  1. No, and it wouldn't even be close. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/recbooks/rb_hr7.shtml Yeah, I kinda figured something like that would show up. an early 1900's Stat. Is there a way to change it to lowest ever since 1955 let's say? Not including the Strike shortened season.
  2. It's preparation. Thornburg pretty much started every single game in the minors he pitched in. So the team didn't groom him as a reliever down there. Have they decided he's a SP or RP? I don't know, but it's been out there that he profiles more as a RP long term than a dependable SP. If the team is pushing him in to a RP role, he needs to get accustomed to that lifestyle. It's a different routine being a SP vs. a RP. You know you when you will pitch next vs. being prepared to maybe pitch 4 days in a row. And it's not that Thornburg is the Default starter because of Hellweg going only 2ip, it is the role Thornburg is filling long term. Coming in after a Starter only lasts 2-4ip and getting them another 2-4ip in his appearance. Nobody here should expect Hellweg to be a 2ip Starter. I wouldn't be surprised if he went 7ip next time out. Pitchers on Brewers 40man in minors: Fiers(out for season), Nick Bucci(RK), Ariel Pena(AA), Michael Olmstead(struggling RP in AAA, Burgos(Rehab), Santo Manzanillo(A+), Miquel De Los Santos(Suspended), Jesus Sanchez(AAA). What's the option then? Bucci, Pena, Olmstead, Manzanillo, or Sanchez is it. Or Hellweg. Like I said, long term Hellweg is supposed to be a Starter. You don't flip roles if the guy that profiles to be the starter as a RP and the guy who profiles to become a RP be the Starter? Now, I don't know why Manzanillo is taking up a 40man spot? But other than that where else does the team turn? Pena is the only realistic option currently. He and Hellweg are approx. 1 in the same though when it comes to wild expectations. The Brewers just need to get healthy and a return from the DL one of the many SPs that are on it.
  3. So, checking out the Stats and Carlos Gomez leads the team in HRs at 13. That would mean approximately 25 to finish the season. Would it set a precedence to lead the team in HRs with under 25 to finish the season? I looked up through to 2002 and Jenkins led the team with 27 in 2004 as the lowest number of HRs to lead the team. If Gomez manages to get hurt(which wouldn't be surprising with this season) and nobody reaches 20HRs is that potentially a ML record?
  4. Did Mark A./Melvin say Gallardo and Lohse or any of the Bullpen guys had to be traded away by Weds.? If they come out and say they want all their trade pieces to be traded away before the All-Star break. Then yeah this trade doesn't bode well for what to expect in return. But we are just entertaining trade ideas and need to be "Wowed" to trade away Gallardo/Lohse. Mark A./Melvin don't need to shed payroll and aren't trying to shed as much of it as possible like Miami has done for the last year.
  5. It should say for Salary relief. LA not only gets Nolasco but they will more than likely find a way to sign one of the remaining top 30 international prospects yet to be signed with the added funds in their pool. Miami gets what it wanted, essentially a payroll of 40mil on the season. 12.5mil of that on players that never played a game for them this season. So a payroll of 28.5mil for their entire roster. Does this remind anyone of another owner's payroll oh just a year or so before selling? The payroll projects to 34 mil next season. Someone has a nice script.
  6. Is this supposed to be in blue? It's the first run he's given up since May. Well, it wasn't looking good bases loaded 1 out. I was expecting a Bases clearing double, another walk and a HR to be one of those nightmarish .1ip 7ERs that would certainly change all that Axford had accomplished. Instead he pitched out of it to a Sac fly only. More or less just about this time last year that Axford and KRod seemed to try to 1-up each other in terrible performances along with Wolf to make any team attempting to trade for them insane. Gallardo has been on that trend now for 3 straight starts. He can't keep giving up all these runs and expect to have value in trade. ARam's constant injury situation lowers his value. Hart out for the season has 0 trade value. So yeah maybe it should have been in blue because the Brewers are Sellers with a small amount of pieces to sell in value. Axford being 1 of them.
  7. Forgot to add that the point is in the weak trade. The Marlins ruined their bargaining when they declared that Nolasco was to be traded 4 days ago before his last start Weds. Any teams wanting Nolasco, are wise to just throw crap offers and see if the Marlins take it since they want him out. There was a rumor that the Rockies offered better prospects but wanted the salary paid. Loria didn't want to pay the salary, his bottom line before these any of these prospects in return make the "Sold team" matters more importantly. If he's not getting a top 100 prospect to advertise for the future then he went straight for the money return. Not only that but the Marlins gave up More international slot money so less spending.
  8. SRB. You may or may not be right. Loria gets what he wants. 5.7million back in his pocket. He already has his baseline of players set for the future. SPs: Fernandez,Turner,Alvarez,Eovaldi,Heaney. Stanton,Yelich,Nicolino,Hecchavarria,Brantly,Marishnick all in place for 2014 and beyond. That is just in time for when Loria can sell the team after having the stadium built for him. A core of these players, Franchise faces, I can see it now. The new owner taking over the team and handing Stanton and Fernandez fat contracts of 8years to showcase to the fans new ownership leading a new way of running a franchise. Meanwhile Loria likely walks away with over 600million for practically nothing when he was given the Marlins and had a Stadium built for him.
  9. I think you answered your question Skeets. When Nolasco faces the Dodgers and what the result is. If Nolasco flames, I don't think Arizona will feel all that much pressure to match up the Dodgers in pitching. If Nolasco turns around dominates Arizona and gets a win. They may look at themselves as needing to fix their need more desparately. On the other hand, Skaggs could go 8ip of shutout ball again and the DBacks just squash the notion of needing to find any SP at all.
  10. If the team has decided Thornburg is a long relief Pitcher then putting him back at Starter is against what they are moving him as being. It changes how he's preparing himself mentally. Long Term, Hellweg will be a SP. Thornburg in the BP. So it's likely a developmental thing that to us, Thornburg should be starting in Hellweg's place, for the Brewers long term commitment, Thornburg isn't an option as a Starter. As to what does it matter? It's just asking the question from above that Hellweg be sent back down to AAA. Who takes his place? It's rather annoying that Burgos/Estrada can't return on time having setbacks. It's like what are they doing to these pitchers? First with the multiple injuries, second with them having setbacks trying to rehab?
  11. Who toes the mound in his place? What Pitcher do we send up to be slaughtered instead? I don't think Milwaukee is putting Hellweg on the Mound because they think he's ready, just that he's their best option/most ready to do so. Should they use Jungmann? Nelson? I actually thought the solution a few days back would have been to claim Chen Mien Wang off waivers. Why the hell don't they do that? This, Especially when he was DFA'd the day Peralta left for his hamstring tightness.s The Brewers need Estrada/Burgos to get healthy and back on the mound.
  12. Yo, had it going, now here comes the once again I won't pitch in to the 7th inning after being staked a lead early and putting up zeroes the first 4 frames start. BTW, Gallardo's OPS now stands at .800. If he could have been a 7ip imagine his career? Batting/Pitching?
  13. Yes Nate, I think he gets taken out of trade talks after a single game start that leads their team to victory. At least when talking about a prospect with the upside like Skaggs. It seems Arizona is looking to win this year, something I'm not agreeing with, but if they want to win this year, Skaggs individual starts that continue looking unimpressive he becomes an afterthought in helping the team win this year. So enter Gallardo, a Pitcher who's finished each of the last 2seasons looking like a #2. Skaggs' start should lead to another look, and with each time out he more than likely going to show enough to stay as an asset for this season.
  14. well it was vs a lineup missing it's best 2 hitters which is also 2 of the best in all of baseball. But I'm sure this just cements the idea that he's UNtradeable.
  15. Stache' the Brewers have gotten 2 outs from All Stars Kirk Neuwenhuis and Ike Davis. In 12 PAs
  16. Halton is 26 repeated AAA this season and his OPS is almost identical to 24yr old Morris seeing AAA pitching for the first time. I posted earlier, I expect Morris to move his AAA triple slash lines higher as the season moves on. Morris will be 25 next season 6years of control so his reign ends when he's 31. What more do the Brewers need to keep him down for after this season?
  17. didn't work. Today's box score looks like early this season. Lucroy and Weeks 0Fers. #6(Gomez early now Francisco) getting on base. Top of the order getting on base. No other base runners... As I say that Schafer gets a hit!
  18. I've talked quite a bit about a pitcher's ability to miss bats on the minor league forum, I really don't get the ground ball obsession around baseball. Ground balls are just as varied as fly balls, it's not like every ground ball should be converted into an out or is "lucky" to get through the infield. The only real difference is that ground ball can never be a HR, which has some value, but I think ground balls are vastly overrated. How about pitchers who can get themselves out of trouble on their own? I think Hellweg can still be successful, but he's never had the command or missed enough bats. The first thing he needs is to command the zone better and then if he can sharpen his secondary stuff he could be a MLB starter. Until then I think he's a reliever. Flyballs are worth almost 3x as much as groundballs. How many Runs per out does a Strikeout net? That's what Crew is harping on. If you can make a batter miss more often then allow them to put a ball in play it will result in an ability to lower your ERs. A guy that Ks 6.5/9 or a guy that Ks 8+/9 If every ground out is worth .05 runs the Pitcher with the ability to K 2 more batters every 9ip being a groundball pitcher then saves at .1ER per 9. But the Flyball pitcher if he can get two more outs per 9 with a K then he in your numbers is saving himself .26ER per 9. http://www.fangraphs.com/library/offense/batted-ball/
  19. Adam how do you feel about Francisco? I feel like 10games ago he wasn't worth occupying Betancourt's spot in the lineup in your mind.
  20. Francisco is taking that whole terrible 1b OPS on the season and bringing the Brewers closer to average every game he plays there.
  21. So the Ricky Nolasco trade is approaching and MLBTR has the Dodgers with 1 pitching prospect and the SF Giants with 2 Pitching prospects but asking for cash as the best on the table deals. Should go a bit in figuring out what teams are parting with or not willing to part with. Rockies,Rangers,Orioles, and Padres were also in on Nolasco. The Rockies apparently had 2 decent position players on the table earlier. Can't imagine it taking but a day or two from now so Nolasco is traded before his next start.
  22. Why, for the life of me do you attempt a double steal down 3runs in the 3rd inning with 1 out? I swear there are these games vs. bad teams that the team is purposely losing. Go out there and lose boys!
  23. http://www.azcentral.com/sports/diamondbacks/articles/20130704prospects-give-arizona-diamondbacks-good-bait-for-trade.html?nclick_check=1 A little writeup I found about Arizona's trade pieces. It sounds like the best players to get would be Owings and Holmberg. The scout mentions Skaggs once again not being a "Slam Dunk" for a pitching prospect. And Skaggs having Mid-Rotation Upside. Davidson, with questions on his defense and bat speed. It sounds a bit like he's a Corey Hart offensively .260s with 20+HRs a season. The Arizona prospects don't sound as appealing when you read the writeups. I'd still hope for a Davidson/Holmberg/Barrett trade out of any trade.
