  1. maybe Gagne made the "don't deserve to be the closer" announcement to the media because he wanted to ensure that Yost would decide to take him out of the roll and guarantee a day off for himself. Gagne learned that Ned would overuse him so he tried to nip it in the bud before Ned tried to get him out there for 5 straight days or something like that. Okay, I'm just messing around, but I wouldn't doubt it one bit if it turned out to be true.
  2. what about for laptops? I've wondered about this in the past. If I buy a drive for my laptop from newegg, will it fit in my laptop? Are all drives compatible with all laptops (assuming they fit the slot size)? My drive seems to break all the time and, even though they're still under warranty, eventually they won't.
  3. If I were being chased by some wild animal (bear, coyote, wild cat, etc.), would it do any good to spray mace in it's face? Does it have the same/any effect on animals? Or would it make them more enraged?
  4. why would we want to show Sheets to the Red Sox? I'd rather have that "element of surprise" in October when they are seeing Sheets for the first time. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. Yes, I got it. NARF! The baseball episode is a classic.
  6. yes, I'm quoting myself. It just dawned on me that I am Ted Simmons. Brian and Bill were talking about how Ted always seems to answer questions with another question or more. I ask questions a whole lot more often than just giving an answer. Suddenly, I feel real old. And just a bit weirded out.
  7. that's the thing, would you, as the manager/GM, know this is 100% true going into the season? Would the player keep it a secret (re: the deal with the devil)? If he told you about it would you, as the manager/GM, believe him?
  8. I'm guessing it was finally time for Cameron to take a day off--whether it was his choice or Ned's choice is up to discussion (my money's on Ned's choice). At least this game is on television.
  9. close, but no cigar
  10. schlitz, I'm extremely jealous that you are living near Moab. I love that area. I would move there in a heartbeat if I could get a job. You job sounds pretty neat, too.
  11. I don't know either. I've never had to worry about it in the past. I can't believe we've got over 2 hours before the game. What am I going to do before then?
  12. I'm really hoping that the walk-off win and the release of all that pent-up energy will invigorate the team to a big 12-2 win on National TV and, perhaps, get this team to loosen up and start playing up to expectations a bit more. Otherwise, I agree, it was one win. Whoop-de-do. But it was a huge win.
  13. On both the east coast and west coast FOX stations I get on Directv, I get Tigers/Yankees. Ugh. Guess MLB.tv will have it? or not?
  14. another RBI hit to the opposing pitcher. Ugh. McClung is up.
  15. well, hopefully a couple of months will get him straightened out. If not, he's probably done with baseball. I guess I wouldn't mind seeing him back on the big club if he goes down for 2-3 months and puts up lights out numbers, (re-)discovers his stuff (i.e. movement on pitches), and gets things right in his head. Oh, and he has to promise to pitch like 2005 when he returns, too.
  16. just checked my bank account during my lunch break and discovered that my $1200 was deposited this morning. Hooray! I still gotta wonder what the problem was for other Turbotax users.
  17. hmm, I'll have to check that out, too, jaybird. I used the online version of Turbotax and had been wondering all week why it wasn't deposited earlier like others had. The government had no problem depositing my refund in February. I wonder why there may be a hangup now.
  18. music teacher. Baseball fan (kind of a job, I guess). Diamond Mind Commissioner. Husband.
  19. I think robin hit it pretty squarely (hey, you should be the batting coach!) by saying that it seems to be the same thing no matter who the coach is. The coach can't program the players like a robot, to use my wife's term, to hit the ball squarely and only swing at good pitches. It takes discipline from the hitters. Whacking batting practice pitches all over the place does not make a hitter. He must do it in game situations. The hitting coach can't go out there and do the hitting for him. He can, however, remind the player of what they've worked on. He can watch video and point out flaws. He can work on things during BP with the player, either on the field or in the cage below the stands. But once the game starts, the onus is on the player to do the job. If he can't then you maybe need to do more drastic changes (trade, bench, demotion, etc.). But I don't know what else the hitting coach can do. Getting rid of him, I don't see, is part of the solution. Sure, that's what teams have done throughout baseball history but does it really accomplish anything? That'd be an interesting study to see. ennder, I appreciate those statistics that you posted. Is it possible that the August and September numbers are maybe inflated a bit not just because of the warmer weather but also because of the diluted pitching staffs throughout the NL when rosters expand and teams bring up marginal pitchers to work games? It would make sense to me. The numbers rising with the warmer weather makes perfect sense and I believe that I've seen stats similar to that posted here or I read them in an article. I would think that the numbers have to be skewed just a bit, though, due to teams bringing up AA and AAA lifers (34-year-olds, etc.) and young guys that just don't have it and get their cup of coffee and depart into baseball obscurity with a career 6.75 ERA.
  20. crew2323, I seem to remember hearing about and then seeing it with my own eyes that Prince was specifically working on going opposite field during Spring Training. So I don't know what has happened in that department with regards to Mr. Fielder. He certainly hasn't been taking the ball to the left side too often, and when he does, it's a lazy pop fly to left. Or the (very) weak grounder to the 2nd base area.
  21. this is something that I have wanted to do for a few years now. Unfortunately, there is no way my wife will be biking the 3 miles to work for a week. Not because she's fat and lazy--she's not. But she does sweat very easily. Since we are both teachers, getting sweaty going to school is not that great of an idea. Our elementary school where we work does not have showers or anything for us to clean up in either. So, short of buying AXE body spray by the gross, it won't be happening for her. (and yes, I know that AXE is for men. Do they make a body spray for women?) As for me, I could probably do it as I don't sweat much in this dry Arizona heat. But if she's driving anyways, I might as well join her. I get enough exercise as it is and I don't need my good clothes getting all dirty on the way to school either. I still think this is a great idea, though. Maybe I can make it work. I'll see what I can do.
  22. I can't watch the game until I get home (thank you, Tivo--although maybe I won't be so thankful) due to our school's Route 66 themed Book Fair Family Night/Car Show. Ugh. I have to stay until 7 pm local time, which is about when the game is over. Guess I'll be sneaking back to my classroom a few times to check things out here and on Gameday. GO (HOME) BREWERS!!!
  23. ah, I see. I guess I was misinterpreting that part. Russ, I understood the 2-1 reference though.
