Any one hear that the Rangers looking at Wily
brewcrewdue80 replied to brewmann04's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Yea, no need for more talent equivalent to Erceg, Ponce, Harrison... Thats our system. In other systems #15-20 can be like Kyle Wren or Michael Reed. Tyler Cravy or Taylor Jungmann. -
It's odd you are against such a move as you typically want improvements to the ML team. You may have the wrong cat. I'm not all that interested in improving this year's MLB team. I am entirely interested in improving the 2019-??? teams. In no way do I want them to flip Peralta or any trade chip with value for a relief pitcher that may or may not help them win one or two more games this year. I can be optimistic in the optimism thread, but I'll be realistic everywhere else ; ) Not to mention the fact bullpens are unpredictable, so for all we know the Brewers pen may end up being outstanding this year. You're right I was thinking of Briggs. But the thoughts aren't just for a 1year guy who adds 1 or 2 wins this year, but a guy who is around for 18 and 19 helping add 1 or 2 wins. Something I don't assume Peralta is about to do this year, the next, or in '19.

Says you. When chatter here are about Peralta, Nelson, Anderson being demoted to BP when you have 6 Rotation starters for 5 spots. You seem to think I am expecting a return like Thornburg or Smith and Jeffries by that WS title comment. Peralta by the numbers is a 4ERA SP who can potentially give you 185+IP There is nothing in his numbers to suggest he's heading for improvement. Team stands to use another BP arm and Texas would seem to have at least 6 that are age 25 or younger at their disposal. Remember Gallardo? Peralta has never shown that ability in comparison to Yovani. It's odd you are against such a move as you typically want improvements to the ML team. One which I see weakest at BP. Now you could sit back and trade for a C grade prospect who is likely a pitcher that is a #3 at best or a future BP guy. There are 3 guys I'd think would be a positive to trade Peralta for, Keone Kela being the best who is coming off a down year that wouldn't be reasonable asking for in a swap with Peralta otherwise. Let's say Peralta continues along a 4.5ERA SP and the move is to the Bullpen. I'd rather have the Bullpen addition from a trade vs Peralta trying to produce in the Pen. He's already 4.275mil cost. That makes him rather high priced as a Bullpen arm unless he turns in to a Closer/elite set-up man.

And there in lies why I am thinking if a Pitcher like Peralta is traded away it will come with a BP pitcher from said team. Kneble just hasn't performed up to snuff as I expected and is warranting a demotion with continued performance issues. Torres is 34 and pitched his best ever for 2016 by the stats. I wouldn't count on him to produce at or better than last season. Feliz is a never ending question mark Jungmann has never been anything but a disappointment. Marinez is thus far a 1 year contribution. We will be relying on Feliz, Torres, Marinez and Kneble I assume and all four are questionable at their performance. Cravy seems well suited to be a long type of rp. Barnes seems a solid option as well. Millone seems like Jungmann to me. Blazek has regressed. Magnifico just doesn't seem to be to have the tools to be trustworthy outside a 6th in type of play. Suter you can't predict currently because he's a soft tosser that tends not to translate well when in the Majors. So I think there's the outside chance a bullpen arm comes from last minute trade, or last of the cuts.

How is this even possible? Place I'm renting in Sheboygan, no outlets outside and no spout to attach a hose, which seems to be standard for houses in Sheboygan not to have outside water. 4 of my last 5 rentals no outdoor spout.

My thing on this is the minors depth is growing. Peralta wouldnt get someone who fits top 10 among them. But another 11-30s type. Which now competes with others for rule 5 protection in a year or 3. And this type of prospect fits in a group of likely never starting for a season for Milw. So if Im trading Peralta Im looking for a ML piece. Doesnt have to have the 6years of team control. The Relief Pitchers could use a better body. Id take a RP for Peralta over a long shot prospect to this point. Helping the immediate team. Yeah yeah I understand you like talent. Acquire a talent. But theres a point where all this talent gets roadblocked. Guys like Miguel Diaz get drafted Rule 5 and you lose such talent. -

I'm reading that too. I'd find it hard to see a team part with something special. Because Wily could tank in the AL and be non-tender come next season. Maybe you get them to trade away one of their higher recent picks in a draft a 3-4years away type, but that'd be unsatisfying should Peralta produce around 4ERA with 200IP. I'd wonder to a RP like Keone Kela where you help the bullpen. Two buy-lows in a trade. -
I think starting Maker is a game plan thing. Keeps Monroe as 6th man off the bench and a scorer option when teams substitute. There are guys out with injury, maybe having an idea with his aggressive play that a cpl fouls come at a time when they're non-shooting. Hes improving and going to be a fun one to watch team with Giannis. The blocks he gets are remarkable at times. From a cpl months ago to current, hes settled down, the game moving half a step slower for him.

If you try to miss and make, wow that is pathetic. Shoot at left or right side of the rim, simple as that. Trying to miss while still shooting towards center of basket? So glad you have been receiving an education that shows youve taken no initiative to learning. I mean how is this scenario not practiced? In this instance its to run out the clock. But theres instances where you need to catch the rebound and score. Clanking hopefully hard off the side of the rim the ball shoots off 5 or 6feet towards the sideline and it's abnormal for a block out to push an offensive rebounder in that direction. You are instead protecting the rim and that O-rebounder may have a clean run out to grab such a bounce. Especially if you're planning and expecting such. That Happ 3pt foul. Hes a rebounder usually around the rim, his turn around body bumping the shooter well past the shot is called blocking out. If you're whistling that then you are whistling every missed shot.

This would be my idea to a solution. You want paid athletes in college. Well, since a scholarship and education isnt payment enough here you go: If you're positive you wont stay in the school 4years, you take on a paid student athlete. You are paid twice the enrollment cost and not provided a scholarship. So you lose half to pay for your schooling every year you attend. 1 year? Well there you go. 2?, 3? Okay. But 4 is not paid to you. Your plan was to advance to the next level and not get your 4year education. Not taking a scholarship, allows you to leave school before your senior year. You don't take that route, then you are given the 4year scholarship and you have to stay in the school not allowed to leave early. Guaranteeing the "student athletes" their ability to achive an education. An education that should lead to a successful career without entering professional level. I don't know how that will affect the likes of Kentucky or Alabama for football. But you will have an answer to how long a recruit will be with the team. And since the paid student athlete, pays his years in that college, what he does in his schooling is his business. The school didnt give him a free ride, they paid him to perform for their school.

That Happ foul with 9mins to go was the wrong call, defenders feet were inside that arc line where O-fouls are not to be called, he stops Happ with ball has contact, that is a blocking foul. One of many egregious foul calls on the Badgers. I believe Happ made that shot, which was waved off...-2pts. You have Happ's foul on the 3pt shot near end of the half a terrible call. Standing straight up back turned and the FL guy flops away like major contact effected him, certainly not on the shot. Take the OT tip. I mean a foul on a ball nobody had a chance to control on 2 players diving for the ball. Showalter remained under control, the FL guy dove all the way to court so I suppose refs decided, like many falling FL out of control shots to whistle WI. Try that Barry kid. After Happ makes it a 4pt game and Jordan Hill brought in to the game #11 for WI moments earlier, Barry gets a pass and dribbles hard front shoulder straight in to Hill who was just standing still and they whistle Hill for a foul, what should have been a Charge on Barry completely out of control. Rather than make 2FTs to make it a 2pt game leading to Iverson's failed layup, it would have been Badgers ball, Hill shooting 2 FTs with :37 left up 4. In the end, Hayes, all those missed FTs, but he makes what to me should have been a miss on purpose. Under the circumstance with 4secs to go, No timeouts, you gather a rebound on the miss will take near a second off the clock right there, potentially more. Now you're scrambling to get the ball in the hands of a guard who likely rushes just inside of half court and having to shoot from there. Making that FT allowed them to set up on an inbound with pass deeper than where a rebound would have taken place, on the run down court rather in a static position before moving forward. So disappointing after that shot Showalter nailed to tie at the buzzer to blow a 5pt lead with 1:09 to go. I mean think about Iverson's missed Layup, if he'd have pulled back upon catching the ball the clock would have run down to about 6secs if fully expired. But really, of all Badgers he's the one that dunks with authority, but at that instant, he did the release for a lay-in and gave the defender the ability to disrupt it. sigh, it was just right there and it slipped.

So not trying to hijack the Will Smith thread. Some talk was to why arent these catchers taking reps at 1b? Having 3 catchers make the roster. Think of it positively, which of Bandy/Susac starts at AAA, will do so with catching Hader, Woodruff, Jungmann, maybe Lopez and Im sure Im forgetting some. But he'll get reps with them. Say one of them take a personal liking to having him catch his starts, that may produce earlier success when they reach the ML team. Its not like the Brewers are stuck with 3 catchers til their contracts end. Trading 1 of the 3 by this deadline and replacing with the 3rd, at a time youd think Hader or Woodruff would be called up. The winner between the 3 may just be who starts in AAA andgets reps with the future, vs the rebuilders.

In an 82 game season how often do you have 4&5 game roadtrips? Im used to seeing 2 and 3 game trips. Now curiosity has gotten me to want to look back and see how often a season that happens. My guess is 2. With 5game trips not happening every season The majority of the long trips are west coast like what we just did. 2016: @4 & @6 where 4-2 gives them that 4win accomplishment 2015: 3 times @4 2014: 2 times @4 2013: 1 time @4 2012: 2times @4 2011: 1 time @5 2010: 0times 2009: 1time @4 1 time @6 2008: 2 times @4 2007: 1 time @5 2006: 2 times @4 2005: 1 time @4 2004: 1 time @5 2 times @4 2003: 1time @5 1 time @4 2002: 1 time @4 2001: 1 time @5 2 times @4 2000: 1time @5 1 time @6 1999: 1 time @5 1998: 1 time @4 1997: 3 times @4 1996: 1 time @4 1 time @7! 1995: 1 time @4 1 time @5 1994: 2 times @5 1 time @4

All I know is I was happy for Team USA when seeing Lucroy was playing for them, and hes part of why USA won its first ever WBC. A big part for Stroman's performance as he mentioned Lucroy and he being in a groove. I'd feel more to the WBC if a Brewer were on the US team. Also better televised as I dont pay for MLB network. But whatever, congrats USA!

Anyone else find it weird how these two teams were essentially the first games last Sat. And will now be the last or next to on Friday? Whereas some teams who played Sun will be playing today?

It has been fun to watch. Middleton is underrated. I did not realize he was that prolific as a scorer. His shots are so pure. Mixing in/out he and Giannis leaves a scorer on the court to bale out the backup units. Monroe is doing excellent scoring or passing. Then you have guys like Teletovic or Hawes dropping in 3s. Id like Hawes to play more. Because he will score inside, where Teletovic doesnt seem to venture. It's fun watching him play because I just think oh no dont shoot that, and swish. Confident reaction of too easy. Thanks for letting get min to show it is. I seen that last night checking the standings all this hoopla theyd made it up to 6 like that was going to be the highest they can climb...yet lo and behold they're 1game behind 5seed Atlanta who they play next! Rather than Clv in 1st rd. We could face them in 2nd rd. 2series of experience would do alot moving forward.

Devin Williams to have TJS - Miss 2017
brewcrewdue80 replied to JDBrewCrew's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
How does this work in terms of Rule 5 protection? Drafted 2013 only reached high A ball. Do the Brewers gain a year before having to protect him from the rule 5? Or will he need protection as others in his draft class hit that mark? Is it 2018 after this season or 2019? Im at the point, he's a lost cause and wont make the Majors until hes near 30. That's if hes groomed to Starter. Moving him to Bullpen maybe 3 but likely 4years if he makes it. -
He's clearly worth something being the no 2 option out there reportedly, where #1 is asking for Andrew Benintendo+. I know how we feel on his age and thus to be traded, butif Stearns is a talent getter, well Guerra proven talent over Peralta, Nelson, Garza, and Anderson at this point. We don't have 4 better than #3s coming yet. Embracing the rebuild may be finishing, and adding wins within the ML roster for Stearns happening. Now Im not saying we're trading away prospects, but when you're acquiring talent and Guerra possesses and shows it, that mindset leans to saving him. Hes got more team control than Peralta, Nelson, and Anderson. The Cubs won the World Series with 37yr old John Lackey, 33 year old Jason Hammel the non #3+ getting 59GS. Lackey makes 16mil this season Hammel 5million the 1st of a 2yr/14mil guaranteed deal. So 7mil avg. Again, he has team control. And showing better talent than guys who have less. Saying he wont be around by the time the team becomes competitive is false. He can be around, and he can potentially be valuable in that team. He's a pre-arb paid SP. Peralta is not. Anderson will not be after this season. If you are going to move him, the trade deadline/ next offseason he can be the Jose Q at that point. With Stearns asking for a Victor Robles or Eloy Jimenez price. Guys like him have accelerated this rebuild. Great seasons and returns on Smith, Thornburg, Lucroy, and Jeffress was the opposite of normal for Milw with trade pieces. Those guys produced and got back more value than heading in to 2016. Let these guys play and find out if they'll increase their value. All of them not named Davies can increase that we're barking to trade when higher talent is offered.
-
Optimistic on all the position players being equal or better than last year at the position. Yes, Catcher too. The duo of Bandy/Pina equal the duo of Lucroy/Maldonado. As both return better offense than Maldonado to offset Lucroys better Offensive numbers. There are going to be some explosive Offense games, wouldnt doubt a 20 run game gets put up in one.

Scooter Gennett's trade value
brewcrewdue80 replied to Harry Doyles JD's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Or you know Santana played 77games last season total as a result with injuries? Should someone recovering from injury in a 65win team who won 73 sell out his body dive for catches, ran hard in to fences? How was Aaron Rodgers Running ability down at the end of 2016? And thats from a guy in the midsts of putting a 6game win streak to win the division and male the playoffs. Let him play a healthy season and learn to his defensive ability. Then give a distinguish to his defensive ability. -
For the most part, its likely not worth much. And some places likely will reauire you to have more before even doing a transaction. I ran in to that problem Given 20 British Pounds as a tip one day. (1.94) per back then. Lost a lot of value today. I went to a couple banks to exchange it and was told they only change the currency with 50pounds or more. Now this is a popular currency. I cant imagine what amount you need with such an irregular currency. My dad has currency from serving in Vietnam I looked for recently. You can find more info online and try to match with images to find what the currency even is. Id probably check in with a bank, let them lead you to possible place to exchange the currency. Maybe theres a museum somewhere that would take it for display.

The "ceiling" for every player in the lineup
brewcrewdue80 replied to adambr2's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
My Caveat is Broxton's ceiling is too low. At least in HRs. 20 is light for ceiling, 34 would fit a more appropriate ceiling. 20 would just be my average expectation for him with 550+ PAs. The SBs certainly are his ceiling. Im thinking 45 is that number. Gennett, Perez, and Kirk N. I'm just down on with Playing time to be reduced. Maybe Half would be appropiate and 20-30pts less in BA. Santana and Thames sure .900 OPS ceilings seem suitable. Shaw I cant get on board with 30HRs, partly because I expect him around 7th in batting order, partly because Perez sharing time. Arcia I hope you're right. You do figure he may bat 8/9th so the pitches are going to be worse with a pitcher batting after. And his early swinging may suffer to that swinging at pitches trying to avoid the zone. Put the Starters together though and think 34, 20, 27, 30, 30, 25, 15, 15 on HRs~196HR combined. Before adding Bench stats to HRs. Wheres that put this Milw team for HRs? -
Or shows the Depth growing in the Brewers. Playing minor guys that are far superior than any Spring Brewers have had in 20years or ever? Meanwhile other teams go without stars and lack the minors depth Milwaukee has with the WBC ongoing? Erceg, Diaz, Brinson, Cordell Bandy&Pina. Then you have Aquilar and Broxton with video game numbers. Just a thought. I am pumped to see this offense play out this year and beyond. Hopefully they reside top 3 offensively of NL teams. That's my ceiling to them. With 6-8th expected among NL again. Any worse would be disappointing. CS may be a result of not only the batting success, but being an aggressive on the basepaths, a scouting on the Catchers on the other teams as well as scouting the baserunners ability to steal vs which type of Catchers. Get a gun arm. Average arm. A weak arm. Positive for reps in both regards
-
Probably true. But they certainly were playing him all 3rd qtr while up that differential. I didnt pay as much attention watching the 4th. Draymond Green gets a lot of free contact non-calls with his aggressive defense. Holding a jersey while reaching to steal, or arm shoves. If the ref crew in the WI game were the crew for this game he'd have fouled out mid 2nd qtr.
-
Weird game last night. Bucks all started with extreme confidence taking and hitting shots. Suddenly after taking I think 27-13 lead they all lost confidence, except Monroe. Giannis disappeared completely. I think Golden State after having a near tie 1st qtr, shot 80% in the 2nd qtr while the Bucks meekly shot below 25% to go from shock and awe to those fans up to 27pts making GS defense look bad, to having a look like HS players facing an NBA team. And man, GS really wanted to win and embarrass the Bucks, up 23-29pts they didnt sit Curry, Green, Thompson, Iquodala one minute. On a side note, part of the quick start can nearly all be attributed to Thon Maker. His height/length and athleticism completely affected the Warriors. They would take advantage of his defensive positioning from time to time, but that athleticism and ability to recover did cause a cpl TOs and a Block. HHe's going to be a great one as the game slows for him.
