  1. A very similar statement could be made with Hart. Hart will be 32 before opening day next season. He is coming off surgeries on both of his knees while missing all of last year. He is likely limited to 1B at this point and even if healthy, is likely a middle of the pack 1B at best going forward. He will likely cost millions of dollars (~4-5M?). Corey Hart has an OPS+ of 130, 130, and 120 at the major league level from 2010-2012. That counts for a lot. Sure, he could be done due to his knees but at least he has a record of success at the MLB level to point to. Gamel does not.
  2. No. Yuni plays for the Royals in even years. Whew! That's a relief. So I'm assuming that no one claimed Taylor Green?
  3. Are one of these precious roster spots being held by one certain Yuniesky Betancourt?
  4. That's not true. The Cubs wanted him and so did the Red Sox (who had just fired Terry Francona). There was a competition between the Cubs and Red Sox and the Cubs "won." I never understood the interest by either team because Dale never seemed to me to be a forward thinking manager who embraces statistical analysis and Jamesian managing philosophies. But then maybe that's why he's out in Chicago.
  5. And Yuni starts game 162 as well. And takes of the Oh-fer. Finishes the season with a sizzling .595 OPS. I hope I have witnessed Yuni's last plate appearance as a Brewer. But I don't trust Doug Melvin enough to be confident that's the last we ever see of Yuni B.
  6. Yuni starting at 3B tonight. 0 for 3 as of this writing.
  7. Payback for McCann. I bet he's wishing he had been suspended like GoGo:
  8. I can't fathom how McCann was neither ejected nor suspended. The whole situation blew out of control because he literally stood in the baseline and wouldn't let Gomez touch the plate. For what it's worth Boers and Bernstein on WSCR were ripping McCann and the Braves announcers for being complete tools.
  9. Who are "the guys on ESPN" you speak of?
  10. In the starting lineup again. The good thing is that this season is so far gone I just laugh when I see him on the field. I'm convinced that Doug Melvin lost a bet that required him to keep Yuni on the roster all season.
  11. This is Doug Melvin's fault too. It's his responsibility to step in and tell RR to get Segura regular rest. Like when Nationals GM Mike Rizzo shut down Stephen Strasburg last season or certain pitchers are put on an innings limit.
  12. The marquee team in baseball has John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman doing radio. Yikes. That has to be a cruel joke on New Yorkers. Edit - And Michael Kay doing TV play-by-play. You can't win if you love the Yankees.
  13. Does anyone know how many people he called? If it's something like 12, I'd say it's nothing more than a publicity stunt. If it's hundreds then I will be impressed.
  14. Second guessing drafts from 9-10 years ago is as easy as shooting fish in a barrel.
  15. Has anyone heard Doug Melvin explain why he's still on the roster? Though I can already predict the answer: He can play all of the infield positions, he's got some "pop" from the right side, and he's a good clubhouse guy. Thankfully the team isn't going anywhere so it's not like Yuni B prevented them from making the playoffs or anything--but this is nuts.
  16. I saw this coming a mile away. He's played 133 of 137 games. Around the all-star break I suggested that the Brewers give him more time off. They haven't and the results are predictable. Keep in mind that Segura has never played as much baseball as he has in the last year and a half. He played last season up through the end of September and then played Winter Ball. Not much time off. Hopefully this winter he skip winter ball but I doubt he will.
  17. Edit - I am an idiot.
  18. The Brewers aren't getting anything useful back for 1 month of John Axford. But they do get to free up some money to cover the $10 vouchers.
  19. According to Joe Posanski, at the conclusion of the season Yuni B will become the first player in 100 years to have a negative WAR 6 seasons in a row. He's currently at -1.4. I think Doug Melvin is treating this as some kind of inside joke. Or perhaps he lost a bet or something.
  20. .232 OBP, .600 OPS and still starting games. This is beyond incredible.
  21. People are upset with his "apology" because he is continuing to lie. We all know it. The truth will come out and he will once again be discredited as a cheater and liar. If you believe him you're welcome to your opinion. I do, however, have some investments I'd like to sell you. You will triple your money. I promise.
  22. I don't trust a single word the guy says. So to answer your question: yes. If you want to believe him that's your business.
  23. So who came out of the woodwork in 2012 to call him out for lying? He said he was 100% innocent.
