  1. What players have a +70-ish point split on their AVG at home at Coors v. playing on the road? Carlos Gonzalez for 1. Tulowitzki sits at 52pts. That park really adds a ton to BA.
  2. The guy whose spot he took is likely Wooten. Remind me how he pitched last night. Right now you could argue he's taking Fiers' spot. As for Wooten, Wooten's toiled for years to get to the major leagues. He's a fringe pitcher but he knows how to pitch and is mature enough to handle a rough outing. If the Brewers consider themselves serious contenders, they can't afford to carry a pitcher they are afraid to use. I understand all the arguments about "developing a talent" etc. But is this season all about developing one guy who may or may not have a major league future, or is it about winning? Ten or so years ago it made some sense for them to try and develop a Matt Ford. The major league team wasn't going anywhere. This year's team has higher aspirations. It's simple how to get through the season with Wang. When we have an emergency start or a doubleheader this year, give him the Start, hand him a bat, bunt the ball, hustle down the line and grab his Hammy as he reaches 1b. DL Stint and 25th man problem solved! But really, as I stated earlier, he's the 25th man RP who can be managed his time/innings throughout the season. There's going to be games where we face Kershaw/Wainwright/the Aces of the NL who do what they're supposed to do and shutout the Brewers Bats. And in those games 3 or more runs behind come 7th inning Wang can get an Inning or 3 depending how he does, where he falls in the batting order. He's the last man off the bench among RPs it's not going to come down in the end to relying on him being successful to win the division or WS for that matter. That's up to our Starters going 6innings or more and if they aren't then the team is likely behind in the game. If the Starters go 6IP, there are more than enough RPs to get in the final 9outs to not need to use Wang. This isn't going to be a problem for the Brewers chances in 2014. Just remember where Wang slots in the Brewers prospect lines for pitching: Nelson, Williams, Hellweg, Jungmann and then its Wang. I personally think of the growth he may get by being along side the Vets, Lohse,Gallardo,Garza who could be a mentor to Wang if they take interest in his pitching sessions. This will work out there's no need to nix it because the 25th man on bench can't cut it to better than MLB average level.
  3. Braun 2HRs Batting slash line at .292/.319/.600 Just needs a few more walks in there and he's right where you hope he'll be. Exhales on the thumb concerns! How tough it our 3,4,5 in the lineup? Lucroy 3 2bs yesterday! .344/.412/.541 from our Catcher! He's not just going to get named an All Star this season, Lucroy is going to get some MVP attention especially if he holds on to that batting line! I can't stop being optimistic on this team with our top 5 for a batting lineup. I believe Davis will grow better as the season goes(a 2HR game like Braun's would be excellent to boost his confidence) I know what I'm getting with Reynolds and I'm fine with that for a 7th in the order guy. And Gennett gets closer to taking over the everyday 2b role while being productive. 13-5 .500 ball the rest of the season gets us to 85-77 and we all know how we tend to win games down the stretch playing above .500 ball. This team has 90 102wins in it!(have to add Post Season total if to win the WS)
  4. Pretty cool, but, this being my first sight of Maldonado hit this season, Reynolds on 2b, why is he in such a pull swing mode? 1out runner on 2b shouldn't his approach to hit more up the middle to opposite field? Where at least his out moves the runner to 3b?
  5. Thank God this fiasco is over! And even better our staff gets to beat down Ike Davis' numbers further while playing for the Pirates! I'm glad the Brewers didn't send Thornburg for Davis....Can you imagine the bullpen w/o Thornburg today? Davis just doesn't appear good. It's 1 season he's living off of right now that inspires hope and a lot of fans clamoring to give him a shot. The problem is, he's worse today at making contact then he was when he first came in to the league. This at an age where he should be better and still improving. He can't make the proper adjustments and he's going to continue to struggle. As to the trade cost/return? It was noted the Mets wanted Thornburg. We can all agree at this point Thornburg is a far better prospect than this guy Pittsburgh sent over. Could we have put together a better package than what Pittsburgh did? Hard to do if the other side wants Thornburg included in it. Yeah we could have put together a better prospect. Thornburg. Again we still now have Thornburg on our team and not Ike Davis. I couldn't be happier.
  6. Cuddyer in Coors park add like 70pts to his BA. And Colorado won't trade him if they are in the playoff hunt. You never know with that offensive punch they have of Cargonzo/Tulo/Rosario/Cuddyer. Arenado is coming along. Their pitching still is terrible but not as terrible as last year. Home/Road AVG 2012: .268/.250 2013: .356/.311 I stand corrected. Guess he doesn't know how to take advantage of the hitting confines in Coors. Guess what I really was guessing at was that his BA at another ballpark called home i.e. Miller Park he'd see his Avg drop there around 70pts...but it appears more like 30pts instead. The guy I wanted Milw to sign was Justin Morneau who so happens to play for Colorado too(forgot about that) and is off to a .346/.386/.538 start with 4-2bs 2HRs in 18hits. And 3 bbs to 7Ks in 57PAs. (somehow we couldn't put a 2/12.5+ offer on the table?
  7. He just got the NL MVP to foul out. Isn't this the point of using Wang, to get the outs to complete an out of control game and save the better RPs' arms? It was 5-2 when he came in. The Brewers, coming into the game, had the best record in baseball. Were we conceding the game to Pittsburgh down by 3? No, but then he gave a HR and its 6-2. Then you add a few more runs, and at that point you do concede the game and let him finish out the inning. It'd be different if he allowed a hit and walked the next two batters and you think to yourself, if you need to stay in the game you need 3 straight outs w/o allowing a run. But his 2pitch was hit out for a HR. And it's 6-2. Now he had Mercer/Tabata/Martin/and Alvarez at pitcher's counts when he gave up the knocks. When Wang is brought in you're not conceding the game, you're giving him a chance at action 3runs down. The worst happened he gave up 6ERs. so be it. I want Wang to get his opportunities. I don't consider it throwing the white flag down 3runs.
  8. He just got the NL MVP to foul out. Isn't this the point of using Wang, to get the outs to complete an out of control game and save the better RPs' arms?
  9. The game was tied in both Caught stealing. It's easy to see 6-2 score now and say it didn't matter. But if we score a run and it's 3-2 Milwaukee is Wooten out there for the 7th inning?
  10. And pretty much this too. The hit and run with your catcher trying to steal and a hitter with problems making contact. Fire him now. It's inexcusable and it keeps happening. Yep. Lucroy twice caught stealing in the last what? 3games? It's one thing if the catcher is poor at throwing out runners but Molina/Martin? Why are we running on these two? It's also another thing if it's Gomez or Segura getting thrown out because they are fast, by quite a bit over Lucroy/Gennett. I like small ball when its used wisely. But it's not being used wisely. Why run Gennett with Gomez at the plate and 1out? Just stupid. Why run Lucroy with Davis at the plate? Who's been whiffing at pitches way out of the zone?
  11. Just voted Jean! Gennett just another ho-hum single. Gritty/Grinding tough out is how I see Gennett's future. Just a pest, you think you'll dominate, but then boom 2-3 against you and you're wondering why he keeps sneaking those base hits on you?
  13. They've done it multiple times in the past (I guess that happens when you often sign older players to multi-year deals). I don't think Melvin/Attanasio will hesitate to cut Weeks when and if a better option emerges. It could be argued that some of the AAA utility infielders are better options, but it's not cut and dried. Part of it is probably the fact that, unlike the Hall / Suppan / Wolf situations, Weeks can be hidden as the small side of a platoon where he really doesn't hurt the team that much, and his failings can be brushed off as "it's tough to hit when you don't get much playing time." I have little doubt that the Brewers would dump Weeks immediately if either they got some team to trade him for anything, even salary relief, or they had someone in AAA who was a no-doubt improvement. But could you imagine the vitriol if Weeks gets dumped and some no-name comes up from AAA and stinks? Until (and if) one of those things happen, Weeks will probably continue on in the small role he's given. They held on, then waived Wolf August 22nd/Suppan June 7th/ and traded Hall August 19th. So you're talking the 5th payday or after out of 13/14? on the season. So close to 40% of the salary owed for Suppan and 70% for Hall/Wolf. With knowing that history, It's safe to guess Rickie remains on the team for around half the season before a move is made. And at that point he has 5-5.75mil on the books left to be paid to sit at home. Rickie's Paychecks should come out to around 821-885K each And he's either almost at his 2nd paycheck if 13 payperiods or already has it if 14. Leaving Rickie with about 9.7mil left to be paid. Now Suppan's June 7th waive pretty much coincides with about when your Prospect is no longer tied to Super 2 status. To maintain team control for another year it's in a 2week timeframe from now. So It's logical that in 2weeks time to the June 7th-ish Weeks would be waived for a Prospect Callup. But really, aside from Nelson, who's already accrued service time, I don't know what prospect you worry on saving a year of team control. So that goes back to Weeks likely staying now until the Trade Deadline before being waived like Wolf was. But really, how long does a team go with a sub .400OPS guy? Who to me stays under .600OPS all season long in this role he's in(unless some random 2-4HR stretch very soon propels his OPS to a number that carries him above .600 for awhile) He doesn't have a walk yet, he's the ball hard it seems just once. Let's be honest, Rickie's bat speed in his heyday allowed him to pounce on 93-95MPH FBs that were mistakes for hits. And he'd be able to feast on the FBs thrown 88-91. Now, he can't touch a 93-95MPH FB, and maybe puts the bat on the ball on the 88-90MPH mistakes. If this were 2010, I think there's enough of those FBs in the 88-90MPH range to keep his head above water. But Baseball's Starting Pitchers are increasingly seeing Power Pitching 93-96MPH FBs being added in their Rotations. Put it this way via BRef's Splits: Power pitchers vs Weeks 2013: 91PAs 12/30 BB/K 9hits 6-2bs a .114/.231/.190 slash 22.8%PAs Power/Finesse 2013: 137PAs 19/36 BB/K 24hits 4-2bs 5HRs a .200/.299/.358 slash 34.3%PAs Finesse 2013: 171PAs 14/37 BB/K 40hits 10-2bs 1-3bs 5HRs a .265/.351/.444 slash 42.9%PAs Power Pitchers vs. Weeks 2012: 126PA 21/33BB/K 21hits 5-2bs 2HR .204/.349/.311 slash 18.6%PAs Power/Finesse 2012: 298PA 33/81bb/k 60hits 16-2bs 2-3bs 7Hrs .235/.339/.396 slash 44%PAs Finesse 2012: 253PA 20/55bb/k 54hits 8-2bs 2-3bs 12HRs .235/.304/.443 slash 37.4%PAs Power Pitchers vs Weeks 2011: 100PA 9/29bb/k 15hits 4-2bs 5HRs .176/.280/.400 slash 19.4%PAs Power/Finesse 2011: 199PA 26/45bb/k 52hits 12-2bs 1-3b 8HRs .306/.407/.529 slash 38.6%PAs Finesse 2011: 216PA 15/33bb/k 55hits 10-2bs 1-3b 7HRs .278/.330/.444 42%PAs Power Pitchers vs Weeks 2010: 132PA 18/32bb/k 35hits 4-2bs 2-3bs 4HRs .318/.432/.500 slash! 17.5%PAs Power/Finesse 2010: 289PA 35/72bb/k 63hits 12-2bs 9HRs .259/.374/.420 slash 38.3%PAs Finesse 2010: 333PA 23/80bb/k 77hits 16-2bs 2-3bs 16HRs .258/.333/.487 slash 44.2%PAs Weeks' value remaining sits with Finesse pitching. Power pitching his slg/OPS has dropped as you can see. And I put down the pct of PAs he had that season for each type to show how increasingly Power type pitchers are being seen. This is why I can't get on board with the Weeks fanbase on he can turn around closer to his career norms and that alone is better than Gennett. Weeks is weaker vs. Power pitching and he's facing more of those today than in 2010/11. His Bat speed just isn't fast enough anymore. And look at that-2HRs in last 217PAs vs Power pitchers. 13XBH/30hit total in that 217PAs. He barely makes solid contact vs them. He's done, I'm sorry. Only a Finesse Pitcher should Rickie take ABs against.
  14. 2 week notice. What's the speculation on the 1st choice? :?
  15. I think LiveforOctober that you are thinking like I would. WTP's Lineup is the one I Want...Vs. Lefties. but I guess toss Weeks in at 8. And then vs. Righties I bat Segura 2nd for now, bat Segura 6th,Davis 7th and Reynolds 8th. Segura's struggles what it is, deserves that kind of demotion in the lineup vs. Righties. Gennett breaks up the RH bats atop the order vs. putting Schafer/Overbay/Gennett at the bottom vs. a Righty. I think for now 1:Gomez 3:Braun 4:ARam 5:Lucroy is permanent when they start. the rest? are interchangeable.
  16. What's wrong with Gomez leading off? Doesn't he have 3 Leadoff HRs this year? That was the point in batting him Leadoff, is his approach at the plate is super aggressive and high energy. A Starter just getting under way and may not fully be loose/warmed up (as is known) likely will make mistakes in the 1st inning pitched before settling in to a groove. Well? If you bat Gomez 6th where he appears best, he doesn't get that 1st inning AB vs. a potential mistake thrown pitch. As to the state of the Central. St. Louis has immense Pitching talent locked down for years. Wainwright to me is top 3 in all of National League. Wacha and Miller are #2s with Ace abilities. Then Martinez/Rosenthal are fantastic. Hitting there's new blood that is better at 2b Wong/SS Peralta Adams is special I think. No Taveras just yet but he's supposed to be special. Just a team when you go 1-25 on their roster, that all important Starting 14+2RPS show no true weakness. In a 162game season playing .650-.700ball seems easy with that. Cincy: Overachievers. I'm not a fan of their pitching. I think they are #3s who people see as #2s. I don't think Cingrani is any better than any of the Brewers starting 5. Latos/Chapman on the DL puts them games back in the W/L they couldn't afford. Phillips hit out of control last year and it was a fluke costing the Reds many Reds that you could project. No Choo insert Hamilton mass decline atop the order. Just not enough runs when your best hitter Votto walks so much and doesn't have the supporting cast to give his pitching staff enough runs. Pitts. Dangerous team but no Taillon now and who knows in the future? Really just cost that team 4-5wins imo. Great Future for this franchise but it's not built right this year with Taillon on the shelf. Best OF in the game maybe when Polanco joins McCutchen/Marte. Future is bright just not yet(last season was a premature Tease) Cubs: Terrible Pitching. Travis Wood/Jeff Samardzija atop their rotation and to me those two are #4s on avg. Poor Pitching gets you Minnesota Twins of '13 kind of record. 65-67wins. Bright Offensively Prospects to come but not until Pitchers are added to this team can they be considered anything but the worst in the Central. Being in a Big Market, who knows? when they open the wallet and buy themselves a staff? And the Brewers. Much better on paper this season. But on a 1-25 scale they have the 12 of the Starting 14+2RPs but beyond that they take a big drop off in depth. The Future is this year and maybe next. 2 year window to accomplish the impossible....a WS win. What does this team buy at the Trade Deadline to either get over the hump or fall flat on their faces come 2016?
  17. Braun went 1-4 tonight, confirming he is a career .250 hitter. Science. He sucks, Wes Helms has a higher career average Not even remotely in the same thought process here. No sense in your response.
  18. I'd understand that if Gennett didn't have one of the 3hits today. Somebody at least put the bat on the ball. I think that batting line you're throwing out there of .182/.200/.182 is more than likely a better batting line than what Bianchi or Weeks can put together vs a Lefty coming off the bench. And they went 0 for 2 confirming that.
  19. What I was going to say, is what is RRR thinking burning both middle INFs when all it takes is a beanball at Segura to have nobody on the bench to replace him at SS? Or, who plays 2b when it occurs? There's no need to bat Bianchi there, let Gennett hit Rickie PH for the Pitcher and you're covered in case the worst happens(plus have the Bench Bat to use in case the game goes extras)
  20. Come On Roenicke! Pull Gennett for Bianchi/Weeks to both Pinch hit? He sure loves to burn up his Middle INFs with no regard for later in the game nor who's deserves to be up at the plate. Obviously there's a predetermined strategy by him, doesn't care what the score is or the outcome of the game. A,B,C. Done. Now we just need Segura to get beaned...as I'm writing this Gomez is beaned...yep. You're so brilliant RRR.
  21. I root for whichever team is worst in the standings. So in this case Cincy today.
  22. %$@$#!*!)%*$(!@!)( ADSFDFWEQEWDSSVSDARQEER~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 6outs left 6 total hits in 16innings vs. The Scrub Starting Pitchers on StL. How many times are we going to be no-hit by Wacha/Wainwright this season, if we can't touch up these guys?
  23. Miller just grooved 7 of 9pitches directly down the middle of the plate to Segura and Braun...Cardinals pitchers are soo smart...Or damn lucky they weren't crushed.
  24. Game Cast is showing Miller as piping pitches right down the middle of the plate far more often than Estrada. In ARam's AB alone there were 5 dead center. But I guess he's smart to know the Brewers can't hit them right now down the middle of the plate.
