This thread has shifted from the Segura to Mets to Gomez for Syndergaard trade. Which as stated above, Juan Lagares is holding down the CF position. Segura is 3.5years of SS team control. Whereas Gomez is just 1.5. Now certainly I think Gomez' 1.5 years is more valuable than Segura's 3.5. It's just the proposed cost seems too much. The Mets are also a team that holds on to their money vs giving wild contracts(Cuddyer's notwithstanding) and Gomez is likely gone after 2016. I'm thinking the Mets when they gave Cuddyer that contract where banking on filling a need of theirs by trading away Niese or Gee. Only then, Wheeler went down to TJ and that 6th SP became their 5th. The Mets are still a team that have Niese/Gee in 2016 so without Colon and Wheeler returning they are going to have 6 SPs and Matz being a 7th. So I really feel this is a time to get him if possible. They hold on to him through the season, all it takes is a non-offer to Gee/trade of him to open the door for Matz to take the mound. It could be interesting in that I think the Mets could try to move Daniel Murphy giving way to Wilmer Flores at 2b and then opening the door for them to add Segura at SS. What playoff team could use a veteran 2b? There in could be Milw's 3way team trade. Yankees? Kansas City? Angels? Padres?

Marlins GM to now be just M
brewcrewdue80 replied to jerichoholicninja's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I'm thinking, clear case of Loria saying, you put this team together you manage it if it's supposed to be a winner. And of course when he fails Loria will Can Jennings at the end of the season. Which I'd understand personally. They gave away Jake Marishnick for Jared Cosart I believe. Only to have to have Mike Morse or Ichiro Suzuki play at 1b/OF where Marishnick could play. Gone is Heaney. Gone is Colin Moran. And it's like Milw in that their Pitching hasn't produced to the talent level you expect from them. They still have Jose Fernandez to return. With Gordon/Yelich/Stanton, I think the team can be lethal and get on a high winning streak run. Cosart/Latos are far better than what they've performed thus far. I just don't get what Miami was doing by trading for Cosart last season(Fernandez was already TJ'd) for Marishnick/Moran+draft pick+ considering they now have Morse at 1b. -
2B Scooter Gennett to AAA; Corey Knebel to MLB
brewcrewdue80 replied to torts's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Excited Knebel is getting the call up. It's great that when you read the in game threads, the Brew's among others were calling for Gennett to be sent down. And it occured. I'm also tired and adamant that Kintzler doesn't belong on the ML roster. Hopefully Knebel phases him out. One might wonder, is Knebel's move a move like that of Kris Bryant or recently called up Maikel Franco. Where he's now spent enough time down in AAA for Milw to gain the 6+years of team control? I'm with Plush in why doesnt' Sardinas just move to 2b when Segura returns? It is alarming at what Gennett has become with the Ks, and easily can begin to wonder if he's ever really going to be an everyday starter at 2b anymore for anyone. The fact that he's getting to play for Colorado Springs may be of help for him but a hindrance on diagnosing if he's actually corrected himself, of is Colorado to blame for a return to .300 or better hitting? -
Jonathan Lucroy Trade Challenge
brewcrewdue80 replied to Matt Breen's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I'm always trying to play the other's team GM when making proposals. I like the proposal on a value for the Brewers. I'm just wondering, haven't the Angels basically been tied to attempting to acquire young arms since the Grienke trade? I feel like Heaney and drafting Newcomb is proof to be working towards that. Maybe the deal is done if that bullpen arm is Corey Knebel. I'd get the Angels swapping out Newcomb's future SP potential for Knebel to be used this season to help immediately. As would Lucroy. Heaney likely doesn't suit competing on an Angels playoff roster this season. Perez looks statistically like a decent get for a catcher replacing Lucroy. As to Kubitza, it looks to me like the Angels are worse off for 2016 at 3b than Milw is. I'd have to think Kubitza is already the 3b for the Angels penciled in for 2016 barring injury. You remove Kubitza you really don't get the kind of prospects back from the Angels then. And they really only have pitching for the most part then for prospects Really not a lot of depth showing up for their system at all. Pretty much this deal would about wipe them out! LOL. I'd see Melvin doing the deal as well as the Angels if you took Heaney,Newcomb,Perez and CJ Cron for Lucroy/Knebel. I know I'd rather let Clark/Rogers play 1b once Lind is sent away. But is Melvin going to go that route, because you know Rogers won't have the history of 1b playing time for him to maybe have gained confidence, same for Clark. Cron may just be the type who Melvin sees as a buy-low upside 1b to attain long term. -
Why would you take Garza over Gallardo straight up? Gallardo is over 2 years younger, better, and more durable. I can't see any advantage to Garza over Gallardo. How long will Gallardo's arm last? It's not just that. Garza to me can go deeper in to games with his quality outings. Gallardo just doesn't do that. Since the start of 2013 Gallardo has pitched in the 8th inning 3 times. Garza 10. Including 2 complete games. That's in 59 Starts compared to 71 for Gallardo. I want the Starting pitcher that can take the ball and win a game for the team. Not someone who no matter what will have to rely on his bullpen for 6outs at minimum 96% of the time. Gallardo isn't the same pitcher he was 2008-2012. His velocity has dropped/ Ks per 9 are lower; Garza works with more velocity at his older age than Gallardo with a better K/9. Considering that drop and lack of ability to pitch past the 7th inning? Yes Garza to me is a better pitcher than Gallardo, it's not even close. Gallardo essentially is only a solid #3 with #4 fallbacks. He provides 0 ability at being a #2 due to the fact he doesn't go complete games...ever anymore. Garza can at least take the mound and be a #2 what? 17% of the time at minimum. The only reason Garza is a Brewer is at the worry of his durability. If he averaged 30starts or more a season he'd be making 20mil/yr right now. Gallardo will maybe reach that kind of 20/mil a year due to his durability not because he's a better pitcher than Garza at this stage.
-
How So? You seem to be thinking I'm talking in regards to Porcello only. Even if it's an overpay, Porcello's price tag is something a number of the pitchers I mentioned will base their asking price for. And that is where Garza's 8mil cheaper price would come in. Would you rather have Garza or Gallardo? straight up, I'd take Garza. If Gallardo though like I mentioned goes 27+ starts under a 4ERA in the AL, I don't see how he doesn't toss his worth being 20mil/year. Kazmir, the way he's been going, He's gotta be looking at 20mil per year if he can get that 27starts+. And it's not just the 8mil cheaper, but what about giving these pitchers 4/5years?
-
Why do you keep saying this? He got 4/82 and he's only 26 and improved each of the last three years he was pitching. Copied directly from BR.com: 2015 26 Boston Red Sox $12,500,000 5.170 2016 27 Boston Red Sox $20,125,000 2017 28 Boston Red Sox $20,125,000 2018 29 Boston Red Sox $21,125,000 2019 30 Boston Red Sox $21,125,000 30 Boston Red Sox $21,125,000 Earliest Free Agent: 2020 Career to date (may be incomplete) $36,231,000 Does not include future salaries ($103.6M) Hate to be the one to say it but the guy appears to be right. Sorry Ely. BRef as your graph shows has 2 years at age 30 both earning 21.125mil thus where they are off. Either way Porcello is making about 8mil more than Garza per season the next 2 seasons. With the future Free Agency coming up and the price it is for pitching/length of years. Garza's deal has to be saving money for the pitcher he is. With the upcoming Free Agency of Starters, I think by July the value of such pitchers should be taking shape. And guys like Scott Kazmir or Yovani Gallardo may pitch well enough where they are going to be commanding 16mil+ per season....Or maybe they will be pitching just crappy enough you see a 12.5Mil pricetag roughly next to their names. Brett Anderson, Mat Latos, older guys like Doug Fister, Wei-Yin Chen and Hisashi Iwakuma. These are a bunch of Matt Garza type pitcher abilities and based on health issues like Anderson's or prices again on Latos or Fister to Years involved on a Chen/Iwakuma deal. Netting Garza for 2/25mil/3/30-38mil may seem a better route to go come that time. I mean if Porcello is worth 20mil+ free agency years, Latos, Gallardo, Kazmir, Fister and even Anderson would seem types that can ask for that amount of money if they pitch 27+starts and under a 4ERA this season. Some likely at 5years length. 8mil can net you something decent in Free Agency or in buying out arb years for team controlled players. So what you gave up a prospect? You were able to sign a Bobby Parnell or Tyler Clippard to have in the back end of your Bullpen and have Matt Garza pitching for you vs just Matt Latos at 20mil a year.

Segura hitting the DL (5/13); Sardinas from AAA to MLB
brewcrewdue80 replied to torts's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I don't believe Sardinas is heralded for his bat. Rather his defense with future growth with the bat(adding muscle would be nice) If you had to field a SS with .635ops but plus defense at SS or .700ops with avg to below defense what would you field? Then let's put the 500k price tag for next 3years next to that vs the 3mil+ baseball avg for that SS? And you always believed that Sardinas has upside offensively if he adds 10-20lbs to his frame maybe making him a .725ops SS? Under Milws current state this is perfect to have him play and look like a ML defensive plus SS. If you're going to claim Segura is staying, another team might bite on a flashy start like Segura had us in 2013. It's the unknown but it's about to happen and that's a plus -
I think the deal is a plus. Already he's missed about 6 Games you figure on a 33 avg per season. So from 132 he's at 126. 17 starts more missed over these 3seasons means his option is only 5mil. If you're trading for him, youre trading for a Pitcher to be on the mound. Any 60 day DL stint will pretty much put that guarantee that option at 5mil. I'm sure 8mil over these 2+seasons would gladly be forked over if it meant your team would make the playoffs in just 1 season. We acquired Broxton under that impression taking on his salary of over that amount. And as Reilly put it, his start is just about average still for an NL starter(thanks Lohse/Kershaw) for that likely almost between them two alone! While Garza had that 3.74ERA last season, it's like I put it, he was unlucky having 5 or 6 runs I believe allowed to score maybe even more. I think his ERA had they not been allowed to score(Kintzler most culprit) it would have been 3.35 ish. I know I figured it out one day and posted it here but not going to redo that. He's better than the ERA tells. It's been dropping and it won't take all that much for it to drop to 3.5. Only 2ER in next 11.2IP would set him at 3.5. And he pitches at Pitcher friendly Mets/Braves his next two starts. It's well within reason he could be leaving after the next 2 starts with a 3.4-3.6ERA type era and suddenly he's well worth investing in.

Segura hitting the DL (5/13); Sardinas from AAA to MLB
brewcrewdue80 replied to torts's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
As bad as this may seem. It could be a blessing in disguise. Trade values for either of Segura or Sardinas could be determined by this stint. 1 making Segura Expendable. Or 2 a team over paying to acquire Sardinas after seeing him play. -
Jonathan Lucroy Trade Challenge
brewcrewdue80 replied to Matt Breen's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
To be fair he did say in terms of value...I was assuming he maybe understood that it wasn't very realistic? White Sox won't be getting Lucroy unless Rodon is coming back. I don't think there is any way they trade away Lucroy without getting an elite prospect back. Come on Rodon? Not even Gomez at this point would net Rodon in trade. He's a #3 draft pick that was tied as being #1 prior to two HS arms in Aiken and Kolek instead being chosen. You're talking Franchise SP for an arm. He's already being started by the White Sox. He's part of their solution today not in the future. He's not a prospect. There's gotta be some realization that certain types are Major League AS types who won't be had in a trade. What possibly could be the other team trying to trade for Lucroy offering that the White Sox would have to suggest Rodon is available? White Sox offering Micker Adolfo would be something already other teams are going to struggle to beat. Lucroy is great. But he's not other-worldly great. He's not Trout, not Stanton or McCutchen. He's an achieving 2nd round pick. 18HRs is the most he's hit in a season. His Career OB is .340. Something where .330 is what is asked for or you're not getting on base enough. If it were .365+ he'd be pretty elite in that category. Just gotta look at it in what a team will trade away. They aren't going to trade away Players who are part of the reason for them to make a Playoff push in 2015. Like Rodon, Like Correa, Syndergaard etc. Trades for a player are most likely going to happen giving away prospects that are blocked or year/s away from contributing. What trades in history would have included a Carlos Rodon for a team sending an AS level player in a midseason trade? Do we consider Gilbert Lara an elite prospect even though he's nowhere near a top 100 ranking? Micker Adolfo was just as high/er a rated international signing as Lara. I could easily see with him only being 18 and not even playing full season Minors ball being traded away for Lucroy's years and money owed with maybe an extension in the future. Isn't that the type of upside Milw should be seeking in trade? -
Who? There is no one. Nevin Ashley is smacking around the ball at AAA. Jarod Saltalamacchia is laying around out there. There are options. Just can't be afraid to try something different. You're forgetting where that Minor League affiliate is playing its baseball at? Colorado Springs. The Team's ERA is 5.78 It's a hitters paradise. Maldonado isn't an every day Catcher but he's worth playing due to his fantastic defense/pitch framing. He was the reason Milw won on May 10. How many games is he supposed win offensively for this team?

Garza to Boston is a fit in my opinion. Devers would be a nice get too. I'm not sold on Ball. If I recall, he was ranked higher as a batter than he was a pitcher and he was the one who took the stance he was going to be a pitcher if he signed. I'd rather the Brewers went after Michael Kopech Boston's 1st rd pick last season. I think I liked what I saw in him in video and he's the kind of low A young HS arm to add to the minors. Just like Devers. Again, as to the Garza not netting a top 100 prospect...Puhleeze! He's on a 4 game Quality Start run. This was a man who as a rental brought the Cubs: CJ edwards, Mike Olt, Justin Grimm, and Neil Ramirez. As a Rental! Garza's contract alone is worth something. It's amazing, and should be a ML contract requirement in FA the option clause. He was also signed cheaper than expected. Who would you rather have? Garza or Rick Porcello? Garza is making less than half what the Red Sox are paying Porcello. For essentially the same results. The Red Sox should be so lucky to only have to part with Devers/Ball or Kopech and keeping the top of the highly regarded prospects. And forget money. The Brewers could take Justin Masterson from them to get through this season and solving a Red Sox problem.

Jonathan Lucroy Trade Challenge
brewcrewdue80 replied to Matt Breen's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
How does Boston need Gomez? Theres JBJ and Rusney Castillo besides Betts. Seems really foolish on their part. I don't get them trading Swihart for Lucroy either. Sideways move and losing team control while doing so. Castillo is making 11mil+. Gomez clogs him further down in being called up. How about the team the Brewers are facing tonight? White Sox? Tyler Flowers/Geo Soto have done the kind of catcher's work that would be team's need to upgrade. Soto gets canned, Lucroy steps in to save that club's Playoff hopes! Now, Carlos Rodon is a fixture for that team's run not going to be had in trade. Tim Anderson #17th pick in 2013 is a top 80 prospect but at the SS position. There's a flamethrower in Francelis Montas also a top 100 prospect but control issues making him seem a little suspect. But, hidden away in the White Sox minors is International prospect Micker Adolfo. 18year old who was ranked either #1 or #2 for international signees in 2013. Reads has having a Strong Power upside suitable for Right Field. Hit 5HRs in 47games in rookie ball at 17. Would that be the kind of get with Montas for Lucroy? Maybe you ask for Conor Gillapsie as a Lefty 3b bat as well? Someone to bridge ARam's retirement for a period. White Sox have Samardzija for the season, they can either buy to accommodate his last year and Lucroy would be a nice help, or take all that money they spent this offseason and sell him off to show for it. -
2015 Brewers' 1st-Rd. Pick Speculation
brewcrewdue80 replied to brewcrewdue80's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
Man, They show video of Aiken and I just couldn't pass him up if his medicals showed promise. I know I've shied away from him due to the smaller UCL/TJ. And only a team with seeing his medicals that maybe the surgery also included fixing his smaller UCL would it make so much sense to take him. We'll probably never have the info on what his medicals come out until he's picked and that team's interview says something positive on the medicals. Obviously, if he drops and it's end of 1st rd or even mid 2nd round, the medicals on him must have come back as negatively. Maybe I should try and watch a little video of the mocked names and like last season give my impressions on what and whom I like/don't like. -
I know the Brewers are playing better baseball and the team appears to be capable to go on a winning record to maybe pull in to that final wildcard slot. Thus making it seem the team should not be open for business. But. Milwaukee is like many other teams struggling who still are ahead of them in the standings. Washington has yet to experience Anthony Tendon play 1game. Miami lost Yelich in their poor start who's returned, besides having a closer blow 3games who's now removed. Pittsburgh had their poor start last season, it's been a poor start for Andrew McCutchen who's turning it around. Those are just the 3 wildcard potential teams the Brewers have to overcome. Then there's the Pitching staff. One, they're underachieving giving up HRs at an alarming rate. Two they are doing this with majority of games played at Home. Three, it's been over 6months now of ML pitching that the Brewers staff have defied the odds against injury. That's incredible in this TJ day and age. Too climb back to 86wins maybe in to a wildcard spot? The Pitchers not only have to remain healthy, they have to overachieve in performance. Then this team has to also go on the road and play well above .500. Its be different if this start was reversed Away games played to Home games. There isn't some young influx of batting talent to be added in depth. Same with pitching. I just don't believe the team will avoid a major injury the rest of the season. So even with the better play and getting out of worst record in baseball, the team should still be Open for business. Everyone is available except Lucroy and Nelson. And I say Lucroy because in his thread I don't believe any team who needs him can give back Milw a correct return. Just for w/l records This is an example of what Milw would have to do to get to just 86 wins: Go 34-25 at Home Go 40-29 on the road. Let's give them slightly better at home 2wins vs the road to be a little more realistic 36-23 38-31 That is what it's going to take if 86wins nets a playoff spot. Now they are about to embark on a 10game road trip. 5-5 or 6-4 is a must or it's even bleaker. @NYM @DET @Atl.... way to travel east, northwest, then south. Couldn't it have gone east, east, south? Looking at the schedule it does have Milw play @Stl @Pitts and home vs Wash by June 14th. 10games vs the Playoff contenders that should either put a nail in the coffin on the season at that point or give the Brewers the inclination they can get in the playoffs. 30games to play to that point. 18-12 or better you're in it. 16-14 or worse you're selling.

Jonathan Lucroy Trade Challenge
brewcrewdue80 replied to Matt Breen's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
There is 0% chance Carlos Correa is included in a trade. Of all trade rumors, Correa's may be the only one that tops untradeable over Julias Urias. Houston just promoted Correa to AAA. The talk was he could be promoted to the ML team when Lowrie went down. But Houston is going to play the Super 2 card on Correa and hold him down until he wont qualify for that. That is the only reason Correa is in AAA. Same could be said about Lindor in Cleveland. Both will be called up if healthy after the Super 2 date passes. I'm still in belief Lucroy being traded is a huge challenge for Milw to find anything of correct value for him. The teams that would use him, don't have it and the teams that have value, don't need him. Seattle is pretty much it and it would have to start with Walker. They're not exactly a Playoff team that can lose a SP in trade to gain a Catcher. So you send them Lohse too? Just looking at Seattle's pitching depth chart. Elias is already up for Iwakuma. Only other significant SP to this point with an ERA under 4 would be Mike Montgomery who doesnt look to be end of the season ready. Probably a 165innings limit which he'd cleary exceed if he's a SP at the ML level. Also in trade ideas, I just can't fathom Walker/Hultzen both being included in a single trade with 1 team. Would you trade Peralta/Nelson prior to the start of last season to acquire Lucroy? As to Walker. Fangraphs rates an Pitcher's pitches as runs above avg or below. Walker has enjoyed positive runs in all 4 of pitches just never at the same time. Fastball, Cutter, Curveball, Change. It's the kind of maturity and learning to pitch that makes one wonder if he went and put 3 of the 4 together one season what that season would be like. -
Sorry Ennder I was suggesting Vegas O/U odds. Probably a 75.5 to 79.5 when Lohse signed. I just remember the Brewers pretty much being O/U the last 3 years under 80 wins.
-
And the Green Bay Packers play on a level playing field amongst all the NFL. The Brewers do not. Can't be compared on the draft losses of Green Bay's 1st round when they can monetarily cover that loss. And I find it funny that the Packers built their team "Through the draft" consistently having around the youngest team's in all of the NFL. Milw on the other hand being in the middle of Baseball salaries cannot afford to sign FAs like Green Bay or extend an Aaron Rodgers if wanted to record amounts. Due to that, they should be building their successful teams through the draft. As doing so is a cheaper option than signing Aged vets to 11mil per year. What bothers me the most is that Lohse netted the Cardinals that comp pick. It was late March when they signed Lohse, all the club had to do was wait til the June draft to sign him keeping their pick while the Cardinals lost theirs. When Lohse was brought in Milw became a team thought to be around 75wins to maybe 80wins. It's as you said, he was brought in as a quality innings eater. Not a Franchise leading player that the 17th pick could have been. That 17th pick was Tim Anderson a top 100 prospect today. 18 was Chris Anderson not top 100 yet but this blurp:Both Anderson's slider and changeup have the potential to be solid pitches. His slider climbs into the mid 80s, and his changeup comes with deceptive arm speed and fade. He could be a frontline starter if he refines his control, and a closer if he doesn't. 19 was Marco Gonzales StL's top 100 prospect with ML experience already. Those 3 alone sound like better to build around than Lohse was to fill out the ML roster at over 10% the team's payroll. Corey Seager/Michael Wacha were 18/19 in 2012. Lucas Giolito 16 If say some team signed lohse drafting ahead of Milw Sonny Gray was 18 in 2011. CJ Cron 17 Those are some strong arms teams built around(one being StL) If only the Lohse signing was for him to be a quality innings eater SP, then that makes the decision even worse. He was brought in clearly for Milw to contend for not only the Playoffs but the Division title. It's the only way to justify making that signing, and it's failed to accomplish that.
