  1. Marco on pace for 8ip. Seriously he's a great pitcher just fly baller in a hitters ballpark. Imagine if he pitched for Philly in that NL East? 2.8ERA 1.05Whip.
  2. This concern about Thornburg not being stretched out to Spot Start/take over a Rotation spot in case of injury? Remember Hand/Figaro/Gorzo getting starts last year? Figaro on 2days rest went 84pitches, had 4 days rest, replaced Fiers in a game for 28pitches, then Started every 5th day for 4 more Starts at:93,88,94, and 75(was shelled) Donovan Hand had 7starts His days off and then Starting Pitch counts went: 5days rest 52pitches. Had a Relief appearance 3days later then 2more days rest 64pitch start. 5days rest 86pitch start. 3 Relief Apps between the next 16days then with 2days rest a 58pitch Start. 4days rest a 79pitch start. 5days rest a 92pitch start. 4days rest a 107pitch start which he was then put back in the Pen. Gorzo had a Spot start on 3days rest in June 58pitches. Then in July he was called upon to start again first on 2days rest at 83pitches. 4days rest at 84pitches. 9days rest(ASbreak) at 90pitches. 4days rest at 83pitches. A Relief AP on 5days rest. Then starting again 7days rest to 95pitches, 5days rest 87pitches, 4days rest 79pitches, 6days rest 99pitches. What does all that show me? To me it seems that Thornburg would be allowed his first start to go around 55-65pitches. By his second he's already stretched out to go 80+ and the 3rd he'd probably go 90-100 if needed. I don't get the concern about needing him to stay stretched out in AAA if he's only going to miss 30 pitches his first turn back from normal and around a dozen pitches his 2nd time back. So 45pitches would be all we're missing out from him in 2 starts. Meanwhile, he's a major factor out of the bullpen(likely instilling confidence) and keeping his Innings pitched down. It all adds up to a positive having Thornburg on the team's roster. And it's another reason why I'm optimistic about this team, because the Bullpen options are better with Smith/Thornburg than with who we had last year in their place. That's huge imo in the big picture. Edit add: I'm also not so sure that Thornburg has a SP role if/when the 1st Brewers Rotation spot opens. As a Spot Starter maybe but for DL purposes, I'm going to think Nelson is the call-up who being in the AAA will be stretched out. The bullpen gets zero shakeup that way.
  3. I can understand the logic of putting him in when the team is behind 4 runs or more in a game at this point. Just to get his feet wet see how he does and go on from his performance when to use him again. There's a good chance this was told to Wang from the beginning, and with the Boston series who could predict we'd win all 3 games and not be blown out in at least one of them? My guess is if the team is down 4runs or more by the 5th inning, he's going to be the guy to come in and mop up til his spot comes up in the batting order.(Who knows, maybe the guy even takes an AB since he's a projected SP in the future) It's going to be fun to see how he gets used at this point and for how many outs. It'll also be a helluva sign if its like I said he's the guy in the 5th/6th inning who comes in when 4+ behind and he's pitching 2 maybe even 3ip and doing so, well that if that truly becomes his role, the offensive side of the team seeing him do well could feel confident to rally back and win one for their Wang.
  4. Ok thanks for the clear-up. It's sad they can't send him down to AAA to get every day ABs. He's being paid regardless. I mean if I'm him, what's better when playing for a contract next year? 10PAs a week? Or getting 24PAs in front of scouts to garner attention from other teams or maybe even force the Brewers hand if he began hitting .300+ with Power down there. But maybe he's washed up completely and has retirement on his mind already so it doesn't matter one bit to him.
  5. No way. Speculation based on the writer's assumption the Brewers need to make a move for 1b. And I'm sure there's a Brewers Scout there watching him but weren't we also watching Freddy Garcia when he began pitching again, who just so happens to be the one pitching to Morales/Drew in this showcase? And they should have a scout there if Reynolds tanks and Morales is available come June 7th so to sign him. But to sign Morales any time before June 7th would madden me beyond belief. It makes zero sense to pick up a poor defensive 1b who can slash .280/.333/.480/.813 with an equal amount of 27HRs as Reynolds costing the draft pick because you can't wait and stomach the .233/.329/.465/.794 line he gives you for 2more months batting 7th in your lineup. Let's go ahead and project that out for you in terms of numbers .233 vs .280 in 200PAs( the time til June 7th) Morales: 56Hits 10BBs again the power is equal so that is all that matter hits and BBs Reynolds:46hits 19BBs That's it, we would be sacrificing the 12th pick in the draft to gain 10hits while giving up 9BBs. Explain to me how any single human being could justify doing that? This isn't like Morales gets signed and is inserted atop the order or batting cleanup, he would bat 6th or 7th as Reynolds does now. Now, signing Morales over Overbay playing every day at 1b, there's some potential Wins gained there. But Morales over Reynolds? Now vs. June, It would more than likely mean less than 1 win difference. And that can be in either's favor not just in Morales' favor. To pass up potentially drafting a Luis Ortiz/Nick Gordon or any number other of highly regarded draft prospects for 10hits? I'll quit being a fan of Brewers baseball at the stupidity of the organization if it happens. Edit: I'm realizing right now my numbers are slightly flawed for hits. Morales would have 53hits and Reynolds 42hits but it's only 1hit difference so the rant stays about the same.
  6. You can't demote him. If the Brewers try he can tell them to pound sand, take his money(for the whole year), and play elsewhere. If he tells the team to pound sand and take his money for the whole year. Isn't the team who picks him up on the hook for whatever Weeks is owed remaining? And that to me is where I was thinking he can go play in AAA because no team is going to pick him up for the 10.5mil or so remaining this year and get stuck with that tab. Now, If I'm correct, then Weeks finding a way to get on a playing field so to build on to next year for a potential contract is necessary for him. He chooses the pound sand route and sits all year he won't get anything but a minor league deal next year and the failure to make that team means retirement for him....Or the Japan Route which I posted he'll be there while Yuni is on a ML team next season. So once removed from the team, if Weeks wants another Baseball contract beyond 2014 he has to play in AAA for Milwaukee.
  7. In drafting the OF something we are full of, It honestly wouldn't be a problem, if Melvin/Mark A. were the types to trade away a Gomez/ or Braun. But so far history shows they wont. They would instead trade away the Minor players to acquire a ML player who likely has 2-3 years of team control and is already in Arb. So, rather than having the under 25 talent we acquire the 28yr old ML player who leaves via FA at age 30/31 and if we extend him he's going on his decline years. I'd just much prefer the under 25 talent who when extended it's for his 27-31years after playing 4 seasons with Milw to begin with All of which would likely be less than that single year of Arb in the trade for ML player.
  8. Well, he's playing this year, add another 30HRs maybe 35 HRs leaving him less than 30 from 500. I imagine he becomes a PH, off the bench bat like Giambi did long enough to reach 500. But if he winds up playing for a team, then no doubt he reaches 500. As this topic is talking about HRs where are the 40HR type batters, Dunn is capable still of accomplishing? If I'm wrong I'm wrong but HR Power and 4-5years on his side to still find ways to play the game will get him to 500.
  9. Okay so looking at the list I'm randomly going to project 500 Club year Joined: Pujols-2014 Dunn-2017 Ortiz-2017 Miggy-2018 Beltre 2019 Fielder-2022 Stanton-2023 Braun-doesn't get there Reynolds doesn't get there Bruce-2027 Upton-no chance Trout-2030 I'll throw in couple other names. Evan Longoria He's a 33 HR 162 game avg player is 28 keeps the avg going for 10 more seasons he's about at 500 Chris Davis. Yeah he's far behind when you consider average in 10years needing to be 37HRs per season. But let's credit him with two 50HR years. And he's right in line with Longoria of 33HRs per season then the other 8years. Both are guys who to me will likely see DH longevity for their careers. Remember this is the lousy 1b age so in 5-6years you're not looking at Prince Fielders filling up DHs, it's be these two, like Braun/Zimmerman taking over DH roles for teams. That prediction holds up we're looking at 9 players in 11seasons joining the 500 club. Isn't that quite a hefty number? I think another thing that's' hurting the potential for 500 club is the age these players are joining the Majors. Rather than run guys out there in their teens/ age 20 season, many of these power hitters are getting started age 23 and some not coming in to their own til they are 26. as is the case for Davis. Or, it's how finicky clubs are at protecting their players, throwing them on the DL whenever possible to keep their investment healthy. Rather than ask them to play through it.
  10. That Mock: Michael Conforto? Another OF for this team? Can we trade down? (I know we cant but just thinking, if our luck would be that bad to see 9 pitchers we all like go in top 10?) On another note, anyone care to chime in on the HS Arm mocked in the competitive balance round? Mac Marshall? Edit Add: Mocks since 3-10 to 4-4: http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2014/03/the-mock-2014-volume-i/ http://www.sportscity.com/mlb/draft/2014draft/mock-draft/ http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2014/03/25/blfs-2014-mock-draft-v-1/ http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-mock-draft-6-0-top-41-picks/42145 http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2014/03/the-mock-2014-volume-ii/ http://www.indiansbaseballinsider.com/blog/2014-mlb-draft-mock-draft-3-0-64179 It seems we are labeled as a College Selection team based on these mocks. Luis Ortiz is available in every one of them, yet we look at college players instead. The thing to see in this is how Aiken/Kolek how becoming the 1/2 and Rodon is sliding to 2/3. I'm pretty glad I chimed in how much I liked Aiken a couple months ago before his now rise to the top. Maybe there's something to my eye
  11. Has Weeks hit a ball hard yet this season? You read the play the play and its infield single, ground outs/Strikeouts. couple fly outs. I think he's in line for a demotion to AAA.(He'll clear waivers no doubt to have done so) And then play every day to either show something that he's hitting the ball hard or just to come to terms his career is over and completely waive him. It feels like such a waste to keep him on the roster to sit on the bench, bring him in to bat and for him to just ground out or strikeout. He can't hit the ball in the gaps or over the fence when he can't square up on anything thrown his way.
  12. Under Reynolds' current sample size, what problem at 1b? 5-17 1 2b 1HR 3rbi..heck even a SB .898OPS.... I honestly think Reynolds is in the best situation right now for him to succeed. He's batting what? 7th? He's not in the 4th/5th/6th spots in the order where the pressure is on him to produce. I can imagine right now, if you took the OPS of the 30 ML teams #7 in the order and posted it and then showed what Reynolds what he's averaged for his career, it's far better. So go out there and play. Do we forget that we have a studly 1 through 5 for a lineup? a #6 in Davis who's promising? And then here's Reynolds batting 7th. Yeah, he may be below your typical expected 1b numbers, but how does he fit your typical #7 in the order numbers? I bet he's better. and I'll take it for this season. And he just may thrive on where he sits in the order.
  13. Shouldn't this Subject be locked, since Juan is now with Toronto?
  14. Why pinch hit Weeks for Gennett there? who's 2 for 2? And you're up 3runs? Do the Phillies not have another LHP in their bullpen? I'm just confused because it wastes a Pinch hitter for the Pitcher coming up. And how about later in the game if the score becomes tied and goes extras?
  15. Yep that's what I'm following, Its nice to read some tweets from Hardicourt or McCalvy. But in doing so, when have those two ever tweeted something like that? And I'm positive I've seen a few other teams twitterfeed with just as classless tweets before. Do they know they are on ESPN Gamecast's Game feed?
  16. I can't wait to see Wang go 2ip today and end all this nonsense about the bullpen rostered. What are we fearful of? A Control with Power pitcher unable to record outs? And Henderson? Really? He's appeared twice. Let the complaining be. The only complaint I have with the bullpen is Duke being on the roster and I'm thinking when Gorzo returns that'll be fixed so what's to complain about then. Gennett with an intentional Walk....hmm, I thought with his batting profile pitchers would just constantly challenge him and let him meekly drive balls for outs? Every day this 2b situation looks better and better.
  17. Xander Bogaerts isn't a nobody on the left side of the infield....Now Middlebrooks, I agree questionable player. I'm also not a fan of their pitching staff. Lester/Bucholtz to me aren't top of the rotation guys but somehow managed to be great last year. But still, I wasn't expecting a series sweep by Milwaukee. I figured there would be one game at least where Boston's offense blew our pitching away to 10 runs or more. I was working when the game was on, how did Reynolds handle 3b?
  18. How fantastic would this Franchise look if they drafted Fernandez/Gray. Cy Young/ and a #2 in 2011? It's just beyond frustrating to look at that draft the #1/#2 pitchers selected all around the Brewers picks and we found 2 nobody's maybe #4s. Personally, Everyone at the top involved in that draft would be fired after Fernandez's year and Gray starting in the Playoffs for Oak. There is no reason anybody should be left because youre grade is F and F means Fired in my books. Just want to add: MLB's Scouting rankings of this year's draft class, the top 18 have an overall ranking of 60 which would be higher than any Grade of our current prospect class. How sad is that?
  19. Is Dozier gone? Owings is a potential gem in the rough.
  20. My rank in order of those guys would be(by potential) Owings, Aybar, Gordon, Escobar, Rollins, Jeter. Aybar is the safest pick as he will play the most. Owings has to deal with getting Gregarious playing time.
  21. Tyler Kolek first Pitcher taken off the board....it's going to happen.
  22. How is it possible for a team to drive over and over like Kentucky and not get one Offensive Charge? Kentucky had 0 turnovers in the 2nd half. 0 in a half Great Game by Badgers, they had a number of hesitant possessions in the 2nd half that came up empty. A number of passes weren't made to players w/o the ball driving to the basket. Brust stole that ball, instead 2FTs by Randle to tie game at 69. Miss that FT, Kentucky is guarded on the 3, and more than likely Kentucky may have gone the quick 2, foul route and then had the 5secs WI had to make that 3 instead....as Calipari said in the end, if Martin makes that FT its a different game. All in all, though, man Kentucky has some Men on that Court and our Boys stood up to them and did more than enough to win. Wisconsin should finish in the top 3 in rankings in the AP when its all said and done.
  23. Gennett 2 big Doubles. Would Weeks be capable of that in a single game? Both in Clutch situations?
  24. Fun game to watch thus far. I think Randle after his finish and the TO called yelled at the crowd, We're winning this game....Clearly the boy didn't care to win the regular season games. I cant fathom 5% of College basketball teams being able to contain this kid from 30pts every game with asserting himself. Yet here I look and he avg. 15/10 on his season. I got to watch 10-12 min. of Kentucky's teamcast...wow, I never seen such a homer commentor than their color commentator? WI would score and it was almost not acknowledged. Then "Young" would do something and it was just the worst praise over praise over praise on this Young kid.....Oh WI scored and Young got the ball back in between the 3rd or 4th rePraising of Young.... If I were just listening to the game I wouldn't have known WI got the ball or scored.... Thankfully I'm now listening to Nantz/Kerr/Anthony now. I hate Kentucky even more after listening to that broadcast.
