And hitting .241/.311/.408 at age 29 MLB is trending younger. Re-signing/extending a lot of our players is part of the old paradigm and very much a Melvin move. I doubt we'll see Stearns do a heckuva lot of that. Controllable young talent is how you sustain success in today's MLB. After 5 years, trade a player for two top prospects and keep on rolling. Not to say a Brewer player won't get extended. But you don't stockpile Middle Infielders & athletic outfielders if your plan is to extend guys a lot. I would think if they do extend someone it'll be a pitcher, and they'll prioritize money towards international signings. Guess you dont allow 1 poor season when amongst MVP type prior to that. Howd that turn out for Baltimore and Chris Davis last season? Heck The Brewers and Lucroy this season? And to the point of Mif or CF types abundance. 50% of 1st rd picks make it. Well worse after thar. Coulter, Taylor, Roache are just a few Id expect never play more than 3years in the majors maybe accumulating a total of 200games combined. Until you find a perrenial 3+WAR player for a half dozen of years, there can never be enough SS and CF bodies. I expect Arcia to be one of those types, but maybe hes just a 2WAR Definsive SS. You get a 3+WAR SS upcoming and move Arcia to 2nd or another team. No one in the pipeline has Arcia potential at SS it would appear at least 3years from now. Lucky to a type like Arcia to watch these upcoming seasons. Hope he makes a Sportscenter top 10 on 1st ML game

Late to the party. You gotta decide if you have 2decent keepers still while trading Urias. How big a bat is Rizzo vs now. Personally w/o looking at the players on your team. Id trade for Rizzo. Winning a League completely ought to be about 4seasons of buyins. This years money back and the next 3years. Probably even more. Urias could get hurt, but really, hes still going to be limited in IP next season. You wouldnt be trading 2seasons of him away but 1.85 if healthy. If hes limited next year, itll occur during the playoffs. So trade him. That owner if he is competitive along with your team, and just so happens to face you come playoffs. Hes scrambling for SP, September callups. Youll be looking forward to another title.

Service time is never moot until he has the years in to be a free agent. If you do an extension with more arby years left, you will get a discount from the player (he is getting financial security), as you are further out from free agency and you are buying out less free agent years. Do you think a five year extension would cost the same for a player that is one year away versus two years away from free agency? No, the player that is further away from free agency is going to get less. Thanks on the spell check edit. So, he's turning 22 on the 4th. We control him then another 6years after this season. Means he'd be 28 in the midst of that. Arcia gives off the impression of a slight level up on Alcides Escobar who debuted younger than Arcia will be by around 100days. Signed a team friendly extension with 2 options taking him to age 30. That's what I'd expect on Arcia. If he's every bit the prospect we believe him to be, I'd imagine by 2019 offseason after 2.35 seasons the Brewers give him that kind of extension. Probably some amount higher money-wise but still. Well within reason in overall pay. If Arcia doesn't want to take the early payday, well, the team has a lot in the pipeline, I'd imagine come 2nd year of Arb he'd be on the trade agenda. Or maybe he's so good you extend regardless. pay him 20mil in seasons. Braun will be gone off the books by the time any kind of higher salary would begin. You are investing in results and production. I'm expecting a major invest for him. of that 3-6year extension. Of course injuries come in to play but 3-6 years is through 31-34 years of age. I don't see that monetarily becoming an issue. Teams find a way these days one way or the other. Andrew McCutchen extended 2years beyond team control for a tops of 14.5million for 2018. Marte appears to be 3years extended, and Polanco already appears to be 2years past. Our market is bigger than Pittsburgh so lets go with what they did and extend 1 more year affordably. Either way, you're playing him at 30years of age when everyone around here wants to begin disposing of that aged players. I'd get it more if he were 20 for this season turning 21 next season. But he's turning 22 9years takes him post 30.

I don't think Garza's contract is an issue for Atlanta. Add in that 1/5mil option and you have tradebait easily. A team could simply move him to the bullpen at 1 or 5mil. But if he found a way to be a 4ERA SP that's a steal.

There it is. Isan Diaz at .270 with more power is exciting and worthy. Arcia near .270 means he's not ready? He's ready come on. His Batting avg dipped to .262 but he's now as someone posted earlier in last 28days kept it in the upper .260s .262-.272 So no longer on the decline and you know what to expect. Part of the reason for his high ranking besides his defense is that his bat is expected to transfer up to the Majors without much decline. 12 of his last 25hits since July 5th his .262 low are XBH. That is an improvement from his 22 of his first 83 hits being XBH. 48% vs 26.5% Service time is moot when there's a strong likelihood you sign him to a 3-6year extension beyond team control. For those saying he's not ready what did you expect from him numbers wise? .285? .315? At over 400 PAs that's 14 hits for .285. He's very close to his career average line of .282/.339/404/.742 I'd imagine we see .250/310/.375 from him the rest of the season but showcasing his defensive skills. Talk about service time but to me he's getting 29 more days service time for us to be a fan of than not. You weren't going to keep him from September play and any kind of .275+ Sept, heck just .250+ and you'd be having a lot of explaining to do why he didn't start the year in 2017 season. I've fully expected this callup, and believed it was going to happen with a Gennett or Perez trade. But that didn't happen. Perez becomes a Super Utility. He is sitting at .929 Fielding Pct at 3b with 7Errors in 31games started/280+Innings For reference the Pirates Freese/Kang have 8errors in 875Innings, Cubs Bryant 7errors in 511Innings, Cardinals Carpenter 8 in 408Innings, and Reds Suarez 16 in 840Innings. Perez is behind these guys in the division though its close to Suarez and Carpenter, but Carpenter provides quite a lot more offensively. You get to see how Villar handles 3b, Perez some RF and Scooter is approaching a good Offseason trade or Perez depending how it all goes. But Arcia he's ready if not then you have the precedence to keep him down next year til midseason. But I expect him to show he belongs.

You get an extra month of him I'm happy. You could in no way just bench him in September when AAA finished. You'd start his clock then and how does that work come start of next season? Are you going to play the Wait through May game to get his clock back to as if he started day 1 of 2017? If you want to appease fans, then they should have awaited to the homestand and not this road trip right? Expect him to play every day now til he becomes a Free Agent, if that even happens. He's about what? 40days removed from Super 2 status. If Villar hadn't been such a Godsend offensively this season, I'd imagine this would have happened back then.

So we were Melvin'd? Or is it Doug,d? We can probably assume the ptbnl is one of the four from that list. I recallsomeone likely wildcat saying Payano had caught attention of the scouts. Hes also now one of DL prospects currently. Obviously the choice here among BF would be Mendez. And that would really appease me on this deal then.

Derek Norris to the Brewers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to pogokat's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Susac pretty much took care of this concern. Surprised Norris wasn't moved. Atlanta Waivers trade I foresee -
Going through MLBs 30 prospect list. Matuella, Payano, and Payano are shown DL or Inactive. Yes two Payanos-Pedro and Victor You get 2 months to scout them if they make appearances. Looking apparently Matuella is said to be done for the season after 1 start. So Leaves that idea to the Payanos. One is Righty 21-6'2" one is Lefty. 23-6'5"

Nobody would that I can think of. Wily Peralta? Garza is an obvious thought, but my thought is the Braves would claim him. They are looking to speed up their rebuild as evidence of Lucroy interest. Garza would be a chance to have that occur. A 2month run like Miller's season long run would create a lot of trade potential for them. And if not, they have a Vet to log some innings. Braun too wouldn't get past Atlanta. They had some interest in Braun but short lived.

What are the rules on PTBNLs re: 25-man, 40-man, 2016 draftees? I remember reading on here somewhere they have to be eligible to be traded at the time the original trade went down, so basically no 2016 draftees. Gallo isn't a 2016 draftee. No Draftees this year can be ptbnl until after the World Series in a trade.

Basic agreement expires after this season I believe. I can't imagine the MLBPA isn't going to push for changes to the current QO system, given how it has limited player movement. It may not change, but there's certainly no guarantee it will stay the same. No matter what they come to on agreement, there is going to be some kind of compensation on a Free Agent Loss. There is no way they rid free agent compensation completely. Lucroy is certainly worth a Comp when lost to Free Agency.
-
We need more, if there's not more I want to riot! Again, as what happened with Gallardo, the Rangers will offer a QO to Lucroy after next season. So it's 3 from us for 2 Prospects? Like here you go have Jeffress for free. in my opinion. Brinson has never excited me. Toolsy but nothing outstanding. Phillips presented more ceiling to me. He dropped with the same kind of year Brinson is having who didn't. Ortiz I'm thrilled with. That 2 for Lucroy makes sense to me. So nothing for Jeffress, which I thought was to be in high regard in order to be traded away. Nothing isn't that return.

My small writeup on Bickford before '15 draft: 27th ranked on MLB at time 27 Phil Bickford rhp JC of Southern Nevada Nev. I've liked him overall. The FB velocity ups/downs is a small concern at College age. Give Hooper/Chalmers the nod over to this point but Bickford ahead of Lambert. After the first 15 players I ranked him 1st in next wave of SPs. MLB had Nathan Kirby ranked just ahead of Bickford at 26 fwiw, can't forget about him along with Ponce and Hader. Definitely happy about this trade. Susac I feel is a quality Catcher and this is the type of Catcher to trade for, ML ready who was blocked by the best Catcher in baseball Posey. I'll miss Smith, but this is strong enough offer w/o him getting Saves. I'd have been happy if this happened this offseason if Jeffress was moved and Smith closed to finish the season to show what he has. Good Job here.

Ranger Proposals
brewcrewdue80 replied to BrewCrewBlueDevil's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I'll go with Gallo/Ortiz/Michael De Leon and Pedro Payano for Lucroy and Jeffress. That's my expectation. So likely Yohander Mendez, Leody Taveras, and Ryan Cordell for Lucroy and Jeffress. -
Braun trade value now
brewcrewdue80 replied to proudsoftballdad's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Braun>Phillips a tail off from Braun is Phillips best season. Huge mistake on the Reds Part to not see the rise of the Middle Infield bats and quality now around the infield(except 1b) OF is becoming the 2b/SS/3b of 5years ago. lacking power and .800+OPS ability. -
The Brand New Lucroy Trade Thread
brewcrewdue80 replied to splitterpfj's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Sounds like what the Twins just did. About 5 years of losing, and then sold their fans for years on "you just wait for 2016-2017 when these top prospects are going to come up and take us to the promised land." How'd that work out for them? I understand eying the A/AA talent and the premise behind it, but this isn't a vaccum and we really should focus on the player, not where they're at. If Gallo (as an example) pans out, we have a heck of a trade chip to pawn off in a year or two, or possibly a franchise player. The glitter and allure of projectable talent is just too tempting for some. Sorry but I don't want to tolerate 5-6 years of losing either, and neither should anyone else. If the "plan" doesn't work we are ruined for at least a decade. I'm all for targeting upside in the lower parts of the minors, but don't want to rule out the upper minors either. The part on Minnesota. Well they have some hitting, it's pitching they don't have, and why Pitching needs to be acquired in a Lucroy trade, which wasn't with Cleveland. Just Ortiz alone is a better deal than what Cleveland gave up. Minnesota was over .500 last season because pitching did better. We'd likely be at or above .500 if Nelson/Peralta/Anderson pitched to expectations with the success Davies/Guerra has given. -
The Brand New Lucroy Trade Thread
brewcrewdue80 replied to splitterpfj's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
That's a fair point but perhaps that's exactly the reason for it. A catcher who can be a significant offensive contributor is a much bigger upgrade in your lineup than someone who hits at the same level at another position. No because of what I said about the best of the best Catcher prospects. D'Arnaud a top 5 prospect, has a few injuries and he becomes ordinary. Mike Zunino another top 15 prospect and he hasn't approached any of the numbers you'd expect for that ranking. Demoted often. Swihart got to the MLB level and has become a non-Catcher. Kurt Suzuki in 2014 age 30 was an AllStar having 2HR and 309/.365/.396/.760 batting line by that game and finished season with 3HRs .288/.345/.383/.727 Batting line and 2.2WAR in 131Games played. What did that get him? a 2/12mil contract with a 6mil option immediately following that season. Age 30. Point is that an AS type catcher in his 30s can be had for less than 10million a season. Suzuki has .9WAR on this season. Find your guy in FA or trades when you know 100% they can stay behind the plate. Draft them later or international sign them. There just aren't elite hitting catchers, theyre the unicorns in baseball. Maldonado at .202/.330/.357 has a positive WAR offensively! and .8WAR overall on the season. Found him when Angels released him in 2007 a 24th round pick. Manny Pina is a PTBNL acquisition for KRod. We'll see how that works out. But he played a few games for KC 5years ago and remains behind the plate today, so he is a Catcher to be and not a Coulter/Nottingham(if that comes true) Pitching always wins. All it takes is 1 TOR type to put a team around the Playoffs. -
The Brand New Lucroy Trade Thread
brewcrewdue80 replied to splitterpfj's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Really don't understand the Catcher Wants. It's the least productive position offensively in baseball. D'Arnaud was a top 5 prospect. Few injuries and he's a scrapheap catcher nobody here wants. Already a number of posters here have convinced themselves, Nottingham can't become a Catcher and has to move from the position. Yet, he was a prize of the Khris Davis trade. If Nottingham can't Catch at Catcher. That trade is a complete Fail. no matter what Derby produces(unless he become TOR type) Now you all that are chiming for another Catcher to be included in trade? You haven't learned. There was a post that Lucroy as the Brewers' catcher according to Fangraphs? Amounts to the Best Brewer Catcher of ALL TIME in amount of WAR. Almost Half a Century of Catchers and Lucroy's numbers are the best help to the team. The odds are ridiculously low Any Catcher will amount to what Lucroy amounted to. Give me the Bubba Derby's over any Catcher in a trade please! The odds are they'll be more than twice the value any of the Catchers in return ever provide. I mean if a guy can bat .330+ in AAA and not appease you to replace Lucroy. What in the world will appease you? .215 is a standard Catcher bat. .240 if you're lucky is a hitting catcher. Any above makes them All Star worthy potentials. Literally, the moment you say Nottingham won't be a catcher. Well, at .232/.295/.327 bat plays absolutely nowhere else but Pinch Hitter or AAAA guy terribly. So lets continue to push for Catcher with our 1st round picks and acquire in trades. This rebuild and non-World Series title Organization will continue for a long time trying to build from the Catcher position versus the SP position.
