  1. I agree but he at this point makes the logical drop to AAA. I would think teams look at their OF situation and Santana hitting multiple HRs every week down in AAA and step up and trade for him. He'd only lose value if he weren't on pace for 40HRs after 100 PAs and beyond. Maybe you can entice Colorado themselves by the fact he's cranking dingers in Springs.
  2. Does Santana have an option? Edit, I ask, because I see the roster playing out that Santana is sent to AAA. Phillips as the 4th OF. When injuries happen he's obviously called up to play. I just don't agree with Braun/Thames splitting time at 1b over Thames/Aguilar splitting time.
  3. As far as our guys bringing the NL average down 'a lot' with our 4/5 starters... that just isn't true. Too many innings for our two spots to make a significant dent. Just some quick longhand math. 15 (teams) x 162 (games) = 2430 games played by National League teams last year. NL AvgInnPerStart = 5.4 x 2430 (games played) = 13,122 innings pitched by starting pitchers in the NL last year. If we get obnoxious and hypothetically add 2 full innings onto every single start our 4/5 guys made (just to try to be drastic)... (and lets call it 65 starts) ... we will add 130 innings onto the NL total. 2017 NL hypothetical total innings with better Milwaukee 4/5 starters = 13,252. 13,252 = 2,430(x). Divide both sides by 2,430. The new NL total (average innings pitched by NL starter) if we gave every single start our 4/5 guys had an extra two innings would be an average of 5.45 innings. Even a drastic hypothetical hardly moves the needle. If the major league average of pitches per game is currently sitting at 146 -> we are looking at 16.2 pitcher per inning (146/9). If our inflated example of improving our 4/5 rotation guys came to fruition and we improved the NL average start by .05 innings ... we are talking about elongating the average start by NL pitchers by less than one pitch per start. I hope you didn't take this as an obnoxious assault on your comment... I just like math. The thing on 5.4 avg IP per start is negating IP missed on a Pitcher leaving a game due to injury earlier than they normally would have pitched. Albeit small, Nelson left after 5 when he was injured. Only at 72 pitch count. That could have been 2IP but he missed out on that due to the sad injury. I think there were instances of 1st IP removals on occasion. Edit: Stroman leaving after an ejection on 1.2IP as an example.
  4. Vogt gaming the system. My arm is injured still you can't cut me since I'm not performing on the field to be reason for you to do so. Suckers. 750k if MLB sees through me or 3mil while sitting on my butt.
  5. I feel like a few posts from some posters here suggested a contract like this. Paying him 55mil in 2years with an opt out and the 20mil the years after. Boras reads our forum!
  6. I'm a bit different on this. Dozier is a 2b HR/SB stud now you can rely on. He's done it 2 years in a row. Jose Ramirez fluke year? George Springer. Quality no doubt, but less SBs than you want vs when he came up. This is why I give the nod to Dozier not just HRs at 2b but still 16SBs Jose Ramirez-The multi-position gets him here and you hope the HRs are staying but don't be surprised if 10-12 end up your HR total from him. Tommy Pham and Alex Bregman don't excite over the other three. 3b for Bregman his stats aren't special. SBs aren't something he came up with doing and that would eliminate quite a bit from the value he appears at this stage. Pham is like Ramirez, doesn't have the history to back up the HRs or SBs he posted last season. Just think these two won't live up to your expectations when selecting them 1st. Dozier and Springer are no doubts at the return you will get.
  7. Some have indicated the O's don't want to give up a draft pick. Odd since they pretty much trade away any comp pick it seems or their International allotments.
  8. Maybe Baltimore had better OB guys ahead of their better hitters? Or it's just BA guys. 4 everyday players batted .282 and above with a 5th Bench player(3rd most PA of them) Milwaukee had 0 Batters bat .280 last season. Yelich and Cain should solve a lot of that. No reason they shouldn't bat 1/2 every day they are healthy enough to play all season.
  9. MLBTR had an article stating Guerra had a 4th option so he can be shuttled to AAA to start the year or after a month or two as Nelson returns.
  10. Yep. Easy decision for me. So many more red flags with all the free agent pitchers compared to Cain. No red flags with Cain's age and length of contract? Not for 2018 or 2019. What these Pitchers are signing for. Complaints on the Rotation for this year but a guy like Arrieta is questionable for the deal he just got. Cain will outperform what he's paid this year, so long as he plays more than half a year. Glad we avoided Arrieta. His recent is questionable on him even being any better than a #3.
  11. This is ridiculous that his back after another offseason has issues being on the field. What work are you doing over 2 years that hasn't improved your ability to play a simple sport? I've been on his side here for so long but now this is growing on me to take the opposite side. You now he's at that stage like my daughter who just says they are sick because she doesn't want to get out of bed and go to school in the morning. I question Braun wanting to play baseball and coming up with lame duck injuries to take weeks off. Health technology today, his back should be good to go by now vs. complaining every month. I've worked for guys who could barely move around and swing a golf club, a knee surgery or back surgery and in less than 6 months they are praising the amazement how well they are feeling and their movement ability. You're telling me a MLB Superstar can't acquire the same treatment fix over the last 3 years by now?
  12. He holding out for 6/200 right? or is it 7/200 and 6/150? The guess in on that he finally succumbs to what is being offered now, 5/115 imo where a team keeps it at 5/115 even though he's misses 1/3? of the season.
  13. I have a hard time believing a team signs a 1yr opt out while giving up a draft pick. It would just seem bad to do that kind of deal after so long. On this prediction. He doesnt sign til after June draft. Gets 5years 115mil not long after.
  14. How does 2/20 from the Twins turn in to 1/20 guaranteed(so 15-17mil this year) 2019 of 10-15mil? So in the lines of 2/25-32? It's a tough read on your contract since Guaranteed would have to be including the buyout but not the option inclusion. I understand the idea on a 1year deal just on the fact for him he can increase his market for next year. Problem is he costs the team a draft pick. Albeit one that's a 4th rounder. You'd want 2 years out of him to make it a better likelihood you got more from him than likely that draft pick. I have to believe a deal by teams are to remain below 50million but still wanting 3 years and Lynn who declined near 18mil for this season thinks he's worth more than 50 and trying for 4 years. At the right price, there's nothing wrong with signing him, in fact he would immediately become the most durable SP you have on the team capable of 200IP easily. That fact is likely why he is asking for more money since you are getting a return likely of 570IP+ in 3 years. Cobb you could only likely expect 500IP in 3 years. On the Yadier Molina effect. Lynn has 35 games caught by Tony Cruz at 3.77ERA 6 by AJ Pierzynski at 1.35ERA 6 by Eric Fryer? at 4.15 ERA Molina total is 131 at 3.37 ERA It's all respectable. He has 2 bad signs after last season that is scaring off so many here. HRs which directly affects his FiP. No other season did he come remotely close to the HRs he gave up last season. Bounce back on his end seems likely and he's 1 year further removed from TJ. But apparently he should be 4+ERA headed south by the comments here.
  15. Are we talking about the same Broxton? https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=9253&position=OF I mean his in the zone contact decreased but he increased his Out of zone contact rate(though with more chasing that) You could conclude he makes better in the zone contact this season and improves his numbers overall by just doing that. He did have that ST hit to the head to deal with, and I'm sure that had an effect on him for some time(maybe still) He was for all the Ks, fairly consistent. He was .744OPS by game 53 and his range from that point was .695-.814 finishing at .719OPS. That FG also rates him as being 20+mil value to date. It's odd that his defense was knocked when his percentages were the same or better on likely outcomes. He's above replacement level at CF. It may be small but there are likely times he will have it be quite a bit higher. He's gotta have value to secondary teams w/o a solid core of 4OFs with 2 being CF. Philly makes sense as a team with Lefty OFs who he could platoon with. Also Oakland. I already mentioned Colorado previously just to have an OF after this season.
  16. Well behind in this thread, but this is spot on and well said post to my feelings. The bullpen is easily 10 games better over the bullpen the 1st half of last season. The top of the batting order, and subsequent push down of those atop last season, is multiple games better than all of last season. Yelich's move solved the Phillips/Brinson debate on if they could hit enough. He is their ceiling and his ceiling hasn't been reached. Signing Cain, took advantage of the market as well as solidify our CF position. The fact that they happened so close together may have been that teams were making offers for Yelich and Cain was their fallback option. Well, Stearns beat the market by getting both on the same day. This post above giving credit to 3 guys that are of mixed review here, yet are calling this offseason poor by Stearns if he doesn't sign one? Keeping your resources for a future move is smart over getting a guy who doesn't "move the needle" in his eyes. The playoffs are 162 games away. Multiple players will not be on this team come September. Basing the Playoffs today when what you see on paper 1000% won't be the same on paper come the end of September is over the top criticizing what Stearns has built over this offseason. A better team than last season. 5-11 last year in extra innings having given up 22runs in those 16 extra inning games. 23 IP total means a whopping! 8.63 ERA from the bullpen in extras. And looking at boxscores of those 16 games, only twice did Milw score in the 9th to push that game in to extras while Giving up 4 games allowing teams to score in the 9th to push extras. Basically the gang of Feliz, Peralta, Drake, Hughes and Torres. Taking all those losses. Only Drake remains for now and as noted shouldn't make the team based on who he's competing with.
  17. Lefty with First name Chris. Like Me so there was a live through times at what life could be like if my parents actually thought about raising a kid to pitch LH. Narveson too.
  18. There is the Woodruff Team control clock to always consider if they did start him in the minors. He must be around 60 days that you rewind starting in the minors. I don't think you plan on that, but since his ST results are on the bad side, Stearns may have set up the rotation with Miley/Gallardo as a plan B on doing so. Adding a year of control could increase his trade value I suppose. It's not like 6years and he's under 30 as he's 25 for 2018.
  19. Probably the first paycheck begins that week. Any day missed beyond the end of March reduces his paycheck by 2 weeks. What do these guys get 13 paychecks in a season? Sign Cobb for 13mil a year that 1st paycheck missed is 1mil. Would be an easy GM decision to tell a player if he's not signed by then the 1st year's offer is reduced the amount of his 1st paycheck. Contracts are already done that way. You sign at the full year amount, but it is pro-rated to how much season is left. So if he signed at mid-season he'd sign for 15mil but it's prorated to 7.5mil? Is the Team's salary hit on the 15mil vs the 7.5mil then? Just because he's actually getting a 15mil value contract but it's halfway in to the season? Seems a little awkward if true. oh, and yeah if that too is the case, makes my idea relevant just as much.
  20. There is always the need for him say Phillips is traded mid-season for a SP or 2b at the deadline. Cain goes down, you will be calling Broxton up to play 4th OF/CF. I really am surprised with Colorado's OF situation and the clear need for a guy like Broxton. BRef has their depth as Blackmon/Parra Major League OF and 0 AAA OFs with 2 AA OFs. I get it, Desmond is playing out there but come on, he is a converted OF who was overpaid and has a similar bat profile as Broxton only for 20+mil more this year and 14mil more next year/beyond. It's amazing how being a SS with a Broxton type of bat gets you 5yrs 70mil contract, and for a CF at Pre-Arb prices gets you Waiver-wire talk or type value.

  22. Yeah if you hadn't read through all the thread talk, he wasn't down in the minors for 20 days so he didn't burn his option last season. It's actually quite old news. Having that option, he has value to teams that lose a FA after the season. I'd put Colorado on watch. Blackmon is a FA after this season and Parra has an option after this season, that he's not worth. Colorado doesn't have the depth in AAA to supplant these two and Broxton's defense could be welcome for Coors Field, you know his HR bat will be welcome there. Probably jump up to 30-35 with games there. I'd try hard to get Peter Lambert from Colorado. Maybe you can throw in Vogt and roll with Bandy and Pina on the season.(Lucroy watch) Broxton's low price could help them in FA maybe next season or extension of Arenado? Can't believe he's getting 17.5mil with 1 more Arb to come! must be approaching 25mil next season maybe 28mil!
  23. Don't agree with this. For the most part these guys keep themselves in shape. There's an injury risk with any deal and any player. We signed a 34 year old Kyle Lohse on March 25th five years ago and we got 2 very good 200 inning seasons of 3.50 ERA type pitching. Talent evaluation, negotiation, and acquisition is a year round job and you don't stop doing your due diligence while other teams continue to and miss out on potential bargain opportunities just because Spring Training has started. Lohse isnt the same level as this offseason. The cost was more to acquire and he was the last FA pitcher awaiting a deal. Weve been tied in some way to these guys since the winter meetings. That wasnt the case on Lohse. How many days and hours of negotiating do these guys need? Option A/Darvish Signed. That was supposed to be the domino that knocked the others down. Yet here we are none signed after that. You said it" Talent evaluation, negotiation, and acquisition" It's time to spend less time and money investing in to this dead end. Move your people on to a new project of Talent evaluation. Like whos your 25man Opening day. Who are you watching in acquiring. How many times do you need to here an offer of say 3/45 before you give up your stance on holding out for more? Either we have the best offer and you need to move on it, or its time you quit pulling our chain and take that offer thats better than ours. To the person who said huh? Guys have been pitching since pitchers/catchers report with ST games. No one Im sure for Milwaukee will pitch more than 80 pitches their 1st time on the mound this regular season. These guys are behind the 8ball, not familar with the catchers. They'll be "in shape, ready to go" and pitch that 1st game week 1 of the season with a 60-65 pitch limit and come 5th/6th inning say they can finish the inning, or go out for another. Then its too much and 1st game injure their arm. Its like a player(Braun) coming back from injury "too soon" reinjuring it once again.
  24. Spring training began. You didn't accept my offer. Moving on. Don't want any of these FAs anymore. Hope all offers are pulled completely and Good luck to the team who signs these guys less than a week to begin season. First appearance on the mound in game watch them go down to a serious injury. Enjoy that investment!
  25. 12.5k/9 for his career and 14.9k/9 last season. For a RP that's pretty elite. you get excited when a guy goes above 9k/9. Barnes and Williams haven't even touched that level in the minors at best 11k/9. Kneble has practically been there from the beginning. Minors as well.
