  1. There is no way to know for sure, it depends where the cutoff is going to be set when calculated in a few years. The goal would be that at the end of 2021 his total number of service days would be outside of the top 22% of players with between two and three seasons of MLB service. Below are the past cutoffs for number of service years and days... 2018: 2.134 2017: 2.123 2016: 2.131 2015: 2.130 2014: 2.133 2013: 2.122 2012: 2.140 2011: 2.146 2010: 2.122 2009: 2.139 On June 1st there will be a 121 service days remaining in 2019. That would be lower than any number in the past decade, and likely safe from the Super Two cutoff. Tuesday, May 21st would be 132 service days remaining which is very close to the typical cutoff. This coming Monday would be 140 service days remaining and would very likely be on the wrong side of the Super Two cutoff. Thank you for the time. I appreciate it. I wonder if it was this complicated when we brought Braun up.
  2. When does he get past the super two cutoff? Has anybody calculated that?
  3. Can Jesus be sent down to AAA or is he out of options? It’s painful watching how lost he is.
  4. Can anyone describe his repertoire? I haven’t seen him.
  5. Yeah he seems to be chasing off speed pitches down and away a lot. I’m surprised to see him chase so often out of the zone. His confidence used to be extraordinary.
  6. He was moved promptly from A to A+. I’m not going to be shocked if he’s in AA before long. Great draft pick with a high reward profile at a risk we can live with given the upside. Exactly the kind of pick I like.
  7. Good one. It’s only 5 innings but he’s got a microscopic WHIP and OPS against.
  8. The problem with clustering games against certain teams is you bring more luck into it. For example, you can catch a team where it is nosediving and take advantage of it while your competitor may catch them on a hot streak. If you space it out, relative hotness will be closer to evening out.
  9. Keuchel is a nice pitcher who I like but I don’t see him as a $20M player at this stage.
  10. Bubba Derby and Nate Griep also come to mind. Griep is repeating AA so let’s see how he comes along. It’s too bad that southpaw Quintin Torres-Costa — and his sweeping slider — had to have TJ surgery. Regarding Griep, here’s an assessment by the big kahuna last (2018) spring. https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2018/03/26/minor-league-pitchers-josh-uhen-nate-griep-make-favorable-impressions-brewers-camp/453653002/
  11. The beat writers are in the tank for the team. That’s fine, this is Milwaukee and not New York City where the media is adversarial.
  12. Can we get Gio for one year, six million? I’d be for that if Keuchel isn’t going to happen.
  13. Boras is lost and rudderless in the new environment where Ivy League general managers do a better job of recognizing the true contract value of players rather than overpaying for past performance, which was the norm for forty years. He’s notorious for having his assistants prepare fancy binders of players’ portfolios but that isn’t going to be consistent with today’s environment where you have to justify future performance. Some of these absurd contracts, like Pujols’, just kill the player’s association. They miss a bright guy like Marvin Miller. They don’t think with foresight and haven’t adapted. They aren’t going to be able to make a collusion case when the data kills them.
  14. I am 100% in favor of a like button. I’ve thought this for awhile but figured it wasn’t feasible here. I’ve seen it in other boards and so many users use it that I believe it’s considered useful and valuable. So often, I am ready to post something and lo and behold, someone already captured my thought process so I stay quiet. But it might be useful to know that folks agree with a certain point which reinforces the idea and sort of makes it stronger. The other way is if someone writes a brilliant post outside the box, and there’s no way to pat them on the back. Now, we are in the dark these ways, so if feasible, I hope we can go with it. Overall, I think the feature would gin up more energy. Some sites add a confused or disappointed button, but my gut feel is that might be counterproductive but I’m open to it too. Just my two cents.
  15. I wonder where he’d get assigned. Maybe Wisconsin with a chance to move quickly?
  16. Interesting observation. Good catch. I know I’ve seen that before, I think mainly with relievers. But I’m drawing a blank on a good example for a starter. Do you recall any starters who did this for any appreciable amount of time? I’m curious.
  17. That’s a heck of a repertoire, especially if he comes through with the change up. To me he has a good chance of continuing the tradition of success by drafting more advanced pitchers after the first couple of rounds, when you look at Woodruff, Burnes, Zach Brown, and Webb.
  18. I like the move for a variety of reasons. It gives more flexibility in the infield lineups. And Moose is a fiery guy who has won and knows how to win. The fact that he wanted to be in Milwaukee is great news. At one point he was linked to St. Louis. That would have bugged me big time. On a one year deal, the risk is minimal. Kudos to Mark A for spending the dough.
  19. They should penalize the flopper. If that’s already a rule, call it. I get that its subjective, but it needs policed out of the game. It’s terrible basketball to watch. College is hard to watch these days as it is compared with the heyday. The NBA has an infinitely better product.
  20. Awesome news. They don’t release figures, but I hope he got a big raise. Milwaukee is an incredible baseball town. It’s something like 30th in market size and 12th in attendance.
  21. Roseanne Barr would be perfect for playing her.
  22. Count me in the group dismayed at the “Hall of Very Good.” Baines, Lee Smith, Mussina. Very good IMO, not Hall of Fame. I wonder if the steroid thing is helping push through guys who would be further down the list. On MLB network, they talked about Larry Walker (face palm) and Curt Schilling. I guess if you let Mussina in for post season success you could do the same with Schilling. Same story. But Walker? Come on now. I think the NFL does a better job policing all that.
  23. Jacob Nix would be a guy I would be interested in if the two teams try to pair up on Anderson.
  24. Low salary. Only 26, significant more control, lefty. Stearns and company obviously felt they couldn’t find a player with that profile without giving up prospect capital. Rather than dealing, say, Joe Gray, they sent a fairly high draft pick. Personally, I’d rather not have made the deal, and I hope it doesn’t become a habit. But, it looks fairly obvious why they felt they needed to do it.
  25. MadBum is a mystery, wrapped in a riddle https://deadspin.com/an-attempt-at-untangling-the-legend-of-madison-bumgarne-1795053064
