  1. League average player? His floor is Moustakas and his ceiling is 5+ WAR.
  2. Flippin' Martin Perez just got a $6 million guarantee. Who is criticizing this Lindblom deal? WHO?!
  3. He's mentioned as being another candidate for a Cosart-type trade where the Mariners attach a prospect to Seager to get his contract off their hands. That would be an interesting idea. I'd even settle for just an upside reliever like RHP Zac Grotz. All the better if Seattle actually gives us a quality prospect. I think outside of Seattle, Seager could pop 30 HR with elite defense.
  4. The Mariners are now actively shopping Kyle Seager, and he may be willing to modify his contract (which converts a team option into a player option if traded) in order to play for a contender. He'd be another one of my top targets. Very underrated player in my opinion.
  5. In 339 PA at AAA last season, 21-22 year old Luis Urias hit .315/.398/.600/.998 with 19 HR and 7 SB, and held his own in the majors in a smaller sample size. He should have tried a little harder to avoid tanking his prospect value I guess
  6. With deferred money I think Braun is only making $13 million and Cain is only making $15 million this year.
  7. Fair enough, though I think the only instance of someone doing that was when the website said that the only way we could land Gavin Lux and Dustin May is if we threw in Christian Yelich
  8. Ok, but it's not a "perfect valuation tool" in the same way that HighHeat19 was not a "perfect inside source." Anyway nobody is stopping anyone else from posting them, but I also don't think that should stop the rest of his from expressing our opinion of trade proposals (or rather critiques of trade proposals) based on those numbers. I think they can be interesting to look at, but less interesting when the implication is "that is not a realistic trade proposal, based on these values"
  9. Correct.
  10. Doesn't help that they arbitrarily took about $50 million off Urias's "value" even though as a prospect he should be ranked near or above May
  11. Andujar brings similar defense to 3B as Ryan Braun, has a career 4.1 BB%, and is returning from a major injury. He's an intriguing player but not in a Hader trade.
  12. Would you have traded Hiura for Edwin Diaz last year? That's essentially what you're asking for with Lux or Adell for Hader. Diaz 2016-18 | 191 IP | 64 ERA-/60 FIP- | 5.9 rWAR/6.3 fWAR Hader 2017-19 | 204 IP | 57 ERA-/63 FIP- | 7.2 rWAR/5.9 fWAR I personally wouldn't have traded Hiura for Diaz & I don't believe either LA club would trade Lux or Adell for Hader because 6 years of an elite position player prospect is more valuable than 4 years of a reliever, even thee very best one in the game. I would never personally trade for a RP, but that doesn't mean MLB teams won't. It was a complicated trade but factoring how much under water that Cano contract is, the Mets gave up way more than that to get Diaz.
  13. They are reportedly planning to use him in the rotation, but I could easily see them signing a FA (Bumgarner? Ryu?) and then dealing from their pitching surplus if they really want Hader. He was untouchable prior to his massive injuries across 2017-18, but he now only has 4 years of team control left and was very good in relief last year but not without yellow flags (2.49 ERA, 4.28 xFIP). Given the risks involved I think it's a fair return.
  14. we just don't know. He has faced lesser competition in Korea, so its hard to compare. He wasn't very good in MLB, went to Korea and became their MVP. I think its worth the risk, but we don't know if he will succeed here or not. He wasn't even actually that bad in the majors, to be fair. Huge caveat that he was mostly working in relief, but in 147.0 IP he has a 4.10 ERA, 4.27 FIP, 4.48 xFIP, 8.7 K/9, 3.7 BB/9. Even factoring in the transition to starting, that's the profile of a pitcher who is a few changes away (primarily cutting down on walks) from being a #2/3 starter, and at least in the KBO he fixed the walk problem (1.3 BB/9 last season).
  15. I suspect you are both undervaluing four years of Hader and overvaluing the players listed given their recent histories versus remaining upside.
  16. Please explain. Honestly I would ask for more. These are deals that I would accept as fair given the actual (non-sabermetric) value of elite closers.
  17. Propose your own trade(s) then. Mets SP Noah Syndergaard OF Brandon Nimmo 3B Brett Baty (min) Yankees SP Luis Severino C Anthony Seigler (min) Dodgers SP Julio Urias SP Dustin May
  18. Y'all want to trade Josh Hader for a marginal non-prospect who had a hot month or two once (JD Davis)? The Mets PR team has somehow captured Brewerfan.net
  19. That trade value calculator is nonsense, but that does sound like a fair trade to me.
  20. I don't think two years of Syndergaard is tenough for Hader. Dominic Smith is an absolute non-entity in this caliber of trade, while I wouldn't mind having him he's not a top prospect anymore. Four years of the best RP in baseball?
  21. Who wouldn't want Lowrie? Yeah he's old but he wasn't bad last year just injured, and before that he was elite. I hope the Brewers are in on this. If we landed Smith at 1B and Lowrie at 3B I think we would need a strong backup like Wilmer Flores though. Lots of risk in those two and no real internal replacements.
  22. And it's signings like this that make me embarrassed for factions of our fan base. LOOK AROUND! Roark got 12 mil AAV. Lyles got 8 mil AAV. Gausman got 9-10. Treinen got 10 coming off an awful year. Would any of those guys make you feel warm and fuzzy? Are any of those sure things? It's like a huge number of people have never had to be strategic about anything in their lives. MKE can't afford to be strong everywhere and pitching is often highly inflated in cost. MKE can not afford top end ace pitchers. Can not. I've pointed to the .9 to 1.1 run diff for well over a year now and that there is an easy way to achieve it if you can simply find 1 starting pitcher solidly sub 4 (3.5 range) and then keep the rest under 4.2. Nothing world beating. If your 5 starters can sit at a 4 ERA the pen can drop you dramatically under 4. That's a great staff. There are 30 teams in this league. 6... SIX... were sub 4 era. What's the cheapest way to do that? Guys like this! Guys like Miley, Gio, Chacin, Anderson, Davies and trading next to nothing for a nobody like Lyles. How many times have they pulled serviceable out of thin air. This team was 1 game from the WS one season ago. ONE. In the last 2 years they were in the playoffs twice and NLCS 1 time. Who was on their staff? Strasburg Cole Verlander Kershaw and Darvish right? RIGHT? 3 mil a year. 6 mil if he pitches as a starter. Cheaper than all the other nobodies we've seen sign deals. Low risk, upside, and a guy who can be a 3mil pen piece if it doesn't pan out. Guy started 30 games last year and was at 6.5 IP per start. This is a brilliant signing. It might not work out, but the idea is brilliant. Yet, factions of this fan base complain. There is nothing to complain about with this signing. Welcome the KBO Cy Young to the roster and hope DS did it again. 100% agreed TJseven7. And the reaction from the fan base is even weirder because Stearns has struck gold on like ten similar signings. He legitimately must have the best track record in all of MLB at spotting undervalued pitching.
  23. In general, yes, however there is a middle ground. I’m all for this signing, but what about more solidified #2/#3 pitchers, which should give a little more certainty in our rotation? Obviously the Brewers aren’t going to spend the $25 million or more for one pitcher, but why not a $10-$15 million per year pitcher? Up to this point the acquisitions that have been made have been in the $1-$3million per year range. Outside of Woodruff we have a lot of uncertainty, similar to our 2019 staff. Now, there’s a lot of time to get these types of players, but the further we go along, the more concerned I’ll be that we’ll go the inexpensive, unproven route for most of the staff again. $10-15 million these days gets you a pitchers worse than Lindblom, like Michael Wacha or Kevin Gausman. I'm guessing this is basically a 3/$18 million deal if Lindblom remains a starter full time.
  24. I don't get why any Brewers fan would want them to sign one of these contracts. It would likely ruin the franchise for the latter half of the deal, and it would actually make the team worse for 2020 by tying all of our resources up in one player while other holes remain. Aren't we supposed to be paying Prince Fielder like $30 million this year still?
  25. Pretty nice week for Scott Boras. Commissions on almost $1 billion in contracts.
