  1. I'm thinking you see money saved offered what value you think that kid is. They say no, you move to next kid with savings make your offer. When you get that 1st to sign, you won't have as much to offer next down the line but you proceed on. Until it's gone. Just remember Brewers spoke with them and that next draft Tampa will draft them lol. If we dont.
  2. On the Payne pick. One of youngest in draft class. Going to need all of those 4years for developing as an OF. The glut of current ML OFs make the timeline work. Comparing Ray at all to Payne doesn't work as he was a college player. One that was 7th on his team that year in OPS. I think Ray had 2 straight good years and going to say the success for Loiusville hyped his ranking far more than it should. I like the poster statement on if the rankings in this draft were 50 players being second tier, drafting one lower of those rank saves money while being in that 2nd tier. Hopefully Payne develops and this draft pick looks genius.
  3. Interesting. Oh I misread Bref/remembered wrong. Vinny Capra is right above Roller and shows 40man. That's who I was intending to say.
  4. Recently returned pitching with 4 straight quality starts. Has 2-3 years remaining on contract 16M each next two guaranteed. Pitching half your games in Colorado your entire career would probably mess with stuff game to game home then away. Numbers on career are a little bit better Away of course. Already 2 of those 4 games pitched 7 innings. Team gets a preview. Offseason pitching lab and he's certainly not going to worse than his career numbers. I'd think the salary would keep Colorado from getting a decent return unless they paid down some of it. His splits also show him a better career 2nd half pitcher. Send Colorado Civale as a payroll counter. Then another Inf/OF type similar what was given up for Civale. I Also wondered here if Ashby straight up would be possible trading some salaries.
  5. Bumb Chris Roller, Kevin Herbet, and Zastryzxy of the 40man. 3 spots right there. Is Ashby out of options for next season? If not the team likely sticks with him vs. Signing off what they'd owe him. Joe Ross is one to move if returning before trade deadline. An add on towards salary dump having a decent year on a bad team.
  6. I just dont get adding a bat with current list of Chourio, Turang, Ortiz, Contreras/Quero future, Mitchell/Frelick, Wilken future. Brewers need the ToR arm potential and can draft a hs bat in future rounds that times well with team need in 3+years.
  7. I see it's high but lowered in basically his 2nd year pitching for Iowa. Read MLB's draft rankings and it tells you his story. Football committ that didn't get the playing time and turned to focus to baseball for 2023. They compared his FB+Slider to Skenes without the control. At 70 grade both. Sound to me like late bloomer with command as they also said Iowa worked on a few things that lead to poor results and Brect fixed himself from that as season progressed. Essentially at 21 he's more like a talented Juco player that the Brewers tend to nab multiples in recent drafts. 14+/k9 this season. I wouldnt understand the not that high when you know worst is a back end RP, and peak is a shade below Skenes.
  8. Read box score but not play by play. Haase hit a 2run RBI in the 1st that was off the 1st RP brought in. The 2Runs were SP's responsibility and not the RP. That's the 3rd hit. But do I credit the 2 runs to the RP side or SP side?
  9. 8.1IP by the Nats bullpen and the Crew not only didn't score but produced just 3 hits? These games are at home right? That's b2b games of snooze fest after 1 inning scoring. That's been the difference. Late inning comebacks and shutdown relief to the opposite. Blown saves and no offense once through 4th inning.
  10. If Brect isn't a top 8 pick I dunno what anyone needs to see to make him one. He won't be there when Brewers draft. Just compare the ease in the effort to throw that hard compared to Scmidt. With Skenes velo AS success, Brect is off the board earlier. If the draft group isn't all that after 10. I don't get the draft underslot. They have the pool money to pay a top 10 who falls to them. Just please don't select a Catcher. How is it possible I read picking a Catcher in the MLB Draft early? 5th round or later and really international signing/draft is where you should.
  11. Hiura is just bad at defense and bats from the wrong platoon to be worth rostering. If he was lefty like Winker there's enough at bats to give to a no defense player at DH. Adames has the defense ability to stomach his batting, most of the time while being righty. Oh and Paul Skenes if you've been away all day is your NL AS game starting pitcher.
  12. Civale averaging just over 5IP per start. Will take that these days. The ERA jump is tied to HRs given up. Any reduction back to his career norms likely lowers him back to 4ErA. Hope he lasts vs the large group that's now injured. +1 more season team control.
  13. Is Kuechel still on the team? They probably were going to dump him Mitchell who of course suffered an owie before happening
  14. Yeah this has awful forthcoming. At same time, there's likely 1 solid start also coming. Probably an elbow injury on 2nd or 3rd start.
  15. Keep coming here for good news and am let down with a new Brewer injury. Is it too much to ask for 7-10days without 1 injury?
  16. I've always believed they knew Ashby was a question mark for SP, but having seen Hader/Williams, knew that could be his future. The contract then underpaid his SP upside, and pays closer to expectation as a RP. Maybe one day we'll be answered which outcome.
  17. He's blocked and 3b wasn't along with 1st until Hoskins signed. 3b now looks blocked with Ortiz. You remove Adames and Turang goes to SS, 2b reopens for Black.
  18. Well I just a post in the other thread about Adames. I looked at a FG page that listed SS production from all teams. Try to find the playoff contending teams where SS could use an upgrade. Arizona was a good one. They are 20th in that ranking with below avg batting. Slightly above avg defense. Stats that Adames beats both on above average. You would be eyeing more on prospect end as there are a few I'm seeing with good writeups a year or 3 away. 2b/SS. In mlbs 5-10 ranges. As well as a risky pitcher that was two way at draft but AZ drafted to pitch. At #18 is Caden Grice. Focusing full time pitching could increase his stuff and become a steal. Realize that doesn't improve the pitching situation, but like mentioned, playoff teams arent giving away quality SPs on their ML pitching staff, for the improvement Adames gives. Btw, look at last year's ROY Carroll, #5 MVP vote getter plus AllStar. .611 OPS in 305PAs. Very tough year that an Adames clubhouse presence might get Carroll rolling the last 2+months of season. Giants are another team but their #1 prospect is having a good start to his SS career. Problem may be solved. The Braves are getting that above/below 700 OPS production from Arcia. Longshot partner imo though.
  19. The post on extending Ortiz 5/60 with options would mean the option year buyout is included. The Brewers would be committing only 60M through his team control. It would possibly be a good move around trade deadline if trading Adames. Mix good news with upsetting news.
  20. I agree on not extending Adames because it's the SS position. Gow many draft picks and signings are at the SS position? Where if they dont stick, you play that player elsewhere on diamond. Ortiz/Turang combo can cover his departure and Black plays 2b.
  21. Brewers are 5 for 65 with RISP going back to 6th inning in 2nd game vs Detroit. 1 for 13. When reduced. Did Ben Sheets have a higher career BA than this rate? This is stretch in last 9 games. Definitely agree Chourio needs to play starting games more. He's crept up the avg. Let him see about continuing this trend. Looked it up. The Brewers need to get a hit in their next risp chance or else they are in a 10 game stretch batting worse than him.
  22. 4 for last 49. At least. 3 for 12 the game before that I stopped at. .250 is ok.
  23. Why don't we move the Burnes/Hall comments in to their trade thread and not here.
  24. Come playoffs, it'll be a bullpen game.
  25. It's only arguably because the Brewers beat up Imanaga.
