  1. yay! my procrastination pays off! Seriously, if I would have checked the site before lunch, I would have known about this and contributed. I know you suspended things, Brian, but do we still need money for anything that I can contribute to? I can't send via paypal until I get home from work, but still, I'd like to.
  2. that's 65 wins for our starters. Can our bullpen come up with over 20 wins again? Might be asking for alot.
  3. Miller Lite for me. Probably shouldn't be playing my league's baseball games right now (on Diamond Mind Baseball), but oh well!
  4. I see the need for another starter, but Jon Lieber?!?! I'd rather go with the youngsters.
  5. I find it humorous that "Jon Lieber" and "sweepstakes" can be uttered in the same sentence.
  6. Randy Johnson, for some reason, does add interest in the Diamondbacks. I remember one off day, I went to work with my cousin, who works in media relations with the D-Backs. In the span of 8 hours, he must have fielded about 100 phone calls from fans who were wondering on which days Randy Johnson was scheduled to pitch. I guess the ticket office had my cousin's number to transfer any team related questions like that. Granted, this was 2001-2002 ish, when he was really in his AZ hey-day, but still. I would anticipate it being like that again. He really did bring in 10,000 extra fans when he pitched. It was amazing.
  7. I agree that you can teach the "three R's" in other subjects. I do in my music classes. It may not be much, but I do touch on some things in social studies and the science of sound. Schools pretty much in AZ, though, just drop the other stuff, since AZ is so low on the education totem pole. As a former student in WI (grade school and high school), I see the difference in educational values all the time. It is night and day from Wisconsin. I'm not saying that the Wisconsin School System is perfect--I'm sure they have their share of parents that don't care, do drugs, etc. like mothership talked about earlier. But it is much more prevalent down here. The state economy doesn't help. And our town is a transient town, being right on the interstate and people moving here to look for a job. Then a month later, they pull their kids out of school and move again because they can't pay the rent. If I've seen it once, I've seen it 10,000 times.
  8. mothership is right on about the No Child Left Behind law, or as my wife and I like to call it, the "No Teachers With Freetime for Themselves" law. Teaching to the test is so prevalent in AZ it's not even funny. Every year when we return from holiday break in January, we are told the same speech of basically dropping science, social studies, art, etc. in the classroom and focus on the things in the test. Pathetic.
  9. I can't believe you started a game thread for this. Why not just bring up the archived thread and post in that? For the "Classic" games, okay, I can understand. I'm still at work. Is this game on Directv or not? I saw casey called DTV about it.
  10. I haven't checked the list yet (blocked at work) but aren't every team's list full of "He could be a legit #2 starter" or "He's got great tools" kind of comments? Does any team's list have comments that say, "This is the best that the {team name} can do?" or "This guy will be lucky to make it to the majors" kind of comments? And I don't mean just 1 or 2 guys, I'm talking over half the list reads like a rejection list of prospects.
  11. I guess now I have a reason to read the Cirillo thread
  12. how do we know when we're up for renewal? I didn't see it in my control panel thingy.
  13. colbyjack, very nice with the logo! Wish I could come but, alas, I'll be at home in AZ. Maybe I'll see some of you at spring training.
  14. would you put Kim into the rotation or the bullpen? He's been notorious for being "grouchy" when in the bullpen, as he'd rather be a starter. He finally got that chance full-time last season and did alright.
  15. yay! 5 days off of work! Drink, drink, and drink (while I string up Christmas Lights) Not going on the roof this year, though.
  16. If the Sox do give a low offer and Matsuzaka doesn't sign, the Sox get their posting fee back. But what happens then? Does he get to post again? Does he just go back to Japan?
  17. AJHawk50, Nice signature! But I thought we weren't allowed to do those. Anybody help out here? Otherwise, I'll make one for myself.
  18. Brian, that's what I do. I use character names from movies or I make them up off the top of my head. Sometimes, I get silence; sometimes they ask who that is and I say, "It's a write-in candidate". They usually thank me for their time and hang up pretty quick.
  19. sounds like troll work, based on my past experiences with that board.
  20. I read that "Moose on the Loose" title and the first thought I had was Moose Haas coming out of retirement. Or at least a pitching coach assignment. Carry on with your normal message board activity.
  21. But Dellucci is a gamer, a fighter, all that stuff Yost likes. He was the man in Arizona and has had some decent years (in platoon roles) since. I really wonder how he'd do as a full-time player (i.e. hitting vs. RHP) as he seemed to do okay back in the day (haven't looked up stats, yet. Just going on memory). Speaking of ex-Rangers, we could get Oddibe McDowell and David Hulse. Wasn't Hulse on the Brewers at one time anyways?
  22. Braun is doing well. It's about time one of our prospects lights up the Fall League and is a leader in stats and prospect watches. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see him get a significant look in spring training now.
  23. I would keep both, also. Isn't Crawford up for arbitration soon (this year?) and free-agency in a year or two? Why trade a potential Verlander (minus the 100mph stuff) for a guy we might have for only a year or two?
  24. Is he really 24 years old? How accurate is that? Could he be younger? Older? Regardless, great signing! Finally pulled the trigger on a player that other teams wanted. Yay us! If he is 24, I hope Yost gives him a good looksie during spring training.
  25. also, wasn't Markakis a player that the Orioles really didn't hold all that highly (not highly touted) and just made the most of his opportunity? If so, I'd be very averse to trading a Ben Sheets for a guy who played well for one year and could slump back down to nothing next year. And why on earth would the Rockies trade Jeff Francis? They finally got some good pitching in the upper atmosphere known as Denver. Why, after so many years of futility in the starting pitching department, would they want to dismantle that pitching?
