  1. I'm sure they would have if they had foreseen that the free agent market would turn out this way, but now we already have Vogt. Gallardo is the only player on a non-guaranteed major league contract. “Vogt's arbitration contract is a non-guaranteed deal. The Brewers will have the ability to release him during Spring Training and owe him only a portion of his deal in the form of termination pay. Should he make the Opening Day roster, his salary will then become fully guaranteed.”
  2. I’ve been against it but if Lucroy could be had for a 2yr deal at about $5-6M per season, I’m all for it. He would pencil in very nicely in the 7-hole. Even as he struggled to hit he still got on base. He and Pina could be a nice duo. Pina hit righties better than lefties last year.
  3. Say you can get Luc at 2yr/$10M, do you pull the trigger?
  4. I’m with you there. I think it will be our weakest position on the field. Really not a fan of Pina being the starter or Vogt and his lack of defense.
  5. If we are looking for grit and competitiveness just hand the ball to Suter every 5 days. If we are actually looking at winning something anytime soon, we better try to play our cards right with Darvish and see if it is a fit. Annoying or not, he is the best choice out on the market.
  6. Wish we had signed him instead of Vogt.
  7. Don't blame them. Piss or get off the pot already.
  8. The question is then, will limiting their flexibility pay off? And even if they acquired a pitcher, it doesn't mean in two years that they couldn't move on and recoup some players in a trade. Same goes for Yelich and possibly Cain. Sure there are owners that are more or less risk averse than others and/or more profit oriented than baseball results oriented. Either way, do we really believe that people who can afford to buy sports franchises have no plan for the future? I don't believe that they do but I also believe that some of them buy them as "toys" more than they do about making a boatload of cash.
  9. Exactly. No one will "force" Stearns to do diddly-pooh. We worry more than he is probably. Another way to put it. Would Stearns/CC PREFER to have Phillips as the 4th OF? Yes, I think they would. Do they NEED him to be right now? No. And I agree, Broxton isn't even a thought. If you can get a couple high ceiling lottery guys back, trade him. Otherwise, AAA is fine for him right now. It is definitely a game of chicken that we can win. Either we stash Phillips and Broxton in AAA or someone gets hurt in our OF and we have two great options to come up and fill in for that player. If other teams don't believe that we'll do that, well if I'm Stearns I just ignore it and stay the course.

  12. . http://i.imgur.com/okxEzsk.gif So where is Domingo going again?
  13. Instead of helping the Dodgers clear payroll to sign Darvish by trading for Grandal, why not sign Lucroy instead? Not sure Lucroy is all the good anymore. I guess it would depend on the contract needed to get him. But from things posters have posted about his defense, it doesn't seem wise.
  14. Maybe Pina was worn out because he had to catch every game for a month when Vogt got injured because Bandy wasn't good enough to do more than 2-3 starts in that month. Assuming that doesn't happen again, and with a full season under his belt, I would think less drop off in 2018. Manny Pina really never has caught that many games in a season(last year was his only 100+ game season of his entire career) no matter if it was last season or any of his minor league seasons. It's a big reason why I would gladly support adding a Grandal because I'm not sold on Pina being anything better than a really good backup catcher.
  15. Kind of a hot take, but I wonder if Knebel is being talked about in potential deals? You know Hader is off the table, so he would be the only other pen option that would have high trade value. And it isn't like the Brewers haven't sold high on a closer before. They could theoretically hand the closers role to Hader and sign Tony Watson, or sign someone like Greg Holland to an affordable deal. Yes, I tend to agree with this take too. Knebel could be a great candidate for being included in a trade. Not only him but I don't really think Jeffress or Logan are locks to this bullpen. Or heck, even Barnes (I think he has options?) You gotta believe that if there is a deal out there for a very good bullpen arm and the cost is very reasonable, that Stearns is going to make it. I think he learned a hard lesson last season with the bullpen he tried to start the season with.
  16. I do agree with you that it looks good on paper but I'm not sure it's set. If they find bargain deals in the next month, I think Stearns will make the move. You can never have too many options out there.
  17. Maybe it was a mistype and they meant 87 wins.
  18. At this point, I hope there is another trade just so some can stop pretending to know everything about what the Brewers could or could not get for "X" player(s) and calling other people stupid or belittling them like their idea is the only idea.
  19. That’s where we are heading.
  20. Dodgers must not want to give up the prospects to get a guy like Kemp off their payroll.
  21. [sarcasm]He’s just looking for some good press.[/sarcasm]
  22. Darvish seems like a tool. Let’s just beat him in the playoffs.
  23. Oh no. Here we go again!
  24. Because they aren't going to go into the season with Yelich, Cain, Braun, Santana, Phillips and Broxton in the OF. Broxton and Phillips can go to AAA and Braun to 1B might be more realistic than people want to think about.
