  1. Chacin, Anderson, Davies, and Woodruff are in the rotation right now. Impossible for me to say what Nelson's health is going to be, but if he's ready he will have the fifth spot and Burnes will be in the minors. Otherwise I think the fifth spot goes to Burnes. Guerra, Houser, Albers, Claudio, Hader, Knebel, Jeffress are in the bullpen to start the season. It's not that Burnes and Peralta haven't earned it, but they should be starting in AAA until needed.
  2. Peralta and Ray for Bumgarner, Smith and Panik would intrigue me. I don't know about all three, but adding in Panik is intriguing. He also had a poor 2018, but a lot of upside there. I would much rather trade Woodruff than Freddy.
  3. So who here would trade Corey Ray for Wade LeBlanc? By that logic, we should just sign Miley to a 10-year, $300 million deal. I would gladly trade Ray for 2018 LeBlanc (1.7 fWAR) if he had that floor along with the upside of a legitimate ace.
  4. If we could trade Ray for Bumgarner and a draft pick that would be fantastic. I'm no expert obviously but Ray's stats are not very exciting to me. He was supposed to be a polished hitter and yet his strikeout numbers and batting average have been dismal for a guy who may not be a CF.
  5. Most interesting part is the reference to Tyrone Taylor's swing adjustment. Maybe the organization thinks he is back as a legit prospect and want him on the 25-man.
  6. Though if either player were actually as good as those WAR numbers suggest, then I'm confused as to the need to trade one or the other. They're out of options but it's not like we don't need a fourth outfielder this year. I imagine Stearns is not as high on either player going forward as the numbers suggest.
  7. Most of the controversial selections have been made by special committees, outside of the BBWAA. Have the writers elected or denied someone you think was treated wrongly? Yes, the fact that Barry Bonds is not in the "Hall of Fame" is an absolute joke. If Bonds is not in the hall then nobody else belongs in the hall except maybe Ruth or Williams or a handful of others.
  8. The BBWAA hacks have destroyed the integrity of the institution, so I would only vote for Barry Bonds because the standard has now been set where nobody else should get in after fewer years than however many it takes for him to get in (unless Babe Ruth or Ted Williams needed to be voted in again for some reason...)
  9. Wahl has had multiple serious injuries, including thoracic outlet syndrome, which of course are not especially encouraging in their own right but at least help explain his lack of MLB experience.
  10. If Cain gets hurt they can just move Yelich to CF and use Gamel/Thames in RF (not ideal obviously but probably better than starting Broxton in CF everyday)
  11. Fangraphs gave Wahl's fastball a 70-grade back in 2017: I'm of course most excited about Valerio though. Crazy stats so the upside is something to dream on.
  12. That projection seems fairly ridiculous, but I do think it is fair for Brewers fans to hedge their 2019 expectations a bit given the team's current weaknesses on paper. The projection system means very little, but so does simply saying "we did well in 2018 so what is going to change?" Projection systems have given up on Arcia (hopefully they are wrong), and our current starting 2B is probably Perez. Aguilar is a risk to plummet back to earth and Pina at his best his below average. That means our entire infield except Shaw (who has his platoon issues) could be bad. Meanwhile the rotation has obvious faults.
  13. Tulowitzki isn't at the point in his career where he affects a Machado signing one way or the other. This is a good fit for both player and team, because Tulowitzki can play SS everyday on a premiere team until Didi is back and then if Tulo has been good the Yankees will be able to sell high on a half season of either player. Or Tulo becomes a super utility player (or he is bad again and gets cut) The Brewers offered a similar opportunity but he would have had to move to 2B and his offensive numbers would be less padded here.
  14. Pina is better than Lucroy, so not too bothered about this. I'm not very excited about Kratz as a backup, but I think Pina is a perfectly fine primary catcher unless we somehow land Realmuto or Grandal.
  15. The appeal of Gray is that he has the realistic upside of giving you a low 3 ERA season, which is hard to find (hitting the lottery like with Miley doesn't happen every year). But he's not exactly cheap and only around for one year so I would not give up a good prospect for him.
  16. Two reasons he's highly unlikely to be a Brewer: - Scott Boras - Money It's not like Keuchel is a Harper/Machado or even Darvish tier free agent. Brewers could easily be the highest bidder if the front office really loves him like they did Cain. I don't know if they do or not.
  17. In 2018, Gamel would have had the third highest OBP on the Brewers (behind Yelich and Cain) Lol. Talk about cherry picking a stat. No power, no defense, no hitting. Other than that he is wonderful. He will take a walk and he has an option. Spectacular player. He is Ramon Flores. OBP is kind of an important stat. (Ramon Flores had a .294 OBP with the Brewers by the way). If Gamel and OBP and power he would be a star player, not a useful fourth outfielder like we paid for. Not every player on a 25-man roster is going to be an All Star.
  18. In 2018, Gamel would have had the third highest OBP on the Brewers (behind Yelich and Cain)
  19. I find discussing Braun on here impossible because so many people come in with extra baggage regarding their opinions (pro or against). If nothing else Braun is one of the only players on the team who can hit LHP well (.863 OPS, 125 wRC+ last season despite his horrible batted ball luck). In that respect, people should be complaining because Counsell won't start platooning Braun to optimize his value, not that Stearns should have dumped Braun's negative-value contract (as if it is that easy) for a net loss. And even at his worst he is roughly a 2.0 fWAR/league average corner outfielder (not "slightly above replacement"...) with the ability to go on MVP-esque hot streaks. We more or less know what we're getting. We don't know what we're getting from Santana: it's very possible that he has a 35.0 K% next season and flunks out of the majors. If you want to know what an actual end-of-contract-former-MVP albatross is look at Albert Pujols or Miguel Cabrera. Braun has held up relatively well for us.
  20. Personally I would prefer a longer contract with a lower AAV. Braun's contract will be coming off the books soon and even if Keuchel completely falls off a cliff we can absorb 1-2 of those contracts without seriously hampering things. He's only 30 and his pitching style suggests it will age better than most. If it takes 5/$90 million to bring him to Milwaukee it's fine by me. Maybe 35-year-old Keuchel is not worth $16 million, but that's actually not that much money anymore and we are in a competitive window right now.
  21. Stearns gave Cain 5/$80 million last offseason even before we came one game from the World Series, so I don't think a big deal is out of the question if they think Keuchel is an undervalued bargain
  22. Two reasons he seems like a great fit for the Brewers: -Having one guy who can give you 200+ IP seems like it would have a massive impact on the effectiveness and stamina of the bullpen. -The unorthodox thing about Keuchel is that he's not a strikeout machine, but inducing weak contact gels perfectly with our defense (see also: Alex Claudio)
  23. Brewers are rumored to be one of a handful of teams in on Dallas Keuchel. If they can find the money I'm all for it. Keuchel is only 30 so he's unlikely to fall off a cliff in the next 4-5 years. That would be a fun rotation, especially if Anderson fixes things and Nelson is halfway decent.
  24. Sure, but none of this is plausible unless Stearns did not believe in Santana being a cheap mid-20s All Star caliber OF like he was in 2017. You don't add Yelich and Cain if you believe in Santana.
  25. Because Braun has been more injury prone... HR per 162 G: 2015 - 29 2016 - 36 2017 - 27 2018 - 26 Hence my original post.
