  1. Plush, I have concern to losing a 1st rd pick this season and it being at #11 the absolute worst pick to have to give up. I am assuming the Brewers win more games next season and pick nearer to 15. Which at least isn't 11 but also 1 year later on the rebuild. I'd just rather have another top 10 pick to add to rebuild. While the premise is Kyle Lohse was a mistake, you do have to note: 7total players #17 and after have made the ML roster for a combined 4.2BWar. Tim Anderson #17 being the highest at 1.9WAR to date. Seth Manaea #34 at 1.7 and Michael Lorenzen #38 1.3. 6players from the 2nd rd have made ML rosters for a -2.8WAR Looking at that draft class and first 10rounds, may be worst ever in my 35years. Kris Bryant(13.1), Jon Gray(2.8), and Kendall Graveman(4.1) are the only players to have earned 2WAR or more
  2. Why the concern with the QO signing There is no reason we should be signing anyone major in free agency. At least we aren't the Phillies who despite having the worst run differential are sitting at #9. Simple. We have the salary space to fit in a QO type of player. We've been claimed to have the #1 Prospect system. While not perfect, having added Susac. There's reason enough to see offense being above avg. Depending on the return on Braun. A SP addition of Urias or DeLeon to mix with Nelson, Davies, Guerra + a 5th SP (the QO or Garza/Peralta/Hader) You have the makings of believing you can win 81+games. At least the makings to believe you won't pick top 10 next season so getting a QO player at a 2nd round cost now makes more sense than doing so the next offseason when it costs your 1st rd choice. So yes I have concern. 3 power bats I could envision worry on is Edwin Encarnacion, Jose Bautista, or Mark Trumbo. Don't really see a SP to be concerned about. But, trade Braun, replace with Puig/Trumbo or Bautista. Move Carter this offseason and you have space for Trumbo or Encarnacion.
  3. So, caddied yesterday for a father/son. suddenly we get in to a baseball discussion as son is checking Sun stats. We talk about being in the playoffs this week and me saying I am the proud owner of a Starling Marte DTD that's now 15days+. Thanks for leaving me with a waste of space. Father chimes in, well I am facing a team who has Jean Segura who has 6HRs this week. I tell him I don't think he had that many in a season last year or 2years ago. Well guy apparently was fibbing me Segura had 5HRs last week, but that's as many as 2014 and 1 less than 2015 seasons. Want to hear something that makes you sick to your stomach. Not only is Segura owning 5WAR, but has grounded in to a Double Play 5 times this season in 642PAs!!! more than 3times better than as a Brewer. Yet, somehow Arizona is behind Milwaukee in the standings having Paul Goldschmidt anchoring that lineup with Segura's production.
  4. We don't have anyone left to trade that can bring a TOR starter. We have no Gomez or Lucroy anymore. Braun isn't getting you a TOR in my opinion. We did well in obtaining Hader Ortiz and Bickford. Hopefully they all work out. While true on contract/FAs to be, doesn't mean the team couldn't trade a Jonathon Villar for TOR prospect should a proper team come knocking. Domingo Santana or even Orlando Arcia. While I don't see any of the three getting that type of offer this offseason, it doesn't mean that by deadline next season they couldn't be seen as that kind of value in trade. This supposed stretch of Losses with Chc/StL has brought about an 8-6 record with a 2-1-1 series record (5-2 vs the cubbies!) Pretty sure we're not losing 90 games, much less the 100 loss potential. 5-7 in last 12games to avoid. Just keep the #10 and don't fall in to 11 is all I ask. I don't want to worry about a QO signing this winter because losing #11pick after drafting Corey Ray could be disastrous 2-4year event of rebuild. 1st rd struggles continue with current management.
  5. Puig=2years of team control. Braun=4years+1option year of team control. Yes I'd take Braun's 4/80 over Puig's 2/16.45 contract and control. There's the deferred payments and already the payment of Braun's signing bonus which for Milwaukee means less than 4/80 impact. The contract on Braun lessens after two seasons so if he production reduces even to an .800 OPS vs .900 he's not grossly making too much money for the production. 4years/80 for other teams, sure can be a risk, but in 2seasons 2/34million isn't as bad a risk should you convince Braun to accept a trade. Maybe we're not as close to contending(Mets-itis of TJs) and Braun in twilight of career seeks out a contender his last 2 seasons+ potential option season. So while he'll have 10-5 rights, he's open to a trade to a contender. Whatever happens, after 2018 Braun can still be traded. by the end of 2018 Puig will become a FA. I put a higher value on what should come back for Braun in trade than the hope and praying value of what Puig can bring back in trade within 250games as a Brewer. Brandon McCarthy's inclusion is of salary swapping. This is a SP with 1 30+GS season and a 4.12 Career ERA/4.05Fip after 11seasons and turning 33. Another 2season team control who doesn't add to the rebuild unless we luck in to Rich Hill type of comeback year, something we're already playing on with Matt Garza. Now add 2prospects and if it's not up there in ceiling like Jose De Leon/Urias what's the point on doing this trade? By taking on 40mil for Puig/McCarthy you're saving 34million overall for '19 and '20. While losing a .900 OPS bat and gaining nothing approaching that? I read on the Yadier Alvarez kind of return. How does that make sense? 32million cost to have him in your system. They have to stick with him while passing on Urias or De Leon. They've already lost a bunch on Hector Olivera's mistake signing. Seeing as Alvarez is producing in the minors, I'd have to see him as untouchable. You'd be responsible for 95million of 2 signings who never took the field in Dodger uniforms. After the Urias/DeLeon/Alvarez trio of SP prospects, you are reducing a lot of ceiling on the SP prospects. If we're not getting one of 3, then Cody Bellinger had better be in play with one of those lower SP prospects being the one you couldn't agree upon final hour. Brock Stewart had great Minor numbers, 4HRs allowed in 121IP. He's at 7!HRs in 27IP at the Major level. .3HR/9 to 3HR/9 ouch. You wonder on the Park or League factor suddenly. But his Minor numbers are suspect to translate to high ceiling/TOR starter. Just losing appeal on a trade without inclusion of one of top 4 prospects in Dodgers organization...counting Urias as 1 of those 4.
  6. And you're a Braun Hater when you ignore his current performance(better than Puig, Ever) due to age and contract. Braun is putting up numbers 5%? Less than the numbers he won MVP with. Yet, 19million a season is too much for that kind of production. Puig is posting numbers the last two seasons 15-20% worse than his 104game-432PA rookie stats. But because of him only turning 26 for all of next season, He's to immediately return to that kind of performance, and exceed it(since he has higher ceiling than Braun) So yeah, I am a hater he doesn't bring anything to the club for me. It's Kirk N-itis. He'll take away games from players who have a future to this organization and higher ceilings than Puig. What's your answer when Puig bats .700ish OPS in the OF the next 2 seasons? What value are you giving him after 2017 and by 2018 trade deadline? To be clear, I highly doubt you'll find a single talent evaluator in all of baseball that will tell you the Brewers have a single position prospect with a higher absolute ceiling than Puig. There are alot of "ifs," but "ifs" are what ceiling is all about anyway. Puig's absolute ceiling is enormous. And yet all he's done is regressed since rookie season. And the Brewers would only have 250? games to see that ceiling and cash in on the rewards for it? Because him reaching that ceiling and playing out that contract leaves the Brewers with nothing but a comp that is to be determined. Again, it goes back to what your Ceiling numbers represent/would be? Taking his best season of .319/.390/534/.925 add 75% to his counting stats and he's hitting 36doubles, 3triples, 33HRs. 213hits. Which isn't beyond what I could say is Isan Diaz's ceiling. Harrison, Orimoloye, Lara and Gatewood have that kind of ceiling. Trent Clark I don't believe has the HR potential of 30+ but certainly the .300+ BA. And with Puig Still awaiting his first 20HR season I can't say 33 is in his reach 4 of 6 seasons to find out 56total or 14 per season has been his result. So again, What is this ceiling of possibility you are hoping for? Time is running out on Puig's contract to see it.
  7. Gotta start having a core to win around. Corey Kneble I thought was going to step up and be lights out but he's regressed from last year. We just got rid of Jeffress and Smith. The problem to me is, who steps up past Thornburg? You gotta give me a Bickford type of return to trade Thornburg. You reset this offseason, find players to take the spots Jeffress/Smith/ and Thornburg were occupying. Kneble, Blazek, Cravy, Suter or Peralta even. Find your next trio that can assume the roles. Otherwise, you'll be seeing us trade to acquire these types in a few seasons, or spend too large a sum for a 70Inning RP.
  9. Are we still arguing that Puig and McCarthy+2 low end prospects for Braun is proper value in return? 2more HRs 5RBI reaching 30HRs once again, but hey he's not on the same level of Puig's ceiling.... Just now 4pts from Puig's Rookie high OPS of .925 that has fallen: .862/.758/.730 Scooter Gennett has a higher OPS than Puig after today. You want to include him to LA to attain the 1 higher prospect like De Leon? Boy lets just wreck this club completely and get AAAA players in return. Puig Lovers, please indicate to me what you even consider his ceiling is in a Brewer uniform? Because his last two seasons indicate a player with 30-35pts higher batting avg than Chris Carter for 20HRs a season less. How was Carter obtained again for how much? He's a malcontent on a World Series contending team since day 1 arrival, how's that going to translate being put to a team who's not expected to win his 2 remaining years before Free Agency. Personally, both Keon Broxton and Domingo Santana present higher ceilings by a big margin to me than Puig possesses. I imagine Santana becoming the Brewers #3 batter when Braun is dealt. There's Phillips and Brinson now who make Puig a 4th OF/platoon bat like LA is approaching him this month. It's just 3 years have gone by since Puig's great rookie season. Name one thing of his that show's he's capable of progressing, vs his continual regressing. I can't find a stat that shows improvement forthcoming.
  10. He is dead weight if we're talking involving Ryan Braun. The value I'd put on him for a trade would be Kirk N., Ramon Flores, Michael Reed, Kyle Wren, and Tyrone Taylor. Dodgers take your choice. Of course LA pulled Puig from waivers with Milwaukee's claim, give a small chance that there is a trade possibility and find out what you can get in return. Saying Puig is batting well in small sample, he's 5 for 18 3HRs. Against SD, Arz, Mia, and at Yankees. HRs of Christian Friedlich, Robby Ray, 8th inning bullpen of Yankees named James Pazos with LA up 6-2 his 2nd appearance on the season. For this September, LA plays just SF and those Yankees in NY of teams above .500. 9games total. Otherwise, it's SD, Arz, Col. Which must be the easiest September schedule in Baseball.
  11. You are delusional if you think Ryan Braun and his contract will be bringing back top quality pitching. Ha except LA in the Puig/McCarthy is taking 40million off of Braun's contract. Sure better be a top pitching prospect or hitter coming back. Yadier Alvarez cost 32million. Yusniel Diaz cost 31million. Better believe taking a 78million contract for 4years and reducing it to 36million is worth a top pitching prospect. Nevermind getting rid of the mistakes named Puig and McCarthy who at this point is worse than Matt Garza. MrTPlush said: Then why is he still a Brewer? Why are we needing to pick up $30mil+ in salary? Why does no one want him for just the contract no prospects? It actually sounds like the total opposite is true. Not sure how people think Braun still has tons of value and has a team friendly contract. Neither is very accurate. Next response by MrTPlush That is great and all but he already has power to block most trades. The only teams not on his no trade list that are even possible landing spots are the Dodgers and a long shot the Giants. If a trade doesn't work out with the Dodgers he might as well have 10-5 rights. I am simply saying a trade may not materialize period if the Dodgers go a different route which is a very possible thing. I don't think he is all but gone as the off season will give them many other good options. You seem to understand, but don't. He has the power to block the trades to all but 6teams. Atlanta I understood in an article was blocked by Braun in a claim/trade. Now put Arizona, San Diego, LA Angels, and Miami as 4 of those 6 teams and why bother claiming him this season? None are in the Playoff picture. This leaves 2 teams and 1 of them claimed and tried to trade for Braun. San Fran, well they traded Bickford and Susac. I'd find it hard for Milwaukee to see any ideal prospect to gain worthy of Braun. The two teams had discussions before the deadline so they knew what Braun's value was to Stearns to just know. If we claimed him, He's pulled back and are inability to please Stearns' demands ends all there is to be discussed. What purpose is it of the other 23 teams to claim Braun, when they are on his no trade clause? I feel Jose De Leon was the prospect piece unable to agree upon. This was a prospect pitcher who with Hill, Kazmir, and Kershaw had the door open to be called up but wasn't before September. I think his possible involvement in the trade is why he was kept down.
  12. Taking 23million salary owed to a guy with 57IP in last two seasons Combined! and Only 1 season above 25 Games started/170+IP is worth something. You add 17.5million in taking on Puig's salary and you're at 40million over 2 seasons. Combined WAR of McCarthy/Puig last 2seasons combined....2.2BWar. And that's with lesser of salary on Puig. Puig costs 4million more the next 2 seasons than the barely above Replacement stats he's put up the last 2 seasons. At best between the two McCarthy and Puig put up an 8.5BWar. Braun 8.2BWar in last two seasons combined. Puig does not offer the higher ceiling. Peak Braun was when he was 26/27. Puig is heading in to that age with stats that don't suggest he will touch that ability. Pitchers learn how to pitch a guy. Where his weakness is or where to pitch to have softer contact. Understand he has maxxed at 19HRs his Rookie year and 16HRs when he had 640PAs. 21 total last 2 seasons in 637PAs. Pretty strong evidence, that power he shown in rookie year has been diminished to a barely 20 HR season expectation. Something Braun exceeds every single season given that amount of PAs. More SBs better BB rate better SO rate. for Braun today not Peak Braun, than Puig. And remember, we're doing them a favor by getting rid of Puig who is a clubhouse cancer and #1 pitcher in Baseball disgusts having as a teammate. If A Bellinger or De Leon, or even Urias isn't part of an offer, then Milwaukee is far better off keeping Braun. Because any less of an offer isn't helping 1 bit of the future for Milwaukee. In 2years Braun's contract reduces. Puig and McCarthy? FAs.
  13. Well currently 10th after 7-3 in last 10games. Atl 6-4 in last 10 only other below us who's played above .500 in last 10. Angels 5-5. Other 7teams worse. Can pin us now for 7th-10th. We've outplayed bottom 6 to point you don't fathom losing 4+more games rest of the way over them. 5game lead on 11th so 10th is fairly secure. That's all I hope for is a top 10 pick so if we do sign a QO player we don't lose the first pick. That is the process back in '14 of what happened. We won too many games and found a way to pick outside the top 10.
  14. That contradicts your standing belief. So here is the chance to have a player get 15games of MLB experience and have that experience to be on the Opening day roster. But you're convinced a prospect should never be on the Opening day roster if they've never had any MLB experience. To gain a year of team control is 11 or so days. Calling up now makes it about 35 days. Now, you are basing the non-contender portion of opinion on as the team can be constructed this next season at the moment. There is an offseason of trades and Free Agent signings that can completely switch the outlook of non-contender to contender. There is money that can be spent for the Team salary. If the team had 115mil committed for next season, your assumption on this would be accurate to leave a top prospect for team control as you're not looking to become a contender based on standing pat. But, this team will have near 60million or more that can spend to attain talent. Should they do that, going in to next season, you'll be heralding If Stearns was planning on spending and creating a team to be a contender next season, Why did he leave guys like Hader in the minors? Who's now thrust in to the Opening day Rotation on a Contender? What kind of signing could possibly make the team a contender next season right? One they could afford because Talent costs $$$ LA added Kenta Maeda 8years 25million. He's 13-8 3.38ERA 26GS 146.2IP to this point. Hyun-Jin Ryu was 6years 36million signing. 14-8 30GS-192IP 3.00ERA his first season after signing. Both certainly major Impact to what was/will be Playoff teams. Ryu 2nd most IP behind Kershaw on that 2013 team. Maeda Leads LA in IP for this season's Dodger team.
  15. Braun must be as good as gone. To take Cordell after Brinson/Phillips and Corey Ray draft pick. Santana. Broxton. Is there a new Defensive shift I'm unaware about? 6 OFs 1 Infielder Pitcher and catcher? Maybe that's the new "Tank strategy" I'm not a fan of another toolsy meh type OF. Numbers aren't elite in any single category. Only positive is 6' 4" but he's fully grown at 24. So his body isn't growing in to more power to project. Just seems too ordinary for a position the team has a dozen ordinary types within it's minors. Add the necessary need to add to 40man for a AA highest reach guy, and makes this even more disappointing.
  16. Just for comparison sake. The Pirates traded Francisco Liriano, Plus Reese McGuire, and Harold Ramirez for Drew Hutchinson who had all of 12IP this season. McGuire is in the top 100 rankings sans a .700OPS Minor League career. And Ramirez who had a top 100 ranking by BA preseason. Kinda makes Garza's performance and money owed showing that type of value. It'll cost us a top 100 prospect to even trade him. Yikes
  17. To be fair, Albert's 32 year old season might've been his 42 year old season. You never know. Ryan Braun could still be taking some good PEDs and ready to miss an entire year. Your turn. Point is there are many examples of guys who fall off a cliff in their 30s. Even more that decline due to chronic injuries. It's no sure thing for Braun, but enough where teams clearly don't think $80mil is worth the risk at this point. What's Daniel Murphy's excuse? 31 and having a career year by near +20% on his career numbers. What about David Ortiz? His worst 30s number is .794OPS and at 40 is above 1.0+ when he's supposed to retire. Albert Pujols yes did have a quick decline that has settled in to a bat still producing above avg. A good part of his decline was his foot issues. Now, if he weren't being paid so much but closer to Braun's salary, his salary would fall in line to his offensive production. That is Pujols' bounceback from his injuries to be a .260/.320/.450 30-40HR hitter. Braun has bounced back from his injuries and is showing what he can do which is Career norms. So injuries+age and he's not dropped off now with either. 1month away from the offseason to heal up his body some more. His bat may stay the same as this season,(since he's producing to career norms) but that heal up may allow him to play 6-10games more next season. Makes him even more valuable with his production
  18. You don't like the Gomez and Fielder comparables? Ok, how about David Wright? Josh Hamilton? Adam Dunn? There is absolutely no way you can predict with certainty that a great player with an injury and PED checkered past won't hit a wall in his mid 30s and decline significantly and suddenly. Not even if you type it in all caps. Adam Dunn? come on what's he got? Like 1500 more Ks than Braun? Josh Hamilton. Not 8 years of consistent batting like Braun. 3year run only. David Wright is simply injuries that continue season after season post 30. He's never proven over 5months of play to have come back. As to McCutchen, 1 poor season to a great career. You're looking at being 10% down on his numbers over his career numbers. HRs are on pace for normal. Doubles and walks are a little down. Mind you he isn't even 30 yet. Give an offseason to review tape, or adjust his swing. Maybe he has a personal problem we don't know about. Whatever it is, for a 10% decline in numbers I'd wait for a 2nd season of that performance before officially calling it a rapid decline. We wrote Segura off, and he's batting the best ever in his career with a minor hand adjustment in setup supposedly.
  19. Any day now we will get our answer!
  20. Lead is only on #10 and beyond. When you posted this we would have been in #7. Last nights loss with Tampa win put us at #6 by .5 game. 1game ahead of 8 and 2games ahead of 9. 10 is 4games ahead. The bullpen+Defensive errors have lost more games than Lucroy's loss has. Last 2 nights it's been Knoebel. Boyer a game in Pitts series. September Callups Help on the way. But, realistically with the schedule of Stl/Pitts/Cubs/@Tex 21 of 30games is a daunting task to likely exceed 10-20 record. 6games vs Cincy heads up going to be a battle of who can lose vs. win. Hopefully by the time Col series to finish season comes they won't be able to pass Milw in the standings. Have a great chance to get to #3 and with another 10-20 in 30 games, you may be able to wonder on #2 should Atl or Minnesota fall in to some wins. 10-20 means a 66-96 record to finish the season. Below my 70win but above others 100losses "easily"
  21. Since 2015 began, Braun's lowest OPS calendar month was .716. Hes had as many 1.0+months as hes had .716-799 months. This battling these injuries and aging concerns. That FA pricing post above how many below .800OPS got paid? Braun's lowest calendar Avg. this year is .287 Putting characters like Gomez or Fielder aging declines sudden is poorly comparable. Take a 2year wonder who corkscrews himself in to the ground, or a Hefty long believed wasnt going to Age well 1b/DH? Braun is approaching 10years of performance better than both consistently. I hate to break it those awaiting this downturn but ITS NOT HAPPENING IN NEXT 3 OR 4YEARS THROUGH HIS CONTRACT. A GOAT Brewer hitter who's as consistent as he is, wont fall off precipitously. Top 20s Hitter in Baseball post 30, post thumb/back/neck issues. I just am tired of reading this concern 5months after it was a concern. How many months does he have to perform at the plate to understand drastic falloffs arent a month away?
  22. Well Seems to me he would have been kept down long enough for him to now be a Super 2 and 1 more year of team control. Had 33days to start on the year and was down at least 55days so he'll be around 3.160 and not have gone past 4. Wily is probably a non-tender candidate, so I don't think his service time is much of an issue. As far as I can tell he's still arbitration eligible in 2017 and 2018 and scheduled for free agency in 2019. 2.8million earned on his 1st Arb. I'd expect him not to be because teams will pay 4-6million easily at the potential Innings eater SP. Arizona/Atlanta/Philly/and SD in the NL I'd see taking the chance on him. Minnesota/Chi Sox/Houston/Seattle in the AL I'd see doing so. Somebody finds an improvement and now he's cheap for '17 and '18. Gotta remember the FA pitching market this offseason is said to be terrible and maybe that is partially why teams are loading up on good Bullpen arms because 7Inning SPs won't be there and you are left with 5-6Inning types who give up an added run or 2.
  23. Nah, not fouled. Replay on bat checking across half the plate pretty obvious he went. The ball clearly changed direction before it hit the ground meaning it hit the bat. And the plate is not what determines a swing or not. In fact, there are no written rules for what determines a strike on a check swing. That's funny. I seen no change of the ball's direction it bounced off the plate and the view of the bouncing ball on the plate gave great angle of head of bat passing through half of the plate. Anywho, I turned the game on top of the 7th 2outs. Final 13outs Brewers win 4-0 I've just become the new PFx1
  24. Nah, not fouled. Replay on bat checking across half the plate pretty obvious he went.
  25. Just for further reference: 2015: .960 OPS at home, .835 on the road 2016: 1.065 OPS at home, .771 on the road I can understand the 2016. But 17runs positive last year vs 27runs for Bryant? So you reward BBs more than detrimenting Ks? 89 more Ks than Arenado? Arenado puts the ball way more in play than Bryant did. 6more Sac Flys Productive outs on Arenados part. Just seems beyond wrong a 42HR-130RBI .287BA hitter is worth just 17runs more than avg.
