  1. Unbelievable that anyone could possibly complain about having a guy with Morrison's track record as pure minor league depth. If Smoak and/or Braun gets injured at some point during the season, who do you want filling his spot on the roster and getting starts at 1B, David Freitas??
  2. Honestly they should just give Donaldson five years and get a deal done. I think it's reasonable to expect him to be an asset for at least three years, and that is our window before Yelich leaves. I'm perfectly fine writing off the first two post-Yelich seasons (2023-2024) as rebuilding years.
  3. 1. Corbin Burnes 2. Drew Rasmussen 3. Brandon Woodruff 4. Freddy Peralta
  4. Smoak also has much higher upside, as witnesses by his 2017 season and former pedigree. As I recall a lot of advanced metrics and batted ball data from Smoak's 2019 suggests that he was unlucky last year and 2017 may not have been a fluke. I imagine Stearns and his team are confident they bought low on Smoak, whereas with Thames what you see is pretty much what you get (a streaky guy who can kill RHP but needs to be platooned - also, it should be added, a great player to root for as a fan!)
  5. Cannot believe he's still only 29! (Very glad he's not going to be our starting 3B...)
  6. $875,000 signing bonus, $2.75 million for all 3 years. $125,000 bonus for 90, 100, 110 and 120 innings pitched. $250,000 bonus for 130, 140, 150 and 160 innings pitched and $500,000 for 170, 180 and 190 innings pitched. Cool, thanks!
  7. I think they just put the average salary in there until they get more details. Maybe that is the actual number though it would seem like a very unusual figure.
  8. Have any more details leaked about this contract, such as how much Lindblom will make in 2020?
  9. In lieu of a bigger free agent starter, I would sign both Dellin Bettances and Colin McHugh.
  10. I think everybody would love to have Andujar, but I don't love him in a Hader trade because it's very unclear (probably unlikely at that point) that he can stick at 3B, and because his one solid offensive season is diminished a bit by his poor plate discipline (4.1 BB%). He'd still be a great prospect to have though, obviously.
  11. Love the White Sox roster right now on paper. I think they could easily win a World Series within the span of this Keuchel contract (not because of Keuchel, but he's a decent innings eater to stabilize a very young and high-upside rotation). C - Yasmani Grandal 1B - Jose Abreu 2B - Nick Madrigal SS - Tim Anderson 3B - Yoan Moncada LF - Eloy Jimenez CF - Luis Robert RF - Nomar Mazara DH - Andrew Vaughn SP - Lucas Giolito SP - Carlos Rodon SP - Dylan Cease SP - Michael Kopech SP - Dallas Keuchel

  13. He plays solid D wherever he’s moved so there’s no reason to think he would do the same at 3B. Maybe, though they'd have to be pretty sure given what he will cost in a trade. Merrifield also has a so-so arm and when I merely hinted at the possibility that the Brewers front office might have considered a hypothetical attempt at moving Hiura from 2B to 3B it was the most controversial thing I have ever posted on here

  15. Merrifield has barely played 3B in his career. I'm not sure why we would be targeting him at this point?

  17. In the real world there is no way that the Royals consider Perez to have negative value. I get the projections-based argument that he is overpaid, but this seems like a good illustration of why those projected WAR calculations often do not jibe with reality.

  19. How could you possibly not see any upside? Look what Sogard did for us in 2017 and for the Blue Jays/Rays in 2019. He's been a uniquely boom or bust player the last few years. If he struggles like he did in 2018 then he will likely be released before the All Star break, but suggesting that you can predict how he's going to perform or that there is no upside to the deal is not realistic. (And $4.5 million is not remotely "expensive" in the context of modern MLB salaries.)

  21. Hey, I didn't want to be the one to say it!

  23. Clevinger would be my #1 target in a trade if we are really to give up someone like Hiura or Hader. Obviously Clevinger is going to be the opposite of cheap, but I think he's still tradeable and won't be once he turns into a top-5 pitcher next year.
  24. Use this thread to discuss general optimism about the machinations of David Stearns. How about if the current roster clicks and each player merely repeats their best campaign from the last three years (or Steamer projected campaign)? C Omar Narvaez - .278/.353/.460/.813, .345 wOBA, 119 wRC+ 1B Justin Smoak - .270/.355/.529/.884, .371 wOBA, 133 wRC+ 2B Keston Hiura - .303/.368/.570/.938, .388 wOBA, 139 wRC+ SS Luis Urias - .251/.333/.403/.736, .316 wOBA, 92 wRC+ 3B TBD!
