Could there be a strong market for Lohse?
brewcrewdue80 replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Revisiting that Fielder move. Think about the dominoes that fell by not trading Fielder. Let's go ahead and say we get 2 Talented but in A/AA ball players in 2011 for Fielder. One would think that Lawrie isn't traded for Marcum. So that then means Aramis isn't needed to play 3b after trading away Mcgehee. So then that's 3/36mil available for 2012-2014. Lawrie at 3b. Those 2 players in the Fielder trade at least 1 should be making an impact on this team today. We'll play the prospects don't work out card on the other 1. I will say that FA pickings for 2011 were next to none, slim for Pitching. And I've read that Grienke isn't moved here because Marcum wasn't here to be paired with. But no Grienke means Odorizzi, Escobar, and Cain still remain on the team. I get no Segura with no Grienke. But think about Braun,Gomez,Cain in OF. Hart at 1b Weeks 2b Escobar SS Lawrie 3b Lucroy C for a lineup. Gallardo,Peralta,Odorizzi and that mystery Pitcher in the Fielder trade. As well as still having the 36mil used on Aramis at our disposal. I'm sure a trade would have happened then 2011-2012 deadline/offseason maybe getting away from any of Hart,Gomez,Cain,Escobar, and/or Lawrie. 2011 wouldn't have happened, but 2013 also wouldn't have happened. Again, depending on that Pitcher acquired in trading Fielder making to the team by this season, then Lohse isn't signed, 17th pick remains and that's another 33mil of funds available. http://network.yardbarker.com/mlb/article_external/mlb_trade_rumors_eight_prince_fielder_deals_that_make_sense_for_both_sides/3803147 Suggested trade ideas for Fielder. See, some stink. Others? The Nationals' Jordan Zimmerman would have been a perfect deal. Homegrown in WI. Wade Miley,Gio Gonzalez. But of course that is a website's suggestion and maybe Melvin was asking for these guys and was scoffed at. Aside from a Loney/Broxton deal...Thank God that didn't happen! I can't really find any concrete trade rumor with actually return to Milw included. Bal and ChiSox were rumored in on Prince. Maybe Gavin Floyd. Jake Arrieta/Zach Britton but look how those guys have fared? The problem revisiting this is that with Fielder moved. There's no Marcum/Grienke trades and 2011 obviously doesn't happen. All the angst in Melvin's moves begin with not moving Fielder in that offseason. Actually maybe it starts by not trading away Hart in 2010's deadline and instead extending him. I'm torn on this argument because when it happened, I was excited about the 2011 team and then they actually went on and won the division. I wasn't caught up in what it meant beyond 2012. The idea of having a World Series type team absolutely left me with blinders on to the Monty outcome. What hurts in this is quite frankly the luck...or lack there of proving your opinion right Monty with quite frankly every single possible trade worthy player going in to 2012/2013 pretty much breaking down/performing to a level nobody wants. Grienke and KRod part Duex are the only exceptions. Morgan,Wolf,Axford,Marcum,Hart,ARam,Gallardo,Weeks, any number of other RPs. All of them heading in to the start of each Year you would have thought were tradeable at the deadline for Something. Just Bad Luck. -
AL MVP - Trout vs. Cabrera, Round 2
brewcrewdue80 replied to Funketown's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Had to put my 2cents in this. If the argument against Cabrera is his Defense while the argument for Trout is his defense then WRONG. I still don't get the arguing of defense when They Play Different Positions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hello? When Trout plays 3b and is superior to Cabrera then argue that. For all I know though what makes Cabrera a poor defender at 3b would also inflict Trout if he played there. Like Braun's 3b skills. Cabrera is the MVP and Trout to me has no relevance in the discussion currently due to the Angels standing. Chris Davis is the only other batter that has any kind of numbers that to me stack up with Cabrera's enough to where down the stretch ala Posey last season could dethrone Cabrera. Cabrera is the MVP in baseball. What he's done in recent years is truthfully awe-inspiring. To be MVP last season winning the Triple Crown and then actually improve on those numbers? Oh for the point of saying Trout has better defense vs. Cabrera. If you ask Baseball Reference...Trout is worth 1.1Wins BELOW Replacement this year. Whereas Cabrera is .6Wins Below it. So where's this Superior defense at this year? Trout with less SBs/Caught more frequent...his campaign this year isn't improved whatsoever vs. what he did last season. So this isn't even close. I've also been hesitant to award an MVP imo to someone so early in to their career over someone who's established and lived up to the billing Cabrera has done and earned. If Trout truly is special, his time will come. But if he's not, let's say that Speed he possesses regresses quite a bit, and his batting number stagnate or see a reduction. 10 years from now the talk will be how dumb the writers were to have awarded Trout an MVP due to his Sabr/WAR numbers vs. the eye popping numbers Cabrera continued to produce and improve upon. Miggy is 30 so his "Prime" should be ending this year. While Trout should be still gaining on skills approaching his prime. It'll be interesting to see how long Miggy can keep Trout down. But hands down, there is no way if the game was on the line in the 9th inning would I want to face Cabrera over Trout. I'd walk Cabrera to face Trout. -
Melvin is a joke! What I just read about Aoki not being available, among Lohse or anyone else for that matter unless a team makes an offer for them? Yeah. Forget this year and this organization until Melvin is Axed. I'm out.

The rumormill is suggesting Pitts. and Tyler Glasnow for Norris. Can you believe that if it happens? BTW, Houston's rebuild is nearing complete, and their willingness to trade Norris today shows how it should have been done by Melvin with our soon to be FAs vs. instead extending them. Consider this by Houston now if they can add Glasnow. by 2015 their rotation should look like: Appel, Cosart, McCullers, Foltynewicz, and then Glasnow at a combined 3mil? salary? Well, probably a little more but less than 6mil for sure. They'll have Castro C, Singleton at 1b, Altuve at 2b, Correa at SS, Dominguez at 3b, George Springer in the OF core going for them for at least 3seasons together. Who knows what their potential #1-3 pick in 2014 nets and maybe provides by 2015 on top! They'll be so cheap in payroll finding pieces to fill their OF via FA and RPs should be easy. Watch out for them in just 2years!

I'm at the point thinking Gonzalez has pitched his way out of a trade possiblity. It's like every single Brewer trade piece not named KRod has done this season. I'm curious about Crain's trade because the rumor before it happened was there was a 3rd team involved? Tampa has til Sept 15th on the PTBNL and my guess is the value is depending on if Crain returns not only healthy/but to form and is available for the Playoffs, if he makes the roster in time to be added to it. Oh and Axford giving up runs like Gonzalez at the wrong time too! I'm very curious what TB gives up for Crain on his highest return to the White Sox. Just based on the fact Tampa hasn't really traded away prospects too often of any value.

Please reread my post. There was no mention of Gomez being on the block. I'm just curious on Gomez's current trade value and I would certainly make him available if the return is sufficient. Yes, Profar has less than a year of service time, but Gomez is only under contract for the next 3 years. That was the point. Gomez should be more valuable than Profar over the next 3 years. Is he enough of an upgrade for a contending team in years 1-3 to make up for years 4-6 of Profar? Flee Hope you see this as I didn't want to chat about Gomez in Aoki's thread offtopic. Would I trade for Gomez at Profar's cost? Yeah in an instant. Especially solving Texas' infield problem of not being able to play Profar where he belongs on top of their OF problem. Profar was a top 3 Prospect. Gomez today is in a top 10 position player discussion that's proven himself and can be counted on in projecting forward. Profar has A LOT of growth to do it appears thus far in his ML exposure. I think universally 3.33 seasons of Gomez for the 5+ of Profar universally would be accepted by Texas and their fans. Now of course Profar's problem in Texas also is a problem in Milwaukee til Weeks is moved. I see Profar has played a few games at 3b so maybe with an ARam trade away he'd fit there. until Weeks is gone. Now, as a Brewerfan, I wouldn't trade Gomez for Profar straight up. Sorry, but with Weeks/Gennett Profar doesn't fill the Brewers need at a cost of weakening a strength. So, I'd fully expect some kind of Upside Pitcher to be included to get me to part with Gomez. Otherwise, I know there's better deals likely to be offered in the offseason. Gomez is an offseason trade player. I've said it already, Seattle/NyMets are whom I'm dreaming of trading for Gomez this offseason if allowed by MA/DM.

Because Axford is an overpaid relief pitcher and Kennedy is a reasonably paid starting pitcher. Kennedy has more value than Axford does which is why you would have to pay all of Axford's salary in order to get Kennedy in a deal involving Axford. The Dbacks are trying to shed some payroll not add more. What's more likely to happen next season in Arb though? Unless Axford takes on a closer roll for a team his salary likely stay below 7mil next season. Meanwhile Kennedy's even with his uninspiring salary this season, I'd say he takes a bump in salary over 7mil in Arb. Only on the fact that he's looking to have 30+Starts a season now 4 straight years. How's 7mil+ reasonable for a guy who's going to be 29 with that many IP on his arm and showing quite a decline in numbers over the last 2 seasons to the point where he's just a #5 on a team?(3) on Milwaukee's lol.

Top 5 Most Likely Trade Partners
brewcrewdue80 replied to LouisEly's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Oh, that is great news. Dodgers/DBacks trade partners have been there awhile now and I could see plenty a scenario of trade options between the two teams. Lohse/Aoki+RP to Dbacks for Kubel/Kennedy both and then add Owings/Holmberg. Yeah it sounds like a lot of pieces in trade but then again this is Arz. GM Towers who's done crazy 3 team deals to make trades happen. And the Dodgers/again I'm thinking ARam...maybe Weeks?(is this why he's batting leadoff lately...showcase?) I don't know who in return. I'd wonder if it'd be a stipulation PTBNL on ARam. And Weeks/another RP? I can't even begin to guess his value. And that may be why our Scouts are watching Dodgers prospects because the hott commodities the Dodgers have for prospects aren't available for Weeks. -
Gomez clearly isn't on the trade block so keep dreaming. And Profar is on his 1st year so there's 5 years remaining now after the season. As to the Joey Gallo for Aoki? Well, most trades seem to come from a position of depth for a position of need by a buyer. Of course Texas didn't part with their depth last season with Profar/Olt. I don't think Gallo is a position of depth anymore with Olt gone. He's actually probably going to replace Beltre in the 2-3 years he's left in the minors equal to Beltre's contract. And to answer TLB's question back would I trade Gallo for Aoki? Probably no. Would I trade the 5 years remaining for Martin Perez for Aoki? Well, with the Cruz suspension looming, Perez's floundering AGAIN. Yeah. That's a SP though that straight up for Aoki, I could live with. Though, that still leaves Texas needing a SP slot to fill so it's very unlikely. So move on down to the minors players, and as Splitter said, Sardinas/Odor are the trade bait. Did anyone take notice of the international signings this year? Texas picked up MORE Middle Infielders so they pretty much already have Sardinas/Odor covered if 1 or both are traded away. By the current numbers/ I'd have Sardinas available as his numbers as a hitter aren't that appealing and his main prospect ranking is on his Defense Field/Arm ability. Sardinas has 107hits...18 of them XBH. Odor 114hits 42XBH I know who I want. So I know who I'd put out there in trade, not to mention Sardinas still stands as a higher ranked prospect today over Odor but end of the year? 1 year from now? Good chance that changes unless Sardinas finds more barrel on the ball and drives it. I'd do it in a heartbeat personally if I'm Texas Aoki for Sardinas. Putting Aoki atop the lineup would have to be a huge gain for Texas.

Let's see, KRod nets a 5/6 ranked prospect in Baltimore's system. Veras just landed a 4-6 ranked prospect in Detroit's system. Seems the price of a RP like Axford/Henderson should be in that range a 5/6th ranked prospect in a team's system. For Detroit this is a good deal imo, as they didn't lose Castellanos for a Papelbon/Nathan/ who knows? Parnell/Perkins. Closers that I'm sure were commanding Castellanos in return. Vasquez doen't appear to be a quick rising prospect to majors player. I'm sure Detroit looked at him as being a guy that they'd eventually lose to a Rule 5 draft.

Could there be a strong market for Lohse?
brewcrewdue80 replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Not to nitpick, a pet peeve of mine. Saying teams are buying 2.5years of Lohse when there's less than 40% of games left to be played. In truth it's 2.33 seasons of Lohse plus what Postseason games that may be pitched by him...if any. We're just about down to the final 1/3rd of the season remaining. The halfway mark of the season was July 1st. You're not the only one to say 2.5/1.5 seasons for a player. I've said it but have at least gone down to .4 and will remark .33 from here on out since that is where it stands July 31st. -

The "Huge Contracts are Really a Bad Idea" Thread
brewcrewdue80 replied to splitterpfj's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I apologize, I didn't check the results from today to see they fell to .5 games behind Boston. When I woke up this morning Tampa was indeed leading the AL East. -
July will be Rickie's 3rd calendar month below batting .200 this season. His awful year last season? Had just 2 calendar months under .200 BA. He hadn't had a calendar month under .200 since July 2007. You tell me what his future looks like? My money would be 5 calendar months next season under .200BA. Don't care what Scooter's OPS numbers will be compared to Rickie's. Not every player in baseball needs to have a .800+OPS to help a team. Especially if it comes from a player batting .280+. How many fans here hate Aoki? Because essentially Scooter Gennett projects to be Aoki's numbers minus 3-4% on the BB Rate. So in 600 PAs Gennett will have approximately 23 less BBs than Aoki while having 6 more hits in those ABs. By the numbers that means 17 PAs below Aoki's standards currently. Nevermind Gennett is 23 and Heaven Forbid all ability to become better ended when he reached the age of 21. This is 2b we're talking about here. Here's a number for the Gennett haters: .274/.319/.351/ .671 Oh No! under .700OPS!!! This guy has a career 22.3WAR in 17seasons. Who was he? Jim Gantner. I think we can handle 6 seasons of Gennett's production for little cost compared to Weeks' lack of production with high team payroll impact cost.

The "Huge Contracts are Really a Bad Idea" Thread
brewcrewdue80 replied to splitterpfj's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Hey Stache, how about mentioning the Braves contract of paying BJ Upton? I get his contract isn't "Huge" by overall dollars a season, but 5/75mil for a guy who's -1.5WAR during Year 1? On top of the Draft Pick lost in signing him? Huge contracts really are a bad idea. Take Prince for example. He's owed 7 more seasons at 24mil. And this season his bat is ordinary for a 1b. You can't move that contract. I don't think you can really move any contract over 20mil a season unless that player is still providing All Star type seasons. And meanwhile Tampa Bay Rays lead the AL East with a 60mil payroll. Having traded away every soon to be FA with a big contract forthcoming strategy over the years. They haven't even drafted well!!!! Again, they haven't even drafted well. Not since the 2007draftees have they had a player play for them they selected! #1 overall pick Price. and then 8th rd. selection Matt Moore. That's 5 years w/o a player joining their team from their system. Not one big contract signed, and yet here they are 1st place in arguably the hardest division in Baseball for a small market team to compete against. Sure they extended Longoria long term, but for me I think they struck at a time before the price got to out of range and fully expect to see Longoria with his now "Team Friendly" contract to be a part of some HUGE offseason deal within 5 years keeping Tampa ahead of the game once again while some other team falls flat on their face holding on to a huge contract. -
Yes a 4 for 5 game that reading the IGT Yuni benefitted from what could have been 2Errors and another hit that wasn't anything due to solid contact which means he should have been 1 for 5 w/o the luck. And with a "Coors Field" HR I'm sure Yuni just saved himself a full season ride along vs. being waived at some point. I too don't get it. This is a guy with a current -2WAR an OB% that is going to fall nearly 30 pts! below the ML Average. Batting Avg.!! Let's not just debate his offensive woes because that is actually the positive to him. He's a defensive eye sore! Why continue trotting this guy out there? I mean, as a Brewerfan, in a lost season, does anyone go to the ballpark/watch games for anything exciting that Yuni may give us? No. He's a Negative WAR player! Give me Bianchi/Prince anyone younger who just may provide some kind of excitement to watch. I think we've pinched enough out of Yuni for what we paid him on the season that it's time to let him go! How anyone defends a guy worth less than a Replacement level player really makes no sense!! Yuni would be the worst player projecting further Negative WAR than any single player on the 2002 Brewers! So being a fan of Yuni is supporting the idea of putting a team out on the field that is the worst in Franchise history!

You're probably referring to Wolf who strictly wanted Kottaras. And now Peralta? Peralta to Maldonado is strictly language. He just exclaimed it recently that he cannot work with Peralta like Maldy can in communication. He wished he could be out there everyday and not have that 5th day off, but it's better for Peralta to work with a Catcher he can communicate with for his development. I'm not upset by this at all really because it leaves Maldonado with a game to catch every 5 games while giving Lucroy a day off which, I think honestly helps him. And let's think long term here. 4 more seasons likely with Lucroy, I'd like to keep those knees as fresh for as long as possible. It's a good thread, because I said in the preferred lineup thread when Weeks/Lucroy both were struggling with the bat, I wasn't worried about Lucroy, hitters will hit. He's a line drive machine and LDs as we know provide the most success in stats. Lucroy was super consistent last season when on the field too like Braun/Aoki in a typical BA. No .220s one month here and .333 the following month it was .278 or higher every month. And that's exactly what Lucroy has done since that first month. .235-.273-.296-and .352 now for July. I would expect him to bat above .270 every month here on out and really for the remainder of his contract with Milwaukee when healthy.

The Trade With the Braves Thread
brewcrewdue80 replied to splitterpfj's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Based on what is available though. Peavy? He's owed more than Lohse. For the Braves, there just isn't a Top of the Rotation starter out there for them not name Lohse. Either they go after him or else, don't trade at all imo. The rest of the market isn't a significant if at all upgrade for them. Oh, and I just read MLBTR saying Atl. isn't in on Peavy anymore. Atlanta is in a tough situation because honestly their team isn't as strong as once believed. Medlen has taken a Gallardo like step back this year. Hudson is out. Essentially, their #1 is Mike Minor, followed by Teheran, and the returning from injury tomorrow Brandon Beachy #3? And the rest of the season in division, isn't dealing with cakewalk Miami anymore with all the Pitchers in rotation and the callups of Marishnick and Yelich. Mets have Wheeler with Harvey. with Atl's struggling Offense vs. the Pitching Talent by the bottom feeding teams, that to me spells doom. Washington should be walking away with this division it's sickening to watch them remain bad w/o some kind of 7-9 game winning streak. I think in the End Washington wins the division w/o Atlanta upgrading here at the deadline. And that upgrade being Lohse. -
Could there be a strong market for Lohse?
brewcrewdue80 replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
It's not a good sign imo that Lohse wasn't traded by today. With his start tomorrow, the acquiring team would have gotten that extra start(Braves?) The Braves who now run out returning to action Beachy good. But then Tuesday is Alex Wood's next start which if I were Atlanta and serious about acquiring Lohse, I'd have him now to start that day. I guess seeing 1 start from Beachy and another from Wood isn't the end of the world for Atlanta vs. getting 1 added start by Lohse. But complete Flameouts by both, would make the Sellers in a better position to say, hey, I don't have to let Lohse go....I want Sims+ you're the team staring at a rotation with 1 solid arm and a lot of question marks down the stretch. So give me the goods I want if you want to see your season saved, or take on a guy like Bud Norris and watch him flame your team down the stretch just as awful as some team's season not that long ago...who was that again? -
Detroit a Viable Trade Option for Rickie Weeks
brewcrewdue80 replied to HOF4canrake's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I don't see anything significant in return at the moment for Weeks from Detroit. The Brewers are better off sitting on him through this season and maybe go the trade route next deadline when his contract isn't a big issue(assuming the team keeps him down on 600PAs) The only team I'd want to deal with is the Dodgers for Weeks since the money aspect likely doesn't matter and their prospects are better in depth. -
Now, for a true determination of if Peralta has Arrived test. On the Road in Coors? A quality Start here would definitely go a long way in to making believers out of non-believers at this point. I'm sure they are sitting there salivating to see Peralta give up 6Runs in less than 5ip to cry, Yeah our Best SP prospect right here on display Pffh!

The Trade With the Braves Thread
brewcrewdue80 replied to splitterpfj's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
The only logic for me is that Lohse would cost them Lucas Sims. has to with Atl's Prospect pickings. Norris in no way is worth Sims and Atl. then at least keeps one of the few remaining prize prospecta they have. -
I thought Veras was one of the actual Not to be blamed relievers of 2012. Sure he had his share of upsetting outings but overall his numbers were actually better than his career norms. So what was wrong with him last year? As to Norris. He's not having a good year. It's a fortunate year. His positive numbers are down and warning sign numbers are up. Yo and Bud have essentially the same numbers only that Yo has given up more Runs while all across the board the numbers are identical. So it's luck. Norris likely should be closer to a 5ERA than his 3.93 to date. Probably has a high strand rate well above ML avg. Norris is a true #4/5 pitcher with no signs of 3 ability or 2 ceiling like Yo had. So the asking price along with true price has to be less than what Melvin was asking for Yo. I really don't get the idea of adding Norris to a playoff team. He's a #5 Pitcher on one or at least should be. If the Brewers were in contention and Melvin was looking at Norris to help down the stretch, I'd be a very, very upset fan to waste any minor league depth. Norris' career is Yo's 2013.

Time to trade Gallardo?
brewcrewdue80 replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Yeah, I'm almost thinking the thread should be listed as Send Down Gallardo? Yo's season is looking like 80% of Ricky Romero's of last season From being a good pitcher to all the signs of wondering and disappointment in that Romero is done. Yovani may be on his way to being done. I guess suggesting sending him down is harsh but it's probably time to consider in to the bullpen the remainder of the season. How about Closer? Maybe he finds some added velocity ala Wade Davis last season out of the Bullpen that makes him effective again? Meanwhile, the team trades off Henderson/Axford and comes to terms that at least for 11.25mil next season they just have an expensive Closer like Papelbon. Now of course, the genius in that idea is probably far over the Brewers FO heads. But hey, what if Yovani succeed's from Trade Deadline to Trade Deadline? Papelbon is a wanted man that's not on the market for closer. That could be where Yo becomes with a rich team even considering picking up Yo's option. -
Could there be a strong market for Lohse?
brewcrewdue80 replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
This from Buster Olney back on June 27th: Some teams are evaluating Kyle Lohse to see if he's a worthwhile trade target. Lohse has now pitched 34.2 and while he's been charged with 9ERs Axford hasn't done him any favors by allowing 3 of 4 Inherited runners score. Lohse only gave up 6ERs himself while on the mound in 34.2IP Lohse has pitched in the 7th inning in 4 of last 5 starts in that same time span. What does it mean? The fact that no team is having rumored to want Lohse, is likely suggesting the asking price is stupid high! Probably higher than Grienke last season.
