  1. Okay, my buddy down in Miami tells me Turner looks good for 4IP and then he just loses it in the 5th and 6th innings. So it's time to put some runs on the board. It's Wolf vs. Nelson tomorrow, we can sweep this series!
  2. Wait, the way I've read on Rule 5 players is that Wang can be traded but the receiving team must keep him on their 25man for the season. Aside from Houston/Chicago what teams can really take Wang on w/o damaging their season like he's done for Milw? Maybe Arizona as well? H&T please share the info you are going by? I read the MLB Rule 5 page and to me I get this from it Wang can be returned to Pittsburgh w/o going through waivers first. It's when Pittsburgh declines the return that Wang is then sent through waivers. And that Milwaukee can trade Wang with that team then having to keep Wang or return him to Pittsburgh. Meanwhile that team has lost some prospect in trade so you figure the Astros/Cubs/DBacks would keep him the remainder of the season....Besides, Wang has just how many more days? Are we at 54 days today? so 36 more? One would have to figure Wang in trade is in the form of a competitive balance pick and/or Slot money in International spending. I don't see a player coming in return for Wang unless it was Milwaukee trading one to Pittsburgh.
  3. Quick look on BRef and it shows 9-30-2010. That Braun batted 2nd 4times in 2010. The mentioned 9-30, 6-4, 6-2, and 5-30.
  4. TLB. You're wrong. Beltre is a 5WAR 3b easily, and the age 35 doesn't tie in to him in losing skills. He's an automatic 30HR 100RBI machine. So trading for Beltre this season, Texas can put 12.5WAR of value as the player the Brewers are getting. A 6Year team controlled SP in return for him even if the kid is an Ace in the making... Say Gerrit Cole for Example. How likely is it that Cole gives Texas 12.5WAR in the 6years of team controlled? He's at 1.8 through his first 28starts. I can look at Cole and think of him as a 3WAR pitcher for 6years or 18WAR over team controlled. You're getting 12.5WAR from Beltre in 2.5seasons. On a Playoff push run as the Brewers stand currently adding a bat like Beltre's would be monstrous. It would be easy to just go Gomez/Braun/Beltre/ARam/Lucroy when healthy. That's ALL STAR for 5 spots the pitcher has to get through. I think Beltre's addition would add 6-8runs a Week to the team's offense. How many wins would that be adding every week? At least one.
  5. To get Beltre would mean ARam is done for the season. Otherwise there isn't another spot for him on the field. I also don't see Texas trading away Beltre unless it brought them an Ace in the making type pitcher(Better than Wily Peralta). He's a Franchise player for that team like David Ortiz is to Boston. He'll probably get 2 year contract extensions after his current contract before retiring a Ranger. As for Rios. Well he was traded for Luery Garcia last year. A solid Utility Player. If we are going to pick up Rios, Seems like a Davis or Fiers/Jungmann would be required. Rios has an option to be picked up next season so if we lost Davis it's at least reasonable to have Rios on the roster next year while our Minor guys season to the point of graduating in to the roster maybe by Sept 2015. I just feel like Texas stands to gain more in trade for Rios than Chicago did because Chicago was blowing up their roster/shaving payroll for a rebuild. Texas isn't in that boat, injuries derailed their season's potential. They don't need to trade Rios away, as for them he's a valuable asset for next season.
  6. A W is what we needed after that blown game yesterday! Ok let's get another W here and take the series! I actually liked this lineup.
  7. #4s and 5s doing what they do...strong start just can't get through 7IP Estrada/Garza last two nights
  8. Monty- When it comes to pitching I feel that only Lohse or Peralta would be wanted by the Dodgers for Pederson(+some other prospect) I can't fathom why Milwaukee would trade away their top two Starters in a year they see themselves as Playoff Contenders. So to me LA would target Nelson for Pederson because that is just how the talks work out. LA doesn't want Estrada/Garza/Gallardo and the Brewers won't part with Lohse/Peralta. Sorry I mixed the RF term next to Davis and meant LF. I do see Davis as having that potential .850+OPS ability. It just comes at the cost of being liable in the OF. That long term for Davis he's better playing a mix of DH/LF and not just LF. That is why I consider him expendable because his bat won't play up his defense overall. I'm not saying Bench Myers due to his struggles. I'm saying give Davis starts in the OF and bat Myers DH. Myers will never be benched until he's likely 36. Why trade Davis away for Zobrist? and trade Nelson away for Pederson. To me Pederson is better than Davis. Zobrist is better than Bianchi.+Weeks/Gennett. Losing Nelson for Pederson is a 6year for 6year trade. We would lose Davis 5+years for 1+years of Zobrist. To me the team has the pitching to compete this year. But they don't have the Offensive punch (BA/OB) guys they need that Pederson(hoping) and Zobrist would add to the team. My guess is the Brewers trade Weeks to Tampa to complete the season there leaving Gennett/Zobrist for 2b. Zobrist to fill in at SS/RF/ and even 1b. The man has more Walks this season than Strikeouts. Would be a great #2 hitter for our lineup. This is just my idea of how to solve the problems this team has. Yes I haven't addressed 1b but I think Hunter Morris will force his way on the team come June.(.294/.337/.479/.816 line currently) Reynolds becomes the 1b/3b as needed Platoon role when it happens.
  9. Whoa scary I called that. Also impressed that not in the top 10 at the time Brady Aiken who I loved, is now in the top 3 draft discussion. I wanted to look back see what my video watching said. for this post I'll just say I won't be upset if we got Ortiz or Gatewood. Edit Add: Just wanted to also mention My post after this previous one listed the 21-30-something in ranking at that time and I listed these three names as hope for 2nd selection: Alex Verdugo(Gallardo comparison) Derek Hill(Speedy OF) and Sean-Reid-Foley who has since risen to top half of 1st rd it appears. Both Verdugo and Hill stand a decent chance of being there when we make the 2nd and 3rd picks. Those are my 3 picks I like then and I'm not going to change now: Ortiz,Verdugo, and Hill. MLB's writeups: Hill:Scouting Grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 45 | Run: 70 | Arm: 50 | Field: 65 | Overall: 50 Orsino Hill reached Triple-A as an outfielder and now scouts Northern California for the Dodgers. One of the best 2014 prospects in his area also happens to be his son. Derek Hill is one of the fastest players and best defensive players in this year's high school class. He ran sub-6.4 60-yard-dashes on the showcase circuit this summer, and he glides around center field. He also has a solid arm, stronger than most at his position. An Oregon recruit, Hill has offensive potential as well. With his wheels, bat speed, line-drive swing and mature approach, he should have no trouble hitting for average. He also displays some gap power, with the potential for perhaps more once he adds strength. I don't understand how he's falling in to the 60s rankings? Seems like a sure-fire MLB OF just based on his speed/defensive ability. The bat would dictate if he is a Star or just a 4th OF. Verdugo:Scouting Grades: Fastball: 55 | Curveball: 55 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 50 | Overall: 50 When the spring began, Verdugo was one of the few two-way prospects in the Draft class that may have had a split camp over whether he should hit or pitch. As the Draft drew closer, it became increasingly apparent that most teams saw his future on the mound. As a pitcher, Verdugo projects as a No. 3 starter at the big league level. While not the biggest pitcher in the world, he does have a compact and efficient delivery. His three-quarters delivery gives him good angle and movement on his fastball, which averages 89-91 mph and has reached 94. He could add more velocity if he focuses on pitching full-time, and he also features a promising curveball and a changeup with some life. The athleticism that made him a solid outfield prospect, and would help him be a potential two-way player at Arizona State, should aid him in his development as a pitcher, though the MVP winner for the National team at the Under Armour All-America Game at Wrigley Field last August will have to get past some makeup concerns to keep his Draft stock up. Lefty! Likened him to Gallardo because he looks good with the bat. Sounds promising and my eye test liked him...Could just very well be a Gallardo Cloned pick ten years later! his 46th to what would be Verdugo's 41st. Draft experts any takes on these two?
  10. BA's latest mock has Milwaukee selecting Tyler Beede who's stock is falling apparently due to inconsistency. Yeah just great another flop selection of a failing College arm.... Honestly, the extra game we won that cost us 3 spots in the draft is going to lead to the team missing out on the right guy because the right guy will be gone after the 10th selection. Watch us fail.
  11. Hi and Tight. About the Myers/Davis Platoon. Sorry wrong use of word in getting my thought across. The idea to me was to Play Davis in RF and DH Myers giving him a day off from the field while still keeping his bat in the lineup. And Davis would DH typically over Dejesus. Really the idea was to get Davis' power bat in to Tampa's lineup in any form. Myers is having a slumpish start thus far on this season. To me giving him a couple days off to just focus on hitting and not having to worry about fielding here and there may get him going.(Could do the same with Davis platooning them at DH) Oh and I went to BRef to check Loney's salary prior to my posting and what I seen was 1mil this year 7 the next 8 then on the 3rd. Somehow you got higher numbers? I missed something apparently....I'm on his player page now on BRef and nope it states 1mil this year 7/8...But it does say 3/21mil for his contract on the top. The reason I don't want to trade for Loney is we are most likely giving up a MLB contributing player. Or one of out better draft picks(Taylor/Jungmann/Roache/Coulter) that to me has 1mil+ value tied to it being a 1st rd player quality. Tie that in to the difference in cost between 1b this year/next/3rd year and what Loney makes it's crazy to me to have been so dumb to not just sign him for that few extra million a year If: your Plan D/E/F whatever it is was if Overbay/Reynolds/Juan Fran/Morris/Halton didn't pan out, you would consider trading away that 1st rd quality player to get Loney at that point. As to the Pitching depth looking forward. Jungmann is coming along. Garza,Peralta. did you forget the SP abilities/potentials of Thornburg/Smith? and banish them to a Bullpen roll forever now that they are there? By my count after next season that is Peralta,Garza, Jungmann 1,2,3 with Thornburg,Smith, 4/5 and in reserve Fiers/Pena/Hellweg(1 has to pan out back of the rotation) With Gallardo's/Lohse+Weeks/Ramirez pay off the books I'm sure another SP could be bought too if there needs to be one added via FA.
  12. 75 pitches through 6 innings. How in the world does a manager come in and take Garza out after the Uggla Single? WITH the Catcher due up, runners on 1st/2nd? Um? Double Play ball? Let your FA signed 4/52mil contract pitcher get himself out of that 7th inning when he's at 88pitches!?!@?? For !@#$% Sake! When RRR came out to take Garza out, If I were him I wouldn't have given him the ball. Told him to walk is !@# back to the dugout I'm pitching to the next two batters. #8/Pitcher's spot in the order. How do you screw that up as a manager? In a game where Garza had 7 to 8innings of Bullpen resting Start it appears RRR wasn't comfortable with giving them b2b days off of rest with another Road series on deck tomorrow. No. RRR instead makes the decision to wind up using Kintzler,Smith, and Wooten for the final 5 outs that Garza should have been able to cover before turning the 9th and final additional outs to KRod to get the Win. I don't even care about the complete jumble that happened after. RRR plain lost this game and me if I were Garza by taking him out with 1out in the 7th, runners on 1st/2nd and the Catcher due up! Is it possible to throw a ball in the dugout at RRR on a pick off attempt at 1b/3b? I'd go ahead and toss one at him being Garza next time out to send him a message.
  13. K'd him at 75th pitch. weak part of the order for the next 6outs and 25pitches then KRod will finish the game off for you Garza! Keep this start up!
  14. Let's go Garza! Get this inning over with keep that pitch count under 75 through 6.
  15. Davis at 641 is the only one over 575 I was guessing Davis had above .650 and his majority PAs would carry Herrera's and Schafer total of PAs up towards his 650 range. I'm sorry but it's time to bring up Gindl, Morris and drop Herrera and Overbay.
  16. Elian Herrera has 17ks now in 47PAs. 36% K Rate. Reynolds has 51 in 148PAs 34.5%K Rate. You can't possible tell me this guy is worthy of a ML roster spot over Gindl. Btw, the trio of OFs are closer to .600 avg OPS than .650 so it's worse than I thought.
  17. Wow so now we have a trio of OFs whose OPS can't be over 650 combined when averaged out? Wrong?
  18. Atta boy Garza! 13 pitch inning there! To the 5th! only at 47pitches.
  19. Would luv a quick clean inning here from Garza. Has a 7IP outing going maybe 8 if he does so.
  20. Or, we don't have Lohse. Drafted from these 4 next picked(Marco Gonzales SP(already in AA), Tim Anderson SS(A+), Chris Anderson SP(A+), and Jonathon Crawford SP (A) None of which are on this team hurting their record or bullpen usage/wasting a roster spot. Lost 6-9 games more in 2013 and have a legit shot at picking a SP with Ace potential. Nelson/Fiers aren't wasting away in AAA and are instead pitching for this team this year. And still have Wang as a Rule 5 Pick. Without Lohse the team also ups it's offer and lands Jose Abreau to play 1b(ending the Platoon of Overbay/Reynolds thus creating the added roster spot to carry Wang) That's the other side way to take the Lohse Signing. You can't just say Wang replaces the Lohse pick because Wang doesn't magically become not available to the Brewers Rule 5 draft pick if they didn't sign Lohse.
  21. Yes. I've been thinking the same thing. Sure it sounds like a sound plan to just put him on the DL. But you are then left to that questioning? Is he actually hurt? And if he's not hurt, well he's got to be shut down while he's injured so how's that help him develop? Wang's not just going to take up a roster spot for 90days this year. It's going to be longer. We're fooling ourselves if you think at 90days or just a little past we can get away with putting him on the DL for the remainder of the season unless he truly is injured just by coincidence in timing. What do the (DL after 90 days) people think of the situation when Wang is healthy for the remainder of the season? He's roster worthy? Oh no, wait he can't get injured when he pitches 1IP every 10days. So do you just force the issue at 90days and pitch him multiple innings game after game no matter the result until his arm pops and you've injured him? Meanwhile the team loses 4-8 games in that process because Wang has given up 20Runs? His Avg FB is 92.34 thus far. It's not 94/95. Or more. That's what I was sold on as to the big reason you get him. Does Wang have projection to add 2-3MPH to his FB being 22? Especially!, considering he's working with the Brewers Pitching coaches?
  22. 3.5mil for Reynolds/Overbay this year. 16mil total for Loney and 3years. 5.33mil avg per year. Assuming a patchwork 1b with even minimum payroll after this year(approx 2mil) It is just a few mil more. The "new" Dodger ownership does not look for a prospect to throw into their rotation. You see it that way. Ryu was a Prospect they went out and signed. Young Controlled Pitching is a hot commodity that all teams covet. Just because LA bought Grienke that means they only go for buying their pitching? They can afford to buy the best 1yr/2yr available pitcher on the market yes(Haren) but it's patchwork that has trouble written all over it when it blows up in their face. My scenario is giving LA a longer termed solution that allows them to turn their attention elsewhere. They don't have a roster spot for Pederson and he's wasting valuable playing time/value sitting in AAA. Now, Both Nelson and Pederson are prospects. It's safe to assume Nelson will get his ML playing time sooner than Pederson. A successful begin to his career could wipe out what is an equal value in thought trade currently. Now, Nelson ends up staying on the team and LA is left signing Gallardo to a 2-3year 50-65mil deal after this season. And still don't have a solution to the Pederson problem. Their back end of the rotation is worse next 3years while costing 50+mil. Nelson becomes the one that got away. "As to Davis, how much trade value does he have? He was never heralded as a prospect, hit better than anyone would have guessed last year, and is now struggling. I think he has a future as a MLB player (he's better than he's playing now), but I don't think other teams are going to give up a lot to find out. If the Rays wanted to trade Zobrist in your scenario, they'd be better off just sending him to the Dodgers for Pederson and skipping the middle man" Does Zobrist Pitch? LA Trading away Pederson for 1+years of Zobrist to fill a utility IF situation seems like a waste. Yeah Tampa gets who they need for an OF but LA doesn't really gain much in getting Zobrist. And then there's Davis and his lack of herald for a prospect. Well that comes with not having a strong set of overall tools. He's not fast and doesn't have an arm, was older. That is more than enough to never list him highly as a prospect. But can he hit? He has 5HRs thus far on the season and that would put him as Team Leader on Tampa if he were on that team. Tampa has Matt Joyce/David Dejesus as their LF/DH Both have this season and next season left before likely departing via FA. Davis becomes the heir apparent to either role. Tampa can stuff Davis in AAA to work on him too or just use him as a Power Bench bat that spells Myers/Joyce/Dejesus a day off. The trade wasn't just Zobrist for Davis. But to toss in a Power Armed Relief Pitcher in Hellweg or Pena that also have cheap long team controll attached to it. I think that's a winning trade for Tampa for 1+ years of an aging Zobrist. If Davis becomes a .270/.345 27-35HR DH/backup OF wouldn't that be good enough? The things Davis was knocked on as a Prospect(speed/arm) don't apply if he's being used at DH. I believe Davis will improve as the season goes on and he's going to have a Corey Hart like slash line for his career. Wouldn't you trade Zobrist's 1+years left contract for 4+ years of that with a RP to boot?
  23. You just can't trade for Loney. The guy was a Free Agent and we avoided him when all it would have taken was a few more million than what was tied up in Overbay/Reynolds combo. Now we add his contrace we didn't want...And give up a top 10 prospect in our farm for him? As to Zobrist and what kind of value he's worth. Can you sell to them Davis along with say Hellweg or Pena? Davis gives them a sorta DH/OF option to platoon with Wil Myers and be replacement of Matt Joyce. You then figure Pena/Hellweg gives Tampa a late inning BP piece. While saving some much needed Payroll for 1+years of Zobrist' contrace left. I think that's a good deal to them. That deal would then imo open the door to trade for Joc Pederson of the Dodgers. Dodgers clearly have a 4 man OF problem not just now/today but for 3 more years! Nobody in their right mind trades for the 21mil+/yr contract Kemp is owed through 2019. The 20+mil/yr contract Crawford is owed through 2017. The approx 18mil owed per year Ethier contract through 2017. They also have Scott Van Slyke as a 5th OF who's doing quite well. Could you get Pederson then for Nelson? The rare Prospect for Prospect trade that just makes sense for both clubs? The Dodgers can't continue to press there luck trotting out Haren/Beckett for the back end of their rotation and Nelson would help secure their future back end without costing 10+mil doing so after this season. And yes, I would trade Nelson for Pederson heads up because he appears to be a long term solution to play OF while possessing avg or better tools all around Defensively and Offensively. The Brewers have enough Depth at SP right now to trade away Nelson. Adding Zobrist/Pederson to the Brewers Offense would really improve the depth in the lineup to backup the pitching. This could be a legit 2 year run at World Series competitiveness.
  24. Nice to check in and see Lohse with a BP saving 8 IP Start. and the offense score some runs(albeit on 2HRs) Back to 9games over .500. All is well, still on a 90+ win pace
