  1. Hernan Perez is one of the better options on the team against LHP, which is why I don't get adding Moustakas and Schoop, but whatever
  2. Splits: career / this season Moustakas vs. LHP: .300 wOBA / .300 wOBA Moustakas vs. RHP: .323 wOBA / .336 wOBA Shaw vs. LHP: .308 wOBA / .246 wOBA Shaw vs. RHP: .353 wOBA / .384 wOBA Schoop vs. LHP: .304 wOBA / .300 wOBA Schoop vs. RHP: .325 wOBA / .308 wOBA I don't totally get these moves, to be honest. If you're going to have too many guys for too few positions, at least try to add a guy with complementary platoon splits. (Hernan Perez can arguably fill that role, he strongly favors LHP but hasn't been used that way this season) I don't think Travis Shaw should ever be sitting, he is the best player out of the three and even though he's been awful against LHP this season his career numbers vs. LHP are the best. I would start Shaw at 3B and Schoop at 2B almost everyday and let Moustakas be a bench/utility guy, though Counsell is almost surely not going to do that. If Schoop is a legitimate option at SS then this makes a lot more sense.
  3. Out of the box: Stearns makes a big play for Tyler Skaggs from the Angels. Sonny Gray would be a good buy low, and the Yankees just added another SP.
  4. Would you say there is a 0% chance he takes that option, like you said there's a 0% chance Villar is better as an RHB even though his career OPS is 60 points better from that side of the plate? Pretty amazing how, according to you, the thing that is supported by factual evidence and history is the thing that can't possibly be legit, whereas the alternative is 100% obvious in both cases. Glad you're a fan of my posting history, though if you go and re-read that thread you'll see that I said there is a 0% chance that Jonathan Villar is better against LHP than Daniel Murphy. There's a non-zero chance that Moustakas exercises the option, and if he does it will be because of a confluence of events and his belief that he can still get a big multi-year deal after 2019 given his age. There is 0% chance that Moustakas and Boras exercise the option because they don't think Moustakas could make more than $15 million as a free agent. And Moustakas received at least one $45+ million offer last offseason, so I'm not sure which side factual evidence and history supports. It's a figure of speech, by the way. Obviously none of these things have a literal "0.0 %" chance of happening.
  5. Shaw completed a game at 2B more or less without incident
  6. Perhaps we should all wait and see. Big improvement in your second try. With Donalson, Beltre, and Machado available, the 3B market could be even tougher than it was last year. Nothing crazy about thinking a guy with a career OBP just north of .300 might have to settle for $15m. It's absolutely crazy and delusional to think that Moustakas could not beat 1/$15 million on the open market. Sorry if I was unclear.
  7. Finally? Hasn't he done this several times in the past few years? Boras gets the biggest deals done...but he's also hurt some clients when he's trying to reset the market and the teams just aren't biting. And I don't see a guy who coming off a very good year who gets 6.5 million "easily" getting 80 million when you have Machado, Donaldson and Beltre available at the same position he plays. Yea, no way Moustakas is getting some 80-100 plus million dollar contract this offseason. He's not even 30 yet, he will hopefully put up some nice numbers in a half-season outside Kansas City, there may be significantly more demand for 3B this offseason, and he was being projected to get that much going into last offseason. Perhaps we should all wait and see.
  8. It's called a generalization/figurative language...
  9. That's not how much a Moustakas-type players costs. Moustakas will likely get $80+ million plus this offseason.
  10. The biggest reason there wasn’t a market was that he had draft pick compensation tied to him, an obstacle he won’t have to overcome this offseason. Also nobody needed a high-end 3B last offseason. The Yankees got Frazier cheap very early, and then the only team left was the Angels who offered Moustakas $45+ million that he turned down, and they ended up converting Cozart.
  11. There's a natural aversion to losing guys/changing things for fans who follow teams too closely. Case in point, I don't recall ever seeing a single person on here praise Kodi Medeiros as a prospect, and suddenly lots of people were aghast at losing him for Soria.
  12. The notion that Moustakas couldn't best a 1/$15 million deal this offseason is crazy. Let's be realistic, he's going to be a free agent and he's likely going to get $80 million or more, perhaps nine figures, in the offseason. The only reason he ended up back in Kansas City is because Boras finally miscalculated by holding out for a mega-mega-deal too long.
  13. Didn't realize that Corey Ray was finally beasting! K's could come down but I'll take a 30/30 season (40/40 upside?)
  14. Not the best option as there is a shortage of 3B options and over 10 FA 2B coming out next year. The numbers say to move Shaw back to 3B and pick up a FA 2B... And put Perez and other IF options back into a reserve role. Baseball Reference lists Moustakas as having a $15 million mutual option for 2019. Does this mean he isn't a 2 month rental & the Brewers can keep him for next season? mutual = both must say yes or it's a no... The 2018-19 3B market looks better than the 2B market to me. Ideally they could convince Moustakas to exercise his one-year option, so they could do 3B Moose, 2B Shaw for another year until Hiura is ready to take over and Shaw can shift back over to 3B. I'm sure Moustakas will test the market though.
  15. Another thing making it easier to give up Phillips: I didn't realize Domingo had rebounded to a .287/.413/.448 line in AAA. He's only a year older than Phillips and if the front office still thinks he has a role in our future then where does Phillips play.
  16. One way it could make the team better in 2019 is if Shaw shows he can play a credible 2B. The front office presumably sees some opportunity there, and you obviously can't try Shaw at 2B if it mean's you're starting Perez and Villar (?) as our everyday 3B in the interim.
  17. I'm sure the front office is making these moves with the expectation that Arcia will be closer to a .300 wOBA hitter the rest of the way. He did go on an impressive tear at AAA after all.
  18. I know he's only 25, but that's paying for Bundy as if he was already a top of the rotation pitcher, rather than the mediocrity that he has been. Lots to give up for a lottery ticket.
  19. Steamer rest of season projections: Manny Machado, .358 wOBA Mike Moustakas, .340 wOBA Brian Dozier, .337 wOBA Jonathan Schoop, .327 wOBA Asdrubal Cabrera, .324 wOBA Eduardo Escobar, .317 wOBA Jonathan Villar, .305 wOBA Twins are probably asking too much for Dozier considering he is having a poor season so you really have to bank on a rebound, like the projection systems.
  20. D.J. LeMahieu is taller than that just among active players (and a fantastic defender) Yes, I forgot LeMahieu was that tall. I can’t think of any others. According to Baseball Reference, the tallest 2B (>50% of a season) in history is Dick Hall, who played for the Pirates in the 1950s and was listed at 6'6" Lots of 6'4" guys in second place.
  21. I didn't mean to imply that I think he's bad. In fact, this is probably the best net offensive upgrade we could have hoped for (although it remains to be seen how Shaw's defense factors in). I guess I was just responding to the MLB.com coverage and the general notion that Moustakas is a star player. Phillips/Lopez is not an unfair return though, we didn't exactly pay for an All Star.
  22. D.J. LeMahieu is taller than that just among active players (and a fantastic defender)
  23. [sarcasm]Tomorrow's lineup CF Cain LF Yelich RF Thames 1B Aguilar 2B Shaw 3B Moustakas SS Braun C Santana P Kratz[/sarcasm]
  24. Well that terribly overrated player still has 20 bombs and 62 RBI for a terrible team. * shrug * Precisely why he's overrated. He's doing it with a .309 OBP as a corner infielder. I'm not saying he's bad, this is still an upgrade if Shaw can play passable defense at 2B, I just feel like Moustakas is treated like a perennial All Star simply because he was a first-round pick over a decade ago and played for a World Series team.
