  1. so, because I can't quite read the frustration level of the posters here in this topic, I'll ask this: which is worse--all the snow this winter or all the rain this spring?
  2. the thing that struck me as "interesting" was how fast the jockey dismounted from Big Brown and took everything off him (saddle, silks, etc.) and patted him as if to say, "Good job. Now go back to the farm, you hack!" and then abruptly turned and walked away. You usually don't see them dismount and take the stuff off the horse so fast, it was kind of comical to me.
  3. let's see . . . The Brewers lost . . . . I'm sick (pretty sure it's pnemonia, given to me by a kid that sneezed on me while on our school trip to a D-Backs game last weekend) . . . . I'm on vacation. I'm not supposed to be sick. As an aside, however, I got to the Urgent Care Center too late this evening, so we did end up meeting up with friends, as planned, to go cosmic bowling (and some drinking, too). I had a few beers (to fit in with others) but pretty much sipped them (because I know I shouldn't drink when sick). But I now sort of know how Michael Jordan felt that one night he was deathly ill and still poured in 30+ points against the Jazz (?) in the finals a while back, as I bowled probably the game of my life--192! I'm a 125-ish average!
  4. summer vacation starts today!!!! So, hopefully, the Crew will come out swinging and start my off-time from work with a bang. It doesn't help, though, that I'm sick as a dog and haven't enjoyed much of anything during the last week with students. GO BREWERS!!!! (I may be watching but I might not be comprehending until I'm better!) I'm off to take a nap. Hope I wake up in four hours.
  5. this really isn't saying much, to me, since the NL Central teams (besides the Cubs) are only a handful of games above/below .500. Sure, the NL West has been a HUGE disappointment so far, but somebody from that division will get better; Arizona is NOT going to just run away with the division (and even they are only 4 games over the .500 mark.) To me, the entire NL is pretty weak this year through the 1/3 pole.
  6. I don't have much of a problem with stocking up on pitchers. I keep reading on the boards and other places on the internet about how the Brewers don't seem to have any quality arms in the minors. Well, maybe we're trying to rectify that. I like the plan, if it is indeed the plan.
  7. I think it is safe to say that Detroit should take somebody to help their team for a long time at a position of need. Sure, Brandon Inge is solid at the hot corner for us and Mr. Dombrowski has his eye on obtaining Miguel Cabrera sometime in the future (he just loves the guy and knows that he'd be perfect for his club as a 1B or DH as he gets older/bigger), but I think I have to recommend probably the best pure hitter remaining on the board right now. Detroit Tigers select 3B Alex Gordon.
  8. well, it all started from last night's "late" slide by Crisp at 2nd base. I'm kind of glad to see that the Rays are not being pushovers anymore. And the "big boys" are kind of perturbed about it (Yankees in Spring Training, Red Sox today). edit: by the way, the video is HIGHLY likely to get pulled from youtube any time now.
  9. a lot of people discredit Dempster as a starter because they have completely forgot that he was a very good starter for the Marlins back in the day. It seems like eons ago but it really has only been 5 years since he's been a regular starter (2003 with CIN). However, it's been 8 years since his very good year of 2000 with FLA so many people think of his injury history and the fact that he's been pretty much a reliever since his injuries and can't comprehend that he's a viable starter. He is surprising me, that's for sure. Can he keep it up? I think he can. He's bound for a letdown at SOME point but how big of a letdown is yet to be determined. Also, he hasn't pitched more than 100 innings since 2003, either, so maybe he'll start running out of gas in late summer? Maybe not/who knows?
  10. yeah, but Randy Johnson vs. McClung didn't turn out too bad, did it? The Brewers do not play a team that is more than 4 games over .500 (currently) until July 22, at St. Louis. This is just amazing to me.
  11. Of course, this assumes that the Brewers are still winning, too. If not, it's all for naught. But otherwise, you are right.
  12. I'll jump on the bandwagon and say 3-3 also. 2-1 in Denver 1-2 in Houston, where, somehow, Craig Biggio will manage to hit a cheap fly ball into the Crawford Boxes to win both games. Oh . . . wait . . . . huh? He retired? . . . . . . okay, then it'll be somebody else that's a punch-and-judy hitter. How about Brad Ausmus?
  13. I'll be honest, games one and two we synced up the mlb audio with our tivo and listened to Uecker and Jim. The FSN-WI broadcast is blacked out whenever we play the D-Backs so Brian and Bill are not an option for this series (which does make me wonder how these guys on the D-back fan boards were able to rag on Brian and Bill--they should have been blacked out, too). Today's game we recorded and kind of Fast forwarded through until the good parts, although we did watch the last 2 innings live when we came home from school (half-day) for lunch. Some drunk guys were giving real Wisconsin pride by bugging the FSN-AZ sideline guy (Todd Walsh) while he was doing a report, asking if he could say hi to some guys in Minnesota, totally blitzed and unaware that this was not the Brewers sideline reporter. Then, Daron and Grace went on about it and how much "fun" those guys were having. They also kept doing the "reports" from the Miller Brewing Company and making comments throughout the series (apparently) about drinking beer, etc. Stuff like, "wow, half a million cases of Miller beer are produced every day? How much of that does Daron and Grace get?" And the usual "Daron likes to eat" business, which, by the way, he has been packing on the pounds, in my opinion.
  14. I liked how FSN-AZ put up the scrolling graphic after Hart's inside-the-park job but instead of it saying "HOME RUN HART (7)" it said "GRAND SLAM BRANYAN (4)". Little did they know that they totally gave away the ending to the inning, short of the "grand slam" part.
  15. just an aside, if the Brewers move spring training to Florida, will they have to rename the Cactus League Nachos to Grapefruit League Nachos? That just doesn't go together at all. Grapefruit League Fruit Stand/Fruit Cup I could see. Nachos? No.
  16. looks like a pretty good start today. Ugh, then Parra struggles in the 3rd. Come on, Brewers, I want to have fun watching the game at work today (half-day of school).
  17. D-Backs trying the ol' pitcher batting 8th. But with Owings it is a GREAT idea. Woogie, yesterday I commented on the updated graphics, but now it's almost information overload. I love it!
  18. wow, the D-Backs are probably my 2nd favorite team and I can't believe we sit only 1 game behind them right now. The season sure is wacky. C'mon Crew! Finish them! 8-1 home stand! YOU CAN DO IT!
  19. I'm not sure of the pitch count, but I'm guessing this 2 inning appearance will knock Shouse out of commission for tomorrow. BALL GAME!
  20. when it rains it pours. So tomorrow, we'll struggle to do anything in the day game to close out the homestand. Man, I hope not. LISTEN TO THAT CROWD!
  21. nice to get some runs while the pitching does it's job, huh? Nice long ball, Prince, too! Getting back home really has helped him get in a groove, as expected.
  22. hey, I'll take some more insurance runs. Another nice inning. Come on, bullpen! Do it for me! Shouse? Mota? Tavarez?
  23. I appreciate the aggressiveness of Sveum but Hardy is too slow to send on a ball like that. He should have been a dead duck (and he would have been, had Montero held onto the ball.) Heck, even JJ's slide was weak.
  24. hey, hey! He didn't throw it away! Of course, Torres isn't on the mound, so . . . . .
