  1. Well then, crap, I've told some friends that if Capers returns, I'm not watching the Packers next season. I cannot stomach 30+pts a game consistently having to be overcome and be rescued by the heroics that is Aaron Rodgers QB'ing. At least the Bucks are growing more and more exciting. Hate to even say it, but more bad news for you. Bucks have lost 8 of their last 9 ; ) Well considering I'm talking of filling in my fandom away from Packers 2017/18, this year's team isn't so much a worry. Thon Maker is seeing his Minutes per game rise, and I think it'll be approaching 20mins or higher come next season. I really think he'll be a difference maker...no pun intended... and we're talking Middleton returning. You've got them 4 pairing with Delly and Brogdon. Though I wouldn't be surprised to see Delly traded with Brogdon's success and continued growth from Vaughn, though that's questionable to say at this moment. Back to Packers talk...I don't believe in resigning Peppers, and in that regard keeping Matthews. The two combined on the year had 47tackles. 12.5 of them sacks. But it all depends on what Peppers asks, because he's on such a limited snap count. Certainly provides some stats you like, but at what cost for how many snaps. Matthews on the other hand, his pay jumps in 2017 and production so soft, with a continual exposed weakness on run designed plays. If you consider him an OLB while lining up on the line, a RB who runs right by him, would mean nothing but daylight for the next 5-7yards. Unless a MiLB escapes his blocker and is in good angle for tackle on short gain. I'd rather keep Peppers for longer down to distance to go on 2nd&3rd downs if we could make that decision to cut Matthews. Looking at WalkerFootball top 100 FAs. #2 is Eric Berry at Safety Yes to this pay the man because safety isn't as strong as it's talked about. #7 is TJ Lang so there is agreement on him. #8 is Melvin Ingram who it says combines Sacks with run stuffing ability...the opposite of what Clay Matthews brings. If not him.... #12 is Trumaine Johnson a cover cornerback. 2015 had 17PDs and 7Ints. I'd let Tretter enjoy a FA signing elsewhere. Lacy I'd move on from as well, because weight issues tend to re-emerge. Cook is a no-brainer. Hyde could be moved on from if you signed Eric Berry. Perry and Jones I can agree on but it's not a long term idea. There's so much money I think it's possible to find a big FA acquisition. 2 with removing Matthews.
  2. You are on the right track to my feelings. 2million seems to be about the cost anyway they would be spending on the draft picks, so it's not like that 2million hits them from out of nowhere. I can see where you are going with this. Overall, the picks the Astros they are receiving are very difficult to predict will ever reach the Majors. I think this was light and as Brew4U said should have lost their 1st rd(better their 1st rd comp balance in 2018), without the ability to sign a QO player in 2018. And would have been better in your opinion, to have gone and taken away from their international bonus pool which is 5.75mil this year. Say taken 3.75mil from that pool and no signings above 300,000 like the other teams' restrictions who'd gone over their previous pools. Or maybe MLB could have just suspended the Cardinals Competitive Balance bonuses the next 5years.
  4. Haven't even gotten in to Spring Training, I don't get moves like this on formerly high thought of players. I'd fully expect when he reaches the waiver period a rebuilding team grabs him and follows him through Spring Training. Which is just something I'd think Colorado should be doing. His numbers are really bad. Talking worse than Ariel Pena bad. So we'll see.
  5. To me, this is the point of this strategy. Skip top pitchers and draft the top hitters. 4,5, maybe it's always the first 6 picks are batters. And you fill in with Bullpen guys sprinkled throughout the rest of you picks. You don't need top pitchers from the draft with a 3IP type. The strategy is to simply get through a lineup once and never go through a full lineup twice. As one of the first posters shown, Nelson's 1st time and 2nd time through the order was great. But really tailed off in the 3rd and 4th times. You'd think with all the great hitters you'd hope to be developing with the high selections over and over, you could turn 1 a year in to 2 of the these types. Taijuan Walker with Ketal Marte was part of a deal for Segura, Haniger and a 3rd. This was a former top 20 SP who's not put his talent together. You would just think it'd be easier to find the amount of pitchers who can all most likely pitch below a 3.75ERA in this strategy. This vs. trying to fill a 5man starting rotation where the 3rd man on avg is at or worse of 3.75ERA. 4th over a 4, and 5th even higher. Injuries wouldn't affect so much on a 2.5ERA pitcher because you're not filling his place with a #5 pitcher. But, again I just don't see a team moving to this strategy, til it has seen success elsewhere.
  6. Dont care on the rules. This is my answer as well. Great pick find Plush. This is baseball and a rarity for a draft pick to make the team the same year. Barely 50/50 to make the Majors to begin with. Picking top-line talent and letting the kid find out what life is. You dont get your way when playing sports til you are a FA. Go ahead, dont sign, spend a year or more hoping to retain your talent without serious injury. And certainly delay youtself from the big FA payday. Ace on staff, or future MVP bat at 3rd base. Yep easy choice
  7. Well he hasn't been waived yet. Presumably the Rockies will try to salvage something for him in trade before they place him on waivers. I dont understand the process. DFA so when does it become waivers for teams to claim? Isnt it essentially waived now pending a trade in 3days?
  8. Why wouldn't Atlanta or Cincinnati claim him before it came to out turn?
  9. I'm an accountant by trade, but I do not understand what you are saying. Adam, I'm saying that if the Brewers were projected to show a $30M profit this year, but they sign Weiters for $6 million, he would cost them $6 million. But by lowering the club's profits to around $24.5 million, they'd save on roughly $1.5-2M in taxes, thus making the actual cost of adding Weiters more like $4-4.5 instead of 6. Still, no need to sign him if we like who we've got. I just don't see a downside to signing Weiters. His OBP has diminished from it's best years, his OPS+ has been fine to good, and he has tremendous power potential. Given his work at throwing out runners, I would guess he's decent behind the dish as well. They do have this Concession project around 20million dollars to write off towards the profit/taxes. But certainly having forgot this by now
  10. Unfortunate that you were disappointed however I liked both, Force Awakens more than Rogue One and the vast majority of critics and fans agree. Rey, Finn and Kylo Ren are great characters and they don't have to rely on just the old characters. No chance that Luke will pull a Yoda from Attack of the Clones. Just disappointed in the abilities so quickly with Rey and Finn immediately. Or the inability by Kylo Ren who was trained.
  11. Since we are speaking a lot about the Dodgers, I'll chime in breaking my silence but return again after. Kershaw is 29 for the '17 season, with another 3years. I get he can opt out, but what's he opting out for? The team is at a position where they are filling the roster internally while spending wisely. Yes they gave up DeLeon, but for a bat that is being argued Braun would fill for them. This is a team who's had success with Kenta Maeda, about to receive continued games started by what was the #1 SP prospect in baseball in Urias. Hyun-Jin Ryu has 2 successful seasons and will return. And a host of other SPs to be their #5. The former #1 hitting prospect in Corey Seager ROY 3rd place in MVP voting resumes leading the batting. I think for them the production from Joc Pederson and Yasiel Puig becomes that fix around the deadline. Pederson had a solid season, still below a little from his minors, but some more growth and he's a fantastic bat(Domingo Santana comp profile imo). Alex Verdugo has AAA experience and may be the solution in adding offense, on top of Forsythe's. 4 straight seasons of 90+win teams and 2017 will most likely add another. I know I've said the same concern to their need for Braun to get them over the hump offensively, but there is a far greater likelihood they win a World Series than probably all but the Cubs throughout baseball currently. And I'm not sure they aren't the most likely because of Urias/Maeda/Ryu. Younger than the Cubs SPs who've outperformed their age and all of them their Fip. Oh and add Healthy needing just a total of 10 games started outside their 5man rotation. The GM must be sitting there and waiting for the right moment, as in these contracts in 2years finally off their books. The Braun proposed deal removed a lot of payroll, so they are clearly working handcuffed in how much they will take on. Argument has been in Puig having every bit of much for value as Braun potentially. 2b was their weaker standing.
  12. Hey now Braun wasn't the only suggestion, by now everyone knows they are on his no-trade list. And I wouldn't say he'd never go there. It's a hitters paradise. Nobody here is Ryan Braun so you can't fully say he wouldn't choose this or that franchise to be traded to. What if Colorado is #7,8, or 9 on his list if it was put down on paper. You do know Colorado plays in the same division as LA/SF/Arz. That means more games played in California. I'm counting 20games vs. the 7 right now for Milwaukee. I'd think it is more plausible than Toronto which is 2500+miles from LA. His wife may be from there, but I'm not seeing they have a home there. The contract was drawn up before his PEDs suspension. Situations have changed, so his stance may be different than what it was back then. I'd love to see Braun's bat play out mutiple seasons in Colorado and inflate his offensive numbers. Now to where MadTown mentions another name, Guerra according to Fangraphs, throws 3 pitches. 61% Fastball, 20% Splitter and 15% Curveball. a rare remaining on Sliders. If Jorge Lopez can't make a curveball work in Colorado Springs, how's that work for Guerra with him throwing it nearly every 6th pitch? Pitch it less? but then he's more a 2pitch pitcher and that's not considered very good for a SP. I mentioned previously in the Sonny Gray thread of finding Colorado and OF, which they do need after 2017. Carlos Gonzalez is a FA after the season. And I do know they are considering extending him, but the guy is only above avg at home. Just avg on the road and now passing that age 30. 20million this year, and you'd just think he puts too much a price on his head. If I'm Colorado, I just wait, give him the QO and watch the market not develop for a guy that is a career .750 OPS on the road. And then sign him to a reduced deal because jokes on him. But let's go on and predict a deal never happens with Colorado and he's a FA signed away. Big time hole in the OF. I'm hoping Jon Gray struggles in Colorado and Milwaukee strikes a deal to acquire him for Brinson plus I dunno let's go funny and say Phil Bickford. But that deal surrounds 2017 being a good year for Broxton and Santana solidifying themselves in the OF and say Phillips or someone else of the OF prospects kinda jumping on the radar of soon to be callup. Harrison being my vote of most likely. I like Colorado as a trade partner but it's deadline and next offseason that I see that scenario playing out.
  13. It's a hidden mix when it comes to the Pitchers and value. You know there are guys that their option is just the bullpen. You'd have to gravitate to finding a few of them. Vs. the SP types. Now being told you are a 6th, 7th, 8th inning type bullpen guy negates a bit of your expected value. But if youre that type, and now give them the stretch it out 1-3, 4-6, 7-8 innings. Pitching you're talking 120IP vs under 70 these days, that value is going to increase for them. Not the 3-6.5million, but instead 7-10million in pay for an example. You'd also run in to the likelihood of quicker call-ups. Instead of 5years to develop in the minors you run them up in 3 let's say because Innings Limits are a concern, nor so much as Pitching 6 and developing a 3rd or 4th pitch. And considering are they going to tire out in the case of an extra inning game? Well, I'd think arms that are pitching 30s to 70s in a pitch count could pitch in a pinch on 2nd days rest. 3 of them will be pitching tomorrow's game. You could probably pull one and rotate the 9 in that respect. There isn't a consistent starter based on this rotation. It'd be like this: 1,2,3 4,5,6 7,8,9 1,2,3,4 5,6,7 8,9,1,2 on and on and now you're looking at maybe 125IP with the extra say 3games pitched through the all season. You have these guys with 60-70 Pitch limits, or the 3IP limits. And if they are that effective many won't reach 50pitches in their turn. So then maybe in a close game #3 for that night goes 4 or 5IP as needed up to that 70pitch limit. I dunno, it's interesting. Say you found yourself blessed with 7 really good of the 9. You are effectively giving the fans more chances to see them pitch every 3rd day vs the standard 5. You'd be guaranteeing every 3 game set a chance to see them pitch. This vs. say maybe over 3weeks before pitching a home game due to the 5day rotation. The idea maybe includes arms not succumbing to TJ as frequent. Or maybe it leads to more frequency due to the higher expected velocity? I think it won't happen anytime soon. I'm going to guess this will have to be shown at the college level with a college team/conference doing this and actually winning a championship to bring this idea to higher attention.
  14. Nothing's stopping them from getting rid of him just as nothing stopped them from getting rid of Suppan a few games into his last contract year. Problem with Garza is that even if he's okay, and sports something around his career ERA of around 4 through half a season, will that make him a target for contending teams when there will likely be other options available as well? Probably not. Could he put together a string of really good starts and turn into some actual value? Anything's possible, but if he does that, there's a chance the Brewers will be within striking distance themselves. Brewers need to evaluate what they have in Arizona as best they can and go with their 5 best healthy starters regardless of contracts. If they deem Garza to be one of those 5, keep him. If not, let him go. It's not all that complicated. See, I think Garza's contract in that exact situation makes him a deadline deal. You see a decent amount of that 4ERA type exchanging hands. And especially with 5mil option for 2018 that puts the likes of Pitts, Tampa, Minn, Miami, Oak, Sea, Baltimore all in play. Types that are cash strapped, or not expected to compete, but may be in position with a clearer view to sorta compete...Tampa, Minn, Miami, Oak in that regard. Not expecting much in the return, but the money saved, and the open SP slot he vacates.
  15. 2020 what will the team look like? Well, Braun still remains. Brinson, Villar, Dubon, Perez, Nelson, Peralta, Anderson, Kneble and Shaw have been traded before the 2020 season. OF: Braun, Santana, Broxton, Phillips, and Ray 1b: Gilbert Lara 2b: Isan Diaz SS: Orlando Arcia 3b: Combo of Jacob Gatewood and Lucas Erceg C: Susac and Nottingham Last Utility: Ryan Cordell Cordell backups Lara mostly. Gatewood at 2b/SS. Diaz at 2b/SS. Erceg is 3b strictly. Ray is for Braun's back-up. Phillips for Broxton/Santana. SPs: Josh Hader, Luis Ortiz, Acquisition Jon Gray, Zach Davies, and Marcos Diplan Closer: Brandon Woodruff Set-up: Jorge Lopez Secondaries: Phil Bickford, Corbin Burnes, Cody Ponce, Kodi Medeiros, Acquisition in trade Zach Burdi. Cody Ponce and Phil Bickford are used as long men. Medeiros is the LH specialty. Burdi is closer to be but behind Lopez/Woodruff. Burnes is sorta first reliever out of pen. Considering the amount of players traded, their ought to be a stud beyond Jon Gray mixed in there. Let's say with acquiring Burdi the Brewers also acquired Zach Collins for Catcher. Seeing as they are both WhiteSox players, I'll say Dubon or Villar were a part of that trade, maybe with Kneble. Adding for AAA: Harrison and Clark are top 25 prospects and 1 is used in a trade deadline deal if needed. With Braun's contract expiring the other replaces Braun in a battle with Ray, Phillips. Freddy Peralta is knocking at the door in bullpen and already has seen games. Will say the same for Trey Supak. Nathan Kirby becomes the sad oft injured TJ twice prospect that we don't see at the ML level.
  16. Hwang was signed to a Minor League deal with the Giants. Kinda surprised if he was willing to sign such a deal the Brewers didn't get in on him. I know we have Shaw and Perez, but I think when you can play this guy at your AAA home being Colorado Springs, his performance could be to interest in a trade, but meanwhile, you insure a backup plan to Shaw depending which bat shows up.
  17. Wow, just watched replay of MU game. What a comeback! I think it was 13pts with under 7mins in the midsts of about to miss 6of8 FTs.where instead of being down 4 with under 4:30left they were still down 10. Also overcoming what I thought were terrible foul calls boxing out on Villanova Offensive rebounds. Over the back mauling and the refs called Marquette for great box outs. The lack of calling fouls on Villanova led to them being so aggressive jumping over or around Marquette defenders on pretty much all their scoring in the 2nd half. To win that game, Reinhardt was big time. Signature win stamps them an auto bid so long as they reach 19wins from here. 18 would put them on the bubble
  18. The Last Jedi. Well hasn't that been the case since the first movie, Episode 4? How will they do Princess Leia without Fisher? While an interesting take on Kylo becoming a good guy, I don't see that happening. What would make him do that considering who his parents were? And seeing as he Killed his Father. I'm expecting to be very disappointed once again.(man Rogue One was awful) Luke in his older age will do amazing acrobatics like Yoda did pre episode 4 in whatever battle he gets in...He'll need all these acrobatics to face Kylo, when Rey didn't. Rey to me is somehow going to have dots put together that she's Obi-Wan's granddaughter. Thus why the lightsaber called to her and why she has her abilities. So it'll come full circle, Obi trains Darth Vader and Luke somewhat. Luke trains Obi's granddaughter. Finn's character bothers me. Because when has a stormtrooper just suddenly not be a stormtrooper anymore? Now we'll be forced to sit through some storyline to figure this out and connect the dots. I can't wait to the scene that comes where you see the real Snoke and he's the size of Yoda.
  19. About Gennett, can he be optioned to AAA? I don't recall him being sent back to the minors multiple times. If at all. Looking at his minors and ML time. 0 time in 2014 in minors. 2games last year which I'll guess is of a DL stint. 2015 he had 2 stints of time in the minors so maybe early in 2015 or is that injury DL stints as well? I'm thinking Gennett can just be optioned to AAA and be a veteran backup in case any of the 2b,SS, and 3b go down in injury. As to the trade. Figure out the WAR for Forsythe vs Dozier for 2015? Dozier has an equal slg, worse .236BA-.280/.307-.359OB not much defensive. 0 to .9DWAR but 2.6 more Wins. Overall, the two are being paid the same which considering the Dodgers money situation 7million doesn't make it better. I think Dozier is certainly the better player but understand going with Forsythe for 1 prospect. Tampa loses it's 2nd highest cost on payroll and they avoided taking in any contract for a better return which is sad that a MLB franchise struggles to run above 70million in payroll. 77mil is their all-time highest which is barely even double what Trout/Kershaw get next season. I'm thinking in the Dodgers case they went ahead and parted with De Leon because they are full with Pitchers on the MLB team and in their upper minors if they need to call any up. We'll see how Forsythe's game translates to NL West parks vs the AL East's. I guess this is a fair deal maybe just a little overpay on the Dodgers end
  20. Part of the run game issues, is Mccarthy making run calls in obvious situations which then get stuffed and he abandons for another series, or predictable time to run next. 3rd and 1, 3rd and 2. For as good as their hurryup offense can be, the number of times they huddle and break from it with under 10secs on play clock is nerveracking. I feel there should be more audibles than you see when run plays are called. But its like ther dont have an audible if it is a run play. One of their weakest parts to the run game has been the terrible run blocking via the TE position. Some kind of replacement for Richard Rodgers is necessary. Or they flat out need to go 6man OL and try beating them with the 2wrs only when mixing a playaction.
  21. Im going to think his lack of games started at 2b over his career, make Perez a hard everyday 2b target for LA. Everyday player in and of itself is reason to pause trading for. He's a certain utility, but everyday IF just a tough sell.
  22. Absolutely time to let Capers go, 5years ago and every year to now. Like said earlier, embarrassing big time postseason exits. There is never an adjustment. If it works first half it wont 2nd. If its not working 1st, it only worsens. His style must be predictable. The amount of times a cb drops a WR to pass to a safety always seems 12yards downfield, Safety 21yards downfield. QB hits 16yards wide open. Ive always hated a CB pulling off to play zone. The WR he stops covering, so often is the only Offensive player within 20yards. And he just stopped leaving him wide open. Countless, after countless times, Capers scheme of this cb to safety is exposed. Whether its the CB passing to soon or the safety not switching or moving to a different receiver. How many clueless exchanges have we witnessed...what went wrong? Looks. That was my guy, youre to stay on your guy looks. Finally a DC blitzed us properly. I cant figure out why its not done. But stunt at the line on a delay lb spy blitz. What were there? 4 untouched blitzes. Plain and simple, we must find an elite player in the secondary. Not since nick collins has that been. Haha is avg if that. How hes probowl is beyond me. Matthews as someone said, is time to be released. His injury filled body isnt worth the money. Did he even record 50tackles this year? Some way some how the Pack need a great FA signing. You know as White was, As Woodson was. Both leaders upon game 1 for the defense. I mean, who is the leader on this defense? Peppers? Ive never seen Matthews as it. Just a great individual player. I cant remember the last season I thought GB had an OLine that was good run blocking. Frank Winters at center years? I get that you have Rodgers to pass protect, but its terrible hes doing it on his own.
  23. I say yes and to Baldkin's take above, the new stadium may help. Or the fact that the club is working with the top 3 NBA player another 4 years or longer. Nevermind how good Jabari is coming about. This is like Allen, Robinson duo only they are better ceilings. The front office has every reason to max offer Giannis and Jabari to keep them here. When's the last time you could say that? Redd? And he immediately became injury-prone and unreliable. So they don't need to hand out Miles Plumlee contracts because they'll need that money for those 2.
  24. Well, when your defense doesn't win the turnover battle 2-0 Sea/Atl Or a QB with under 5.0yards passing because simply being terrible Hou/NE And the 18-16 score not being a steamroller game. KC/Pitts. You're also talking outcomes delivered by the MVP type QBs past/present. Including Rodgers over the Giants. Looking past this game. Brown/Bell/Roethlisburger combo? Or Brady/Belichek combo? I don't think we'd want to face Pittsburgh. And obviously, fans are going to clamor for Rodgers vs Brady because the winner takes a big step on the Goat claim. The ratings will be off the charts for that game. Watch for a shady few calls going both our way and the Patriots.
  25. I don't agree with moving Villar and keeping the minors stocked. But that is based on his 2016 which for many Middle infielders a ceiling projection. Any near repeat in 2017 and I find it hard to part with that. 4WAR with potential to better on the defensive side is hard to replicate. You move him and get a 2WAR type behind him always waiting for that 4WAR ceiling. Now you're chasing Villar's former production and in most likelihood, could have gotten the Jon Gray type by throwing in added C grade prospects with the really good B grade prospect. I've said for awhile that Arcia can become this team's Derek Jeter for a dozen or so years. But maybe that individual winds up being Villar.
