  1. Nope...Brewers couldn't have met or exceeded this?? They probably very wisely did not want to.
  2. Kluber is too big of a gamble for me. He's at the age where most pitchers start to fall off a cliff, and last year he was either injured or bad.
  3. If Stearns thought it was worth the price he would have re-signed Moustakas (cheaper than Seager's contract), and kept the prospects it will cost to get Seager. Well the issue with Moose is that its' a much longer contract (and he is significantly worse than Seager...)
  4. If it is literally just buying a prospect by taking on a useless player (Familia) then no, because we have limited payroll space and should be competing in 2020-2021 rather than when the next wave of prospects is ready. If it is paying slightly more than market value in order to get a player better than those available in free agency (Seager, Lowrie, possibly Belt) then absolutely.
  5. There absolutely is not a "hefty sample" saying he's not a great fielder. As I mentioned his UZR numbers are weighted down almost entirely by his brief time in CF (a brief sample of being terrible really can skew the numbers that much), and even if you prefer DRS his career numbers are weighted down by a single metric from a single season. In 2015, the DRS range metric (rPM) somehow concluded that he was worth -15 runs. (In a season when UZR thought that his range was poor but overall his defense was roughly average, -0.5 UZR/150) That single metric/season accounts for three quarters of his career net -20 DRS in RF. Not only do I think it's good practice to throw out extreme outliers like that, but it is why I prefer UZR/150 because a rate stat over an extended sample size gives you a better idea of how good a fielder really is, in my opinion.
  6. If Hader is traded to the Mets, I would insist on Nimmo being a part of that deal. He has elite OBP skills. Sign Castellanos to play 1B and rotate Braun from LF to 1B depending on matchups. Heck, who cares about defense, just play Castellanos back at 3B! CF Cain RF Nimmo LF Yelich 3B Castellanos 2B Hiura 1B Braun SS Urias C Narvaez
  7. Garcia is at worst an average defender in RF. His overall numbers are skewed because he has been very bad when asked to play CF. In 4960 career innings in RF, he has a -1.0 UZR/150, and that is only negative because he put up bad numbers at the very start of his career (when he was very young). In recent years he has been firmly above average overall (+6.3 UZR/150 last season). There is no reason for Garcia to ever play CF for us, as he is behind Cain, Yelich, Gamel, and (if there's an extended injury) Taylor in the CF depth chart. Also, in a meaningless sample size (113 innings), Garcia has a career +13.2 UZR/150 in LF. So, no, the numbers do not say he plays mediocre defense at the corners. Domingo Santanta is legitimately terrible and should be a DH, which is weird because I remember when we first trade for him there was still a remote chance that he could play CF. It's like he totally gave up on the defensive side of the game.
  8. Trade Hader + Arcia... somebody like Dustin May from the Dodgers comes to mind as a potential ace in return for Hader.... The key there though is that May is a potential ace. You are paying a lot for a guy who could conceivably turn into an ace down the line, but who is ranked so highly as a prospect more because he has a decent chance of being at solid #2/3. You are making the 2020 team worse to gamble on a player's upside, even though May is more likely than not to never become a true ace, and is that what people actually want? If it is likely that May is going to be the type of ace pitcher people want in 2020 or 2021, then the Dodgers are not going to trade him, plain and simple.
  9. Crazy how much discussion there has been about how the Brewers need to add an ace starting pitcher, and yet not a single post that I've seen explaining how we could realistically do that. I don't know if Stearns expects Anderson to pitch like Lyles down the stretch last season, but I think he has correctly evaluated that a deep rotation of average to above average starters who can keep you in the game and hand it over to a plus bullpen is an effective way for us to build a playoff caliber team.
  10. I wouldn't dismiss Belt so easily. He had a very long stretch of being much better than any other 1B options we are likely to find this offseason, so if the front office thinks that his subpar 2019 was a fluke then he could be a good add. Obviously San Francisco would need to offset his salary somehow.
  11. Some players have a skill set that just supports a high BABIP. Over 3027 PA in his career, Garcia has a .332 BABIP, possibly because he is weirdly fast for his physique. Having had him in fantasy too, one thing about Garcia is that he can go on crazy hot streaks.
  12. I played with this for a good 15 minutes. That was fun. I've been running one with Johnny Estrada for the last 15 minutes and it still hasn't finished yet.
  13. Tbf, Lorenzo Cain typically plays/sprints while nursing a broken leg like Greg Jennings.
  14. Garcia was a beast back in 2017: .330/.380/.506/.886. Still only 28. His defense in RF is average to above average. I like the add if true, though is Braun the everyday 1B or do we have a very fancy fourth outfielder tandem?
  15. Can you just admit that you know absolutely nothing about Lindblom, who has not even pitched in the States in several years? Basically all of our options besides Woodruff have at a minimum been right around league average pitchers if you actually look at their numbers and have any familiarity with MLB. Also, as a starting pitcher from 2017-2019, Faria has 135.0 IP, 4.27 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 4.63 FIP pitching in the AL East.
  16. I don't know if we have the money to make all three of those moves, but that is World Series caliber lineup/roster, wow. (Either Smith shows up and hits, or Braun just becomes the regular 1B)
  17. I could see the Brewers being in on Donaldson, at least initially, but not Rendon. It seems like Stearns is not afraid of big free agent deals but he prioritizes value over everything else (hence the big Lorenzo Cain signing is because teams were undervaluing him). Donaldson could be a similar situation, but not if teams are driving up the price on him.
  18. Brandon Nimmo would be my top target overall, Corey Dickerson would be my top target in free agency I also really like Castellanos but only to play 1B.
  19. Seager sure would look nice in a Brewers uniform now that we've added groundball/ball-in-play machine Brett Anderson to our rotation. I'm not as down on Hiura's longterm prospects at 2B as others, but our current infield defense certainly could use some help.
  20. This is an extremely crude number, but just because I was curious I looked up the fWAR/32GS rate for our current SP options over the last three seasons (2017-2019). I would have used rWAR because it is more favorable to us but couldn't figure out how to split out RP/SP WAR Woodruff - 3.6 fWAR Lindblom - n/a B. Anderson - 1.9 fWAR Lauer - 1.8 fWAR Houser - 2.0 fWAR Peralta - 2.0 fWAR Suter - 2.4 fWAR Faria - 1.5 fWAR If we assume that Lindblom will also be in the 2.0 fWAR range (if he pitched an entire season for this hypothetical), then purely based on past performance that would give our starting rotation a total fWAR slightly above 11.3 fWAR (32 GS x 5 + 2 GS unaccounted for). 11.4 fWAR for the starting rotation would have placed the Brewers at 12th in MLB last season, right ahead of the Braves. Meanwhile I think all of our current pitching options have a certain amount of upside, and our overall pitching staff is bolstered by having a bullpen that could be top-5 in MLB given the return of Knebel. And that's not to mention that I remain a True Believer that the ace of the rotation by the end of 2020 is going to be Corbin Burnes.
  21. Brett Anderson also has the best Twitter game on the team, a very underrated asset. I hope he dunks on Trevor Bauer at some point this season.
  22. #2? We must really be in rebuild mode if he is the second best pitcher we got. Lol Hate to overuse the Moneyball analogy but I think it's pretty clear by this point that Stearns has successfully ignore the "old school" wisdom about what a starting rotation needs to look like. I think Anderson is another guy that can reliably give you 5.0 IP and then pass it over to the bullpen. Maximizing value rather than going all in on 1-2 star pitchers.
  23. Yeah if only we had a "real" pitcher at the end of that "non playoff game" (2018 did not happen of course) instead of... Josh Hader?
  24. Anderson is very solid when he actually pitches. I feel like Stearns may be trying to use or SP depth to advantage by signing a guy who might only give us 100-130 IP. I wonder if Rich Hill is on his radar? 13-9 with a 3.89 ERA in the AL West last year, so far from it actually. Keep up the unsubstantiated hot takes, though There are a lot of negative comments, however, the constant "everything is great" comments can be a bore too. Giving lectures on how people should feel is also pretty old here... Ok? But everything is great. We've made the playoffs two consecutive years during what was supposed to be a rebuilding period, and we arguably have the most effective GM in the sport. Plenty of Yankees jerseys for sale online if you want to follow a team that splashes $300M on a perennial Cy Young contender.
  25. League average player? His floor is Moustakas and his ceiling is 5+ WAR. I like Seager a lot, but I think you're overstating him. Seager's floor is probably around the .673 OPS he put up in 2018 (Moose was not been under a .774 OPS since six years ago). Yes and even in that fluke season he was worth 1.5 fWAR. Over his entire career Moustakas has averaged about 2 fWAR over full season. That's the benefit of elite defense.
