  1. Sounds like Counsell. Or Dustin Pedroia. I'm not saying he's the second coming of Dustin Pedroia but you can name scrappy players who are stud MVP-types as well.
  2. The stars fell into place on this trade so far. Davis has played well (after a poor start), Will Smith has been a stud, and Aoki has been a disappointment for the Royals.
  3. The Brewers are stuck with Rickie Weeks this year but going forward it should not be difficult to find a decent 2B/3B right handed bat who can hit lefties well. Bonus points if that person can also play SS in a pinch. Personally, I'd rather have a strict platoon than to force Gennett into hitting against lefties and doing it poorly. Embrace the platoon.
  4. I don't care. Doug Melvin can always find a right handed 2B who can take on the lefties in a platoon situation. Platoons (properly used) are not a bad thing.
  5. He was traded for less than a bag of baseballs.
  6. I really don't see it as a problem to not properly pronounce a fairly meaningless street in the Milwaukee area. To say "he's batting point three hundred twenty five" is much more a problem for a baseball reporter. I must say I really don't get her employment. She's not smooth on camera. She doesn't appear to have any depth of understanding of baseball. And she's not good looking enough to make up for the first two deficiencies.
  7. Are you talking about the street?
  8. Cuddyer just broke his shoulder so he's out.
  9. They play once a week. Big difference.
  10. C'mon. Perfect time for Wang to pull a Judge Smails. Oooh, oooh, oooh my leg! Followed by a stint on the DL.
  11. I get why the current rules benefit a HS player. But I don't get how they benefit MLB teams at all and they make the rules.
  12. Question: Why is that MLB drafted players can choose to not sign with the team that drafted them and return to (or go to) college? In both the NFL and NBA if you declare for the draft, college is no longer an option. Why isn't this the case for baseball?
  13. They are not signing all 3. They might not even be able to sign 2 out of 3.
  14. Yuni could take Wang's spot and not hurt the team. That assumes that Yuni pitches and does not hit or play the field.
  15. Is the BA/Rock coverage being broadcast nationally somewhere? I found it odd BA would tell us how far Appleton is from Milwaukee. I clicked over to the MLB Network and they have the A's/Yankees game on.
  16. Don't blame Wang for getting rocked. He should be pitching in high A ball, not the majors. Blame Doug Melvin.
  17. You're not a fan of the PGA Tour I take it.
  18. I raise those questions because what the Brewers are attempting to do is so amazingly without precedent. I won't post in this thread anymore and just let Wang answer our questions. At the end of the season everyone will know how much he helped or hurt the team. And at the end of his career we'll find out if he's the second coming of Johan Santana or another lefthander who amounted to not much. I'm not a gambler, but if I was I'd be putting my money on the latter. I just hope this bizarre experiment doesn't cost the Brewers any games this year.
  19. So you're comparing a 1st round (8th overall) draft pick to Wang?
  20. Please tell me you're not comparing a rookie pitcher whose only professional experience is pitching one season of minor league Rookie ball to someone who had a lengthy track record of being an excellent relief pitcher in the majors. Which of these two pitchers is more likely to become a useful pitcher during the season in question? It seems that the pro-Wang crowd wants to gloss over the fact that it is virtually unprecedented that a team would carry someone with this little experience on a big league roster. Pitching in major league baseball is really, really hard and usually requires a number of years in the minors even for elite prospects--(which Wang is not).
  21. I'm not looking for a "lights out" last man in the bullpen. I'm looking for someone with an ERA below, say, 6.00. That's not a lot to ask. I would have no problem taking a chance on Wang if he could actually get some big league hitters out. But we've seen so far this season that he can't. And when you look at the historical odds he is facing (i.e., what other pitcher in baseball history has pitched effectively in the majors with only one season of Rookie ball under his belt), I think it is extremely doubtful that Wang will be anything but a dumpster fire when coming out of the bullpen this season. Does that disqualify Rob Wooten now too? 7.71 ERA right now over a slightly larger tiny sample size. I don't expect Rob Wooten will be on the roster for very long. When pitchers not named "Wang" suck, they get sent down or released.

  23. A guy with enough talent and 0 days minor league experience will be more "qualified" than a guy with 10 years of minor league experience and mediocre talent. I'm not saying Wang is Stephen Strasburg, but the fact that he is still on the roster proves that the Brewers front office and Brewers talent evaluators think he is either valuable enough to keep on the roster and/or stash for the rest of the season. So really there is no arguing with the basic fact that all of us here on this board do not have the same level of expertise or access to dispute that judgment. And I could cite to you all of the teams that passed on Wang in the Rule 5 draft because they decided it wasn't worth the time and money to put a guy with one year in the minors playing Rookie ball on their 25 man roster. Including the Chicago Cubs who are going to suck this year, need pitching, and are run by two of the brightest minds in baseball in Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer. Even to the Cubs, Wang wasn't worth it.
  24. The only thing that's idiotic is that you continue to spew this nonsense. It's just not true and it's been flat out proven to you. Rule 5 picks kept on Major League Rosters since 2002*(WHO MADE THE PLAYOFFS). And god knows some of these are truly poorly run organizations. Like Boston when they won their WS, or the Cards or A's. 2012 Orioles, Ryan Flaherty, INF 2011 Diamondbacks, Joe Paterson, LHP 2011 Phillies, Michael Martinez, INF 2010 Phillies, David Herndon, RHP 2005 Red Sox, Adam Stern, OF 2004 Cardinals, Hector Luna, INF 2004 Astros, Willy Taveras, OF 2004 Red Sox, Lenny DiNardo, RHP 2003 Athletics, Mike Neu, RHP 2002 Athletics, Jason Grabowski, INF I'm also curious what exactly you think the worst guy on a teams BP should be? What's your expectation? Not to mention your assumption that Wang can't get guys out after 4 outings, the last of which the defense absolutely killed him starting with Herrera getting turned around on a routine FB and immediately followed up by a GB eating up Gennett that led to 3 runs. Riddle me this Batman, how many of those Rule 5 players had just one year of minor experience? And then add the fact that Wang's minor league experience was in Rookie ball. He 100% is not qualified to be on a MLB roster. Period. The Brewers don't trust him to get anywhere near a game that is competitive. Pitchers you have zero confidence using in any meaningful game should not be on the roster. And I'd bet none of those Rule 5 pitchers had an ERA of 15.00
