  1. I'm not sure if you're talking to me. I don't know if Howard/Zimmerman did or did not obtain PED's. But the story is so poorly supported I'm not going to assume they did.
  2. "There is no link between the controversy and the channel's closure, however. The investigative unit that produced the doping documentary will remain in operation." That's good. Remaining in operation will make scheduling depositions easier for Howard and Zimmerman.
  3. Al Jazeera America shutting down. http://money.cnn.com/2016/01/13/media/al-jazeera-america/index.html
  4. I think the internet streamers are going to kill the golden goose.
  5. They can fill out teams with undrafted free agents. But if they were sanctioned with losing their first 5 picks (whatever rounds those would be), and the pool money associated with those picks, I could live with that.
  6. This incident is a million times more serious than football's deflategate. I too think losing an entire draft would be appropriate. I really don't care about the fine since it provides zero deterrent for future bad acts.
  7. I think the writer's HOF voting should be one year only. No limit on the number you can vote for--vote for as many newly eligible players as you want. Anyone who doesn't get in during year 1 goes to the veteran's committee.
  8. Since the Brewers are punting the season anyway I would have preferred an excellent fielding 1B to help the pitching--though I'm not sure who that would be. But I don't dislike the deal.
  9. Certainly a host of athletes have lied about PED use (Armstrong, Braun, Palmiero, etc.), but I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt to an athlete who denies use where the accuser has completely recanted. We live in a world where TV networks/media outlets put the truth on the back burner when ratings/clicks are to be had.
  10. I agree 100%. I remember a few years ago Brian Cushing won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award and it came out after the season that he popped for PED use during the season. A collective yawn from NFL writers and fans was the response. No stripping of the award. Nothing. If that happened in baseball the PED user would be burned in effigy. Minor quibble, but the best part about the Cushing ROY was that after he whizzed hot the AP decided to revote for the award....and Cushing won the revote too. I had completely forgotten about the revote. I just remembered that he never lost the award. Yes, double standard indeed.

  12. Ryan Zimmerman and Ryan Howard have filed defamation lawsuits against Al Jazeera. That didn't take long. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/14511191/ryan-zimmerman-ryan-howard-file-defamation-suits-vs-al-jazeera
  13. I can't believe the HOF voting is left to baseball writers. That's the joke.
  14. Least credible TV network in the history of ever. This story deserves the amount of attention the network deserves. None.
  15. Good. The worse the better. That's not how you treat paying customers greeg35. The way to treat paying customers is to give them a championship. Not sign middling FA's in an effort to win 80 games.
  16. The Brewers souldn't be trading for any short term option at any position. There's plenty of free players (relatively speaking) available to fill out a lineup. No need to give up assets to get them.
  17. I'll play 1B this year for the Brewers. L's are a good thing in 2016 and I'll play for the league minimum. Win-win.
  18. Always take a shot on a former top prospect with big power about to hit his prime. He is able to find it again, we got a steal.... if he doesn't and can't hit for crap as he has past 2 seasons....you release him. All positive. Either he regains form, improves enough to be solid bench bat & playing 1B/3B, or he's gone for nothing Middlebrooks couldn't muster an OPS higher than .666 in the Pacific Coast league last season. That's not "big power." That's a waste of time. I don't care what Middlebrooks hit in the minors in 2011. He's a turd now. Again, I'm not criticizing the move because he's basically free. But people who have any expectation that this is going to lead to something valuable are going to be disappointed.
  19. This is a waste of time because Middlebrooks is a turd. But the price is so minimal I'm not going to criticize it.
  20. This thread made for some interesting retrospective reading. And this is why people need to pump the brakes on condemning (or praising) the Lind trade. Not even seasoned GM's have a crystal ball that tells them how trades will work out. All we can do is wait and see.
  21. It's comical how some in thread are ripping the trade like they know something that David Sterns doesn't. Get over yourself. You have no clue what the true value of Adam Lind was to all of the interested GM's. I'm pretty sure that David Sterns does. At the end of the day there's no way we can truly know if this was a good trade or a bad one until about 5 years goes by. Even then we still won't know what Adam Lind's value really was.
  22. I'm more than happy to give David Stern the benefit of the doubt there. I'm pretty sure he knows the value of Adam Lind better than me (or any of the posters on this board).
  23. If I'm a Cubs fan I'm glad that Starlin Castro is gone. Drunk and immature is no way go through the major leagues. But I figured they would fill 2B with Javier Baez. I don't get expending 4/56 on a 35 year old when you have a premium young player already on the roster.
  24. When MLB limits the amount of money that teams can make they should limit salaries.
  25. 2 year deal? Nice deal for the Cubs. Very low risk and a fairly good upside. Arrieta Lester Lackey Hammel Hendricks That's a pretty good rotation and they might still sign another big time pitcher this winter.
