  1. Never prior to last season would Milwaukee had gotten Walker for Segura. And I get they may like Haniger but Segura's 2015 was so atrocious I'd imagine both Haniger and Segura wouldn't have gotten Marte prior to 2016. I think this is a major win for the Diamondbacks. The talent is real in Walker, a guy that's only 24. Thrown CG 3hit shutout in Sept with 11Ks. Had an 8IP 3hit 0ER 11k 10 starts before that. Yes 27HRs is a lot, but happened pitching in the AL. 41 of 75 total runs given up in those HRs. You know who else gave up a lot of HRs? Marco Estrada, who's been under 3.5ERA over 53starts, the last 2 seasons removed from Milwaukee. Then there's Ketel Marte, who's youngest in this deal and with 2 part time MLB seasons to his credit. Switch hitter and numbers that would suggest a Segura type of player stats. Younger and more team control for the same type of player who's still gotta come in to his own. Marte like Segura hit the majors running. Worth over 2WAR in 57games in 2015. Plus, defensive rating, so just a small bump in offensive numbers and he's easily worth a roster spot. Far higher ceilings in these two than what Haniger and Segura offer. I don't think Segura could have a better year than what he did in 2016 which was already beyond the ceiling you'd have given him. Haniger while I'm happy with him, I don't have high ceiling attached to him, more higher floor. He did have a remarkable AAA season in 2016 so as like Segura, maybe a small batting stance adjustment and he's taken off? To essentially double your career HR in a season from any prior leaves question to will he maintain that. We'll see. We'll see how it turns out for both teams. At the very least this has the makings of an equal value potential. If Walker is a 3.70ERA pitcher and Segura a 4-ish WAR SS. I'd imagine Haniger/Marte can equal out in comparison. But if ceilings are attained this is going to be a huge win by the DBacks.
  2. That would be an interesting and great signing if you get Hwang. Watching the video, he has gamer written all over him. Laying out to catch a foul bunt on the 1b side and catch it? What was there at least 3 GW HRs? But the play that sold me, a Grounder straight to the SS, who proceeded to watch and wait for the ball to bounce to him and then make a desperate throw that would never get the runner out....Well here's Hwang darting from his 3b position gobbles the ball up 8-10 feet infront of that Standing still SS, and Hwang guns a throw that gets the out at 1b. I like that his numbers appear to progress positive over last 5years. Jumping to 26 on HRs each of last 2 seasons and 2016 coming in 74 less PAs. If Kenta Maeda can be signed for 8years/25million. I'd think we could sign Hwang for 5/20mil. or 4/16. If not even cheaper. I mean, the guy wasn't signed last year. If any part of that gamer appearance is true, he could turn in to a leader of these young future Brewers in 2years. And if he doesn't turn out, at 4mil per year well, that's money during this period that isn't going to affect the payroll. Also, makes trading away reasonable to any other team interested.
  3. They've done #1, and that is extend Counsell as manager. 2. would be taking a look at the 3b Hwang for an international signing, or claiming Plouffe to secure a truer 3baseman 3. Find a sucker to take any of the SPs from the roster not named Davies and overpay for said Pitcher.
  4. So the same qualifies on Brinson. If he magically as it appears reaches the 600AB threshold, he just may reach 20/20. But at 207ABs with 9HR/23SBs completely negates the statement of Keon Broxton being a 20/20 well, 20/45 type of CF if he were to reach 600ABs. At 450 ABs where is Brinson in this 20/20? I'd imagine 12-14/11-15 I don't like Brinson's SB numbers. Being consistently at or near 20 without a Mid 30s and higher season. So you wonder with better Catchers, as well as where he'll be batting in the order, having Villar/Broxton as well as Arcia, if he'll get enough attempts to even steal 20bases. I mean I guess if we are moving to a roster full of 20HR ceilings, you'd expect the lack of power brings speed to steal bases to compensate. In the end, to combat my suggestion of 9 20/20s or better at CF in the Majors this season if they reached 600ABs, isn't any different than the claim of Brinson being a 20/20...He needs 600ABs as well to likely reach that. Feelings haven't changed on Gennett.
  5. If he somehow managed to get to our team to claim, Id do it. Id be disappointed if we didnt do it. He may come with a 10-11million pricetag this year but, hes better than Aaron Hill, and we were able to trade him. Plouffe could tally 30hrs 30 doubles with .250/.340 ba/ob. Has played 1b, so you have a backup to Carter. Or even gives the ability for Stearns to trade if a team is calling him. Hes got a solid floor at a position the Brewers are lacking at.
  6. Remember, hes a pre-Arb paid Pitcher. To worry about 200IP from a 550k? Paid guy. Even if he pitches 25starts total again and to his 3.7 Fip. That is worth well more than 550k. These potential types of same kind of outlook are getting 12-16million in FA market. The excess value Guerra provides a team in dollars just suggests he's on a 1st-2nd round selected player drafted in last 2 seasons. And thats just on this season alone. He'll have another pre-arb season for 2018 to add to that. Smaller market teams have to be all in to him at the chance. Miami, Cincy, Pittsburgh, Minnesota like I suggested make a lot of sense. Even Philly. What is a concern he'll regress, also begs the question, what if he doesnt? What if he pitches under 3.5ERA in 24+starts? You're not getting him for the price being discussed right now.
  7. This is good news. Multiple means for sure a top 50 if not even a top 35 prospect due to over bidding. If not that high than multiple around 65-100. Problem is my guess to teams that would bid on him are the likes of Miami or Minnesota who may not be willing to part with their top 2 or 3 Prospects. Which then leaves outside top 100 rankings but do have some quality that aren't ranked. I'd love for Pittsburgh or Cincy to take a crack for Guerra. Guerra sort of hits that type of older SPs they've used to fill out rotations. Cincy, just has terrible SPs so an upgrade is obvious to trade for. It'll be interesting to see because you'd expect an overpay for Guerra from whoever trades for him
  8. Of course you don't tell Wily about the effects in Player and team control on guys like Hader and Lopez. You're telling him he's got 5starts at time to pitch preferably below 4ERA. But at 4.5ERA+ in a 5start stint is where he's at, we're moving you to the bullpen. He's at over 100 Starts in his career. We are no longer at a, see if you turn it around. You either perform or you get demoted to help the team. So pitch like this is a contract year, because it honestly is. You tell him something like that. Hey this is your future with us in a nutshell. We aren't going to deal with 4.5+ERAs and non quality starts from you for 25-32starts this season. You've got 5. To get another 5. To get another 5.
  9. Something to be considered certainly. How about 5 Starts at a time? Give that whole Team control a chance to add a year before calling up Hader, or Lopez back up to the mix. If he's 4.5+ERA Wily the move is made. I'd tell him this. He's got 5 starts pretty much 4weeks to maintain the numbers. Do it, you keep starting. Don't you get sent to the Minors(if optionable) to pitch Bullpen before we call you back up, or even trade. As in, a team like Philly, or Colorado sees this move is happening, and they see him as SP material still. But as Reilly shown in his initial post, Wily is only good for 18batters. 3rd time around and higher it gets ugly. So I'd give him what was Boyer's attempted role on 2IP Relief outings when needed. Could probably get him 4Innings a week as such. Which I think would put him near 80Innings Especially if you use Hader and or Lopez as 5IP Starter type in the early goings.
  10. If Quintana is traded, it will be for a heck of a lot more than Bickford/Hader/Santana type prospects. He's got a great contract and is a damn good pitcher. I would expect it to be a couple top 50 type prospects and more. You do know Hader is #33 and Bickford is #53 currently according to MLB? And Santana preseason 2015 was #73? And already playing on the ML team helping it? This is why I can't take offering up Santana in trade. Brinson has nothing approaching Santana's Ceiling. In the hypothetical, would you trade Brinson, Hader, and Bickford for Quintana?
  11. Major value? I like the dude, but he does not have major value. I'll remind you of that comment when he gets his full season's chance. Keon Broxton had nothing on the ceiling Santana has, and look at his emergence over the course of just one year.
  12. I'll try to come up with 3moves the front office could make. 1. Nothing. 2. Nothing. 3. Find trade suitors for Kirk N, Scooter, Matt Garza, and or Wily Peralta. Plus the oldest BP guys like Moyer, or Torres. Look, we obviously need Pitching immediately to help, even though we finished in top half of MLB in ERA, 8 of the next 9 below were AL teams which need a partial adjustment getting to bat the DH and all. You're talking about trying to gain something that is scarce in availability. It's why we suggest finding those to take Guerra, Nelson, or Peralta. Even Garza and Anderson. It's a sellers market on Pitchers. I'd think we could offer up Guerra and Brinson and get Aaron Nola or Vince Velasguez from Philly. You'd add immediate SP help that is 7years or more younger. Types you'd expect to pitch better than Guerra moving forward, thinking his was more a fluke and their's one to build on. Without moving Braun, you've got Broxton, Villar, Braun, Santana, Carter, Perez, Arcia, and Catcher for a batting lineup. Which when healthy and growth will produce above average results. Josh Hader and Jose Lopez could return to the staff at any moment. Add Brandon Woodruff. You get Davies, Velasquez or Nola, Nelson/Peralta/Garza to find opening for these 3. Maybe that's all it takes to be competitive above .500 baseball. But my take is on the fact I think we are just to 2018 away from winning above .500 without doing anything drastic but waiting and properly disposing players when there is better or younger awaiting.
  13. No, and No on the idea. First off Santana, Hader, and Bickford have got to be an overpay. This is a sure fire #2 in Quintana. Not an Ace. Second, Santana is a major value here that seems to be disregarded. Let me throw this back at JBriggs, because I can definitely smell his disgust for Santana and the reason Khris Davis was dealt, by the fact he wants to rid of him. I think Santana is an Allstar in the waiting as a batter. Certainly the best bat on the ML team past Braun forthcoming in OPS. Removing him from the team to me reduces the Brewers' chance of competing in 2017 moreso than adding Quintana. Every day Player vs every 5th day. Santana finished off September with 7HRs as a 23year old. From the 8th game on, his OPS never got below .700, even with his injuries. And finished just below .800OPS at .792. For Reverse Reference. It took Davis til game 25 to crack the .700OPS mark and #37 before he stayed above it the rest of the season. Davis was 25 before even making it to the Brewers. Hit that 10HRs in Sept at age 27. Had 8HRs in Sept this year. How does Santana not grow on you or anyone else to like? 23years old, 7HRs in Sept when finally getting regular playing time. Imagine what and where he can be by age 27? Whereas Davis is 5'10, Santana 6'5"...Leverage does some major things, ask Richie Sexson. What a thievery by the White Sox! Oh and going to dismiss some of Justin Turner signing since he is a QO receiver. Would cost the team the 2nd pick they have. TBD when the lottery is handled.
  14. Based on the above. I have to say his trade value is the Waiver Wire. But this is right. I've said for awhile now, SSs are no longer bad position. It's not 2 or 3 good ones and Yuniesky Betancourt becomes your eh, avg if he has a High BABIP. The flood of SSs have become, find a place for them which naturally is 2b. Maybe this is an effect from Steriods being removed from baseball. Guys didn't bulk up to be 3b/1b or Corner OFs who can hit 40HRs on an average year. We switched to lean and athletic/quick and fast. That suits the the Middle Infield and CF. Someone posted a bit ago about 20/20 ML CFs and why kinda the diss on Brinson if he's a Floor of that type. Keon Broxton if given 600ABs would have been something like a 20/45. Brett Phillips is a 20/20 with a cannon arm. There are 9 current CF MLeaguers with 20/20 and better if given 600ABs. And there are another 10 or more hitting the Majors within the next 3years. We have Broxton, Phillips, drafted Corey Ray who I hope reaches 20/20, well even just makes it to the Majors. So to add Brinson who falls right in line with that type wasn't appealing. Remember, Scooter's year included Numbers from the LHP's side, that he'd never achieved before. Batting essentially the same as vs RHP. But he'd never been close before. Regression on his numbers are huge. His value has just become the one that. When your #1 2b goes down for the year, He's a crutch to get you through the season at low cost. With Villar at the ready to take 2b. Scooter becomes AAAA material to the Brewers. And Isan Diaz will be pushing hard to remove Villar from 2b. Really need to find a 1b or 3b prospect
  15. Encarnacion also costs their top draft pick, albeit Something in the 22-26range.(projecting Other Teams Losing #1 pick) Encarnacion has had better seasons than 2016. Very consistent overall in last 5years. If I'm Boston and had a choice, I'd sign him over attempting a trade for Braun. Now, we can come back to the subject, if EE is signed elsewhere and Boston is on the lookout for another hitter. I'm also skeptical because I believe Hanley Ramirez is destined to the DH hole vacated by David Ortiz. Benintendi is someone they'll find a spot to play. Currently it was OF with Betts and Bradley. Travis Shaw fills their 1b need. This means to me they'll be in Justin Turner for 3b. Roster complete.
  16. I know and understand Woodruff is still younger than the competition at AA. But he doesn't fit star and elite younger types for that level. Who are 20/21 at that stage. I like that you see what a TOR would mean SP-wise. Top 20 and 40 type in all of Baseball to fit the bill.(always my argument on Braun how he fits that #1b/2a type) I argue and beg for the types to get in the talk and hype and potential for a TOR. De Leon's numbers don't match up with Woodruff, sure, but is the Stuff/ceiling there and higher? Like I said in my prior post, what is Woodruffs #2 and #3 offerings so he can get through the 2nd and 3rd time through the lineup. Which one is shining now suddenly that wasn't prior to 2016? De Leon doesn't just come with a velocity FB. Slider/Changeup being rated above avg both to pair with the well above avg FB. Calling it off the top of my head, but I feel it was Nate who chimed in for Jake Arrieta before Baltimore traded him to the Cubs. Speaking to the potential and stuff he liked. That is what I am seeking. Ortiz/Bickford/Hader are all positive acquisitions that could turn up one of the types I seek. The fact that it is so few that fit that description is why I want acquire as many of those high ceiling types as possible. You can see the great, great, vast value you get when you trade a mid-summer Low-ERA SP to desperate teams. Scott Feldman netted Jake Arrieta. Keep stock-piling these types, Their success means to the Franchises success, their Trade Value means to the Franchise's future success.
  17. Reality Check. Never Happening. I didn't even read the discussion. Bernie Sanders has a 100-1 odds of winning the Election over that happening. It's on the side of even getting your money's worth. Something that has value here over the likes of the Large Markets. 30million yeah, sure is doable on the books for a year or two. FA Aces don't sign for less than 5years. Let's just remind that the Cubs won the WS with near 190Million Team Payroll. Paying Anthony Rizzo 5million this year. Jake Arrieta 10.7mil this year. Hector Rondon 4.2mil this year. Kris Bryant 652k Kyle Hendriks 541k Addison Russell 527k Kyle Scwarber 522k Javier Baez 521k Mike Montgomery 514k Carl Edwards below 500k That is 10 of nearly all their Star Players on a 25man making a little more than 26million on the salary. According to Fangraphs Who amounted to 30FWAR roughly all combined. They still added 150+million to that core. This Franchise can't do that. And if we fall into that luck of having 10players earning under 30mil for 30WAR? Well, I promise you That isn't happening either because guys like that will be signed and extended early as soon as possible. Right now, we are nowhere near having producers with the bat coming up like Rizzo or Kris Bryant, who happen to play the two posititions our farm system is completely lacking in on future. At least in the realms of even half that kind of production and WAR value. I think what remains of Melvin and FA Pitcher signings is it for Stearns. He'll look to acquire guys like Chase Anderson to help out his staff and build from within. The good money will come in signings like Ben Zobrist/Dexter Fowler. The types that can help the roster every day playing for less than half the money 1 FA Ace SP would cost. Truthfully Stearns is building a great pool to get to pull from on pitching arms. Sorta anti-Cubs rebuild. Think of it this way. Stearns may be building a team in the form of what San Francisco did, by growing pitching and supplementing with position players and Bullpen.
  18. If Phillips is 21/22 why is he eligible for Rule 5 already? I think the 40man filled to an open spot relies on who may be left unprotected. We're 9 so Im thinking full to protect over leaving a spot open. What about Winter meetings and trades? Wont that happen before the Rule 5?
  19. Maybe Fernandez being "In Love with the coco" has some to do with his request to only be drafted by Miami or College bound.
  20. Louis, It's more a feeling of the outside world doesn't give a, "He's a #2 for sure, and if he figures so and such out, we're looking at a #1" It's just always kinda read and reads as, "He has a ceiling to be a very good #2 but the floor of a back end of the bullpen or an inning eating #4 SP." Jorge Lopez, had a TOR type of pitching season for AA in 2015. It led to nothing in 2016. I don't like that Woodruff is 23 turning 24 with no AAA starts to his belt. So, you begin to stare at age 24 in AAA with maybe a Sept start or few bullpen outings. Age 25 we'll say half/half. Leaves last 6years of team control Age 26-31. There are time adjustments, He won't be TOR right from the get go. If he turns out to be a Kyle Hendriks type It'd happen at age 27, 2nd year of Pre-Arb. You got 3rd year Pre-Arb-28, 1st Arb-29, 2nd Arb-30, Last year before FA-31. We all know how everyone feels about 30. So, I worry about his age kinda knocking him down a peg. Is his age a reason for his Success at Brevard and Biloxi? Being on the older side to competition. And then the window is smaller for peak age performing at the ML level. Just throwing hard doesn't make him a TOR potential. Peralta has never put together anything better than a #3SP season to date, and he throws a hard Fastball. It'll help that's for sure on mistakes. But, what is BW's #2 and #3 Pitches? MLB has them as Slider and Changeup with just avg next to their future overings. And then lists his control below average. Now, certainly a 2.3/9BB rate exemplifies much higher control than below average. Just, for his age and the level he was pitching in. What's the FB to Breaking Balls ratio thrown? Just becomes a question is he overmatching his opposition with just his FB? If not, what does he turn to for his secondary pitch? It would be great to have Woodruff and Hader both ascend to TOR types that Milwaukee can start Opening Day 2018. With next year getting some Turns at the ML level, with More to come in 2019 behind them. You'd like to have a sorta "Veteran" to call upon vs. Rookie-Level at that stage.
  21. I've been thinking about the same thing. Like there's a dozen guys that are on their way. The only problem is, don't really have that TOR SP. A bunch of guys you hope turn out like Kyle Hendriks did for the Cubs. Because I swear, when he came up, there was less props being given to him than what Zach Davies had. Please Lord, let the Brewers Organization luck in to one of these pitching prospects having Kyle Hendriks results at the ML level!
  22. Id imagine guys like Crawford would give a big fu to MLB if this were implemented, still calling the strike zone as they wanted. Hearing a ball in ear piece, and calling a strike, to fit "their" zone. There are a lot of concerns. Like the above mention of home team adjustments. Say opening the strike zone 1/2inch and narrowing 1/2inch. Or 1/4. What of the man in the room blurting what the zone dictates? But doesnt call a strike or ball properly to the ump. 2-2s ball just outside but as close to box line and says strike 3. But in truth its a ball. Or 3-1s ball paints the corner but he says ball 4? It cant be 100% correctly called out. The outline of the strike zone and outline of the ball. Itll have instances every game its indistinguishable. Is the ball touching that outline? Is there the smallest of millimeter of space between the outlines?
  23. Go the opposite way. Game 7. Kyle Schwarber is indeed playing. In Top 9 he pinch hits, double switch. He's put in the catcher position, pitcher in Monteros spot Cubs down 1, runners 1st&2nd. KS rips a ball to deepest part of Cleveland's ballpark, with baserunners running, It 1hops the wall for ground rule double. Fowler Id assume next batter strikes out, we go bottom of 9th tied. A hit batter, K, reached on error, K, and missed called strike 3 walk Leads to bases loaded. 1st pitch swinging is a comebacker to Pitcher, and instead of celebrating to go to 10th, Ump calls Catcher Interference on Schwarber who's 1st experience catching in the series, and poor ability at being a Catcher is thrust forever in to the history of Cubs WS curse.
  24. Better yet, runner on 3B forgets to touch home plate. Indians appeal, runner called out. What about the bat breaks and is found to be corked? The ball would be fair in this instance meaning its a Grand Slam win celebration ongoing, only to have tv camera pan over to ump looking at bat and signal the batter out.
  25. So, what that suggests if implemented in 2018 is that Milwaukee should explode it's draft pool this year and target every supposed top 15 in ranks and sign however many they can with no regard to penalties. But alas, I'm sure there are 5 markets free to spend in 2017 that can take a 100million hit without a blink. Watch St. Louis, a supposed "small Market" spend huge and be the type I talk above.
