  1. Craig won't do this, but I would let Guerra bat and finish the ninth. 24 pitches and he's dealing.
  2. Yikes, the Brewers killed Travis d'Arnaud's career last night. Mets have DFA'd him.
  3. What a great sequence showing the strength of the lineup: Thames forces the Dodgers to bring in a LHP, which allows lefty-killer Cain to hit a double. Yelich is unstoppable to he gets walked, which allows lefty-killer Braun to hit a 3-run HR.
  4. We're at the point in the season where one bad or good game could dramatically affect K% and BB%. Those stats are close to meaningless. If Hiura is passing the front office's eye test then I suspect he could get the call sooner than all were expecting so that Moose can move over to 1B.
  5. This is an even better idea than Gattis! I didn't realize Valencia was still out there when I was searching for possible options. I see zero reason not to sign one of these guys to start playing 1B in AAA in case things don't improve in the majors. We have no backup options right now.
  6. Trying to think of a reason we wouldn't immediately sign him -Was on the team last year -Left-handed SP -Fairly cheap -Fairly high ceiling in terms of sustained success
  7. To expand on this a bit further, I am more confident in Thames than Aguilar because I think Thames is simply a very streaky hitter who can give you an overall solid line if he is getting regular starts. The problem with Thames is that he should not be playing against LHP. Likewise, I am not concerned about Gattis hitting poorly at the end of last season because he has a long enough track record of being pretty much the same guy year after year. I try not to be pessimistic about Brewers players, but I'm genuinely concerned that the league may have simply figured out how to pitch to Aguilar and this is not a fluke.
  8. This is more of a devil's advocate thread than a bout of angry pessimism about Aguilar, but at what point do the Brewers start shopping around for 1B alternatives to either split time with Thames or take over the primary job, and if they eventually do what about taking a flier on Evan Gattis? Gattis has career splits that would work with Thames or by himself: vs. LHP: .336 wOBA vs. RHP: .326 wOBA He was solid for most of 2018 before a dismal second half tanked his chances of getting a major league deal so far in 2019. 1st Half: .330 wOBA 2nd Half: .262 wOBA He's only 32 and does not have a lot of 1B experience, but he's a former catcher after all and would probably start any deal working on the position at AAA (where we currently have Tyler Saladino manning 1B most of the time...) I think we should take a flier on him sooner rather than later. Even on a split deal he will be cheap at this point.
  9. One of these players is not like the others... One of these players doesn't belong.... I'm assuming Good Claudio shows up In an ideal world where they each match their 2017-2018 bests: Kimbrel, 69.0 IP, 1.43 ERA, 1.42 FIP, 1.50 xFIP, 16.4 K/9, 1.8 BB/9 Hader, 81.1 IP, 2.43 ERA, 2.23 FIP, 2.05 xFIP, 15.8 K/9, 3.3 BB/9, 29 GB% Knebel, 76.0 IP, 1.78 ERA, 2.53 FIP, 2.97 xFIP, 14.9 K/9, 4.7 BB/9, 38 GB% Jeffress, 76.2 IP, 1.29 ERA, 2.78 FIP, 2.86 xFIP, 10.5 K/9, 3.2 BB/9, 56 GB% Claudio, 82.2 IP, 2.50 ERA, 3.21 FIP, 3.30 xFIP, 6.1 K/9, 1.6 BB/9, 67 GB% And you could have at least two other legitimate back-end options with Bobby Wahl and one of Burnes/Peralta ending up in the bullpen.
  10. To be fair, some of these runs should be unearned because of Jesus's horrible defensive attempt.
  11. Too bad that buy won't be ready until 2020. Magically he's managing to put up those numbers with an outlandish 43% K rate. So yeah, brake tapping and whatnot. Does K% mean very much two weeks into the season?
  12. Wouldn't it imply a move that reopen a major league roster spot for Petricka? A signing would do the opposite.
  13. His results have been mixed so far, but according to the eye test Anderson has looked way better in the bullpen.
  14. I'd easily give Kimbrel three years if the payroll space is there. This is a guy who deserves $80-100 million. We would be getting him at a bargain. For most of 2020: RHP Kimbrel LHP Hader RHP Knebel RHP Jeffress LHP Claudio Yikes!
  15. If they have money to sign Keuchel and are choosing not to, it's completely idiotic. I'm optimistic about the longterm prospects of Woodruff/Burnes/Peralta, but it's very obvious that they are still young SP working through growing pains. You can't have the majority of your rotation be those type of guys when you are trying to contend NOW. Yelich and Cain are still MVP-caliber players, we have Grandal and Moustakas for just one season, Braun is still formidable but not for much longer. They NEED to stabilize the rotation.
  16. The projection systems like him quite a bit (for a back-end RP type): Steamer, 8.1 K/9, 2.9 BB/9, 3.69 ERA, 3.85 FIP THE BAT, 8.1 K/9, 2.9 BB/9, 3.27 ERA, 3.45 FIP
  17. I could have sworn Bud Norris was good at one point? But looking at his career stats it doesn't seem like he's ever been good.
