  1. Atlanta which has a need for a RP just lost Tim Hudson for the season. Hudson And Maholm both are FAs next season. Lohse would be an ideal fit not only for remainder this season but next season. The cost as Splitter put it of a 1st rd. selection? well Lucas Sims was 21st overall 2012. He's splitting Starts and Relief outings which I don't know if that for IP limits being 19 or if they see RP role in his future over Starter? But if it's a RP role, I'd say he's expendable for Lohse. Maybe you throw Edward Salcedo as a backup plan at 3b for Delmonico in the deal. And then 1 other guy I just don't know who to name. But something that may be a reasonable fit. Let's factor in what Lohse has done with his ERA and the added HRs he's given up in a HR friendly park...vs. Atl's home field? Or the AL East ballparks in general? Atlanta should be a team honing in on Lohse if they want to see themselves win the East. There's a reason why Philly isn't selling, because Atlanta is fairly weak yet winning games compared to talent(downgrading their "Superior OF" now) which falls in line with my Boston call. Both Atlanta and Boston I see falling in the standings unless they pick up a veteran SP like Lohse.
  2. Last year: Marlins trade Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante and 2013 competitive balance pick round A to Tigers for a trio of prospects. (Jacob Turner, Brian Flynn, and Rob Brantly.) The Marlins also received the Tigers competitive balance round B pick. http://m.espn.go.com/mlb/story?storyId=8193121&src=desktop Yeah and didn't Houston make like a 7 player deal last year? maybe more? But just saying, it happens.
  3. It's been debunked that Martinez was turned down for Ramirez. I would think it foolish if STL. actually offered Martinez for slap hitting Ramirez. The guy can't OPS over .700 and you would give up a SP with #2 potential for that? NO WAY. Beside Ramirez inability at the plate and aging he's under contract for through 2015. I mean really if Ramirez can return Martinez for what he's making then COME ON!! on the Lohse has no value arguments! For the price and age to production? Ramirez will be Alex Gonzalez in value in no time.
  4. I'm still high on a Pittsburgh deal just making too much sense getting Aoki. Add Henderson and Pittsburgh would vastly be improved imo! Rios has fallen back to his true value of mediocre. It just makes way too much sense for Pitt considering their smaller payroll to get 1.4 years of Aoki for his price. Add in to it that Aoki's contract comes to an end in the time that Polanco should see his callup? Melvin just said his selling/buying tag is more on making a trade he feels is good for both sides! Well, argue with me how an Aoki/Henderson deal isn't good for Pitts while we probably tab a Heredia+Glasnow/Kingham return? And while interdivision rules apply you're still looking at Pitts being set with Cole/Taillon matchups if Heredia+Glasnow/Kingham become the Brewers #1/2s in 3years. Pitt still wins there. They still have the better talent for #1s/2s then Milwaukee looks to have in the next 6 years at any moment in time.
  5. It's hard to think we really have the prospects to actually go get Lohse in this scenario. Bradley,Hellweg and Morris for Lohse. Considering ARam I'd fathom moving to 1b/3b with Hart coming back and Francisco at 3b. Either/or of Hart/ARam platooning with Francisco to give them days off. Hellweg's big FB likely has enough to capture someone's attention to take him on and I throw in Bradley being that he was a top 20 draft pick who's yet to move up but a top 20 pick must have upside somehow and he can be a lottery ticket kick in. Jungmann would be my team's not available in trade. and Nelson just someone that I'd hate to deal away after watching him grow and move up the organization ladder. That's my answer to this hypothetical question assuming we're in the mix for a playoff push needing a #3 Vet Starter with control now til 2015. Would I be happy with that return for Lohse? No. and that's just it, the Brewers don't have the players in the minors to get him with true upside. I'd probably have to throw in Nelson vs. Bradley with Hellweg and Morris to maybe see it as possible.
  6. I know that as a fan it's easy to say something to the effect of "that's two years away, so who cares if he sucks then," but you can't have this attitude as a businessman and hope to succeed. Successful managers have to consider the future in everything they do. If we'd have to pay him $11MM in 2015 to not pitch, that would mean that our $90-100MM payroll becomes a $79-89MM payroll for players who actually play. So how does that logic work when pitchers like Sabathia/Grienke are handed out 23+mil/avg a season contracts? All it takes is one Tommy John surgery to lose a full 23+mil to these two. Both are also earning this avg amount a season for age 34. In fairness, I don't think in this new day and age of money in MLB 11mil. is something teams can't handle losing when a player declines/ is injured. Let me flip this scenario on you. How many times has it been said on international signings/draft picks that we don't sign that why didn't they just pony up an extra few 100k? So when these GMs you're arguing are making bad business decisions by paying Lohse 11mil in 2015. How's that GM look that signs a Jeremy Guthrie deal saving 8mil. for 3 years? In the end Baltimore fans are probably clamoring why, didn't we just sign Lohse for an extra 8mil over 3years? Sans draft loss compensation. That's where it stands right now for a team looking to acquire Lohse. You're worried about money but in the end for the money Lohse is performing to it and beyond thus far. How's that GM look going in to 2014 with a 7-9mil dollar #5 performing pitcher going to look on a contending team when all it would have taken was another 2-4mil and a couple prospects to have Lohse? See, rather than use a "Band-aid" veteran FA pitcher this offseason and then watch it fail is foolish when Lohse was on the table to be had at the Deadline not only to help you're contending team 2013 but to fill a hole you have staring back at you for 2014. Look up the list of FA SPs this coming year. Phil Hughes will be the only one under 30. Feldman, Garza, Ubaldo, Josh Johnson, Scott Kazmir, Jon Lester, Lincecum, and Edison Volquez are the 30 yr olds that are going to likely command 3-4years in a deal. How's that look for any team in 2015? Gavin Floyd, Jason Hammel, Jeff Karstens, Ricky Nolasco, Jonathon Sanchez, Ervin Santana, Jason Vargas are the 31 yr olds. I see a few 1yr deals there but the better are going to ask for 3 years as well so how do they look for a team in 2015? I'm guessing here Nolasco/Santana/Vargas are going to get 11MM+ for their years in contract. You want to worry about Lohse a continual performing 34yr old for 3 years now vs. what the future market is offering and for what price? The QO was 13.3 mil last season and is set for 13.8 this year. So on that basis you're paying 1mil more in 2015 for the kind of pitcher/pay Lohse is set to be paid. Meaning who's making 10mil this year will get 11mil in 2015. 11 making 12mil. Lohse is a steal for his price when you really look at it. As to the Brewers asking price, yeah I can see where they are coming from asking for a 1st rd. talent but realistically, that's absurd. You don't get 6years or more of having a 1st rd. talent for 2.4 years of aging Lohse. End of 1st rd/ early 2nd rd talent sure maybe. But, then again, I go back to what the "Sellers" market is offering and Lohse is BETTER than Garza right now. Garza has been exclaimed the best SP available in this market but that's with the assumption Lohse isn't going anywhere. Until some other teams join in the Selling and put some other SPs on the market, Lohse is the best available and "Prize" of the market. Not just for this season but 2014 unless you're willing to pay 13+mil for Johnson,Nolasco,Santana,Garza, and Lincecum this coming FA to 3-4yr deals? Edit Add: Monty I'd agree with your presumption if Lohse was showing signs of failing. He moved to a hitters ballpark and all it lead to was more HRs allowed, but nothing else stands out as a Warning sign that he's going to see 5ERA days. Look at Kuroda/Pettite they are getting it done. That's what I can predict Lohse as being because he'd the kind of pitcher those two are.
  7. Here's my biggest concern. See Mat Gamel 2012 and...2013. That was on 1 bad knee coming back from Surgery. Now we want to take the risk Corey can play long enough having BOTH bad knees coming back from surgery? Look at ARam with his knee situation? It's bad enough to go on the DL multiple times. Knees aren't to be messed with! They end careers in a hurry across all sports. How many times have players been successful and regained full form after having knee surgery? Vs. how many disappointing returns and loss in ability to flat out having to retire? This is the NL no DH, that would be the only situation I'd feel comfortable in bringing back Corey is to safely have the DH to plug him in to if he just can't cut it fielding.
  8. As monty57 has laid out many times, they're not going to get blown away with an offer. Unless you consider getting "blown away" getting a B-grade prospect... and even that I think is probably a long shot. If I'm a GM, I really am not interested in parting with anything of value for Lohse at his age & salary. If I have to part with something of value, I'm going to target a younger & more cost-effective target. K-Rod just got a B Grade Prospect for being a 2month rental.....Just saying....I sure value Lohse more than KRod. Not to mention that B Grade prospect was given up for KRod to not even be the closer but fill in the 8th inning? So in a weaker value spot. I'm picking Boston to get Lohse now. They are in shaky ground and a "Vet" like Lohse is just what can keep Boston from falling on their face.
  9. I'm going big on this for the sake of being positive. Kyle Lohse and Juan Francisco to Boston. July 27.
  10. Oh and based on Scouting book's rankings, Delmonico would slide in 9th in ranking in the Brewers' system. Directly behind Mitch Haniger and ahead of Logan Schafer. So really around 5th behind Jungmann, Roache, Bradley?, Haniger, and then Delmonico. Surprised Taylor isn't ranked higher on Scouting book. And Bradley and Roache are?
  11. I'm a fan of this deal. Wow really Baltimore? surprised they got in on KRod with Johnson. Delmonico sounds like a high upside type player with the bat. That's all you can ask for! "Best Power hitter in Baltimore's farm"? With plate discipline? I can think of less plate discipline and more shown power down the road attacking pitches with maturity. So think a 15-20HR guy that may turn in to 30+ That's the upside I'm reading and I can't believe we got it for renting KRod!
  12. Yes, this does have some appeal, and maybe the tweet suggesting they were going to scout ARam, is due to their knowledge of an ARod Suspension lurking. Now, again 25mil for ARod depending on how many games it is for 2014 100 would leave ARod with roughly a 9.75mil obligation on the Yanks Payroll. Right on line with ARam's salary for 2014 being 16mil so total 25mil afterall. But, they are still working towards that Luxury tax threshold, and are going to work hard to keep Cano. 25mil likely for him. The Yanks have 11 players set to become FAs after this season. on an already set 119mil payroll. Leaving them 45mil or less to replace those 10 spots on their roster after resigning Cano. I'm sure it's doable but ARod's suspension certainly creates a bit of wiggle room. But who do you get in return for ARam? Seems the Yanks have a number of Pitching prospects to pick from so that's encouraging.
  13. Or, you are exposed the evidence showing you're guilt. But could go through the appeals dragging this out to next season and lose where that can cost up to 150 games supposedly. You lose 65games this season a year making 8.5mil. Or you lose up to 150 games on a year making 10million. It's a3.4mil loss. Vs. a 9? million loss. It was the smart thing for him to do financially, especially with his injured finger. To prolong this ordeal while playing injured only to suffer a higher cost/more game suspension upon feeling healthy again finally? Now he'll get healthy while serving the suspension and be back in time to begin next season making a bigger payday.
  14. FYI, Olt is not the future at 3B for the Cubs. Olt will most likely flipped for pitching in the not-so-distant future. If Olt is the future at 3b for the Cubs it is because Baez is the centerpiece for a blockbuster trade. I simply hope Olt's vision has been corrected. As for Edwards, love the arm but unless he eats a hamburger or two, I don't see him reaching #1 potential. All in all this is one heck of a deal for the Cubs. No, currently, this lines up to have Olt at 3b with Baez playing SS and Castro moving over to 2b. The Cubs don't have a ML 2b worthwhile to Not move Castro to 2b.
  15. If Gorzo goes 6ip or more tonight less than 3ERs. Does he suddenly become the Brewers best trading piece? It's a weak market and for Gorzos value he should be worth twice as much in return than what Baltimore gave up for Feldman?
  16. This is a big haul for the Cubs. Grimm can be plugged in today. Olt their 3b of the future. and Edwards (according to Nate) a Pitching prospect with #1 potential. This is a better haul than the Brewers got for Grienke.
  17. Boo to this, I'm upset it comes out as true. I really believed the guy was falsely accused and hunted down by MLB. The "Truth" hurts. I can't look at Braun now anywhere the same way I used to as a fan. All accomplishments mean nothing anymore, it was fake. Production fueled by PEDs. I don't want him to remain on this team through 2020 anymore. The sooner a team takes him the better.
  18. Look, Monty he's 20 starts in to this season. A 3.49ERA coming from a guy who's giving up more HRs in a Hitters ballpark. w/o those HRs though you figure Lohse is around a 3ERA pitcher who averages pitching in the 7th inning per start. If, he were to be FA next season, I'm sure teams wouldn't have a pause 1 second on giving Lohse 11mil next season. If I were a fan of a contending team, I'd call that a steal. So the worry in your argument can only be presented for 2015. Nobody here should buy in to it for 2014. His So/BB ratio is the best for his career EVER. Something that should be applauded on as a sign of "Staying Power" in ability. I posted earlier if so and so was offered this much for similar age/being older Lohse has to this point shown he's worth 11mil next season. Monty, tell me based on what Lohse has provided in about how many more career starts it should take for Lohse's effective lifespan to come to a halt? He has 13 more left this season. I can't fathom to this point Lohse starting next season being completely ineffective. So 10 starts in to next season? 20? a full 30 Starts next season? Acquiring Lohse for the rest of this season and a productive 2014 that potentially puts your team over the top for a World Series run, I'm sure won't get frowned upon if he fails in 2015 at some point not "living up to his 11mil" pricetag. That's how I'm looking at it. I could care less about 2015, hey throw him in the bullpen if he can't cut it as a Starter, I just see Lohse as providing a successful number of starts now through 2014 for a team. Moving away from Stl. into a Hitters ballpark, hasn't had anywhere near an impact I thought. I was calling for him to be above a 4.5ERA more likely than him being an under 4ERA pitcher. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/07/trade-market-for-starting-pitchers.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MlbTradeRumors+%28MLB+Trade+Rumors%29 Read the link. Shields? way too much probably in Prospect cost. Santana? I expect KC to QO him and demand that kind of prospect in return for a rental. Guthrie? Lohse's age, and 11/9mil owed for a guy who's not in Lohse's league as a pitcher. Peavy, more expensive than Lohse approaching Lohse's age you're clamoring end of lifespan. Norris, cheap and controlled but what kind of upgrade really? Blanton? 8mil for a 5ERA pitcher? Correia? No. Harrell isn't even starting currently. Zito No. Slowey's not starting. Villanueva? Do you really want to consider him you Playoff Push Pitcher? Danks, more expensive, less productive so why? Worley? No. McDonald, injured No. Aceves, hasn't started in a month...No. Romero, No! Then you're on to the rentals which is different than Lohse's scenario. Either a team will trade for a rental, or trade for controlled, so I'm not going in to the rentals. Compared to those options, Lohse appears the best fit even with Aging Fears. Other Pitchers need to come on to the market to dispel Lohse's value imo. But as of right now, he's the best performing veteran to go out and acquire for the money!
  19. I saw that too, and obviously, Gallardo isn't moving anywhere. At least not for any kind of promising package. It's obvious Gallardo's biggest deterrent is his limited IP per start. not getting through 6+ innings and leaving over 9outs for the bullpen to cover on average just isn't appealing. He really is a #4 to 5 in that regard. Before the decline of his "Stuff" added to it. That goes with why, I didn't agree on the Shields trade to Gallardo comparison because Shields was capable of 8-9ip outings at any time. Gallardo can't make it through 7innings before seeing his pitch count approach 120 pitches. So the same thing is going to happen with the trade him in the offseason idea. It's not going to happen until magically Gallardo finds Getting through 7ip in 100 pitches regularly. We know that's a pipedream.
  20. Scouting Books top 10 Detroit Rankings: Castellanos #31 Avisail Garcia #97 Bruce Rondon #101 and the drop offs: Jake Thompson RHP #224 Jonathon Crawford RHP #247 Not available in trade til 2014 Adam Wilk LHP #254 Tyler Collins OF #292 Casey Crosby LHP #306 Austin Schotts OF #317 Brenny Paulino RHP #369 You look at those rankings and players and it's Castellanos, Garcia,Rondon, Thompson, and Crosby as the only 5 that should even be connected in trade for s headline of a deal. Few things, Garcia is blocked by Austin Jackson in CF. Who'd be blocked by Gomez. Rondon I wouldn't mind as a future closer in Milwaukee if it's just KRod sent in trade. Thompson seems a #3-4 type pitcher at this point. Crosby has control problems and I wouldn't see him to fill a SP roll. Likely a future LOOGY So if I had a choice, it's go for the Gusto with Castellanos. Offer up 3 players if need be to get him Aoki/KRod/+2nd RP. May be enticing enough. If I were Detroit's FO, I'd likely look at Garcia being CF of future and look to trade Jackson in the offseason to reacquire a the talent lost in Castellanos but doing so filling a need on the team Castellanos didn't.
  21. Beating up on Miami at home shouldn't be looked upon as us suddenly having a playoff caliber team. That Offense has been terrible all season long. I'm surprised Stanton didn't go deep twice in the series. KRod seems a goner for sure at this point. As well as Mike Gonzalez. Still a number of players that could be dealt away that changes next season. And that whole Braun suspension lurking. I said it a bit ago, the team, no the fans are lucky May happened because this is the easiest stretch in the entire schedule. One filled with building fake hopes before August comes and the toughest month on schedule happens.
  22. Castellanos' natural position is at 3b. One that is occupied by the best 3b in baseball, Miguel Cabrera for who knows how many more seasons? Detroit has moved him to RF down in the minors but you just don't know how well he sticks out there defensively. If he can't cut it, then Detroit has a AAA player only in Castellanos. So if you can help patch up your team to win the World Series by trading a AAA player by all means they have to do so.
  23. Saw the remark on MLBTR about Detroit looking at KRod. I don't know how high we can shoot in just a rental of KRod? So definitely need added to the deal if we're talking landing Castellanos. Any RP should be made available for Castellanos. Gorzo or Thornburg maybe? Henderson and KRod I don't think get it done. The other deal is Aoki and KRod plus that 2nd RP for Castellanos and someone more I would believe when including Aoki. Dirks really doesn't show much to have a vote of confidence moving forward. Other player in the deal would be one of the other OFs in our system. But personally, I don't get trading for a KRod + minor leaguer for Castellanos as if you can improve that OF spot along in the deal I'd go for it. Aoki+KRod seems the best deal to part with Castellanos. I'd likely ask for a RP on Detroit's farm too in the trade.
  24. I seen this on my FB thread. It's a throwback uni, so I wondered if the team was spelled that way back in the day? Otherwise, really? pretty solid workers we have making these unis? Can't find good help these days
  25. He's been better than anticipated and 85wins+ seemed reasonable until the veteran position players of this team decided to take a crapper on the injuries(Weeks slump). Last season's 2,3,4,5 hitters resulting in minimal positive impact for the record thus far. Go ahead remove every ML baseball team 2,3,4,5 hitters and tell me what their record would be? Could the team have found 9 more wins with a Healthy Braun,Ramirez, and Hart? With a non slumped Weeks to begin the season? 9 wins would have us at .500 and easily in range for 85wins. Then that's w/o Gallardo's decline and the never ending who's pitching in our #4,5 spots this year? You do realize the club played Yuni and Alex Gonzalez in place of Hart/ARam? BRef has Yuni as -18 runs as a batter Gonzalez was worth -13 runs as a batter. Based on his last 5 seasons ARam would be worth about 11Runs with the bat vs. the 3 due to the knees. And Corey would have been worth about 10runs with the bat. So total the projection comes out to approximately 49 runs differential we've gotten by not having Hart/ARam vs. just the duo of Yuni/AGonz. Now, I don't blame Yuni/AGonz for their complete failure at baseball, I blame Melvin for accepting those two as legit replacements for Hart/ARam while signing Lohse. I mean quite frankly when you look at it, That should be why Melvin is fired before this season finishes. Just that revelation. You are in the middle of Spring Training nearing the end, and decide, knowing Aramis and Corey are injured to start the season, Corey out at least a month in to it, to go and sign Lohse costing the draft pick, followed by the next day signing Yuni to be your backup 3b to ARam? You then proceed to move Alex Gonzalez from being a lousy on bad knee SS over to 1b? and head in to the season comfortable with that? Absolute train wreck of decisions! How, just how many 1b were sent to waivers after Yuni's signing that we never picked up on? We Still have Yuni! Anyway, off my tangent, you see 18 games under .500 complete failure, and I see, 9-10 games the team could likely easily have won if their projected lineup were in place for this season. Which puts us at .500 then. We Batted Yuni Cleanup! Cleanup! ARGGGHHH@!
