Mariners To Sign Robinson Cano By Steve Adams [December 6 at 9:57am CST] The Mariners and Robinson Cano are in agreement on a 10-year, $240MM contract, according to Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes.com (Spanish link). Reports from earlier today indicated that talks between Cano and the Mariners had crumbled after Jay-Z suddenly upped his demands back to $252MM when the Mariners were prepared to offer $225MM over nine years. The two sides appear to have reached a middle ground, with Cano's camp dropping by $12MM or so and the Mariners agreeing to add a tenth season at $15MM.

I second (or third) this. Although I was FOR trading Aoki, I would have rather waited to see if we could have had something better at the deadline. How many 4/5-types do we need battling it out for mediocrity. i think you are overestimating the trade market for a 32 year old outfielder who will be a free agent in 2015. I'm sure Doug tried to get more and realized that this was the best he was going to get. Agreed. Getting off topic, but I agree on PEDs for recovery. Its hard for me to get mad at a player for wanting to use the best medical treatment that's available to stay on the field in the case of injury or to recover faster between games and workouts. Why do people believe that the only reason Braun took PEDs was to avoid or recover from injuries. Because he said so? Also, so it's ok to lie and cheat as long as the reason you are doing it is to make money? Really? Are these the values we want to endorse in our society? lying and cheating to make money have been in our society for decades, its already been endorsed by million and billionaires

It was interesting to learn that he had dinner with the Dino last night. that was the exact moment I had to ask this question, heh! glad to know he met with dino too.

seeing as how Aoki is an every-day RF on our team as it is, and would be on most other teams, I would have to agree he'd probably be one of the best 4th OF in the league. which is why he wont be a 4th OF on the Brewers and be a starting RF come April if he's not traded.

badenhop was nothing great, nothing bad, he was middle of the road and forgettable (i cant remember any game he pitched that was a "wow" appearance). all this does is open a spot up on the 40 man and give a shot to one of our plethora of AAAA arms a shot to prove themselves in the pen. I dont see anything wrong with this, and who knows, Ortega could turn into a serviceable bullpen arm in the future.

Cardinals Acquire Peter Bourjos By Steve Adams [November 22 at 1:46pm CST] 1:46pm: Outfield prospect Randal Grichuk is going from the Angels to the Cardinals, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register (on Twitter). The Halos just added Grichuk, 22, to their 40-man roster this week to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft. The Angels selected Grichuk 24th overall in the 2009 draft -- their first of two consecutive picks. The second pick netted superstar Mike Trout. 1:33pm: Yahoo's Tim Brown tweets that while Bourjos and Freese are the primary players in the deal, a couple other pieces are involved as well. 1:19pm: The Cardinals have acquired Peter Bourjos from the Angels, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter). MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reports that David Freese will head to the Angels in the deal. Other pieces could be involved in the deal, though that's not yet known at this time. Bourjos, who turns 27 at the end of Spring Training, is a defensive wizard in center field that owns a career .251/.306/.398 batting line. He slashed .274/.333/.377 in an injury-shortened season after being hit by a pitch on the wrist and requiring surgery. He also posted an impressive .271/.327/.438 batting line with 12 homers and 22 steals in 2011, showing off that he's capable of being a plus offensive player in a full season as well. The speedster has a career 20.2 UZR/150 rating in more than 2,600 innings in center field. MLBTR contributor Matt Swartz projected a $1.1MM salary for Bourjos in 2014. Freese, 30, had a down season at the plate in 2013, slashing .262/.340/.381 with just nine homers. He was significantly better in 2012, when he belted 20 homers and batted .293/.372/.467 in 144 games. Freese is typically regarded as a solid defender at third base, but both The Fielding Bible and Ultimate Zone Rating graded his work poorly this season. Freese began the season on the DL with a back strain, and if that pain lingered throughout the season, it could explain his decline on both sides of the game. Swartz projects Freese to earn $4.4MM in 2014. The Angels had a clear need at third base after trading Alberto Callaspo to the A's last July, and the Cardinals were in the market for a defensive upgrade from Jon Jay, whose center field defense has grade out as a negative over the course of his career. In that sense, the two sides line up well for a trade, though Freese comes with just two years of team control compared to Bourjos' three. He also has a significantly higher salary, so it would stand to reason, in my opinion, that the Angels are receiving another prospect in the deal.
