -Pick up Gallardo's option and trade him for a good low-minors prospect and a bench INF/OF. I don't think he's better than Nelson, Peralta, or Fiers, to be honest -Move Ryan Braun to 1B and let Parra be the everyday starter in RF. Free agent market at 1B is really poor. -Sign Chase Headley to something like 3/$30M. He seems undervalued and should be Melvin's #1 priority this offseason. -Sign a utility guy who can spot Scooter against LHP. Bonifacio would be perfect. -Sign a cheap bench OF who is not a complete waste of space, like Nyjer Morgan (or Aoki?) C - Lucroy 1B - Braun 2B - Gennett/Bonifacio SS - Segura/Bonifacio 3B - Headley LF - Davis CF - Gomez RF - Parra C - Maldonado IF/OF - Bonifacio IF - Unknown (Gallardo trade) OF - Morgan or Aoki OF - Clark SP - Garza SP - Lohse SP - Peralta SP - Nelson SP - Fiers RP - Who cares they're already spending $9M on stupid Jonathan Broxton so going to need to go in-house for the rest.
  13. He's been top-5 in MLB at shortstop RngR almost every season of his career. Was #2 last season behind Simmons. Smart positioning can be as good as freakish athleticism.
  14. Hardy is perhaps the best defensive shortstop in baseball. He is very underrated because he has amazing fundamentals as opposed to making flashy plays. Andrelton Simmons, and I don't even think it's close. Hardy is very good, but he's not in Simmon's category. This season, Simmons was at +22.1 UZR, Hardy was at +20.4 UZR, the difference being Hardy has been an elite 10+ UZR defender for almost a decade at this point. Like I said, he's not as flashy as someone like Simmons because Hardy makes everything look easy, but he's definitely in the same category at the very least.
  15. Hardy is perhaps the best defensive shortstop in baseball. He is very underrated because he has amazing fundamentals as opposed to making flashy plays.
  16. He seems to be well liked by the players from what I've observed. Yup, that is the perefect reason to keep someone, the players like him... I would have to think that is why RRR was able to keep his job as well. Seems like a pretty good reason to keep a 3B coach, whose impact on the team's winning percentage must be close to zero. If Sedar has any positive impact on team morale (and he seems very popular with the players), it's more than worth the 1-2 times per season that he gives a bad run signal.
  17. Alternatively 2012: 0.9 fWAR 2013: -0.4 fWAR 2014: 1.2 fWAR And for this season that was in only 286 PA, in which he outhit Braun and everybody on the team other than Gomez and Lucroy. Rickie's never had substantial platoon splits so I don't know why the fact that he faced mostly LHP matters that much. He had a nice little rebound campaign but the Brewers management simply did not want to play him all year.
  18. Speculating about specific players this early is a fool's errand, but I will say that getting Mike Cameron's kid would be awesome.
  19. The front office (and yes, the fans) treated him pretty poorly this season, in my personal opinion, so I'm not surprised he went out with a bit of a whimper. And at the end of the year the only Brewers hitters who performed better this season were Gomez and Lucroy, imagine that. Gennett is serviceable and more importantly cheap, so I don't think Rickie will be back, but I could see him having a bit of a resurgence with a new team kind of like Hardy did. Farewell Rickie. We'll always have 2009-10 when you looked like one of the best players in baseball.
  20. Dear Postseason: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGes7FDmHAM
  21. Jozzen Cuesta!
  22. We have a somewhat decent wave of prospects in the low minors already. The front office just needs to have the faith/confidence to completely empty the major league cabinet (maybe everybody but Braun so you still have the face of the franchise in the down years) and build toward 4-5 years from now. Flip some players for top prospects in the low minors, have a few (truly) losing seasons and bring in some elite draft picks, and when that class of prospects starts to arrive, then you spend on free agents to shore things up and fill holes. The Cubs are in the middle of something similar and it's working. They're probably not going to do that though, they're going to keep going halfway to try and field a competitive team and we'll be stuck with boring 75-80 win teams that never amount to much of anything for the foreseeable future. Melvin has made some fantastic movies and I don't think he's a bad GM, but I'm not sure he's the right GM for the Brewers. His strong suit is in finding talent off the scrapheap to patch holes, but I don't think he has the longterm vision that a small market team like the Brewers need.
  23. Thanks, JoBro!
  24. So our 2015 closer is a guy with a >4.00 xFIP since 2010? That's going to turn out great.
