  1. I'm probably in the minority here but I prefer Maryvale over any other complex. It's simple and scaled back from what all the other teams have. It's easier to park and get into the stadium. It's nice to see big league talent in less than a big league park. Plus it doesn't hurt that it is one of the least expensive options. For the last 8 years I've been buying 6 or 7 dollar lawn seats and moving near homeplate. Can't do that at ANY other complex.
  2. Curious what everyone thinks... Does DM really think CC's agent is ever going to tell him he can give up hope? Would CC really take less money even by $1.00 to play in Milwaukee than NY? I think they are just stringing Doug along so the Yankees up their offer. If the money was the same would CC pick Milwaukee over NY?
  3. I think this should be viewed as a positive for the Brewers. It lowers the price on other closers.
  4. Born into it. Grew up in Greenfield, WI. My parents like to tell the story about how disappointed I was when my dad took me to my first tee-ball game that it wasn't at county stadium. My favorite player was Molitor. I've been a die hard since I was like 4.
  5. We could sign CC, trade for A-Rod and Jeter and still be a small market team. The term small market team has to do with the amount of fans (population) and sponsors willing to give you money to advertise during your games. Not how much money the team spends on its players. Sorry just a pet-peave.
  6. I think cost of living is overlooked by a lot of people too though. Not just fans but the teams and players as well. There was a post a while back, sorry don't have the time to dig for it, showing how the Yankees offer is the equivalent to Milwaukee offering 13/yr because of cost of living. Wouldn't 5/100 in Milwaukee be more net income to CC than 5/110 in SF anyway?
  7. I realize that it Johnson isn't a 25 year old where character matters as much, but I wouldn't want him on my team. I've watched him here in Phoenix, read and watched his interviews. Even this article talks about his goals and they are all personal stat based. If it's up to me I don't want a guy that is coming back for milestones. If he was chasing his first world series then absolutely. I have more respect for guys like Mussina that don't come back just for a shot at a milestone. I will also admit that I personally am 300 wins short of one his goal so I don't know what it is like...
  8. I always got the impression that not only doesn't Dunn like hitting in Milwaukee, he just doesn't like the city. Just an opinion... I don't think Milwaukee is in his top 20 or 25.
  9. I'm guessing they'd need JJ in order to make the deal. I don't know what else we have that they would want. At one point I thought they may take Hall but he's not even close to enough to get Jenks.
  10. Invader that completely goes against all that is Scott Boras. He gives no discounts. I go 3 years of Sheets before I do 4 years of Lowe. Does it surprise anyone that Lowe is worth more than Sheets? Other than the health factor if I had to pick one player to start one game for me I take Sheets over Lowe.
  11. CC was/is great but I hope he goes to the Dodgers or Yankees. It makes the most sense for him and the Brewers. He had a heavy work load last year and signing him to a huge contract and having him hurt or ineffective would be devestating to the team. Take the 2 picks and keep building with young talent. My hope is CC to Dodgers or Angels and Sheets to the Yankees.
  12. i think I take 6 yr 140 million anywhere in the US before I take 7 yr 175 to play for Toronto. Taxes are killer...
  13. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/34211659.html We have our answer now. Interested to hear everyones opinion on this.
  14. Game 162 when win and your in, lose and you go gome... is more important than game 1. The same way a 1 game playoff for a playoff spot is more important than game 1. Hate to reference basketball here but every team has a guy that can give you 20 points a night. Even a losing team. That doesn't mean that guy is a star, it means he is the best player on a losing team. For years Sheets was the best player on a losing team. In my opinion, Sheets will never be the best player on a WINNING team. Thats what makes him the greatest #2 starter for any team, but less than ideal #1 starter.
  15. Sorry this may be a stupid question but do they play on Maui at all? I will be there in 2 weeks and I was just wondering if I could catch a game.
  16. As much talk as there is about how it would be a bad idea to have CC longterm because of the money and potential for injury that's all it is for Sheets. He's a great pitcher and I'd love to have him back, he's just not a smart signing for anything more than 1 year 12-15 million. Any longer than that contract I'd rather just let him go because so much of the teams future success is determined by a player you can't rely on to take the mound every fifth day.
  17. A few months back I commented about how much I dislike BA. Someone responded saying something along the lines of name someone better. To be honest there aren't many great TV announcers. I started paying closer attention to other teams broadcasts on Extra innings and it's true. I can't say that I can think of many TV announcers I enjoy listening to. It's easier to just name horrible ones. Since Steve Stone went to the white sox I enjoy him more. I also respect him for the incident with the cubs a few years back where he was brutally honest. The Reds announcers have always been respectful of the Brewers therefore I like them. I do enjoy BA and Schroeder alot more than Sutton and Grace here in Phoenix that's fore sure.
  18. I seem to remember the Brewers first ST game is usually against the A's on a Thursday at Maryvale. I could be wrong, but I try to get to that game every year. Almost no one in the crowd, $6 lawn seat that becomes a few rows back of the Brewers dug out.
  19. For what it's worth, I heard Buster Olney say that Milwaukee may offer 4 yrs 100 million and that the Yankees may offer 4 years 140 million. I know it's Buster olney, and a couple "maybes" but I found it relevant enough. With the Yankees moving to their new stadium, all of their money, an even more impatient version of a Steinbrenner, 4 yrs 140 doesnt surprise me. I also can't blame CC for taking it. That's too much money to turn down.
  20. Don't take this the wrong way but that 4-ish ERA that throws 200IP is Suppan... I don't know that I'd rather have him.
  21. Ok you can go ahead and disprove my post but I've always felt that Corey is an average defender, slightly above average at best. I think people overrate his defense because of his size and it looks like he should be slow. I wasn't impressed with his defense after the all-star break. It seemed like he lacked hustle and accepted balls bouncing in front of him when he could have made a diving play. I don't think he belongs in CF at all. I'm afraid it would be one of those situations with Cameron where you don't know what you had until it's gone. Hart deserves a chance to come back in the spring fresh. See if he can regain his first half form of last year before we go trading him for lesser value.
  22. Weeks isn't a great defender but can we stop with the comments like "my grandma could make that play" or anything about beer league players. I know people are making a point but it's insulting. In an entire MLB season plus spring training and now playoffs guys will make mistakes. How about comments that reflect his performance compared to actual athletes, not plumbers and car salesmen.
  23. I know that things would be different if a team like the Yankees were to sign CC, Sheets, and Cameron, or really any free agents greater in value than Cameron. Correct me if I'm wrong(probably am) but then Cameron's value as far as a Type B player could be as low as a Third round pick or a Second round sandwich pick.
  24. I read the comments then came on here to see if anyone else read that junk. I'm so glad this site is here for knowledgable baseball fans.
  25. Just echoing other people here but yeah, wild card champions sounds a little ridiculous. Nothing wrong with 2008 NL Wild Card or something to that effect though.
