  1. If true, it's going to be simply amazing that the Angels will have arguably the three most talented baseball players in the world, and yet from my perspective will still have a mediocre team barring some significant trades.
  2. In 3852 career innings at 1B, Cron has a -0.7 UZR/150 and average-ish DRS numbers. Not sure where the notion that he is a horrible defender comes from?? That would be the best defensive 1B we've had in years. Last season Minnesota had him start 113 games and only 3 at DH.
  3. Bring in Ryu and re-sign Thames. First team in MLB history with three former KBO MVPs!!!
  4. How many "back end" starters has Stearns picked up now that have all turned out to be extremely successful (and extremely good value) for us? Guerra, Davies, Anderson, Chacin (for one season), Miley, Gio, Lyles. Has he whiffed on a single one yet? He also did very well in picking out Houser and Peralta. Maybe he knows what he's doing. In contrast, Melvin used to hand out the kind of mid-tier free agent SP we can realistically afford and they were flops (Suppan, Lohse, Garza, etc.)
  5. Oh Boy I couldn't finish the video with the terrible batters. Early in it he definitely got away with some meatball/mistakes. Any time you make a highlight reel of a pitcher's best strikeouts, the hitters are going to look bad. "Meatballs" where?
  6. Some people will complain about any signing unless it is Cole or Strasburg. This dude won the KBO Cy Young the last two seasons and the KBO MVP last season, let's get excited!
  7. [sarcasm]Really? I would argue we need 1 3 4 and 5. One down three to go![/sarcasm]
  8. Lord help me for all the Brewers fans on Twitter whose analytic mindset is "What, a guy that I haven't heard of? Let me explain to you why this is therefore a bad deal"
  9. Thames + Cron, baby!
  10. I would love Kole Calhoun to pair with Gamel as fourth and fifth outfielders off the bench and to give Braun days off (Calhoun's complements Braun's platoon splits in the respect). Don't like him as a regular starter. How much will he cost?
  11. Sadly it seems fake because the same proposal was tweeted out earlier by what I think (?) is a parody account that pretends to be run by a dog, though this other guy denies that that is his source. But what are the odds?
  12. As a Brewers fan I would love for the Reds to make that trade. Suddenly that pitching staff is not so intimidating when headed by the wildly inconsistent and unreliable Sonny Gray and Trevor Bauer.
  13. Nimmo would become one of my top targets if he's actually available, and if Braun can play 1B. I wouldn't be surprised if Stearns is targeting OF given that we will have a massive hole there after 2020 after trading Grisham, and Stearns is a long-term thinker.
  14. Obviously. No reason for them to ever move him to an easier defensive position. We've already established that he, a major league 2B, has no throwing arm.
  15. I think you could probably get around this pretty easily, just negotiate in the trade that the Yankees will pay X dollars, say half of the 2021 salary if it vests which would leave us on the hook for $8.5M. Which we'd want to do anyway if he was lights out, we wouldn't want to manipulate his time to get out of it. That would work, but if the entire point for the Yankees is to get rid of his salary that might substantially impact the other player we get in return.
  16. My initial thought was that the Brewers should have been in on a Cozart rebound, but my goodness was he bad last season. Only 107 PA but a -14 wRC+ (negative!). Even with elite defense he was on pace for -4.0 fWAR over a full season.
  17. Here's a question: if Knebel return to form, does he slot in as the "closer" and Hader moves back to a roving fireman role?
  18. Great move for the Phillies. I bet Stearns would have matched that if we didn't have Urias/Arcia already.
  19. I was initially on board with this because I don't think Happ was actually that bad last year once you factor in Yankee Stadium. A 107 ERA- and 112 FIP- are bad but not disastrous, and the premise is that we would be paying $17 million for both a back-end starter and a major league piece (probably at 1B or 3B). But on further reflection I don't see how you can do a deal when it basically requires you to manipulate Happ's playing time to avoid his vesting option. What if he is lights out for us, we nonetheless manipulate his playing time, he files a grievance and wins? No prospect that the Yankees would offer us is worth a potential $34 million commitment.
  20. No disagreement from me if people want to speculate that Hiura would not make a good 3B, but that is not the tenor of some of the posts in this thread. If the front office is thinking of signing Didi it means they are going to do something none of us were expecting, and personally I don't think their first choice would be to move Hiura all the way down the defensive spectrum to 1B so soon. That's all.
  21. Urias is a plus defender at 2B, Hiura was a defensive liability there in his first season. For the record, I do not even want them to move Hiura, but if they are actually going to sign Gregorious the logical conclusion is that they are least considering moving Hiura to 3B.
  22. Well! Case closed on my extremely radical position of "none of us should pretend to be smart enough to know whether the front office thinks Hiura could move to 3B or not" I really don’t want to be in the middle of this one, but I’ll point out it has been documented Hiura maxed out throwing 77 mph across the diamond at PG events in high school (obviously prior to his elbow injury) which was considered well below average for an infielder heading to play D-1 college baseball. It is my understanding anything in the low-to-mid 80’s for a professional 3B is considered below average to fringe average. I believe an infielder playing on the left side of the diamond is expected to be able to make throws greater than 85 mph. I would be surprised if Keston had the ability to throw near that velocity. The Brewers front office has data on his actual arm strength in 2019/2020. Actually I think MLB has this data through Statcast but doesn't publish it. Which is a long way of saying that the front office knows whether they think Hiura could move to 3B or not. We on Brewerfan.net do not, plain and simple. Acting like it is outlandish to think that they might possible try to move Hiura to 3B (a fairly common move in MLB) is itself outlandish.
  23. Yankees are reportedly trying to unload J.A. Happ, who is owed $17 million this season with a vesting option for 2021 if he makes 27+ starts (or 165+ IP), in part to help them fit Cole in their payroll. I'm skeptical that Andujar is the answer at 3B because his defense was so bad there, but I wouldn't be totally opposed to having Happ on a one-year deal and getting a premium prospect in return.
