  1. Jungmann has a 1.79 ERA over seven starts since May 1. I saw this today online, that is impressive. having an ERA that low over 7 games is impressive.
  2. this is something ive always wondered about, and with the new CBA, never understood why this was never implemented. Is there a reason why MLB does not allow the trading of draft picks? Every other major league allows it (NHL, NBA, NFL), and can help struggling teams quickly rebuild. Is it because of how long it takes players to develop in the minors? Is it something the union is against? owners? Ive never been able to understand it, and was hoping that someone here might help shed some light on it. I, for one, am a fan of teams being able to do this in the NHL (major players for 1st rd picks + players), and I think its interesting in the NFL to see teams trade picks in the draft (like what the vikings did, trading multiple rds of picks for extra 1st rd picks).
  3. that had nothing to do with why they didnt sign Loshe, their #1 pick was protected. it had everything to do with spending money, which is something they do not do.
  4. if were gunna take on an either contract like that, why not just extend Cory Hart?
  5. outside of you, though, how many people REALLY thought Liriano would be far outperforming Loshe at this point in the year? good pick up by the buccos, for sure, but I think if they had the money to spend (they do, they just choose not to spend it) and the chance to sign Loshe over Liriano, they'd do it. *edit - I realize you probably never actually predicted Liriano would be out performing Loshe, im not going through all the pages of this fantastic thread I started to check im just assuming, and taking the risk with that.
  6. Brewers have won two in a row? http://i.imgur.com/NHuJ8.gif
  7. He's a 1B named Cooper? How could he not be? might not be of the same Cooper lineage we were hoping for... http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/aub/sports/m-basebl/auto_headshot/8527864.jpeg Batting Season avg gp-gs ab r h 2b 3b hr rbi tb slg% bb hbp so gdp ob% sf sh sb-att 2012 .324 49 - 49 173 35 56 9 0 5 31 80 .462 17 13 30 3 .420 2 3 1 - 1 2013 .354 56 - 56 189 31 67 12 1 7 37 102 .540 37 10 30 11 .481 1 1 1 - 1 TOTAL .340 105 - 105 362 66 123 21 1 12 68 182 .503 54 23 60 14 .452 3 4 2 - 2
  8. Gorzo at least has success as a starter in the majors.. he'll probably only go 4 innings though
  9. pebadger, your last two posts were really good.
  10. For those stating that Braun had steroids in his sample, you need to read the article Will Carrol wrote about how Braun's team was able to duplicate the test results. did they just have braun pee in another cup?
  11. if you had the option to the following two arguments for your appeal, what would you take? a.) appeal the drug test result (which has never been overturned) b.) appeal the process of collecting the urine sample for testing (which has never been appealed before) why on allah's green earth would you argue both points when all you have to do is argue the second? we dont know the test results validity to whether or not braun actually used PED's because it is not was not necessary to win the case. It is complete speculation on all sides to say definitively that Braun 100% used/didnt use PED's because they didnt argue that angle in the appeal hearing.
  12. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=592804 He simply hasn't been very good so far. Deepest he's gone in any of his 12 starts so far is 5.2 IP, & he's only gone more than 5.0 one other time. can any of that be because of the team on the field behind him?
  13. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/blog_article/does-mlb-have-a-case-this-time/ fantastic article written on hardballtimes by Eugene Freedman about just how difficult this will be for MLB to win. I suggest everyone reading it if you have time
  14. 4 - be very curious to see how much info is leaked if they do get suspended, and what the players union is going do to about it. if the players do get suspended, the union will file grievances and appeal to arbitration just like last time. when this does go to arbitration, the direct/cross examination of Bosch is going to be insane. Ive already been thinking of how both sides will argue the facts/questions... I do not envy the panel of arbitrators at all.
  15. they're seeking the facts to suspend players
  16. brewers won in extra innings last night?! won by YUNI???? 4-3 over oakland! http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/17mc14zhkhlkbgif/original.gif
  17. it'll be good for ALL players if that works out like that. MLBPA cannot allow the MLB to run rampant with discipline.
  18. I just read the CBA and I really don't know how they could. To suspend for a performance enhancing drug the agreement states they need to show use or possession of a banned substance. I don't see how lying about it equates use or possession. There is also a provision that allows the Commissioner to suspend someone for "just cause" for abusing prohibited substance but lying about it does not equate using a prohibited substance. I think they are threatening with 100 with the hopes that the players take the 50 without appealing. I havent read all of the posts yet but I felt I needed to comment to this. There is a defined penalty structure that MLB and the MLBPA agreed to in the CBA, as well as within the JDA. In a short, simple answer, IF the MLB goes for a 100 game suspension of Ryan Braun they will be violating the agreed upon terms of the CBA, and THAT technicality will be how Braun wins the appeal, for not following the defined penalty structure, thus showing that MLB did not have "just cause". Again, it will not be because of testimony of Biogensis/ect or whatever was in the previous arbitration, it will be because of the language of the CBA, and the misinterpretation of it by MLB.
  19. they wont and you can rest assured there will be grievances filed immediately and taken to arbitration
  20. I'll take a groundball with a chance over a strikeout any day. But if we are comparing a groundout to a K, the difference in terms of expected production doesn't make it worth caring about. I want Brewer wins, not pretty outs. at this point, I dont care about wins, I want pretty outs
  21. This is irrelevant as Segura provides plus defense at SS. its not irrelevant when everyone is discussing Scooters ability at the plate far more than his ability on the field.
  22. the absolute best case scenario in my eyes...Scooter turns into Joe Morgan.
  23. I think the difference in k-rate between Gennett and Weeks could be enough of a positive... even if gennett just grounds out every time instead. i'd rather see a guy make contact and get out than someone swing and miss the pitch by a mile
