  1. Sorry if I missed this mentioned earlier, but what would it take for Jay Jackson and his re-birth to be put back on the 40 man this year? His numbers are great now.
  2. Chris Dula was signed as a free agent and the boards went nuts over his 99mph heater. Sadly, he is sitting on 20+ walks/9 and an ERA over 20 as well. Clayton Andrews is the anti-Dula. He is Tim Collins small and a pocket lefty that might not be able to actually hang a curve up (I kid). His 2.16 ERA, 1.080 WHIP, and 15.12K/9 are no joke and at 22 he is still young for HiA ball (-1.2yrs below the mean age). Seeing as we lack LHPs and controllable talent is at a premium, doesn't he deserve a promotion soon? Can't he be seen as a player on the rise, a player with top 30 potential...and if not, is it at least partially due to bias? The former DirtBag has the CV to pull it off and I am sure people have been counting him out his whole life... I think he needs a closer look.
  3. Heard two rumors from others...1 ) the Cubs had catcher depth issues and DiPoto asked if Stearns wanted to beat the Cubs best offer before he moved him and 2) Biasi, who we traded to get this catcher, had some issues and he were just moving the pitcher off the roster in a trade vs a dump. Take it with a grain of salt. The observations above about Tuffy's hitting and Nottingham's poor start are solid theories as well.
  4. This is a naive take on MLB Improvement but hear me out--> Part A) Travel roster set at 30/game day roster at 17-20 to speed up game & add the Universal DH. These two moves keep older players in MLB longer and is guaranteed to start MiLB players' clocks faster. Part B) WAR could be the basis for all contracts therefore some shift rule may be needed. AAA and MLB get 500K per year minimum (but I could see lower salaries for AAA if AA and A were boosted and travel/accommodations improved). In MLB, base of 500K$ for year one, then 1mil$ in year 2 and 3, and 2mil$ in years 4+. Additional incentives: +100K$ per .1WAR till 1.0WAR (1 WAR =1.5mil$ for a rookie); +1mil$ per .3WAR till 5.0WAR (5 WAR = 11.5mil$ for a rookie); +1mil$ per .25WAR w/o cap. James Paxton at $9.5mil in 2018 and Mookie Betts over $36 million. BUT Angels and Orioles not burdened by 1B contracts and no need for collusion or strike. Free agency in place after 5 years of service time. No holding players back due to arbitration service time either. Thoughts???
  5. THIS!! I have long said that Hernan is just another version of Marwin, poor man's version, but not that different. Now that Moose is at 2B we can use Hernan to his strengths and not overexpose him the way that Marwin has been revealed here. Good luck to Marwin, but he should be happy to play ball. PS--I fully acknowledge that Marwin carried HOU when they were missing players the year they won it all.
  6. I think he might be good on the Suter Diet if he watched his innings and had Claudio coming in after him. He may get stronger and do well in a league (for now) that doesn't have the DH. Very interesting notes: in Wins 7 0 with a 2.36 ERA in Losses 0 16 with a 6.8 ERA Also OPS by inning 1st inning .841 2nd inning .650 3rd inning .782 4th inning .632 5th inning .691 but left in too long... 6th inning .829 7th inning .872 8th inning 2.500
  7. Hellickson's WHIP belies his SO9 numbers but Boras is his agent. Bucholz has had flexor issues for two years running and seems to be the pitcher version of Tulo Any offer here will look like a what Drew Pomeranz received.
  8. Sometimes players grow up. From http://statsswipe.com/expect-orlando-arcia-2019/ In the first half of the season he was batting below the Mendoza line at .197 and had a mere 28 wRC+ which was bottom 5 in the MLB. BUT, following a brief stint in Triple A, Arcia seemed to have figured things out. In fact, through the final month of the season Arcia had the 9th best wRC+ (116) among shortstops including 3 points better than Manny Machado (hitting .3089 from August 1st through game #163). All the while Arcia was coming through when the Brewers needed him most, at the end of the season in a close division race. In addition he was arguably the most silent best hitter in the post-season slashing .333/.353/.606 in 34 PA over 10 games ... Another side note is that in the 2nd half of the season he hit .276 against breaking pitches compared to .188 in the first half of the season....Brewers would be thrilled to see a repeat of 2017 where he hit .277/.324/.407, but would be satisfied with Steamer’s current projection of .254/.302/.377 with a 1.1 WAR. His increased launch angle may have contributed to his significant increase in BABIP as well... Furthermore, he has continued to hit well during winter league ball, all while still only 24.
  9. He is a poor man's Marwin and a rich man's Yuniesky.
  10. Your numbers are busted. Worst case scenario...Hiura is never ready to go in 2019, Dubon has setbacks, no viable trade prospects to be picked up at the deadline so we rely on the 2018 totals for our platoon: Spang starts 105 games against RHP and slashes .261 .332 .393 .725 HPerez starts 57 games vs LHP and slashes .277 .304 .479 .783 In 2018, they combined to start 162 games and shows what we could have as a dependable #8 in the order all things considered and that .669 at 2B is not completely accurate. PS Dubon has 10 starts at 3B over the years and could get some starts in spring training if we don't pick up Moose or anyone else (TShaw moving to 2B was more of a shocker than this nugget.)
  11. Really glad someone else brought this page of B-R.com up...and someone else just added to this idea by posting gains at C and Arcia doing better at SS. For all the talk about 2B getting a makeover...the most gains that can be made are at C, SS, and pitching. Take away Dan Jennings 71 GR, reduce Taylor Williams' GR number/add Guerra & Claudio in relief and this negative WAA (one slot above avg) in the pen should go up. A full season of Burnes and Woodruff should help wherever they are slated to pitch from. JNelson starting from Day 1 could push lesser arms to AAA and further improve the SP WAA too. Gamel led a decent group of SEA PH as well. There are improvements that have been made to a playoff team...let's see if our middle infielders are 18/30 and 28/30 again this year without any further trades.
  12. I would be surprised if you could get both Lowe and their #7 player in the Rays system that had an impressive .832OPS last year at 20 yrs old. I know Pina is on two years of an extraordinarily friendly team deal. I think that two time defensive Ray of the year Ciuffo would be more to their liking...they would be more likely to pull that trigger since Ciuffo already has two suspensions for a drug of abuse. He can be optioned and Kratz could stay up north for another year. Regardless of the catcher of choice...if Lowe comes to MKE then Hiura could be involved in a deal for a true #1 Pina for Tampa young C, BLowe (and therefore Kratz by addition) moreover a guess here... CRay, Hiura, Supak for Kluber, lottery ticket
  13. Not when he does this on the Top 25 Victor Vargas - 4 Zach Clark - 4 Daniel Brown - 4 Eduarqui Fernandez - 4 Miguel Sanchez - 4 Michele Vassalotti - 3 Jorge Ortega - 3 Henry Medina - 2
  14. The Athletic...and sometimes behind the paywall material can be found on reddit
  15. Someone from this list of starters could easily end up in the AA or AAA bullpen. Something I forgot....I have to think that If Nelson comes back anything close to his former self, that Davies and/or Peralta have their options used and spend some time in AAA too with Chacin, ChaseA, FPeralta/Davies, Burnes joining Nelson in the bigs.
  16. Is it going to be Zack Brown, Cameron Roegner, Trey Supak, Aaron Wilkerson and either Derby or Jankins??? Maybe Diplan? ideas?
  17. Breakout-- Miguel Sanchez rhp reliever that no one ever talks about but struck out more than 13/9 with a WHIP of 1.073 at A, AA, AAA...I think he can do more at 24+
  18. Tampa needs a 1b they have the Ji man and newly inked Matt Davidson...and we have Thames on the cheap. Additional players may be added from our side...I was thinking out of options Houser. David Robertson (.800OPS) would be a nice UT, 2B-40, SS-29, 3B-19, LF-4, DH-2, P-1, 1B-1 or since they also have several 2b ready to come up from their farm... Joey Wendle, lefty bat (.789OPS) and current 2b starter and UT (2B-101, 3B-20, LF-16, SS-10, RF-1) might be able to be had as well...on the cheap.
  19. Which would have more value to the Brewers the 2019 #1 pick so late in round 1 or CRay now? Why not just trade a draft pick if people here are hedging on CRay??
  20. I wonder if Toronto Bluejay blogs are having The importance of Cavan Biggio threads since his AA OPS is .887
  21. This time last year it would have been said,"Stop with the Shaw to 2b nonsense. It's not going to happen, nor should it." Yet the Jesus to 3b has already happened for 8 ABs. If you are fishing for more runs and don't have the capital to bring in Realmuto, Grandal, Tulo, Lowrie, et al then this is what creative teams have to do just to get by. Kinda like having openers rather than starters...whatever you have to do to get through that period of the year and get to the playoffs. Maybe this year we don't have openers, we have starters and maybe next year we have players at natural positioning, but this level of creativity is very much in play even for just a few ABs a month.
  22. LAA catching last year was weird and I've long thought there was a buy-low opportunity here for Stearns... LAA had a better catcher WAA than the Brewers last year with 6 catchers getting plate appearances. They have 9 catchers with AA experience or better between the ages of 22-30, but none of them are top 30 prospects.
  23. I mean, speculating is fun and part of a message board of this type but this post is absolute truth. I'll believe it when I see it. Honestly, I think we are just the other team in any equation...solely there to drive the bidding up.
  24. 2018 splits would indicate that he was golden through the order the first time (pitch count 1-25 .200 BA / 1st Plate appearance .208 BA) but struggled in the middle. The 6 times he went into the 7th inning, he got killed. His 1.121 WHIP and his 3.8 WAR seems to indicate that little needs to be changed. Suter had a better WHIP and about the same ERA (4.44 to Minor's 4.18) but his WAR was .5 The stat that jumped out at me (and honestly I don't know if this is just a truism) is Minor's stats when hitters went to right field. Opposite field RHB .306 OPS and Pulled LHB .636 OPS means when the ball went elsewhere the batters were Willie Mays.
  25. SD has a lot of moving parts that could help us today...Chase and his homers are a good fit for Petco, but the return should be more and more immediate. AAllen to catch this year, Naylor to take over for or platoon with Aguilar next year, or any of their relievers that they have available (Strahm cough, cough) would be better headliners and allow those two A ball kids to be thrown in.
